Hi, I have to root / unlock bootloader (if necessary) and install a custom kk rom for one of my friend. (I made him buy a xt912) ...
Any links will be very helpful. Thanks.
First, you can't unlock the bootloader.
Install the .165 JB update.
Root with Matt's Utility.
Install Safestrap.
Follow instructions on how to install a custom rom.
Find a KK rom and install on a slot in SS.
Personally, I like the Axxionkat Rom. Liquidsmooth is good also.
I rooted, installed safestrap and installed this rom :
http://www.drdevs.com/devs/axxionkat/Weekly/Motorola/Spyder - Umts/
without even bothering with slots (I don't know what they are) and had my cellphone bricked later I was able to recover it using the jb utility by installing the original firmware. What I did wrong ?

It's possible you flashed the wrong rom.
Is the phone GSM or CDMA? It will tell you in Settings>About Phone>Build Number. It will say utms, utms_spyder or just spyder.
GSM = Umts or Utms_spyder
CDMA = Spyder
The slots are there so you can install multiple roms without wiping the stock system. Some people like to have a few different roms to play with. I've never installed a rom over the stock on my Razr, I always used slot 1 in case the was some sort of catastrophe, I could always go to stock. There are many videos on youtube that show you how to use the slots.

Thanks alot for help mate. It says "CDMA_N_05.21.00RS LTEDC_U_09.1D.00" under baseband version and "9.8.20-72_VZW-16" under built unumber. It has android 4.1.2 is it really necessary to update to .165 first and install gapps too if I just want to install that rom ?
You don't have to update to .165 but the update fixed some bugs. When installing a custom rom, you need to install gapps. My previous phone would soft brick if I forgot to install gapps after installing the rom.
When you go to flash the rom, add the rom file and then add the gapps file. Then flash. It will flash both zips for you.

Okay that means I have to go for UMTS rom right? A link for compatible gapps for this rom would be appreciated. Thanks
No. Your rom is CDMA. You have to use SPYDER. UTMS and UTMS_SPYDER are GSM roms.
Use this rom:

The Gapps is easy to find with a simple search on the forum. Search for Kitkat Gapps in the Droid Razr 'Search This Forum' field. There's a thread for PA Gapps packages in the Droid Razr development forum.
Got it working Thanks alot even without Gapps.

I'm running a RAZR MAXX XT912. Around Christmas I loaded it up with the Jellybean OTA leak ROM (98.72.8.XT912.Verizon.en.US kernel) and all was well and everything worked how it should. Using Safestrap, I flashed WYKA (version 2.x) on slot 1 and since it was built on the same kernel as the leak ROM, both my stock and my slot 1 ROMs worked perfectly.
Shortly after the Official Jellybean OTA was released, WYKA updated to version 3.x and stopped working. It required a kernel update 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US to fix the problem. I updated the kernel and my WYKA ROM on slot 1 was working great, but now my stock ROM won't boot because it uses a different kernel.
I have tried several things to get my stock ROM to work:
1. I tried a factory reset in Recovery mode
2. I tried to downgrade the kernel back to the leak kernel
3. I tried flashing the ROM I have installed on slot 1 to the stock ROM
None of these methods have worked for me. Now my stock ROM is unable to boot and is basically stuck in a reboot cycle. Luckily my slot 1 ROM is still working great, so at least I'm not without a working ROM, but I really want to have my stock ROM working if at all possible.
Do you have any suggestions on what I should try next?

Reflash with what? WYKA or OTA?
Is there someplace where I can download the official Jellybean OTA with the 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US kernel and flash it from Recovery?

if your version is that 9.8.2O-72_VZW-16
Blur_Version.98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US you can find i here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_spyder/list.php
if you flash ota.
but you can wait for someone for reply and help you with another way.
by the way read this
Once you flash this firmware, you cannot flash another with lower Main Secure Version (results stuck at mbm).
Main Secure Version (secure version of cdt.bin) is written to eFuse.
This firmware requires following secure versions to boot. Partitions marked as "checked once" are checked
only after being flashed with fastboot (or RSD Lite).
You can try using this: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...xt912-jellybean-windows-mac-linux-all-in-one/
That will give you stock back.
Thanks guys! I'm downloading both the ROM and firmware flashing tool... I'll let you know how it works out!

