I just started learning about tasker and NFC but I'm wondering if tasker is worth it for an unrooted Note 4 or if most tasks would be impossible?

yes most tasks it´s impossible, but you can create awesome tasks whitout root, it´s a great app.
With regards to NFC, automation is impossible.
You cannot disable samsungs tag app without root, so you will constantly be asked to choose which app you want to perform the action.

Tasker is on many "must have" lists but be aware it is not a simple thing to set up. That said, there is a ton of stuff you can do without root.
Common examples:
Turn off PIN while at home and WiFi connected (this used to require root on older phones apparently, but not on the N4).
Change sound settings for night time operation.
Activate driving mode and other settings when connected to car bluetooth.
Search YouTube for Tasker. There are also some great threads around about it.

Tasker is geat.
You can do a lot stuff without having your note 4 rooted. While you get a little familiar with how tasker works you'll be able to do very cool stuff with it. So yes! It's worth each penny, even if you're unrooted!
Cheers

So with the new Touchwiz Update, why would someone need or want to root their SGT10.1? Before my only big reason was for screen shots and some apps that offer shutdown option softbuttons. But with Touchwiz you get a screen shot function. What functions would you want that would require rooting?

easy, I want the bar at the bottom to be black again and the settings panel (wi-fi toggle, airplane mode toggle to be blue not green) to name a few.
i think installing LBE Privacy Guard is an excellent reason to root.
Does that app keep apps from trolling your data and selling it? I've used lookout before. It works pretty well but who knows if its working. Lol

LBE actually monitors your data and presents you with an alert every time an app tries to access it. The alert allows you to approve or deny the access. That way if a video player app randomly starts trying to access your contacts you a) know about it and b) can deny it.
I haven't rooted my GT yet but I've used LBE on a Transformer when I had it. It was great because i could deny apps accessing my data when they had no reason to do so. If I root, LBE and AdFree would be the two of the main reasons for doing so.
Adfree and Titanium Backup are my main reasons.
I have not looked at the steps in a while. But seems like my biggest obstacle is I have nothing but Mac OS so I cant use most of the tethered and app centric methods. Wish there was an app in the market to help you root without being tethered. That would be worth some bucks! Lol

Disabling ads, removing bloatware and wifi tethering with my OG droid.
Is it possible to program a NFC tag to disable security on our phones? I'm thinking it's a no but it would be nice to be able to walk into my house, tap the tag and never have to put in my pattern. Then when I leave tap it again to turn in on to keep my friends out or anyone if I lost it.
It doesn't seem like the Samsung NFC app or NFC Task Launcher can do this.

My guess is it would have to be an application that has root privileges in order to accomplish this. COuld be an interesting use for NFC. I used to use an application in my PC that would listen for my Phone's B to pair with my desktop and unlock/lock my PC. I specifically used to as an automatic way to lock my desktop when I walked away from my desk with my phone.
BUMP!
This seems like a great idea. Try PhoneWeaver. I use it to do alot of those things. Its more of a profile changer
I used to use Unlock with WIFI however it says I can't use a pattern lock anymore since the last update and doesn't seem to play well with ICS either. I'll take a look at that Phone Weaver though.
Hi everyone,
As much as I try to love Bixby, she just doesn't do it for me.
She can't navigate, she can't start playing music from Google Play Music and there are a lot of things she struggles with.
What assistant do you guys use and why?
Agreed, bixby is useless garbage. I just use Google assistant, always recognises my Australian accent and completes 99% of verbal tasks.

Bixby is for internal commands like changing settings, brightness, sending messages and whatnot.
Assistant is more web based like asking for navigation or store in for or weather.
Me: set timer 10 minutes
Google now: setting timer for 10 minutes
Bixby: you already have a timer call 10 showing me that the timer's name is 10minute)
Or something along that line.

Bixby needs a ton of work; NEVER use it...
I personally use the Google Assistant when I need to get directions, set alarms and stuff like that. Although, I am by no means a heavy user. I used Bixby a couple of times until I realized that it really is just a voice version of the menus that are already on the phone and that it took much longer to do things via Bixby command than it did to just do them directly on the device.
I think that assistants in general have a long way to come still before they are useful to us power users.
You arent a heavy user, but you are a power user... Nice

Greetings,
I have an Infinix Note 3 Pro updated to Nougat and rooted. I'm not new to rooting and you can consider me a power user. I have many rules programmed via tasker and various tools that must be active at all times like everywhere launcher. As you know, Android as of Marshmallow introduced Doze, which is the most frustrating system I've ever come across. It's intended purpose mercilessly kills any background running task once the phone is idle. Yes there are supposed to be settings that can exempt certain apps, but it does not work. Additionally , the accessibility option also keeps going off for selected apps like tasker and everywhere launcher. IN fact all accessibility settings revert back to the off state after some time. You set it now, in a little while it's back to off. In short, apps like tasker, and sidebar launchers continue to disappear when Doze kicks end.
I've search the net for over a year and have tried every method I've found to solve this but the problems are persistent.
Can anyone please tell me how to solve this problem which has made my phone frustrate me for so long. I find it hard to believe that Android designed Doze to work the way it has worked against me.
Thanks for reading this long rant

Is there any way to clear all recent apps on lock? I've dug thru the settings and can't find anything that would do this. Sorry if this is already posted; search didn't turn up anything.
Oh I'm sure there are ways. Im not at all proficient with Tasker but I'm almost positive this can be done with it. Even without root I think Tasker is sufficient.
There is also a root app that I think will get the job done it's Xposed Edge Pro. You can set it to complete actions or carry out tasks based on predefined or custom variables. It's been awhile but I think it can be done
