So I just got a gear fit, and apparently there is supposed to be an autolock like with the original gear. You move more than a few feet away and the phone puts on a lock code so if you leave your phone lying around you dont have to worry about people getting in it. I'm wondering if there is any work arounds or any way to fix this specifically. I've got a rooted n900p(NOTE 3 SPRINT). Any info would be hugely appreciated, thank you very much.

I didn't know of this feature until a friend showed to me yesterday with his galaxy s5 and gear fit.
I tried to find today in my galaxy s4 (i9505) and the option just does not show =S
I've read somewhere that Gear S need the latest Samsung Phone to setup for it even to run. If that's true, it's a let down.
Was looking forward to use it as a stand alone backup phone. If you don't own the latest Samsung Phone, will it function as a standalone phone for call and sms?
Maybe only for initialize and to get a Tizen app?

I certainly hope so. I know there are a number of lucky one who got the watch prior to launch. If they could confirm, it would be greatly appreciated.
Don't want to end up buying a non functioning phone just because I did not own a Samsung phone.

I think you need a Samsung phone with the Gear Manager App to get it started and for future updates. But after that i think you can use as a stand alone phone. you can check out some youtube vids for more info. I dont think anyone has purchased the device yet.
I'm one of those who got it on 15 October. Largely enjoying it.
According to the list of compatible phones published by Samsung, most of the phones from 2012 onwards are compatible.
I believe the reason is because Tizen is still largely a Samsung undertaking for now, and they own the largest number of developers for it.
At any rate, you REALLY don't want to be swiping on this with 1 arm crooked all the time, and squinting at the 2" screen. Serious.
Currently, the only phones compatible with the Gear S are the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S 4 mini, Galaxy S 5, Galaxy S5 Sport, and the Galaxy Note II, 3, and 4.

**If it gets stuck:
I finally figured it out. I uninstalled the modded Gear manager, then reinstalled, but before I opened it, I turned off data and wifi, so it couldn't check for updates. Once I did that, then it was able to connect to the gear and I was able to follow the rest of the directions. Then I installed Tizonmod and eventually the Gear manager app got updated.

My Samsung Gear S just arrived today. I was excited, thinking that I was getting a standalone cellular device just like all the hype buzzing around claims. Not true. The Samsung Gear S is not a standalone cellular device despite all the false advertising to the contrary. I just got off the phone with Samsung tech support and they verified that the Samsung Gear S smartwatch needs to be connected via bluetooth to a compatible phone (Note 2, 3, or 4; Note Edge; Galaxy S 3, 4, or 5). If it's not connected and within 33 feet of the phone, you cannot make or receive phone calls, emails, or text messages. It's not just a matter of setting up the watch using a compatible phone and the Samsung Gear app and then going on your merry way without the phone making phone calls out into the way beyond. This overhyped dud doesn't work outside of bluetooth range even with it's cellular receiver. I tried asking Samsung tech support why in the world the Gear S even has a cell receiver at all if it can't work without being connected to a compatible smartphone. The only answer I could get was something about it being a convenience of some sort if you want, for example, to go for a run and leave your phone in the car. I imagine that's only good for those joggers who don't want to run more than 33 feet. Needless to say, I'm sending this overpriced "standalone" smartwatch back for a refund. I hope this adds some clarity to all the overblown rhetoric about this disappointing device.

Where to begin.................
Lets start off with did you do a little research on this "overhyped" device before you purchased? I mean, easily seeing its a SAMSUNG device would be a safe assumption that the Gear S would work best with a SAMSUNG phone. And that one possibility that it MAY work with other devices, maybe research that first to get confirmation? But instead, just purchase Gear S based on hype? Well, thats not good is it?
It doesnt work outside of bluetooth range even with its cellular receiver? Funny, I DO NOT have this problem. I can make calls, send text and use multiple other things that this device offers. Now will I always leave my phone at home? Highly doubt it. But those times I may leave it at home, I'm set.
You talked to a Samsung rep? lol. Thats not good either. It amazes me that so many people still go by what some of these reps say. Samsung has some great products (as others do too. But I cant speak for them), but I'll put my trust in a XDA member before I even THINK to put it into a Samsung rep. Not saying they are all bad, but many have NO IDEA on what they are talking about.
So yeah. I agree with you. If your not willing to just take a little time out and research the "overhyped" device you purchased. You might want to send it back. Its obviously just not for you.

Side note accept my friend request @Tahde
Hello,
I found that some of the Samsung S features may fill some of my needs however I have a few questions:
Does it work well with Note 3?
I would like to use it for fitness, is it any good for that? (running, indoor exercise,)
is there any standalone app that can be used for running (without phone)? I know that in Android wear we can use ghostracer and endomodo. Is there anything like that?
Is it worth getting it now for 289 €?
Thanks
Yes
Yes
Dunno..think so
Yes
Thanks.
Some people in reddit said that it doesnt worth so I am a bit undecided.
I have already tried 2 wear devices and I am swapping for this one. Just returned de sony smartwatch 3 and ordered the gear S. Lets see if I am happy with it.
The thing is that the new ones coming now arent better for the purposes that I need. That is why I also decided to choose the gear S.

