FEEDBACK
I NEED FEEDBACK ABOUT ROOT ON SLOT STOCK
If anyone try the rom on stock tell me please, maybe this is the big problem that my roms have

I have asked this question elsewhere, but I am still unsure of the answers. I have never installed a ROM to my stock slot. I know some people feel it makes the phone run faster, but I haven't seen a need. I honestly haven't found any ROM (ever.... On any phone) that is 100% perfect, so I wouldn't chance messing up my phone.
I have 4 slots available on SafeStrap. 3 are actually "set up". Not truly enough room to create a 4th. But I know, no matter how dreadful a ROM can be, my phone will be usable by booting into the stock side.
---------- Post added at 06:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:09 PM ----------
I don't touch the stock slot at all, except to install Titanium and freeze apps I will NEVER use. (Let's Golf comes to mind...) On ROMs I install, I actually remove apps I don't need or use, rather than freeze them.
For those who do run custom ROMs on stock side, are they much better? What happens if phone doesn't boot? Thanks in advance!

@sherri at the beginning of my newbie flasher time, I never flashed the stock slot (using bmm and always slot 1). The only reason using stock slot is to get more internal free space.
I cant tell the difference but in several occasion I do feel wind of change in term of ui response.
But always keep in mind to ensure that the stock slot is loaded with ROM before reboot to system. If you were accidentally wipe the stock slot and forget to flash rom in it, you brick your phone.
I have my lesson in hard ways (three times of bricking my xt910)

Stable CM7.1 released ..!!

Awesome news guys stable version for SGS2 is released .!!
here's the link http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=galaxys2
EDIT- Sorry posted on wrong section plz move it to general section
Awesome, just flashed it. Figures, I switched to MIUI yesterday from CM build #75 because it was incredibly unstable. Just about the time I get it set up, they release a stable version of CM. But hey I'm not complaining. Can't wait to give it a full day tomorrow. It's going to be a hard choice between the two though, MIUI is pretty clean.
reading on cm forum, seems they fixed the bt bug and its fully functionally, thats a very good news, since this prolly mean we are having also miui with bt working soon
FC heaps on the camera lol...but still great to finally have a stable on CM! =D reminds me of the good old HTC days...
Anyone know if TV out is working? This is probably the only thing stopping me from flashing.
read this today and will be waiting for any user feedbacks because this is going to be my very first CM install.
Going to have to say goodbye on my litening rom..
btw the new build also supports european gs2s right?

Is there really supposed to be home screen wake up lag on CM?? I thought this was only an issue with Samsung based roms??

Bull****. Been using it since nightly #20 or so, and it has been stable since then.
I want to try this out, although I don't really want to get totally rid of my stock ROM just yet. Was there a way to be able to run this from the SD card or some form of dual boot? I think I read about it somewhere.
Any info on aos bug, general battery life and speed?

If you already have root + clockwork recovery do a nandroid backup then install CM7.
If you don't like it you can always restore back
But no SD version that i know of sorry.

Pretty much standard procedure then.
(I wouldn't mind a way to dualboot though; that would be good)
EDIT: Although I seem to keep getting
Code:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
when I try to back up. I'll try another version if I find it.
Hey, that's indeed a great news !
Unfortunately, when I try to follow the official wiki, I got stuck when Heimdall is supposed to detect my phone in download mode, it says "Failed to detect compatible download-mode device." whereas my phone is in dl mode (the screen says it : "waiting for download"...
It got stuck when I try to flash the kernel given in the wiki. And honestly, I think I already flashed a kernel (because I'm root and there is the yellow /!\ on boot) but can't remember which one...
Help... ?
Not bull****. I started using it on build 75 and it crashed about 10 times a day. I thought it was due to superpower at first, but after completely uninstalling it I still had the issue. Also, the battery life was unusably bad. Maybe you had a better experience. That's great, but I experienced what I did. It was a nightly so I accepted it and tried something else. They released a stable version and now I'm back on it. Its working much better now. For the record I'm a huge fan of cyanogenmod, I have it running on my Matrix 4G as well.

