Someone should make a standard watch strap adapter - Samsung Gear S

I like how on my current Gear, I can switch out the insecure Samsung wristband and use an aftermarket standard one. Some enterprising accessory manufacturer should make a cradle that has the holder part that secures the bezel of the Gear S and just has standard 22mm pinholes that you can swap any of those other bands to.

All you would need is a 3d printer and scanner! Scan the original band, cut the straps off where you want to "edit" the connection points for the 22mm pins and boom your a millionaire lol (it would have to look good tho)

My 3D printer can make a prototype, but it comes nowhere close to looking jewelry-quality presentable.

I'll Print, somebody design. Designer get's a free adapter sent to them. I have a 3D scanner, but need help fixing it up.

I would do it if I had a cad program. If there's a program out there is can scoop for free let me know and I'll push something out. I have a few ideas.

I'd buy one. One week into it, and am already sick of the black plastic strap. It would also be cool if it covered up the plasticky chrome bezel.
Something like the old iPod Nano straps would be an alternative. The old Nano straps are a dime a dozen, so an attachment that would allow a nano band to work with the Gear S may be easier to make? Just that the Nano had a clip that would attach to the straps.

Adapter
I would buy a wrist strap adapter as well. Or, at the very least, a metal band for the device. One of the best parts of Gear 2 was the ability to use other watch bands. Right now, you can barely find the official rubberized straps in the United States, let alone any OTHER customization accessories for the watch outside stock bands in a few different colors if you're willing to pay $$$ on eBay.
So yeah...please someone make/ask around for some accessories to be made for Gear S...I'm dying here!

Getting close to having a final design!!!
I am in the process of designing the final prototypes of a Gear S adapter that connects to the frame of the watch and allows for the attatchment of any standard 22mm band. I will be starting a new thread under Gear S accessories and under the General section with 3D renderings of the part. Because of the problems with being able to patent such an idea though i won't be completely showing the design. If anyone is interested in the beta testing phase and helping with the final design process I would be willing to supply a small handful of people with a prototype to try out and return feedback free of charge. Only shipping fees will be required. PM me if interested in testing or just watch for the thread if you want to wait for the final.
*these will be 3D printed products but at a high quality and possibly the option to have them 3D printed in select choices of metal. Any feedback is welcome.

something to look forward to....
Shouldn't be much longer before my project is ready to start reading, in the meanwhile here is what i will be sitting for personally, if anyone has any requests as far as wanting to see the gear s with a favorite band let me know and I'll post a rendering.

Sexy. ^ hehe

Take the easy way out. just modify a close to spec' band option. Do you happend to remember the group Lunatic who took the iPod Nano and made it the most talked about time piece for two summers. Yes this ================

Pics or it isn't true!

haha i will post some dont worry...

I've been working on one, will have them posted for sale in a couple of weeks. Have been wearing my prototype for a couple of weeks, plan to have them in either plastic or stainless steel. I have a couple of design changes I want to make, but it's been nice having a regular leather band again. The design still allows the charger to connect also. Sorry, no pics of it, but have one on my Gear Fit also.

Just to update you Scamp. bda never came through with anything. In another thread he rambles about having sold the rights and/or "patent" (I say it in quotes since I searched the patent office records and came up with nothing) to someone in Asia but won't give any details.
So the bottom line? After having been lead along by bda for over 3 months with several sharing their personal information with him and promising money (hopefully none changed hands)... We are all back to square one.

That being said about the disappointment that was the bda project, dwwright's project looks promising!
Looking forward to an update when you can dwwright!

Very interested and willing to buy when you have finished tweaking. Keep us in the loop with updates Please!!!!

The only way to know for sure is for someone with a TC and one of these to try it. The problem with my old HTC 3300 cradle was not having enough space behind the USB plug to accomodate the TC but since the 3600 is thicker than the TC I suspect that wouldn't be a problem with this cradle. I do worry a bit about space in front of the device however. If you look at the TC from below then the USB socket on the device is on the back one third of the thickness, i.e. much closer to the back than the front so the cradle needs to accomodate most of the TC's thickness in the space in front of the USB plug and, from that picture, that clearance looks fairly tight.
It's a nice looking cradle though, I'd love to know if this would fit myself.
- Julian
Thanks for the feed back Julian. You do have a point about the position of the USB socket and unless someone has tried them I think it's worth a trip down TCR to see if it fits if any of the shops have got it.
I do like it also with comparison to what I've seen thus far.

