Is it possible to sync your contacts and calender with your computers? It was simple with winmo. I haven't found a good way with Android. Is there a way? Sync with my work computer ok, sync at home deletes something. next just the opposite. Can't seem to keep track of what is new, changed, old, same.
I use Google for my Contacts and Calendar, so it is never out of sync. For work, I use Moxier Mail or Touchdown, depending on my mood, and both sync my work calendar and contacts with no issue.
Are you using Exchange for your home calendar, or are you wanting to integrate your Google and Exchange calendars together, for example?
I run a business and my Thunderbolt makes it 100% easier. I use gmail... So of course everything syncs without me knowing it Contacts, Calendar, Docs, etc. Plus it allows me to scan anything, convert it to a PDF, and hit print from anywhere and it comes out my printer at my office or my house. It also allows me to FAX docs to anyone.
Now, for those using a work email address VIA exchange or similar it doesn't make it that easy. It will however allow you to sync your contacts and calendars VIA the phone. Or to keep it the same as using Windows Device center the HTC users have HTC Sync.

i have exchange for my works emails are great and my calendar entries are mixed in with my personal on my pure calendar widget. perfect!
+1 on exchange, works perfectly. It even syncs my contact photos from exchange to the phone.
I should have said that I'm using launcher Pro and not Sense. I'm using Outlook both at work and at home. Work has 2 accounts, Gmail and our .com Home is just Gmail. I only need the Gmail contacts and calender to sync properly. When I put the phone in the mix, it seems to loose track, of what is new and changed.
I work for myself as a web and software developer and it's the primary way i keep track of contacts, message/email clients, keep track of tasks and in a pinch, ssh into remote servers to fix things when I am not near a computer.
If your phone is used for your work, you can also write it off as a tax deduction for both purchasing it and usage.
Yes, I use it for work. Like I said, I had no problem with winmo. It worked perfectly. What App are using on your phone to create appointments or tasks? What do you use to sync the task or calender to the computer or to google?
Tasks is one area that Android is weak out of the box. Otherwise, Android does a much better job of handling calendar items, contacts, and email in my opinion. I came from a winmo background also, and I haven't been happier after getting the original droid.
We are using exchange corporately, and my phone connects up perfectly to our exchange server to sync calendar items, contacts, and email. Personally and for a non-profit I work for, I use 3 different gmail accounts to organize calendar items, contacts (literally 3-4000 contacts total), and two gmail email accounts. The device works perfectly.
For gmail, just use the built in gmail, calendar, and contacts (although AOSP contacts is better than sense contacts, IMO). For exchange, an app like Moxier mail, Roadsync, or Touchdown will give you access to your tasks (if necessary). If tasks are not necessary, the built in email, calendar, and contacts work great.

I guess maybe I'm doing something wrong then. I entered an appointment in my phone today. A minute later it popped up on my computer. Great! I go home and sync my phone to my computer and it deleted the appointment out of my phone and off of google. My contacts are a mess. I have 3 or 4 of everything. Some with photos, some without. Some with Facebook numbers. Every time I sync my phone I get a popup with 15 overdue appointments. I dismiss them and next there they are again. Maybe I should try getting rid of the google calender and contacts?

I just use google calendar mostly and sync to my computer. There's also tasks apps out there that sync like http://www.rememberthemilk.com/ that will work with google calendar and standalone. They also have an application for android.

So you're using HTC sync, right? It sounds like you have the settings such that the home computer always takes precedence. Plug your phone into the computer then go find that HTC Sync setting and change it to sync to the most recent change (regardless of device/computer). Once done, the computer will be synced to the phone if that's where the last change occurred.
I use my android for my work exchange account which keeps the corp email and calendar in sync with my work outlook. And events show up on the Google calendar. That's about it But it works great.
+1 Touchdown for Contacts/Calendar/Mail. Totally worth the 20 something bucks I paid for it.
The settings in HTC sync were correct, but I think it was HTC sync causing the problems. If I give it enough time, the phone updates google with contacts and the calender and google updates the computer. Then I use Taskos for the tasks. I quit using HTC sync for anything.

I have over 2k contacts. Exchange runs flawlessly. It costs about $10 per month but we'll worth it. Pm me for any questions.

I have configured my phone properly for a microsoft exchange server. Everything syncs fine (mail, calendar) except the tasks. In the stock task app (I assume its called "Tasks" since in German it named "Aufgaben") i can press sync in the preferences but it won't update my tasks.
Has anybody a clue how to get the the tasks synchronized?
I know i could probably switch to a different task app like Touchdown but I first will check whether its possible with the stock one.
I'm just starting off with Android, and I can't figure out how to get my Google Calendar synced with the S3. Here is a screenshot of when I hit Calendars in "S Calendar": http://i.imgur.com/p3CcV.png
When I create a new event, I can choose which calendar it should be in: http://i.imgur.com/7V5lS.png
I created a Test event and tried choosing either of the other calendars, saving and syncing, but no matter what I cannot see the event on any other machine with my Google account. In Accounts and Sync, my Google account options are all checked to sync. This damned thing will not sync, though
(Contacts syncs fine, thankfully). Would appreciate any help!

