I had my Droid X2 on 2.3.5 and I wanted to install an JB ROM on it, I read that you can't install a JB ROM on 2.3.5, that it had to be SBF'd back to 2.3.4. Well, I have done that...now my problem is rooting. I can't get it rooted with any program i've tried...MotorolaOneClick/Pete's Tools, Droid 3 Root Script V7, nothing is working. Always fails at step 3 where it tries to addd SU....I have it set to Charge Only on USB, I have USB Debugging on as well. I had it rooted on 2.3.5, so I know the drivers are installed....but I can't get it rooted on 2.3.4
SOLVED!!
It was apparently the computer I was using.....I tried another computer and it didn't do anything at all...I tried a third computer and it rooted on first try!

I believe on 2.3.4 you could have used framaroot. I saw a youtube video about it.

Framaroot works on the Droid X but don't think it works on any system version of the Droid x2
Likely problem was drivers

For the DX2, i don't believe so, I'm sure I tried Framaroot, and it failed, but could be wrong.
I just saw a YouTube video abt it so I really don't know. I do know framaroot, ginger break, z4root, and universal androot won't work for 2.3.5 it sucks because I have no computer.

Yah, don't think nicole knows what she is talking about,
but try it, only takes 2 secs for framaroot to run.
I've already flashed cm10 and I don't have my own PC to sbf back to 2.3.4. But with 2.3.5 it said not vulnerable enough or something like that.

All of the 2.1 releases from HTC - including ALL of the leak versions - are rootable with theone-click apk (app), and this is far, far easier to use than the method that Huntredge links to (above).
Same goes for the Universal Root For Dummies method (Androidforums.com) - it will even work on cupcake releases, too.

Explain the steps you took in detail please.
Remember that after running the one click root, you need to do a full reboot once, then power off and hold send + power buttons till you get to bootloader, then (i believe, haven't had my eris in a while) you press vol down, then vol up to get to the custom recovery. Then flash the rootme.zip ( i think thats what its called) to be rooted. Then do a nand backup and flash away!
I don't remember all the steps but i used the one click on mine but I have the actual 2.1. I just did all the same steps for his. I'm gonna try it again later

Just updated to 6.12.173 Android 2.3.6, like a dumb ass and superuser is still on my phone, I have uninstalled it but it is still showing up in Applacations -> Manage Applications -> All, but no where else except in in /system/app when useing root explorer but i can't delete it as i have no ROOT access. My question is can i re-root useing Motofail if superuser is still on my phone? And second dose anyone know of a way to get superuser off of my phone? i did a factory reset and that didn't work, hell the custome boot anamation i made is still on my phone. Should i try another factory reset?
Sorry for the bold words just wanting to make my self as clear as i can.
Yes, you can reroot, and you'll have to to remove the superuser app from the system partition.

OK cool I was just nervous about using motofail since I hadn't read that a lot of people had tried it. Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm gonna try and I'll let you know how it goes. If it doesn't work we may end up having to wait for ICS to see if that will take care of the problem. I hope that's not the case thou.

Cool I'm glad you got it fixed! I know that before the next update I'm going to uninstall superuser and/or unroot before updating. On a second note do we know when ICS official release will hit the RAZR?

Hey everyone
A friend of mine played around with my Atrix 4g (unlocked from AT&T) and I think he may have accepted the OTA update, because now my phone will boot up fine - just as normal - but then when it has been on for 20-40 seconds at the homescreens, it just says "powering off" and it powers off as if I had shut it down normally. When it's shut down it automaticly tries to start again, and the whole thing starts over!
I'm not very good at stuff like this so if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it, so I can get off my horrible old Nokia back-up phone
First of all was your ATRIX rooted and had a custom rom installed?

Your best bet is to either flash sbf to 2.3.4 stock using RSD LITE, or factory reset it before it turns off on u again.

Well since it always manages to shut me down before I can reach the reset-"switch" I guess that leaves me one option
Sbf it is. But before I post link to all downloads an post steps I need to know what version u have currently on your ATRIX right now.

It says 4.5.91 under system version and the android version is 2.3.4
I will post link for the sbf file and rsd lite. Soon. Pm me

Www.das8nt.com/downloads.html if u have at&t it will be second green box. Click on 4.5.91(2.3.4) service SBF(stock)
Then go to first green box and click on RSD Lite 5.6. (MUST HAVE DRIVERS INSTALLED)
sent from "ATRIX-BEAST" using voice commands.
That seems to have done the trick! The phone now boots up normally, and all the At&t crap is back
How should I update my phone to the newest version? It's now running android 2.3.6 with the system version being 4.5.141
Thanks for all your help!
Your ATRIX is now 2.3.6 u see it worked. Now what ever u do do not downgrade back to 2.3.4 or even re-flash the 2.3.6 it will just brick your ATRIX. Now if u want to root it u would have to look if there's even a root method for 2.3.6.

You got. Just don't install a recovery and before you install any ota, temp un root. Then restore root after. Also unfreeze anything before and do not delete any system apps.

So should I uninstall Bootstrap?
Yes to uninstall bootstrap. Separate thought; Motofail root method wouldn't create any ota blockers right no extra steps to take if used that method?

Had 2.3.5 .418 originally. sbf'd down to 2.3.4 .380. Rooted using Zergush cause cudnt find a working link for Petes one click method. So now i want to install eclipse, i tried to flash back to 2.3.5 .418, but since Zergush deleted google maps, the flash failed. Installed google maps & it still failed. What are my options?
Your best bet would be to sbf back to 2.3.4. Then update to 2.3.5. Then root using the magic md5 method. Flash Eclipse and enjoy.

I was hoping there was some kind of easy fix like remove the battery, make a wish, put it back, & there ya go. Thanks.
Well you could try that! Not sure how effective it would be, but it's worth a shot.