D'oh! I've got so used to buying on the internet that, despite having bought my Touch Cruise on TCR, it didn't even occur to me to go there to try out cradles. Despite being on the tube network, I don't go into the centre of town that often but if something crops up in the next few weeks and I find myself with time and in the area then I'll see what I can find.
It doesn't look as nice as the one you (Abbsta) found but this one is also a possibility (http://www.devicewire.co.uk/P3600-USB-Desktop-Cradle):
It's for a 3600 so, as previously discussed, the clearance behind the plug might be less of a problem. It is also open-fronted so presumably there is no chance of an issue with clearance in front of the device. And finally I deliberately looked on devicewire because a guy called Danny working for Devicewire has popped up here in the last week or so and seems to be pretty helpful so maybe a PM to him when these come into stock (the current status is "Stock arriving soon") might persuade him to try one out with a TC for us.
- Julian
Yes I've seen that one and you're right the first one is nicer. It just a matter of waiting few weeks before we start seeing more options.

To me it looks like the USB is reversed to what the TC has. On mine, the "wider" side of the USB connector is towards the back of the device. The picture of this cradle looks like it's towards the front.

FYI, for what it's worth, the cradle that I had for me old 8125 works..but is not ideal as it doesn't provide the necessary support for the shape of the TC, and the USB is in the center of the cradle...

Ouch! I think you're right. Do Orange (UK) still sell the 3600? I might pop into an Orange store later today and just have a look at orientation of the connector on the bottom of the device if they have one on display.
Luckily I also agree with Abbsta's last comment "It just a matter of waiting few weeks before we start seeing more options.".

Well spotted Dave.
I can confirm that a cradle made for the P3300 works. I got it half off at the local store and it fits great. Then I guess others like it made for the P3300 would fit as well...

Be really careful. My 3300 cradle most definitely does not fit my TC. The fact is that some 3300 cradles will fit the TC, some won't.
If anyone is considering buying a cradle advertised as compatible with the 3300 but not advertised as compatible with the TC then personally I would strongly suggest that you either do what jrrasch did and physically try one out at a local store or else wait for official TC-compatible cradles. Ordering a 3300 cradle sight-unseen from the internet may or may not get you something compatible with your TC.

You guys in Europe will probably get them before we do in the US. I've contacted a couple of suppliers and they are not going to release anything for the TC until it's widely available in the US, which might take a while. I'm hoping that Mobile Planet will start carrying a cradle soon.
As for a case, I found one for the Moto Q at Best Buy that actually fits the TC pretty well. It's a bit on the loose side, but still protects the TC. I kinda like that it's not too tight since it makes it a bit easier to get the phone out when I need to.
Dave
Re delays in stuff coming out, I suppose it's understandable. These things are just such low-cost items that I suspect HTC don't have any program to get pre-production units out to someone making a $20 cradle so all these third-party cradle manufacturers probably had to wait for units to hit the streets, just like the rest of us, before being able to validate their designs. Maybe companies like Brando with a pretty widely recognised brand might have got some jump on the market, at least for screen protectors, but I doubt many other third-party accessory suppliers did.

Ah. Well spotted. Someone already posted a link in another thread to what looks exactly like this cradle but the link was from the manufacturer or wholesaler trying to get bulk orders from retailers so didn't have pricing and wasn't orderable by the general public. You've obviously found a retailer who has bulk-ordered these for sale to the general public.

Protective rear cover

I'm a graphic designer at a vinyl/graphics shop, was just wondering if there's any interest in a rear protective cover. I've noticed my gtab is a bit slick, and i'm always nervous about scratching it. We can print vinyl or use cut vinyl. I think i'm gonna make one for mine this week. What do you guys think ?