So do we have a "Things that still don't work properly/at all" list? The OP in the main CM7 thread hasn't been updated (yet?).
Have we got full stable BT HSP/HFP/A2DP/AVRCP support?
MHL?
Stable WiFi?
An option to do a loopback mount of the /mnt/emmc mountpoint back to what used to be /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/ ? (Yeah, can always do it in a init.rc file)
Have they fixed the horrendous battery drain? (I last tried a couple of 50-something nightlies)

Try reinstalling the USB drivers that come with Heimdall.
i am not 100% sure if there are more device specific optimisations than in an normal nightly. Afaik the version changes of cyanogenmod are just for the general sourcecode, which is used to build roms for all supported devices.
So that means no tv-out, no bluetooth and no mhl for us. But thats just a matter of time. sooner or later bluetooth and FM will work; not so sure about mhl.

As to the question about battery life, it is significantly better. Run super power or juice defender and its especially decent. I keep a spare battery in reach anyways, but I usually don't have to put it in until 10 or 11pm if I keep tthe phone unplugged all day.
I don't use a2dp so I haven't tested it, and I prefer iheartradio so I haven't messed with the radio yet either. I keep popping back and forth between my MIUI and cywnogenmod backups, both are awesome in their own ways. Its hard to decide a permanent rom. But I'm leaning toward CM7.

I'm happy on CM7 so far.. only thing I miss is the ability to disable completely the softkey backlights... any tips or suggestions?

random reboots

Hi!I have some strange problem(which may or may not have occured after i have root uninstalled stock sense 4.1 browser{i am using team genesis sense 4.1}).for example always when plugging in headphones or starting google navigation or playing a video through engadget app.but no random reboots when phone is in standby for example.it freezes then restarts.
i am using team genesis sense 4.1
hboot 1.49.1107 GSM
ics
what can i do?should i unroot then reroot?can this solve my problems?
You could try to reinstall the Rom first without wiping. That would put the files you took out by uninstalling the stock browser. Hopefully that fixes it.

So can the assume your are s-off, predators sense 4.1 Rom is an exact copy of viper3d's Rom , actually a kang. It sounds like a kernel issue, I believe predator replaced ziggys kernel with coolexe's kernel. So flash a new kernel. Check your pm
(don't ask me for help, as I couldn't care less if you phone explodes)
tried to reinstall and to fresh reinstall OS.nothing works.now,i will temporary unroot,go back to GB and test the things made my phone restart and come back with some news.hopefully good ones!
Its probably a ROM issue. As flashallthetime said its a kang with things modified. Try the latest Viper3D, im sure your problems will be solved
while rooted i tried multiple sense 4/4.1 roms and cm9.same issue.now,i temporary unrooted and went back to 2.3.3.no reboots.if everything goes smooth i am planning on rerooting tonight.any suggestions?
Emjnem is correct flash viper3d Rom it is the only good sense 4 or 4.1 Rom for our EVO gsm, avoid any kernels that are also available on this forum as they are mostly responsible for your and others bootloops, and how do I know this well experience, the kernel I am using is not available on xda, and I can flash any Rom flash the kernel I have and bam no bootloops, I haven't had a bootloop for over 2 weeks
(don't ask me for help, as I couldn't care less if you phone explodes,eh!!!)
I had the same problem, now running viper3D with the forbidden kernel, thanks to this guy above me! Not a single reboot ever since (s-offed 2 days ago)
THANK YOU flashallthetime!
Your are welcomed and thanx

So the moral of this story is, 1 don't always assume what a developer is giving you is without issues, don't always believe what is on there descriptions, on the whole, some are honest and tell you what to expect but there is a few who love the attention, so be cautious please ask around, and maybe you problems will be corrected.

From MDK baseband to KitKat - Clarifications

Hi all,
I would really appreciate some clarification as to my situation-- I had a stock MDK build S4, and rooted, installed custom recovery, and then loaded Hyperdrive. Since then I've replaced CWM with TWRP and kept up with Hypderdrive updates up to 17.1.
Coming from MDK, do I have to worry about upgrading my modem / baseband / anything else like that? I'd really appreciate some insight.
Also, what KitKat ROMs are you guys using now? AOSP / AOKP / TW-based, I'm curious as to the other options that exist out there that people seem to be liking.
Thanks in advance.
You don't *have* to update your modem, but generally newer modems are better and more refined. Plus, the newer ones are AWS enabled, so if you have band 4 in your area you should benefit from better LTE speeds. It takes 10 seconds to flash a modem, I say flash until you find the best for you.
---------- Post added at 11:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 PM ----------
Oh and as for ROMs..I'm just using Dan's GPE ROM and use lots of Gravity Box mods. Pretty stable ROM.

