I was messing around with my phone and flashed the wrong recovery file for it. Now every time I try to boot the phone into recovery, I get a message saying that it is an unapproved program and I need to bring it into the Verizon store to correct the problem. I guess this is what is called a "soft brick". To fix it, I just boot into download mode and then cancel. The phone boots up normally after this. My question is, how do I go about flashing the samsung stock recovery so that I won't keep getting this error? Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Build number is NG6
You'll need to install Safestrap. Our phones can't run custom recoveries unless you have the mdk bootloader

So last night I tried to install clockwork mod after rooting... Apparently I hadn't installed the custom boot loader. After clockwork mod installs I tell it to backup because I wanted to try the Jedi rom... I get the non-verizon software error telling me to take my phone to Verizon. That's not an option as I got it used and it was rooted. So while trying to flash it to stock I get an error every time upon updating sboot.img, trying to install the stock bootloader same issue, modded boot loader same issue. At one point I simply re-partitioned it and it managed to boot but touch wasn't working (obviously it didn't finish installing) and I was getting sd card corrupted message. Sounds like a format may be in order? After rebooting and telling odin to wipe the nand and then I get the kies message... I'm downloading kies now but I have to go to work. Any advice?
yes read the stickies... Research then flash, not the other way around.
I have a Galaxy Note that was on Telus in Canada. I attempted to follow these instructions to install Cyanogenmod: wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_quincyatt. Had alot of problems working with Windoz 8 - but eventually **seemed** to get the CWM installed. However, when I did the reboot to recovery mode, I got 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.' I can't seem to do anything to get past this. I'm pretty much a beginner with modding my phone, so before I do anything else stupid, I'm asking for help. What can I do to either a) get back to my original install or b) try again with Cyanogenmod?
Thanks!

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Picked the wrong package to flash and got the same error message. I had to boot into download mode and then load the stock ROM via Odin, then root.
That fixed it for me and now I'm flashing custom ROMS again (and carefully reading the name of the ROM I'm flashing before hand lol).
First, to install CWR on a Canadian phone you have to pull the battery from the phone and disconnect the usb cable the instant Odin says flash was successful, otherwise the phone reboots and overwrites the custom recovery with the stock recovery. Then put the battery back in the phone and boot into recovery. Then format, wipe, and flash the rom.
I was attempting to flash a custom recovery before I caught wind that the vruame7 was a hard cookie to crumble and killed my recovery, is there anyway to get a recovery back on the phone so it can at least be updated?

The ME7 bootloader won't let you flash a custom recovery - the stock recovery is still installed.
However, the attempt to flash the custom recovery set a flag that forces the device to boot into downloader mode.
The way to get out of this is to flash a stock ROM on top. I'd try the no-wipe ME7 ROM, then if that fails, the full-wipe.
(I'd suggest the Verizon recovery assistant for that.) Just be aware of the fact that the full wipe will cause you to lose everything on your phone.

Thanks for the advice, downloading the required things now. Hopefully I will get everything back to normal.
I did the exact same thing as you Leaddore.. you will be just fine following the above directions.
So I'd been having some problems lately with my phone hanging on the Samsung screen on boot. Been running CM11 1/1/2014 nightly most recently. Decided to try using TWRP instead of CWM. That didn't seem to help my issue, so I tried installing CWM again. I used an app called Recovery Tools to download the touch version of CWM. After it said it installed, I tried to boot into recovery and got the error "Unauthorized software found. Please contact Verizon." (paraphrased a little).
Doing some research it looks like that error typically comes up when the bootloader is locked. Now, obviously I had my bootloader unlocked (well, Loki'd) because I was running CM11. Any help fixing this? I'm able to bypass the warning screen on boot if I hold down vol up + power like I'm going into download mode, but then hit vol down to cancel to boot up the phone. Once booted everything is ok, but any reboot just brings that up again. Using ROM manager to flash CWM recovery seems to work ok and it says its installed, but same issue. So does trying to flash TWRP from Goo.
If I were to run this tool that I used to root and loki before (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301720) to install a recovery, would I be able to get everything going again? I think that somehow the recovery I installed wasn't Loki'd, although I picked the right one for my device.
Thank you in advance for any replies.
The fix I found was by pure dumb luck. I ended up trying to flash a recovery with Odin. Odin failed but reboot back into the os. I then used the twrp manager app from the playstore (mainly because goomanager wasn't downloading the recovery at the time) to flash the latest twrp recovery and all was good. Even though Odin failed at flashing the recovery I still think it helped somehow. I haven't thought much about why but I might have to now.

You could probably try using ODIN to get back to stock MDK and then Re-Root and install a recovery after.
Edit: And then flash CM11 again.

Will this one-click stock ROM work?
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p... S4 (Verizon) (SCH-I545)/Stock ROMs/One-Click
or, which of the files on this page are what I would want? (about 1/3 of the way down for SCH-I545)

I was actually able to reflash TWRP w/ their app from the Play Store. Still get a lot of boot hangs on the Samsung logo though. Seemed to happen less with CWM, but now I'm too scared to try to install a different recovery. I appreciate all your help guys.
Hello all,
Recently I bought the S8 Plus and I want to sell my S6 Edge, so I wanted to clean it first before actually selling it.
I rooted my phone before, I can't remember how or what software I used, I have a feeling it was Odin,
anyway, I cleaned up my phone by doing a factory reset from within Android's settings.
Since that moment, my phone is stuck in TWRP's Recovery mode.
I have multiple stock roms, but Odin is not able to make a connection with the phone, because I can't get into boot mode.
I've also read things about ADB Sideload, but that freezes up my phone.
Then I read about some command line to type in via the terminal, but that didn't work either.
Also trying to install stuck roms didn't do anything.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get my phone back into bootmode so I can load up Odin and put a stock rom on it?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Boot to Download from TWRP Recovery (Reboot - select - Download)
Fire-up Odin, flash one of your multiple stock roms.

That doesn't work either.
If I select Download, my phones freezes up.
Update:
I managed to update TWRP, making me able to go back to Download mode!
But, once I tried Odin to flash a stock rom, it failed.
Also, my KNOX Warrenty Void is set '1'.
Am I still able to install any roms or get this KNOX fixed?

If you have a PC, use samsung smart switch to re-initialize your device.
And you can not do anything for tripped knox.
