I currently have a Verizon Galaxy s 4 and I just updated to I545VRUFNK1 Baseband running 4.4.2. I would seriously like to root this phone as I am growing bored with it. Is there a link on how to root it and if so can someone please post a link for me. I would like to keep use of my Galaxy Gear 2, but if that is not possible I will just sell it. I apologize if this has been asked a million and one times. I had root once before but lost it with an update.
Thanks in advance and thanks to everyone for their hard work. I also wanna apologize if this is in the wrong place.
I'm a Verizon user with this same update/fix (I545VRUFNK1) on Galaxy s4 and have lost root, I tried the trusty towelroot, and now it's saying that this device isnt supported.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, This update that samsung did for me lost my root, and threw back on all the Bloatware. It did however fix my daily random reboots (averaged 36 a day) wifi Password sticking issue, screen rotation issue.
Thanks in advance!
grr8xtc out of curiosity perhaps you could try the towel root that worked for before this newest update (I545VRUFNK1) maybe you will get lucky, and if not then we know Verizon broke it on us - here is the link that worked for me when trying to root before todays update - http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...ve-and-maybe-almost-any-other-current-device/

hello there. first off there is a work around to get root access for NK1. But i would like to say you are in the wrong thread posting this question on here. It should be post in the questions and answers thread. but ok getting back to your question. for you to gain root.
1.first you must downgrade your device to NC5. Try using the no wipe technique first to see if that helps for you to keep your data if not you need to wipe.
2. after you have successfully downgraded used toowel root to gain root access on your device.
3. Used muniz_ri root method to root NK1.
Well i hope this helps and here are the links.

Thanks everyone for the info. I will give the downgrade route a try. Again I am sorry for posting in the wrong place. I guess if I would of read a little bit more I would of found out the correct place to ask my questions.

the security updates mean nothing for your root installation. I don't know exactly what they are but it's nothing to do with root.

Thanks Coycaine..Is there a way I can go back to build VRUEMK2 and then Root it from there. That way I can download a custom ROM for the 4.4.2 KitKat?? Does this make any sense? Sorry, i'm slowly learning all this.
If you already updated to kitkat there is absolutely no way u can downgrade unless u updated it using surge update to kitkat. But right now u r stuck in kitkat. For me I am still on rooted mk2 waiting for a root for kitkat. U should of waited before updating.

You may want to search these threads. I don't remember reading about anyone trying to downgrade from NC5 back to MK2 yet, but I'm sure someone has at least tried. The leaked KK build (NC2) was able to be downgraded, but with some problems/issues.

There are some that tried and are now bricked until there is an ODIN file for NC5.
If root is important, one should just be patient, sit back, wait.

I'm always amused by these "I took the update... Help I lost root" posts. It takes time and unless you're actively working on a root solution.... Leave the people alone and let them work. If root is important to you, then never update until a solution is found first or your stuck. No amount of begging will find a solution faster.

Every time I think I will try to go without root'n, they screw something else up and I find I need it again. This sd permissions problem has really messed me up. I had to move 3gig worth of data back to my internal memory to get some of my apps to work and I don't have much room available on it. If I knew this, I wouldn't have upgraded.

Google put restrictions on SD cards that broke most programs that rely on them. Search for KitKat and sd card for more details.

From what I read, if the app is not one of the pre-installed apps that comes with the ROM then the app will not have permission to freely access the SD card. There is an App to fix this in the Play Store but I think the app needs root. This really sucks. I thought I used TB to freeze the OTA on my wife's phone but she approved the OTA last night and now I am stuck until someone creates a new root exploit.

I was also foolish enough to accept the OTA update before checking to make sure I could re-root my phone after the update. Stuck waiting for a solution now. Hopefully someone releases a root solution soon. Let me know If any root fix comes up soon please! Thank you.

I'm wondering the same thing. I recently had to get a replacement phone and unfortunately it's running stock 4.4.2. First time I've ever had a phone with a bootloader that couldn't be unlocked. I would like to at least have my phone rooted. Anyone out there willing to share a root solution with us?

OK, Verizon version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784860
You can root now and cancel the update, or let the update happen and follow the instructions in the NE9 update guide. The only thing that's missing in the guide is a link to Odin itself, so here it is for you. Odin is a utility for flashing Samsung firmware. Just make sure you follow the instructions given exactly.

Yes. You can update and re-root too, as long as you do the kernel flashing stuff with Odin described in that tutorial.

Use Towel Root
Don't update to new firmware
Use Odin to flash kernel and use Custom Roms on Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5?

That's my understanding. I'll probably be doing the same thing with my Note 3 in a couple days, once it arrives in the mail. But yours is a different device from a different carrier, with a locked bootloader, while mine will be unlocked.
Will CF auto root would it be able to root android 5.0.1. I really do not care about the Samsung knots being trigger my phone is already out of warranty. I just have insurance if it gets stolen or I drop it in water. Or should I wait until they find a root method without triggering Samsung knots. I read about triangle away but like I said at this point I can careless if it gets trigger. What are you guys opinion?

Fyi...... @dgutierrez04 was the guy that pulled the OC1 ota update for me when no one else could due to the two part 5.0 update. He also took one for the team during testing of the OC1, Stock Rooted ROM so many of you enjoy today by updating his bootloader to OC1.
I assume he has no backup phone.
That said, it seems a lot of people have to use Kies... as Odin reports fails...
I did not root my I545 verizon so now I have lollipop oc1. My question is should I not take the next upgrade for lollipop or at this point does it make a difference as far as getting root?
Thoughts are more than welcome

Mistakes were made but a lesson was deff. learned.
Just started reading up on rooting and the benefits seem great, especially on this Verizon phone.
I'm wondering if there's currently a root available (guessing not or this forum would be all over it.)
Has any site/user from here stated someone working on one? Would be awesome to know.
New to rooting, hope to become more familiar, any insight would be cool! Thanks
If you take the OC1 update there is no root for it.
However if you have root there are ways post on here to keep it and get OC1.
Search the forums and read up on your options.

Yeah I took the update... Does that mean I'll never be able to root... ever, or I just have to wait for a root to come out for the version?
Was not rooted before this.
Currently there is no way to root. There's no way to know if anyone will find a way to do it or to downgrade in order to. I'm sure some are working on it, but you just have to wait to see what happens.