Just make sure you only flash the modem only--it is pretty clearly marked in the modem thread in general
+1 on Gravity Box with Dan's ROM. GPE is far and away the smoothest, best performing ROM...proprietary drivers + AOSP leanness = smooth. The only thing I think comes close is Kantjer's SaberMod Slim (its in the international S4 forum general development--it is unified, though, and works fine with our S4).

Thanks for the quick replies guys-- OK, so my current baseband is ME7, to be correct. I'm going to try flashing the developer edition NC5 modem and see how that fares, and I also think I'm going to try Dan's GPE ROM (it's gotta be this one, right? derp) because Hyperdrive does feel a little bloated, and I'm not totally sold on TW-styling.
Do you think I'd expect any issues with TitaniumBackup from my Hyperdrive ROM to Dan's GPE? Apparently, people recommended you to re-install everything after upgrading to KitKat, which I failed to read before doing so... maybe I should take this approach instead of using Titanium to ensure stability. For the most part, Hyperdrive was stable and KitKat has been a noticeable performance improvement, but I was getting hot reboots occasionally.
Thanks again thesoldier and brizey:victory:

Yup, that's the one. Just make sure you flash the Loki doki zip as well like the instructions say.
I would definitely go in with as little restores as possible, but generally it is fine to restore user apps and NOT system apps, as that will almost always cause an issue. I've restored plenty of user apps + data without issues, but if you do run into any, I'd start over fresh.
Also, I'm running the Dev NC5 modem and so far I feel like it's been the best for me. Just make sure you flash the modem only and not the one with nonhlos.

Re: Titanium...I would restore data on anything that takes a while to set up. Frankly, I just restore everything, apps+data, and 99% of the time I have no issues. Heck, I have even moved games between devices using TiBU with no issues. But for a lot of stuff, the data is kind of irrelevant to restore.
The only issue with Dan's GPE is that some folks have some issues with data. I maybe have to cycle airplane mode once a week. But I am on wifi a ton--we have BYOD guest wifi at work, so I am not super dependent on data.

Ah that is true, I sometimes have to toggle airplane mode to get data back, but it is rare. For example, I was on the subway last night and when I got off it wouldn't restore my data automatically so I had to cycle airplane mode. Going home though it came back automatically when I got off, so it doesn't happen all the time. Literally the only gripe I have, everything else is great.

not very clear information. please explain?
I'm pretty sure there is no version that is compatible with our HAM2 on Lollipop, yet.
Perhaps we have to modify the build.prop again?
Which reminds me, I still have yet to root my phone.
I have tried the build prop theme changes and about everything I can think of ...both versions for 5.1 hang at boot.
It took forever for xposed to come out for Lollipop because that's when Android made the official jump from Dalvik to ART. Then it appears that certain manufacturers modify the ART runtime on top of that.
It looks like Huawei is one of those companies. Samsung also did it, but they have such a huge fan base that they had a dev that came up with a work around. It's possible that someone will do the same for Huawei eventually, probably for another phone or tablet that could possibly work for us, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I looked into it and it will prevent booting. Likely to do with emui. Tom is waiting on kernel source so he can make a stock rom. Xposed will then work. Patience is key.

Anyway, eye candy aside, I think this update is pretty crap. I thought things were supposed to be ironed out in the, uh, beta.

I've also noticed that if the headphone jack is removed when some audio is playing, sound does not automatically transfer to the speakers. I really hope Tom will find some time to port CM to the HAM2. Its been 7 months since his github page was last updated !

Yes, in fact, I tried to go back, but my internal sd card is broken on anything prior to Lollipop now. So I'm stuck.
Tom was originally going to make KK first. Maybe with the new kernel release he can out something together.

Anyone elses quote/multi quote and other buttons missing on XDA???
Anyways, I tried to do it the lazy way and it doesn't work and it breaks my internal SD card. I tried to do it the official way and install just fails.
You may have better luck.
@medwatt people keep mentioning a KK build....B148 is the only build I ever see prior to b309, but b148 is JB, so what build is KK? I have always been on 4.3 prior to 5.1.
@ArkAngel06
My quote buttons gone as well, I just got caught up on your other thread discussing this all.
Won't the new twrp 2.8.7.3 L take care of this with the new check script?
keep us updated I'm working 16 hrs x 3 days so no real play time.
Tomorrow I might attempt a 4.3 downgrade. Getting real tired of the bugs, and I dearly miss Viper and Xposed. I have root but didn't flash TWRP so hopefully the official way will work.
Today I even did a factory reset but it seems to have made things worse somehow.

