What was that OTA update this morning? I accidentally hit update. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Did anyone else get the OTA this morning? I was still half asleep and accidentally hit the update button without even seeing what it was. I am just curious as to what it was for.

Go to settings general, about and take a pic or tell
us what you see under firmware and such

There is an update. It downloaded, but hasn't installed on my phone yet. It is for VoLTE stability and new functions. Any know where these downloads are stored so I can flash with mobile Odin....

That's definitely new

It's definitely a new update, nothing major.

Anyone have the latest firmware? Sammobile doesn't.... I have download it but cant flash with Mobile Odin.

You can do it through kies.

Not to maintain root I cant

I'm sure it includes fixes and such, but more importantly can it still be rooted or will it break? I believe the main reason for the size of the update is so your phone knows Chinese!

I am towelrooted abd on the last update. If you use mobile odin you retain root

Just want everyone to know that I am updated to CNK2 and still rooted via TOWELROOT...... Works great so far!!!

Does anybody have just the firmware only file. Mobile Odin doesn't flash this and has to be done in Odin 3.09.

I do, but can't upload via app

Can you upload it to Dropbox or mega so we can get it there or email it?

I'm on the same situation trying to make sure if, I should get the update or not?

Add new link

So what does it fix?

Adds Chinese and VoLTE

OTA update proposed on my rooted XWLP7 - what is it ?

I am very suprised to have been offered an OTA update - as I had flashed a firmware myself.
I was expecting, that with an unbranded flashed firmware, I would never receive an OTA update.
Am I wrong?
The details:
I flashed a few months ago XWLP7 via Mobile Odin pro, and I am rooted.
The phone itself was purchased sim-free & unbranded, my 3g provider is vodafone uk - pay mothnly.
XWLP7 was taken from the official ICS leaked firmware thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
would at least try to understand if the proposed update is the recent I9100XWLPT
but don't know ho to figure out what the update is.
Also, I would prefer to use ODIN pro again rather than doing an offical update and maybe lose root.
please advise!
thanks!
Yes, the corect regional update is probably LPT.
You will lose the root anyhow, even if you flash with Odin or directly via Wi-Fi.

Why not just flash the latest I9100XWLPT rather than flashing that and loosing root?
I just flashed the LPT and I didnt lose root.Maybe someone can add what the "everoot" function is in mobile odin pro.
I think I lost cwm but I got it back with siyah 3.5 flash.

thanks - I did not accept the update and flashed I9100XWLPT with Mobile Odin Pro directly.
as usual, it worked great and did not lose root.

I also got this update but didn't accept as I heard that Samsung were pushing updates out which removes the search function when holding the menu button because they lost a law suit with Apple or something.
It could just be a rumour but I didn't want to risk it.
Does XWLPT still have the search function?
Also does XWLPT have the hard brick bug?
Cheers!

You can download the 'got brick bug' app from chain fire to check.
Until then I wouldn't do a factory reset or wipe just to make sure
I tried the same update and its just as crap as the older one-and more laggy.Maybe its because Im liking rr3 performance.

Apparently there is a risk of bricking your phone if you have the brick bug and you use Mobile Odin so I wouldn't risk it.
If you're using a Mac you can use Heimdall, it's similar to Odin

I would like to use kies as I think they do more official updates than odin don't get me wrong odin is a sick program but I would like to stick with kies as I broke my old s1 with odin and do not want to have a new problem.
But do you know if I unroot and upgrade ? will my network be locked again?

Voodoo unlock requires ROOT so im guessing not, you could backup your efs then restore it once you've upgraded maybe

Neither kies nor Odin does the upgrade..samsung releases the upgrades..on kies you will have to wait for the updates to be pushed by Sammy..using Odin you can download the update from Sammobile/samsung-updates and update any time you want..
by the way..Odin will not mess with your phone if you perform the steps correctly..Kies took around 50 seconds on my PC to open up..Odin does that in 5 seconds...
though there are some advantages of kies as well..such as backup and recover but for me..Odin trumps Kies

WHAT?!?!
They are the exact same firmwares, kies is just one way of getting the exact same firmware that you get from samfirmware.com. THE EXACT SAME, JUST AS OFFICIAL.
In fact you can get more recent firmware from samfirmware than what you will get from kies. (If your CSC isn't BTU)
Forget about kies and use Odin.
More official.....SMH....

Odin is simple, boot into download mode (vol down+home+power) connect to computer with Odin open (kies closed and removed from system tray) put package in PDA, make sure repartition is NOT ticked and press start.
If you use Odin properly it won't damage anything.
Yes, depending on how you unlocked it there is a chance it will be locked again, Samsung blocked the method that voodoo unlock uses in the updates after XXBLG1.

How to manually install 4.4.2 on Verizon Note 2

I'm wondering this as well, since my phone no longer has an active Verizon SIM in it. Was hoping the update would show up in Kies so I could update that way, but it's still showing 4.3 as the latest. I haven't seen anyone post a dump yet that could be flashed with Odin. I assume this will be the "normal" way to do the upgrade aside from OTA?
Me too.....
We need to wait for sammobile.com to upload the firemware (i605VRUFND7). You can register to this website and download the firmware.
You can use ODIN to flash it.
But sammobile.com not yet uploaded the firmware....waiting

The update using Samsung Kies worked great and only took a few minutes. Didn't have to bother with downloads from slow, unofficial sites - just plug in the phone, click update, and wait 5 minutes.

I'm also running BTU/UK firmware in lieu of my native XAR. Aside from my tablet devoloping a somewhat charming Brittish accent, I have had/noticed any issues.
Thanks, I will DL that one just in case.
Guys, I have a US device (t820) and just tried to install a European firmware. Whatever I do it won't allow me. I get an error unsupported dev_type (installing all the components of the firmware, BL, CSC, AP). Actually, downloaded the US firmware from the xda forum and that cannot be installed as well. hmmm

Thank you. I will give it a try today. OEM Unlock is enabled. One more question, which of the two CSC files should I use, there is which has HOME as part of the file name. Thanks in advance.
I'm wondering if someone here can assist me. I picked up the 128GB version of the Tab S3 at my local Best Buy. I flashed TWRP and Magisk and didn't have any. Then I decided to try out the Flash v1.1 Kernel. Well after I flashed that kernel the Google app kept crashing on me so I decided to start from scratch. The only problem was I couldn't find the XAR firmware for my 128GB S3. I tried the UK firmware listed above and that almost works except that it limits my storage to 32GB instead of 128GB. Has anyone out there found any XAR firmware that can be downloaded? Any idea how to fix the storage issue?
Edit: After poking around I found the correct firmware at the link below.

So, I did this. Pretty impressed with the overall device feel now, SE9 is nice . No hang ups other thank it took a long friggin' time, also remember this will WIPE all the data, so make sure to do a backup prior to. The initial/first phone setup is very iPhone-ish, imo.

Be warned; this update is ONLY for SM-G930A firmware - it has a second-stage updater that blocks all other versions (including SM-G930T, which I myself tried). In other words, it is a carrier-specific update, folks.

If it weren't for this being a daily driver, I'd consider it. However, because it is, that's not an option. So I'll have to wait for either a neutral version or one that will work with the SM-G930T.