My advice is to login from your notebook or desktop computer first and access Google Calendars directly as you can setup your main calendar much easier there. Once setup (calendar name, color, sharing options, etc), you can easily go under S Calendar and choose to sync the name of the calendar you just created online.
Afterwards, you'll be able to add/delete events from both your device or on your computer. Hope this helps!
Thanks, the problem is a little different now as I finally got the damned thing to sync with my Google account. Now, every time I create a new Event I keep getting the default calendar to be Samsung Calendar: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iq8bco0pnp7s2ni/Screenshot_2012-06-28-21-23-52.png
Yet in the S Planner Settings > Calendars I have this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hdj6hpp3tjvo66y/Image-1530870737.png As you can see, I only have my Gmail account checked, I have the My Calendars/Tasks and Samsung account all unchecked.
I even went into Accounts and Sync and unchecked every option for my Samsung account there, so the only account syncing right now on my phone is my Google account. Still the new Events in S Planner default to the Samsung Calendar!?! Greatly appreciate any way to solve this
Have you tried clearing data in calendar and calendar storage in settings yet? Then resync calendar stuff after that.

I'm having the same issue after I created a new gmail account. It syncs fine with my BlackBerry. When I added my new gmail account on my S2 it wouldn't sync my calendar or contacts. I thought there was an issue with my S2. It won't sync to my S3 as well. Is there something in gmail that I have to do? The calendar dates are still syncing on my old gmail account.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks, I did that, even rebooted the phone, but Samsung Calendar is still default. I think I'm going to use Jorte and forget about S Planner, despite how great it looks :/
I fixed my gmail calendar sync issues. No need to respond in case someone figures it out later on.
I got Calendar Calendar Events synced just fine, but apparently it won't sync Google Tasks. It wants you to use the Samsung-specific task system I guess. That sucks.
As soon as I root my phone I will delete the calendar app. I use the "Jorte" calendar app (available in Play store) which syncs everything and has the most robust options of any calendar app that I've seen so far (wince the last time I went app hunting last November, could be new apps by now). Jorte allows you to view Google Calendar Events and Google Tasks at the same time in multiple, customizeable different types of views (monthly, various versions of weekly views, daily, etc). Jorte is SUPER customizeable. I have found no other app that comes close in terms of functionality.
Another app call "LLama - Location Profiles" lets you automatically customize just about any aspect of your phone depending on your location and time of day. It will change your profiles automatically when you enter or leave a location at certain times. You can even tell it to remind you about something based on location and time. For example, you can have Llama remind you to "Clean Mom's car" when you arrive at Mom's house, or to "Ask my boss that question before I leave work!" if you are at your work location and it is almost time to leave.
That's a shame Samsung won't let you sync Google Tasks.
It's even more of a shame that Android's native Calendar app doesn't support Google Tasks. Come on now Google!

Thanks, yeah I have gone through oodles of calendar and task apps over the last few days, tried damn near everything worth trying, and I've settled with an excellent combo for me: Astrid + Jorte + Agenda Widget. It does everything I need. Thanks for the Lama app heads-up, will check it out!

Can you share what you did?
Similar issue, if I create an event using s panner on my phone, the event doesn't sync to my gmail calender.
However, the planner does tkae events from the desktop g-calender.

same here
What's the "desktop g-calendar?"
Though I've been using Jorte all this time quite happily, after resetting a few days back I solidified that not entering your Samsung account information on first boot of the phone solves the S Planner syncing/calendar choice issue pretty much. You must set your Google account up first, then a Samsung account if you'd like. S Planner will then see the Google account as "default" and use it.
desktop as in when i access from my desktop pc. or laptop.

S3 Calendar Syncing issue
I just added a Google Calendar from the play store. Synced instantly!

Dear Google-Android- and Samsung-S3-developers!!
Here is a list of some very annoying facts:
- I have a Sasmung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 with the latest Android-Version 4.1.2.
- if I set up a new Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account on my S3 and sync it with my corperate Exchange 2010 Server I have duplicated entries in my S-Planner Calendar right from the very first sync.
- especially birthday entries (untimed entries with yearly repeat) are duplicated.
- I can reproduce this bug no matter how often I delete the calendar memory, remove and re-instal the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account, reset my phone etc.
- if I google this bug I get thousands of hits where users are reporting the very same bug with their Android phones (like in this thread).
- some of these duplicate entry bug reports go back for more than 1 year but so far no solution.
- syncing of contacts, emails and calendar entries with MS Exchange is considerd to be a basic function of a smart phone. That's why this functions is part of the pre-installed OS.
- the pre installed Exchange clients on all other devices (Apple iPhone, Nokia Symbian or Windows phones etc.) do NOT have this bug. Thus this is an Android bug and not MS Exchange.
SO WOULD YOU PLEASE FINALLY FIX THIS ANNOYING BUG IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I currently use the app LocalSync to sync my outlook with my Galaxy S3. I sync the following - Tasks, Calendar, and Contacts. Lately, I've been getting fed up with the app and I want a change.
I know there are a few alternatives (such as MyPhoneExplorer / DejaOffice), so I wanted to see what people's experiences are with these apps. There aren't too many of them available, probably because most people just use google and gmail for everything. But I swear by outlook, so I need a really good app that is reliable. Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
A friend of mine uses the android calendar as a task list, by setting an "appointment" for each task.
For example: instead of a task for "Call Kim, 2PM" she creates a calendar appointment from 2PM to 3PM.
This is really inefficient and difficult to manage so she wants to start using a tasks app. The problem is she has HUNDREDS of tasks to move.
Is there any way to automatically create tasks from calendar appointments?
Thanks!