I also own the gear S and for what your looking for your will love it. I have about 350 mp3s loaded on my gear, I have the gear circle bluetooth headphones, so when I need to take a short trip out i can leave my phone at home, and still receive text, calls, email, and listen to my music while our and about. The large curved screen is incredible, stands out from all other smartwatches, and for its size its suprisingly light. Good luck.
Just want to add, that the new Samsung smart watch uses an eSim.
I still pop the sim out of my S5, and shove it in my watch when I want to leave my phone, and I don't pay any extra per month. Can't do that with an eSim.
Had the watch for about three weeks now and I love it. It is so nice to leave the phone home at times and still be in contact with others. As far as I know, this is the only watch that has the ability to make and receive calls as a stand-alone device. Never really got the whole "smart watch" thing. If your watch needs to be in the vicinity of the phone to receive notifications then why not just pick up your phone,,,,,the Gear S can work alone (albeit with limited functionality)if you turn blue-tooth and gear manager off. I do it all the time to save battery and I get almost three days life. My moto 360 gets maybe a day and does nothing more than my phone does. Heck it was just a few weeks ago that the 360 was able to work off of the internet connection which helps but, still thats at home (where my wifi connection is) and thats the same place as where my phone is located so again why not just use the phone LOL.

Yes, that is why I decided to choose the S over the 360. Additionally, the new 360 (not the sport version) doesn't has GPS which was one of the features that made me choose the gear S. I am happy with it so far
hello everyone.
opinions please.
i am in a bind right now as to whether to spit the $275 dollars for this watch or not. sure its a year old now ....
now. i realize the tizon app marketplace is lacking in many ways and i really only get these smartwatches for mainly notifications. (i guess if i had an iphone i would have gone for the apple watch) anything else like sticking a sim card and using it as a phone is not something i will do. maybe just for data (3g) but never for phone calling.
1) so, is the tizon os on the watch sufficient and is it balanced enough to sustain battery life at regular use ? (no phone calling)
2) if i were to install android on it instead of tizon are there any kernels out there / tweaks to improve battery life? i mean having a full fledged android on a 300mah battery device is a 2 hour killer.
3) what convinced you to buy this watch?
thanks ....
1) u will get thru a day using it regularly, I'm a hardcore user getting calls/bluetooth/network and I last about 10hrs, streaming music will kill the battery I hear though
2) not sure
3) I'm on the road all the time and lots of instances I don't always have my phone, so getting all my notifications/calls is a big plus for this watch not to mention it's cool as **** lol

Battery life is acceptable. Can easily get through a day on bluetooth.
The is an Android port in progress in the dev section. You can ask your Android questions there.
Being able to leave my phone behind and still get calls was the main driving reason to get this watch.

i dont know. i am not finding myself sold on this watch. even though i have 3 in the drawer. a pebble time... crap watch. a sony watch 2, also in the drawer, and one of those Chinese knockoffs from amazon.
i do like the concept and design of the S and from a geeks standpoint i love the "hacking" ability of it being able to have android full blow is wonderful howerver that leaves the link between it and the phone dead.
i enjoy very much hacking it but then what?
again. i'd like ask what sold you guys on it and why do you have it on your wrist.

Just got a samsung galaxy watch, loaded in the Samsung Wear app as required. However, it will not pair with the watch, it resets each time.
I've read other mate 20 Pro users being affected. Anyone else had a problem?
Only thing I can think of is an incompatibility issue with a android 9.
Thanks

I disagree with that. I like to try all different brands of phone, not so much Apple since the 5s but Samsung have been ok for me. I still have my Note 9, it's just slightly too big for daily use. Not one issue with it besides that. Now this Huawei phone, i cant say I've had no issues with this, from auto brightness messing up and third party launchers not working properly with gestures. I like the phone but it's far from perfect. And also this is my 3rd due to the green screen issues. Looking forward to see what the S10 has to offer.

Excuse me, man, is your watch new this year?
The Galaxy Watch is a few months old, got it when it was released.
I received an updated firmware both on the watch and the phone, now I don't have any disconnect issues anymore but I don't know if it's a Samsung or Huawei fix.
Everything works just fine here, especially after Samsung's latest update, which fixed reconnection issue
Hey did you guys without issues enable anything special? I have to manually connect every day. Did you add the apps to the whitelist or anything.
Thinking about going back to wear os with the fossil watch.

Nothing special, but noticed I had to turn screen on phone for them to connect, so for example when I turn on Bluetooth on the phone then turn watch on and leave them next to each other to connect obviously the watch takes a couple of minutes to boot up so by then the screens timed out on my phone, so once I unlock phone after about a minute it'll then connect which is a bit weird never had that problem when it was connected to my Note 9. Watch would connect with my Note 9 whether the screen on phone was off or on.

Yeah looks like I have to hit the open on phone button and all is good. I normally have 2 devices connected at a time and coming from lg v30+ it handled that better than most phones.
I agree, watch is perfect connected to samsung phone. Wife uses the note 8 without any issues. But I understand that part, its meant to be used within samsungs world.

I have the opposite experience. Have both note 9 And mate pro, I haven't used my note 9 since I got the mate, so enough said!