Might want to check out this thread, carbon fiber vinyl, 4 feet for $10, but custom covers would be interesting.

I would love one formed out of Kydex.
i don't think we have Kydex, but i do know we have DI-Noc (looks like carbon fiber)
We also have paint protection film (used on car bumpers/hoods) that we put on our phones

I'm doing the carbon fiber vinyl as well but would love to rock a nice simple android themed skin. Maybe a simple black with ole' boy offset rather than dead center?
I would buy one in a heartbeat.
cool, i guess i'll just have to make my wife's tablet a prototype.. hehe
i'll try and get one carbon fiber done tomm, and some sample printed graphics ones designed.
I haven't really looked into xda's advertising policies so i don't want to do anything against the rules, if anyone knows if there is a better place to put this please let me know.
I'll have some pics up tomm.

How much are you thinking about selling the carbon fiber back for? I would be interested. Nice work.
Kevin
I sooo want one of these covers! How much, and how fast can you get it to me! Ejejej
just gonna put this out there as well...
I've used a company called speedpro before (they are all over here in nj and nyc area)... I've had last minute jobs for stupid corporate initiatives where we had to make our own custom flag for the facility and the procrastinator that I oft am I put it off till one day before it had to be at our headquarters in CT... the owner of the franchise I went to in jersey met me on a Saturday (they are closed that day) - he took my vector based graphic and put in the cutting info/mapping for free (all other places waned to charge for this PLUS have the designer "make sure" it is really a vector graphic)... 20 bucks later I came out with a high resolution 36x48 flag...
they do simple little jobs like printing one-off runs (8.5x11) for vinyl cellphone covers to large projects "wrapping" cars... fyi, it is cheaper to wrap your car in vinyl from this guy than it is to get a paint job!
long story short, speed pro (or a similar sign or fabric printing co) can easily take the dimensions of the device and make a custom wrap for it for relatively on the cheap... so for those who don't want to wait for a group thing, go find someone with a wide format printer and some vinyl and have at it! but for most who just want to grab something tested and shown to fit, the OP has done a good thing here for the community

i can tell you that normally we also charge for the vector work, even if it's sent to us in a vector format (unless it's a regular customer with good artwork). the file still has to be prepared for the cutter, setting the cut path to the correct linetype, color.. Not to mention the god awful things people prepare, haha.. This particular one was pretty easy to create, like 10 minutes..

Assuming there are no issues with selling it on the marketplace on the forum, i was thinking $15 + s/h
Ill order it right now for $15+ sh. Tell me where and when!

Any possibility of fixing the image links? Assuming they look good I'd be willing to pay $15 for a precut carbon fiber back.
I've got $15 burning a hole in my (virtual) pocket right now for one of those. I just need to know where to paypal it.
That is awesome, love the screw hole cutouts.

I dunno, it's really not as bad as you might think! It's cheap, it's minimalistic, and it works brilliantly! Maybe I should make another short video showing what it looks like in my car
One other added little bonus is that, when setting my Tab down on like a desk or table, since it rests on the soft fuzzy velcro instead of its metal casing, it's somewhat protected from possibly getting scuffed on the back.
For about $3 at your local RadioShack, you really can't go wrong

Not as much as you might think. I did the same thing with my original GTab, and there was nothing left behind from the Velcro when I sold it. If anything, those two strips just kept that area clean and unscathed. No sticky residue or anything!

I actually went to buy the keyboard from a local vendor and they said hey we also have the car mount so i picked one up also.. Looks sweet.. I wish it had a speaker phone in the base like the Galaxy Nexus car mount but then again the speakers are plenty loud on the tab as it is.. I think i bought every accessory already.! Except the hdmi adapter.. I dont see a need for it as both my TV's have dlna clients built in so i can stream media to the TV's over my 802.11 N 5ghz wlan..

