I have a i777 running kk 4.2 aocp collective.I bought this phone with broke screen otherwise in working condition.Replaced screen rooted and custom recovery.Used about a week and then sold.Buyer contacted me and said sound wasn't working.Got phone back and I'm trying to figure out why sound quit.Ive changed ear speaker, tried different motherboard and made sure all plugs were tight.
Anybody suggest what I might have missed?Any help appreciated.

I would first suggest returning the device to stock firmware, to isolate a firmware vs hardware issue.

I've had the phone since it was released and noticed i was missing calls, emails etc. Come to find out my phones speaker is 99% dead.
If i place my ear to it, i can just barely hear sounds and music.
Anyone else experience this? Or am i lone wolf in this, lol

Haven't heard of anyone else having this problem. Sounds like you are indeed alone.

Sorry, good luck

The issue I've had is that my speaker seems to disable itself after I do a Hangout on Google+. Sounds only come though the earpiece afterwards until I power it off and on.
Call Samsung you might be able to get it fixed if you don't have a warranty

I've had my I717D (Telus version) for less than a week and from the first day I got it the external speaker would disable itself, then after a reboot it would work. It started happening more and more until today it doesn't work at all, I'm going back to get a replacement tomorrow.

Ive tried rebooting, factory reset, right now flashing the stock rom back and doing a counter reset. Dont think its going to help.
Apparently a few people with the international version have had this issue.
But att does give a 1 year warranty, so they should take care of it.

Hello good people of XDA!
I'll just get straight to it, well basically due to some water damage the main mic on my s2 is screwed, it just produces weird static for the other person to hear on call. I intent to get it fixed soon but just havent found the time. I believe there are two mics on the S2, so I was wondering: is there some way I switch to that for phone calls, for the time being?
Im rooted btw
Could you share your rom details for further advise

Im not aware of any but there could be some hack to enable it as the primary microphone. Its the noise cancellation input mic. Its located at the top right side of the phone besides the audio jack. Would be hard to talk into it and hear the other person at the same time, wouldn't it?

I use, mic-less earphones (ear buds or whatever you call them ) so thats not a problem. A hack of that sort is exactly what I am looking for ^^
I know I could just get some earphones with inbuilt mic but If im going to do that, I might as well get my phone fixed instead
bump?
Anyone?
why don't you simply repair it? Or you like your phone being crippled in this way...
Im out of town and in a place where i cant find a reliable place to fix it, im going back in like 4 days. So just need a simple hack for the moment
Hello all
I recently purchased a used at&t i777 and i am getting horrible reception and lots of dropped calls. I love the phone but it is basically useless as I am only getting 2 bars in known areas of great coverage. I have flashed back to stock at&t ics rom and opened the phone up and replaced the loud speaker/antenna without any improvement. Ihave also tried flashing all the modem roms I could find without any improvement. Right now I am open to any other suggestions.

Problem solved if anyone else has the issue.
I changed the Dock Connector Charging Port Flex Cable Ribbon and every thing is back to normal.
Thanks for the feedback

jrod,
I had problem with the 1st cheap one I bought from china off ebay. I bought one from a USA seller for a dollar or two more and it works flawlessly.
Its weird how the charging port effects it. On my i777 it got a little wet inside the port. Could tell this by corrosion when taken apart. Waiting for flex cable to come in so I can charge it up.

Screen turns off when placing phone to ear as expected however does not come back on when pulled away. Only after the 2nd party disconnects will the screen come back on after pressing power button and the only to the lock screen. This is a new issue. Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution?

Maybe faulty proximity sensor. I had that issue in my galaxy nexus. Ended up getting a new one

I'll inquire with Verizon about that.

Call insurance. Get a new one or refurb for that matter.

Are you stock? Rooted? I ran into this issue a few times with persus kernel.
I'm having the same issue. Anyone find a fix for this?
Just got off the phone with Verizon. They're sending a replacement. Something wrong with proximity sensor. Actually appears to be a speck behind glass over sensor.

I have also been having a bit of trouble with the same thing. On top of the screen not always coming on when I move the phone away from my ear during a phone call, sometimes when I pull up the keypad while on the phone and attempt to press a key, the screen will turn off. I think it's because the shadow of my hand makes it think it's back up to my ear. I see two little sensors next to the camera; one of them appears to have a little speck or dot on it. Maybe a piece of dirt in it? Can somebody who doesn't have this problem check and see if they see a very very tiny dot on the sensor closest to the in call speaker?
I've been having the same issue with my Note 2, I was wondering if this could be a software issue since I have messed with a few roms but decided to go back to stock. I've been looking everywhere for a solution, even went as far trying to find replacement files to see if that would fix it, but to no avail. I guess I'll have to replace the device.

Have you received your replacement?
If you have, did they send you a certified like-new or a brand new replacement?
Thank you

I have found a fix for this, at least for me, as I mentioned in an earlier post I had flashed a few ROMs, decided to search the other carriers galaxy note 2 forums and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070360&highlight=proximity+sensor
Luckily there is a Perseus kernel for verizon too here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048013
Will do this later and report.
Edit: the perseus kernel by itself didn't do the trick but beanstown's stock root/deodex and jelly 'beans' roms did! I now have everything working like new with cleanrom installed

You probably got one that was repaired in China. Hate getting phones from the Chinese, cheap but poor quality. Thanks

Hello everyone,
I have a rooted Skyrocket with Cyanogen mod 11 Kit Kat 4.4.2
Now I bought a flex cable for it, model # i727, rev 4.6 off of eBay.
Opened up my phone and replaced the older one, but the mic still doesn't work. When I make phone calls I have to put the phone on speaker in order for it to work, I don't know why that is the cause. I've spent money on this already and want to know if you guys have come across this problem at all. Thanks!

Hi, I know this is a really old question, and I've long since switched to my S5, but as for the microphone, I did have the same problem with my skyrocket. It turned out to be the fact that the tiny little hole for the microphone had dirt in it. I poked it with a pin, blasted some compressed air on it, good as new. My wife will actually uses the phone every day. ☺ best of luck
