[Q] Defective USB port. - Motorola Droid X2

I have an MB870 that I would like to upgrade to CM10.
Major problem however. The USB port is defective.
Can not connect to PC, nor can it be charged.
I have extra batteries and a charger. Change batteries every morning. Keep extra in car.
Is there any way to upgrade by downloading the software to an external SDcard?
Any help appreciated.

Have you tried restarting the phone?
Was it like that straight out of the box?
Have you pulled the battery?

I have tried restarting the phone several times. The problem is basically when I switch to another ROM. I'm back to stock ROM now and everything works ok. But still sometimes on stock I click on top and it wants to click on bottom.
Really weird.

Is it plugged into the wall charger?
With some outlets, the wall charger can wack out the touchscreen.
Which ROM - we only have Cognition beta, CM7, and stock deodexed. If you flashed something from the I9100, who knows what it'll do.
It actually seems like the non oem charger+ usb debugging causes the wacky touchscreen...not the outlet..

I had it with an OEM charger combined with a Sears inverter.
I think it's anything that provides a noisy power supply interferes with the touchscreen controller.

[Q] iMac charging

Hi,
I tried searching - but couldn't find any answer about this issue.
My iMac doesn't seem to charge my S3. Whenever the USB is connected, it is showing as if it "charging" but it barely charges the phone, rather it keeps discharging.
Is anyone experiencing this aswell?
Thanks!
USB provides lower voltage than a wall charger, so depending on use it could be at a standstill, discharging at the same rate its charging. Plug into a wall for much faster charging

Thanks.
I thought that it might be it, but the iMac sure charges the iPad and iPhone 4s easily.
Might be the 40-whatever pin charger the i-stuffs use is parallel charging different cells of the battery which wouldn't happen with android (most batts have 4 pins, 2 for temp and 2 for use, while the microusb has 5 pins, 2 for power, 2 for data, and one isn't connected I believe). Idk BC I don't like apple lol

you can flash custom kernel and change the default(475mA) USB charge to 800mA, tested and charge fast on USB mode

Well that adds one thing good about rooting(if he's still reading and knowing what are the pros and cons in rooting) :good:

Rooting to fast charge from a laptop? I'd keep my warranty jk lol but seriously stick the damn thing into a wall lol
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Note that you can badly damage computer motherboards if they do not provide the necessary power if you decide to configure the phone to use >500mA charging.
Most computer manufacturers have got rid of current limiters, so if the hardware cannot handle over 50%overload the weakest part will blow - which might well be a power conductor within the layers of the board, potentially damaging other components too.
Best case your usb plug just dies.
Even if the iMac support fastcharge, you'll always have to remember to lower it again before plugging it into other computers.

it will not damage your phone, but on your pc/laptop. make sure it supports.
(see post above)
Thanks guys. I'll just stick with wall charging.

Battery draining will plugged in.

Can anyone tell me what may be the problem. My battery is constantly draining all of a sudden even when charging(usb). I run AOKP JB but this has never been an issue before when running this rom. I reverted back to factory and its still draining. Phone is also very hot while on charger.
Edit:
Just pulled the battery at 49% and put it back in. Now it reads 24%
Battery may be goin bad. Usb cord may be bad. Micro usb port of ur phone may be bad, dirty etc. So trouble shoot it.
Does the wall charger charge ur phone ? Does another battery (same kind that is) charge or not charge ? Does that usb charge another phone ? Try a different cord. . . Etc. Etc.
Keep us posted.

Its a combination of loose port and loose connector in the cable. Replace cable for temporary cure.

Or a kernel or config problem.
Download and flash again.
Try other ROM.
I already have this issue. Changing kernel did the job for me.

I changed kernels a lot and it never fixed it. Changing the cable did for me at.least.
I been having.the charging.paused.voltage to high error recently that is getting very annoying.

I had this problem recently as well. I thought my battery was going but that wasn't the problem. So I ended up buying a new micro USB cable and it fixed the battery draining for sure.

R u using a non samsung wall charger ?? If yes...then the Output voltage/amps may be more than 5.0V === 0.7A, which would trigger the error message.

Standard Samsung wall charger. I have an app that reads charge current and its always around 640 - 650mA.

Wow. Turns out that it was just the cable. Replaced it and all is well. Thanks for all the help.

Ridiculously slow charging?

My charging cable hasn't really been working well and I just noticed it only has four golden colored prongs inside of it. Can anyone confirm this isn't correct before I order a new one?
Edit yea its not the cable this thing is just barely charging.

Is it the OE cable? And charger? If its not that's your problem.

mine does the same thing from time to time. if its charging slow unplug it and plug back in, then make sure the red light is on. i have noticed sometimes when i get a email or text and the charging indicator goes off(red light), it seems to only be trickle charging per say.

I don't think I have ever used the charger & usb cable that came with my Note 2. I have never had any issues with it charging. In fact, I am currently using a Motorola wall unit with a no name cable upstairs, & a cheap wall unit from Walmart & the cable from an Acer tablet. Both charge fine.
I'm using OEM charger and cable I installed an app called galaxy charging current and its showing a ridiculous fluctuation. I'm thinking it may be a faulty charger. It charges much faster on my car charger.

Touch misreads

On jellybean stock rooted. Not charging, phone randomly reads dozens of fake touches. Nearly unusable. Checked show touches in dev options, shows 5+ touches when it happens. Any help?

Quit using a cheap charger.
If you are using the included charger, try running it off of a powerstrip, or with a different USB cable.
I'm not sure why, but this phone seems more sensitive to bad/unsteady electricity than others I've used in the past.

For some reason I took that to mean that his phone wasn't getting charged when plugged in.
You may have a bad phone, OP.

Good point... Perhaps it is I who is misinterpreting. It was my assumption that OP mentioned that to eliminate the most common cause of funky touch response, which you mentioned.

Then I'd agree with Matrix. Stock firmware and not plugged in pretty much leaves hardware as your issue...

I've personally had touch misreads on this phone when using cheap chargers, so that's why I assumed what I did.
I also had this happen to my old Inspire when using a cheap DealExtreme charger, but only then.
Basically, the touches misreading seems to indicate that the current being supplied to the digitizer is inconsistent. Obviously, there are multiple things that could cause this.
chrisphoenix7, have you been using the supplied charger?
