i777 reception - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hello all
I recently purchased a used at&t i777 and i am getting horrible reception and lots of dropped calls. I love the phone but it is basically useless as I am only getting 2 bars in known areas of great coverage. I have flashed back to stock at&t ics rom and opened the phone up and replaced the loud speaker/antenna without any improvement. Ihave also tried flashing all the modem roms I could find without any improvement. Right now I am open to any other suggestions.

Problem solved if anyone else has the issue.
I changed the Dock Connector Charging Port Flex Cable Ribbon and every thing is back to normal.

Thanks for the feedback

jrod,
I had problem with the 1st cheap one I bought from china off ebay. I bought one from a USA seller for a dollar or two more and it works flawlessly.

Its weird how the charging port effects it. On my i777 it got a little wet inside the port. Could tell this by corrosion when taken apart. Waiting for flex cable to come in so I can charge it up.

In Ear Speaker Buzzing/Static Sound During Calls?

I just got my S II and when on calls it has a buzzing or static sound during calls at times when the person I am talking to gets louder. I have turned the volume down to almost silent and it still does it. I am using Unnamed ROM, but it did it before the new ROM was loaded. Does anyone know if this is a physical problem with the phone or a software issue, and does anyone know anyway to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
I am using Unnamed v. 1.3.1
Probably just a hardware issue. I haven't seen similar problems from friends or online. If it was a software problem, it would be patched probably.

Thanks! That is what I thought, but I was hoping maybe there was a software issue that could explain it. I guess I will have to return it for a new one.
I just recently noticed that mine has the same exact buzzing issue. Only just noticed a week ago and have had the phone just over 4 weeks. I am planning on returning when I get a chance also.

I called AT & T and worked through all their troubleshooting, which included a factory data reset, and nothing worked. So Amazon is sending a replacement phone out. It must be rare, because I could not find other S II owners mentioning this issue before.

My sgs2 has an aux port that only plays 1 channel of sound and I just noticed this 2 months in. Great....
Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk
The paint inside the port is wearing away. The phone itself is perfectly normal. Just for clarification.
I just started getting the same thing on my s2. Just got it 2 months ago.

it's the first one that came up when i googled.
Add me to that list. Mine recently started to buzz and it's fairly annoying. Since I got mine in December of last year, I guess I'll be getting a refurb, sigh.
Let's let old threads die. That was the point.

[Q] no signal after USB por replacement!!!!!!!!!! weird

Hello guys I need some help and wiil organize the info as best as I can
Origin: started getting a msg saying "voltage to high, charging paused" when the phone wasnt even charging!! after a little drop of water in usb port. Phone would also turn on by itself.
Have done: bought 3 new USB ports buy none worked properly, they fixed the problem with the usb port but then I cant connect to tmobile service, phone does recognize the sim and when I do a network scan it does find at&t but not tmobile. Its like I loose a band.
Flashed a different firmware and baseband. Currently on XWLPT kernel and XXLQ6 baseban and still no luck.
As soon as I change to the old USB board I get instant service with tmobile :s
REPLACEMENT PARTS: USB boards two rev2.2 and one rev2.1
Please advice, I dont understand whats going on :s
THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP
What is the small round dome fixing for on the board.A wire goes on it-would it be for the antenna.

Yeah, i guess it is but I hook it up in all of the board equally though. And still no luck with the new ones :s
There has been twice as much people on here saying that after changing board something doesnt work-than people saying it works ok.
People must be selling faulty stuff.

Yeah at first I thought that but then I bought 3 and all 3 gave me the same issue, so now I dont know what to think. :s
Only thing you could maybe try is change the usb only.Looks like its just 4 blobs of solder shaped in a square that holds it in.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Hey Handale30, did you ever get it fixed? If so, what worked for you?
I have the same issue but with a GT-N7000, I swapped out the USB charge port board. After the change, I get good signal and the it slowly dies and then it's back again.

Stopped getting service in places I should

I was on CyanogenMod 10.1 and about a month ago I stopped getting service almost everywhere I drop calls all the time and I have no service at my girlfriends I thought it might be cyanogen mod but no one else was having my problem in the thread so I've been living with it until yesterday I got sick of it and finally found the time to ruu back to stock and when I went back to stock I still had no service at my girlfriends when I use to get service on stock and cm10.1 but it did say I had 1 bar and 3g but I still couldn't make calls or even send texts or browse the internet so now I'm back on cm10.1 and I'm wondering if anyone knows what's going on did I drop it a few too many times is there a part I can order that maybe broke in it that I could open and replace any suggestions would be great thanks in advance HTC rezound latest hboot 2.28 and radios I forget what the radios are even tried going back a version of radios and hboot cuz I'm soff but I'm on the latest atm

Have you checked the sim card to ensure there is no dirty contacts on it or that it is inserted completely?
Also, have you tried a different Rezound battery cover? The battery cover acts as your phone's primary antenna. If something is wrong or broken about it, it may not be making the proper contacts with your phone.

You could do like I did and shave all the contacts on the cover that touch pins on your phone. Make the metal shine a bit. See if that improved anything. Also, make sure your preferred network mode had lte and cdma in it

I'd like to say that I did it very sophisticated like however, I savagely scraped it to a shine with my trusty O'l Noyf (knife)

I might of had some sand paper in my trucks tool box but I didn't feel like checking and I knew I had a knife in my glove box so I thought I'd take after my role model and use the knife although I have no luck I am in my girlfriends drive way with no service at all sending you this using her wifi

I had once problem with contacts for antenna located on the battery cover. Also, it would not hurt to check all the pins on the phone that they are spring loaded, not bent, not missing. Good luck.

Just to make sure, you have been keeping up with Fly's CM updates? For a while, there was an issue with low signal strength. It was fixed about 3 weeks ago if I recall. Maybe a little more.

All the little contact tabs appear to be there I gently pried up on them with a small screw driver and I just made a call and it seemed to work definitely better reception but it keeps cycling between 1 bar and no bars but not no service so I'm somewhat pleased i dont think its gonna get any better but i still will take suggestions and yes I keep up with all of fly's updates thank you everyone who helped I appreciate it

What are the two gold contacts next to the sim card?

Ok guys I have an SGH-I717 which recently loses signal rapidly. I noticed that one of the copper connections were bent inward and not making good contact with the rear cover I pulled it upward and it worked correctly. Ah the problem re appeared and looked at the contact which is cracked now. I thought this was only a nfc contact any clue of what this really is. I am also lookin for a service manual. Thanks for your help in advance.

You thought right, those two contacts are for NFC. Just to see if it would affect the signal I pulled the cover on my phone and the signal didn't change at all.
Thank you its very annoying the usb port was recently replaced and signal had been acting up but it worked perfect all day yesterday its as if its the network

No sound

I have a i777 running kk 4.2 aocp collective.I bought this phone with broke screen otherwise in working condition.Replaced screen rooted and custom recovery.Used about a week and then sold.Buyer contacted me and said sound wasn't working.Got phone back and I'm trying to figure out why sound quit.Ive changed ear speaker, tried different motherboard and made sure all plugs were tight.
Anybody suggest what I might have missed?Any help appreciated.

I would first suggest returning the device to stock firmware, to isolate a firmware vs hardware issue.