I am using the new unified TWRP, here is what I have tried, with the outcomes.
Use unified TWRP to restore a JB backup I made before LP>>>Won't boot, just boots TWRP over and over.
Use unified TWRP to install Xordos' b148 flashable>>>Boots, but internal SD card is unwritable.
Use old JB version of TWRP to install Xordos' b148 flashable>>>Same as unified TWRP, broken internal SD
I also had a lot trouble doing the official downgrade. Most of the problem was me not reading the instructions, and thinking I just had to throw the b148 dload/update.app on my sdcard, but there is alittle more to it than that. Also, i think you need to have the newest stock recovery installed. I tried it with TWRP installed, obviously it loaded TWRP instead of the stock recovery and failed. I then flashed a stock recovery that I had on my PC, thought it was the new one but I could be wrong, but that also failed. So I just did a full official LP upgrade again with the LP update.app, that gives you all the right stuff and I was then able to do the official downgrade.
I just did that like 5 minutes ago and it appears to be working! So, it looks like its going to be a loooong process going from LP to JB, or vice versa. Wish you could just use TWRP, but I don't think you can.

You know, Viper works on Lollipop? You have to install busy box, install the viper driver, disable low power audio, and start the app after every reboot, but it works!
Sigh. OK I will get the step daughters CC and make a flashable rom.zip from it. Didn't really want to go back to messing with roms much but it looks like there is a need. Can't do it tonight I have a sick 3 year old. I will tomorrow. Maybe afterwards I can make a flashable L zip to make going back and forth easier. Haven't done the L flash yet... But looks like cake walk. Sadly it will overwrite anything you have on the phone.

Hi guys, I try to write here hoping for a swift and comprehensive reply.
I miss by a little from the modding world, because I was very busy, and I think I lost all "geek mania" by the time of adolescence and post adolescence.
I still have my beautiful razr droid XT910, now comparable to a Pentium 4 in the era of quad (and passes) core.
I'm here looking for advice, a custom rom, I believe, to bring back to the top (I hope) this device.
Obviously I don't use it like a geek and not even use it to play with exorbitant games, but I would not crash occurs often whatsapp and similar, I would like it to become a bit more responsive, as it once was. And maybe with a new version of Android, also aesthetically speaking.
So, as recommended in italian forum, I'm trying to use a l.speed mod, I have installed it just now (and today, for first time I have installed a custom recovery), so today I will test it. (Are welcome tips on what to turn on or off about l speed mod on XT910).
I currently have a 672.180.41.XT910.Retail.en.EU (Android 4.0.4) with root.
I hope you can help me, that you can advise me. Thank you in advance! (and sorry for my little english)

Which custom recovery you installed?
There is a few quite good Kitkat roms,Liquidsmooth,Aosp,CM11 and Lollipop isn't bad also (I'm currently using Liquidsmooth 5.1.1 and I'm happy with it).
If you want to try some Lollipop rom, you'll need Safestrap 3.75 and with it you can also flash Kitkat roms...
Here is some threads with useful links and guides

I would recommend you to read first and to prepare everything if something goes wrong, like to download your stock sbf file,Rsd Lite,Motorola drivers etc...
Btw,with Safestrap you can have more than one working rom at the same time, for example,on stock-your current Ics or Jb rom,on slot 1-Kitkat,on slot 2-Lollipop etc...

Thank u for ur reply. I have installed Clockworkmod Touch 5.8.4.5 , why?
I'd like to avoid to try some roms, therefore I hope in the help of community; I am finding for a rom that have no bug, so a stable rom!
But, I repeat, thank u for ur reply and ur help! Have any advise for me?

My advise would be to deinstall CWM and install Safestrap 3.75,if you don't wont to brick your phone.

I don't think any of the current roms will work with clockwork.

the roms suggested are the best available.
if you want to know more about a rom read the rom's thread, and ask specific questions.
