Hey,
Everything was working fine until I decided to install an emulator app of Gameboy for android so I ended up installing an app called Gameboid but it didn't work properly so I uninstalled it at installed MyBoy!. It was working properly until my battery went dead and the phone turned off then I plugged the charger and after the phone turned on every app kept crashing avast anti-virus, Gmail, Talk, I can't even open Phone app and in Messaging when I want to send a message or reply or delete a message it crashes, I think I have to do a factory reset but I don't wanna lose my text messages and the only way for me is to use the Backup&Restore app on Android, I can't connect to internet to download any other app and when I connect the phone to PC it won't show the folders, my question is will the backups created by the Backup&Restore app remain after I do a factory reset? And the other question is after I create a backup and then want to restore it the name of backup is the date and time and then it's written (0.1M) if this is the size of backup obviously it's not a successful backup do you have any idea what that 0.1M is? I'm completely confused I've never been so much in trouble with Android I think it's some kind of virus or something, any help from you guys is so much appreciated, the phone is Xperia U with ICS I need to have a backup of those text messages and I need to do a factory reset please give me a way thanks in advance.

If CWM support adb it will be possible to delete this app too.

How do you check if it's locked with flashtool?
If it is unlocked you can flash custom kernel that has CWM and try wiping cache and dalvik-cache and possibly copy messages db if you know where it si located.

You said you have flashed 6.1.1.B.1.54, without wipind data I assime.
Maybe this kernel, looks like it support adb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934093&highlight=cwm
As far as I could find sms are stored in: /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
If wiping dalvik and cache wont work you can try copy all files in that directory to sd card.
mount data in recovery.
open adb shell in windows: adb shell
make sure sdcard is mounted: ls /sdcard (see that you get list of files/directories in your sd card)
creake directory for backup: mkdir /sdcard//sms_backup
copy db files to sdcard: cp -R /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases /sdcard/sms_backup/

I'm a bit confused here, I now have CWM Touch v5.5.0.4 on my phone now is it necessary to install memory_tweak.zip? And also I tried wiping Dalvik cache and then I rebooted into android and a window popped up with the title "Android is upgrading" and after that the problem still remains, then I tried to open adb shell but it gave me this error: "- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -" what should I do now? Thanks for your help btw, sorry I'm not an expert.

I'm no expert either.
No memory_tweak is not a must.
Weird it shouldn't need /system mounted, I jave Sola's CWM Touch 5.5.0.4 on my Xperia P and shell wprks without a problem, it uses one from /sbin which is busybox actually.
but you can try mounting /system maybe it'll work then.
Instead mount / data in CWM recovery and then: adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases databases
that will copy the databases to <current directory>\databases on your pc.
---------- Post added at 01:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:24 AM ----------
Just in case, you may do the same with /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts

The databases must be put back when the application is not sorking and also need to have parmission owner and gtoup set correctly.
I think pushing them back with cwm adb is the best way, but you will need shell too to change permissions and owner.
You can try with file manager that support root.
owner and group of all files is radio:radio permissions for db file 660(owner and group rw) and journal files 600 (owner rw)
And reboot the phone right after.

Two Methods two fix this.
Hey..
I know only two methods to fix this..
1. Either this is a server problem.. so try using a vpn.
2. If you are rooted, download Root Browser. Now, go to System/etc and delete a file named "hosts".
This should do the trick.

it's not created till you make a backup, or create the folder yourself.
I've uploaded a backup of the stock (rooted) system here: https://www.mediafire.com/?wr9f2n41ig4o8qb
And this is the link to the stock (unrooted) system here: https://www.mediafire.com/?p7iabx8g90exe14
Feel free to get flash happy now that a stock backup exists! To use it, first create a backup (of boot to make it quick) in TWRP, then copy and paste the zip's contents into the folder it creates. It'll have a TWRP/Backups/gibberish/ and in the next folder a list of your backups. If I missed anything let me know. I'll upload the unrooted backup sometime later this week. I used this to restore my defective one to complete stock.
EDIT: To restore system to full stock... (Uninstalled apps, no root, etc)
1) Install TWRP as per here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790542
2) In TWRP, create a backup of your boot partition
3) Reboot
4) Copy the folder in this zip to the folder in TWRP/Backups/SERIALNUMBER (you'll see another dated backup there)
5) Reboot into TWRP again
6) Restore this backup, then flash or install SuperSU
7) Reboot into Android and download this stock recovery image to its storage: https://builds.casual-dev.com/files...ery-dd-pull-15jun14-KOT49H-build201405027.img
8) Run this command (courtesy of Adam Outler) from a terminal emulator, or adb shell (replace STOCKrecovery.img with the name of your stock recovery file):