Tab 7.7
Just FYI DLNA is handy but in my opinion it's not a viable substitute for the HDMI adapter if you plan on using your device to output to a TV. DLNA doesn't do well with all file formats and it's kind of torturous to advance or rewind. The HDMI adapter lets you use the tab pretty much like you would normally. I don't think DLNA is really all that mature yet. It will be better when future versions can simply mirror your device to the TV via WiFi rather than the very limited way it operates now.
I use DLNA everyday to watch video content through out my home no problem.. it maybe a young protocol.. but i havent had any problems.. i agree with you about not supporting all codecs/formats but i believe this is a limititatiin of the tab as mkv, m2ts wont play on the device pulling from my nas boxes.. but my tvs have played all formats that ive thrown at it up to 1080p 5.1ac3 over 802.11n 5ghz...

So the story goes we were in northern Maine on a fishing trip with no signal. I would like to make an external Cantenna, but need the correct patch cable to go from the phone to the cantenna. I don't care what connector is on the other end as I will source the correct connector based on the patch cable. Anyone know what spec the external antenna port is on our phone?
ps I know where the port is, just don't know what it's technical name is.

Be careful!!!
I've read that those ports on the back of the phone are used by Samsung for testing purposes. Be careful when tinkering with those as you might permanently disconnect the internal antenna and ruin your phone. I was interested in making an external for my old Epic 4G Touch and decided not to after what I'd read about using those ports. Here's a thread with some info for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484314
If you are successful in joining a Cantenna to one of those ports, let me how you did it.
Nice dinner there.

Saw the exact same problem back with the captivate, poor guy trashed his phone, since the antenna connector never reset; apparently it is just the way Samsung handles antennas in their phones. There is a powered amplifier on the market that works without a direct wired connection, if I remember it will give you..... maybe 20db (guessing from a suspect memory) ... I could probably find the link, if you don't already have it.

An engineer friend made a reflector that focuses the signal at his cell phone. I think he used a stainless steel bowl with a hole in the bottom so it was more a funnel than a reflector. You need to know where the cell tower is so you can point the bowl, though.

Sounds like a good idea, but not sure it will work where we are. Lots of trees in the way. It sucks that Samsung would not use the external antenna port the same way as everyone else. I'll contact sammy and see what's up.

My friend has a cabin in the woods. The real problem you might have is that dishes need to be fixed in one spot and precisely pointed. I googled and could only find wifi reflectors.

There is a cabin on a hilltop that would be the perfect place for one. Just need a clear answer from samsung about it.

Okay, this might help you, take a look at this little well priced tech marvel:
http://bestcelldist.com/samsung_galaxy_note_lte_widepatch.html
Pros ::::::It is just the coupling, This inductive coupling will tie into any type antenna system you might like. You can specify any end connector when you order ..
It is only $30 bucks. I know it is not as economical as a simple connector but an could turn out to be an excellent alternative if it turns out you can't mate a physical connector.
Cons::::::There is Rf loss without the physical attachment, around 40% , though with the right antenna/booster you could easily be sending fish picks to jealous friends back home....
By the way,the link below still sells the connector that will trash a Samsung Captivate, They do warn that attaching an external antenna "might" damage your phone in "rare" circumstances......they sell it for about $12, nice profit on some suckers $100 dollar loss.... some things never change, eh...... Let the Buyer Beware.

Official response from Samsung Support on G+:
Hi Travis! Unfortunately, we don't have any support information concerning this as we don't support 3rd party extermal antennas. Please reach out to the manufacturer for further information. Thanks!
No surprise really
I will keep the inductive version in mind. I will also update the post with any other info I find. Going to try an contact Cyanogen as his wife has a GNote and he works for Samsung.

Thanks for sharing the update from Samsung. Looking forward to the details of how you cracked this nut and and your results. A photo fish story post from that mountain cabin would be a nice touch. Best of luck.

I've contacted a couple of seemingly legit manufactures as I still have an old Wilson's antenna that worked incredibly well in the middle of a great lake on a sail boat with an old Nokia phone about 10 years ago.
I would love to find a connector to the samsung note sgh i717 ...
thanks for posting what you know. Wish Samsung would have the nuts to look into it and provide the community some info with a harsh disclaimer to avoid dealing with warranties rather than say nothing.
If you find anything else out, please post!

Layblock - Note 3 Wallet Case Review ** Pictures Included!

