Samsung s3 not picking up in odin - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did search the forums already and tried everything. It's a samsung s3 GT-i9300, i'm trying to root it and I have the rom as well as odin 3.09, 3.04 and 1.85. I've tried windows 8 and windows 7 laptops, i've tried windows 7 computer as well. I installed kies and I then installed samsung usb driver 1.5.45.0 as well. The problem I'm having is that odin doesn't pick up the phone. I've also tried 2 different usb cables. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to try get the computer to pick up the phone? I do set the phone on download mode everytime, since the phone is bricked and I can't get it past the I9300 text, i don't even get as far as the samsung logo. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] need help might of bricked phone :/

I have a s 2 i flashed a Lightening rom XWEK7 and it worked fine all day until a hour ago when my phone froze and restarted it self and now it wont recognize being plugged in it will go into download mode on the phone but still wont come up on the computer end. And is currently not going past the screen that says " Samsung Galaxy S 2 GT - 19100 and the yellow triangle at the bottom.
Need help ASAP as is my work phone.
The main thing is you can get into download mode. Get stock firmware from here if your carrier is listed, if not get country specific firmware here and flash that in Odin.
Edit - I just re-read your post & realised your PC won't recognise your phone. Uninstall/reinstall Kies so you have the drivers in place for Odin to recognise the phone (drivers might be corrupt ?). Make sure you kill off Kies in task manager before you attempt to flash stock firmware in Odin. If you find the PC still won't recognise your phone try a different USB cable/different USB ports (I know there's only one port on my laptop Odin works on), failing that try a different PC/different version of Windoze. And if all that doesn't work, you might want to try Heimdall. Search the forum, plenty of posts on how to use it (never used it myself so I can't guide you in the use of same).

[Q] Soft brick, halp!

Hi guys,
I think this doesn't look good, due to the way it failed. It was working just fine, using NeatROM. Just came after a walk, using it no problem. Let it rest for a bit while I was doing other things, and then when I check it again, it's dead.
It doesn't go beyond the Galaxy S2 logo, it doesn't get to the bootloader. Custom Recovery doesn't load. Download mode does start, but Odin hangs in "NAND write start". What would be your recommended steps?
Since I installed the crappy Samsung Link on my home laptop, I'm going to put the blame on that, and will use the work laptop that is clean of Kies or other crap. But i'm not very optimistic of how this looks...
EDIT: OK, so tested on a different laptop. Samsung USB drivers downloaded/installed, ODIN 3 v1.85. Still hangs on "NAND Write start!"
Try with usb drivers first, but kies is always a safe bet (of course, you need to kill its applications before flashing, all four of 'em).
This is probably an usb problem or odin version.

Hi Gastonw,
Thanks for your reply. However I'm now with a "virgin" laptop, with samsung usb drivers installed specifically for this. And still no luck, still hanging and the NAND write
EDIT: Just to confirm, this laptop has never had Kies installed, and I'm just running with the USB drivers, without Kies.
Alright, I want you to try all usb ports and try with different odin versions.
Genuine SII cables?

Verizon Galaxy Note2 Wont connect to PC/ODIN3

Hello All, I've been trying to find a solution for about 9 hours straight now. I've been on multiple forums and multiple threads. Some help would be AMAZING.. I am really agitated and want to throw my phone on the floor and stomp on it.
Here's my story:
I tried to root my phone watching a youtube video and something went wrong. So I reverted back to the factory reset.
Then after factory resetting, I tried to upgrade from 4.11 to 4.12 to follow the CASUAL root (( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066 )), but it would not allow me to do so. So I tried doing it manually using .tar.md5 files and Odin3. I was able to connect to Odin3 but it would not allow me to update, it gave me the green android man lying dead with a red triangle over his body.
This is where the problem gets worse:
I am trying to follow this thread (( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043636 )) to get it to reinstall the baseline.
Odin does not read my phone anymore. I've tried installing, unstalling, reinstalling the USB Driver, while restarting computer after each uninstall, I did this about 7 times with 3 different samsung USB drivers. one from their main website version, 1.514, found another updated one 1.523, and even an older one 1.385. None of them work for me. I've used a registry cleaner after each uninstall and nothing. I've used 3 different wires 2which are from samsung one from note2 and another from s3.
Not only can I not connect my device in Odin Download Mode ( I was able to before when I first tried to root), I can't even connect my phone while its on ( I was able to transfer music/pictures before).
PLEASE HELP ME! I am desperate
I've researched many forums and some people had the same problem but I can't seem to fix mine
Some threads that I went through.

When you ran casual root, you updated your driver needed during odin. This is why your phone is no longer recognized in odin. You will need to find the serial device listed under usb and manually update the driver back to a samsung driver needed for odin. I just had to do this yesterday to get my s3 restored after using casual on my note2.

Ace stuck in bootlop. PC and Mac doesn't recognize it

Hi everybody! I tried installing an official firmware without bloatware for my sister's Ace. It entered into bootloop and does not go over the logo of Samsung and Orange. I tried reset factory, delete cache etc., without success. When I tried to install something via Odin, the computer did not recognize it. I have tried on two different Windows with Odin and a Mac with JOdin, without success. It does not work with Kies as well. It seems that the computers don't recognize a mobile plugged, even trying with tdifferent cables, USB ports, Windows and Mac, etc. Any idea/alternative?
Thank you very much!!
There are two cases when my Galaxy Ace was not recognized on my computer.
1. Which version of the odin you tried to use to restore Galaxy Ace?
- Since Galaxy Ace supports "Odin Multi Downloader 4.xx", instead of normally known Odin. There might be confusion between two different versions of the odin, since they look almost identical. However, the way you can find difference is that "Odin Multi Downloader" have "OPS" button that you can load ops file and another have "PIT" button that you can load pit file. Since JODIN have "PIT" button, it is unlikely to work for flashing Galaxy Ace. (And Jodin requires PIT file, not OPS.)
2. Are you using Windows 8 or older?
- This could be an issue you have encounter, since most computers nowadays have Windows 10, 8.1, or 8. I experienced this problem when I tried to flash my Galaxy Ace I dug out from desk. When I connected Galaxy Ace in download mode to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 computer, it said "USB Not Recognized". When I actively used Galaxy Ace back in 2012, I had Windows 7 and was able to flash Galaxy Ace successfully. I posted the solution if you have a Mac Here with VirtualBox. You also may try using computer with Windows 7 or older.
I hope these information were helpful for your successful recovery of Galaxy Ace.