su -c 'dd if=/sdcard/STOCKrecovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery' bs=4096; sync; reboot recovery;
Click to collapse
9) When it reboots, do NOT factory wipe. Just verify the stock recovery is there. Reboot into Android
10) Use SuperSU's "Uninstall Root" option to completely unroot. DONE!
OPTIONAL: 11) Reboot to recovery, factory reset (if sending to factory!)
I messed up by phone app by trying to remove at&t contacts app and haven't been able to call since. Thanx bro

I am sorry. I don't seem to ahve the TWRP recovery image anywhere on hand. Just the stock recovery pull. I see what you mean, now- his site IS down. Here's the link to stock.

If I find TWRP, I will certainly let you know. There's not much you can do with this device and TWRP right now besides make and restore nandroids (which, admittedly, is pretty damn critical).
Well, as soon I have access to all files and what steps that I have to do to restore back to factory then I was thinking I was going to go look at it in the store and buy one but I would never buy one without the ability to restore to factory .

I root everything and thank you for all efforts , hope to talk to you again when I able to get all the files. I will download stock recovery tonight. Thanks
DUDE...you might be my hero....
However for some reason when I connect my phone to my PC, it didn't show up. It has TWRP and no operating system. Wonder if it's a Windows 8.1 thing?

Dang. I hadn't tested it. It IS heavily dependent on the cable being used, though- I'll say that.

9) When it reboots, do NOT factory wipe. Just verify the stock recovery is there. Reboot into Android
10) Use SuperSU's "Uninstall Root" option to completely unroot. DONE!
OPTIONAL: 11) Reboot to recovery, factory reset (if sending to factory!)

It's working for me on my phone :S Have you tried another computer or location?
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
Sorry its working
Personally I've deleted a couple unnecesary apps that were wasting space, and intend to make Chrome an option for Dual Window again as soon as I figure out how (it was removed, I believe in 11b, and the flex multi window mod is unable to enable it).
As more things occur to me, I'll do more things. What do you all plan to do?
So far, I've only installed greenify and titanium backup.. I'm honestly trying to figure out what else I want to do (been out of the root scene for about a year and a half between this and my old turbo, which didn't receive root until the time I got my v10)

Disable System/OTA updates. See this thread.
Remove bloatware. See this thread.
Install ad blocking software. I am using Adaway via F-Droid.
Enable native Wi-Fi tethering app. See this thread.
I hope custom recovery comes soon.
Trying to get Titanium Backup to work but it keeps telling me I have insufficient storage space when I try to do any backups

It's cause you already have backups stored. Double check your SD card files.
So far I have uninstalled bunch of bloat wares. And I was messing with the Verizon hidden menu so now I got 4g LTE on T-Mobile. Not really sure what I did though

It's either the LG Backup folder in your SDCard or the TitaniumBackup folder. Otherwise I would scan your SDCard.

I dunno how you did that with adb so what did u do
Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk
I didn't use adb
I used root explorer pulled it to my downloads folder then I connected the phone to my pc and pull it from there
But to see it in root explorer I had to mount read write options

Tried editing to enable dual window with buildprop editor, rebooted into a bootloop. Recovery has the option to enable USB debugging. Using this, is it possible to undo the change in (for example) terminal emulator, rewriting the original line? That way I wouldn't have to factory reset. I already tried wiping the cache (wasn't expecting it to work, but it seemed harmless).

That made me also go into a bootloop as well. Had to force wipe it again (good thing I backed up).
why is tbk saying SD card not writeable.. I want my backups there

It might be because you didn't mount the SD card as writable?

To disable OTA updates I just froze the System Update application. Seems to have worked fine.