In response to my previous thread stating that I picked up the Layblock, I finally got it in the mail now. Here is my review along with pictures.
Layblock case can be purchased off eBay here.
Here is my review:
-------------------------------------------------------------
I got my Layblock in the mail today. It's actually a lot nicer than I thought! I put my I.D. and 2 credit cards in the slots .I tried doubling up by adding 2 cards per slot, but it was way too bulky then. Not a big deal since I only need my ID and my 2 cards 99% of the time. I also have 2 punch cards in the slot where money is supposed to go.
I have NEVER had a flip case before. This is my first one. Wow, I am in love LoL. I always have my phone when I'm sitting down on the couch so when I go to pay a bill online, I just flip open my phone and there's my card
I went to the gym and the case worked nicely. I was on the bike and I just flip the case open and browse Facebook, Twitter, etc. I was on Vevo watching music videos and I just flip the cover all the way back and prop it up in front of me on the bike or on the elliptical.
When folding the flap all the way back, it makes it very easy to hold. Sometimes I also find myself holding it as a book if I'm on the couch and just flipping through Facebook, etc
I went to the Post Office today and when I hopped in the car I would typically throw my phone, keys, and wallet in to the center counsel. It's so nice to be able to just grab my Layblock (phone/wallet now) and go! Since the Note 3 is a "phablet" I would typically put my wallet in 1 side of my coat pocket, my Note 3 in the other pocket and I no longer have to do this.
I am definitely seeing the benefits of this case.
The price was $64.95. This is the most I have EVER paid for a case. However, it's hands down the BEST flip wallet case for the Note 3 on the market. If you watch the company's video about how they make the case, then you'll realize it's worth the money. These are hand made etc.
What am I missing? What questions do you have? Hope this review helps someone!

As I stated in your other thread, you do need to use a glass screen protector, but you seem to have that already covered.
I do have one question: Can you talk on the phone with the wallet closed? I see that it has that little opening, but I'm not sure that you can hear and be heard with it closed.
(I ask this because it would be awkward to walk on the street, answering a call, and exposing all your money and cards to everyone. :laugh
Anyway, thanks for the review. :good:

Yup, you can talk with the case closed. There's a slit at the top of the case for your ear :victory:
I do have a screen protector, but it's not glass. A very small portion of the cards are exposed, so they're not pressing on the screen. I also don't sit on my phone in my pocket so I'm not worried about it.

Yeah, the back cover is still on the phone itself.
I purchased same case priced at $58.40(includes shipping cost). Its original price is $55.99 and I used the promo code : ZRQWRFZX
LAYBLOCK
Thanks for the pictures, not sure I like how it does not close when cards are present. I also prefer a closing mechanism (magnet/button) to secure that front flap.
I got a similar leather wallet case a few months ago and have been very satisfied.
The price is a bit better for this one at $46.
The wallet case is from Korea and is made of genuine cow leather.
What's interesting is that I am using the Spigen's thin case with this leather case as the sticker on the wallet is strong enough to keep my slim case just fine.
Good protection of the phone inside a good leather case- a best of both worlds!

That must look funny lol. Is that guy talking to his wallet mommy?
I really wanted something like this, but then after It thought about it some more I decided against it. I'm always on my phone in public places and I really don't think I would feel safe knowing both my $700 phone and all my cards and cash were all in one convenient spot for a thief to snatch or Maybe i'm just paranoid...lol.
These are more popular in countries like South Korea where everyone has their smartphones out in the open. There really isn't any fear or threat of it getting it stolen.
My friend has one like this, lost it and lost her cards / ID with it too. I just can't take that risk lol.

I Love this case and feel like I must have it. Does it close all the way after having it for a week or two? My OCD needs it to close all the way. If it doesn't close all the way, do you think I could add the magnetic clip
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/other/aw/d...klv3QoPYoFcx2sERJSJVLdSB1oooD/2Q==&precache=1) that Spigen makes? I want this case but I've already thrown away enough money on cases. If I buy this one, I need it to be "the one."
Talk me out of buying this case! I've thrown away too much money on cases and am bout to pull the trigger on this one. Hurry! Talk me out of it! Help!!!