Thank you!! The DROID RAZR Utility fixed it! I'm now running the official Jellybean OTA and I'm rooted.
Soo... first, i just couldnt understand how to upgrade to JB while being able to go back to ICS, only to find out how easy it was after i had already flashed the Fido firmware through RSD Lite, destroying any possibility of going back to ICS -_- anyways, i rooted it and flashed a stock JB Rom i was looking forward to flashing since i started to check out the Rom selection (it was the stock JB Brasil.en.BR) and as i flashed it, the phone wouldnt boot -___- it would stay stuck right before the boot animation with the red led on.... so i managed to flash back to the Fido firmware through RSD and rooted it again, then flashed cm10.1 and it actually went well! it flashed and booted like its supposed to!! but, then again, as perfect as it seems for aosp lovers, it just aint for me... so i tried to flash the stock JB Rom i originally had in mind from cm10.1, only to see it fail again and get stuck during boot before the boot animation... then i tried flashing another JB Rom (my first rom v0.91 i believe its called) and the same happened... btw, i was wiping data, cache and dalvik cache in between each Rom flash... so, i just gave up and restored my backup of the Fido firmware that i had made before i started attempting all the flashing... for all this i used BMM v3.4 and my Razr model is XT910 LATAM... anyways, im just hoping for someone out there to illuminate me and help me understand how exactly is an individual supposed to flash a rom to an XT910?? thanks in advanced!
since you upgraded to JB, you cannot flash ics roms due to raised level of security
you can flash latam jb based roms (see artur's) and any kexec based rom
maybe you can also flash eu jb roms, but I'm not sure. You can try
To do that enter recovery (BMM, safestrap cannot flash kernels), make a backup of your kernel and CID, erase CID, Wipe all, flash eu jb kernel, flash rom, reboot
if you did remain on ICS you could flash anything you Want, but it's too late

so, if i got this right, i can flash a rom from any region as long as i first flash a jb kernel of the rom's region (eg. flash an .FR jb kernel to use an .FR based rom)? if so, that pretty much leaves me wondering where i can get these kernels, and with the task to backup my stock kernel and cid... thans for ur response!
all eu jb kernels are the same and it is possible that latam and eu to be compatible

With jb eu kernel you can flash eu jb based roms, of course, not any rom
also you can flash any kexec rom, it does not matter Which kernel you have
try to flash eu jb kernel and if succeeded flash one of roms from dev section based on this kernel
if you cannot, install artur's rom based on latam jb rom

ah ok, im pretty much clear now.. sorry for asking much, ive never had this regional restrictions on any other phone ive had.. ill go ahead and search for one of these eu kernels and see how it all goes with flashing! once again, i first flash the kernel and right after i flash the rom, right? without rebooting recovery? and also, if im using bmm, do i flash the kernel like a regular zip or using the flash kernel menu that everyone always says not to use?
first, make a backup of your kernel, then flash eu kernel, then wipe all, flash rom and reboot
make a backup of CID then erase it (not sure that is necessary for your region, but just in case)
kernels should be flashed using command flash firmware. Make sure that there is NO SPACE into the path of desired kernel like:
firmware/EU_JBKernel/boot.img any punctuation is accepted, but no space!
kexec should be flashed as regular zip
all of this is valid using BMM
for other info check this:

Well, that thread contains kernels for eu, latam and verizon.
For DSEA you need first. Flash eu kernel and rom, order is not important.
There are a few roms based on latam, see them
For verizon check this:
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/forum/156-droid-razr-roms/
For them you need a gsm patch, read threads for it
Gsm patch must be flashed after the rom
I am using Safestrap 3.11 and have my stock/primary ROM and using ROM slot 1 for different daily driver. My stock ROM is one that I used to get out of a brick situation so isnt important to me anymore, but the ROM in slot 1 is working very well. I would like to make Slot 1 my stock ROM or primary ROM and burn current stock/primary. Is it possible? and what is the best practice way to do it using backups etc
Thanks
Whay you want to do isn't possible.
You can flash a custom ROM on the stock slot using SS 3.5.* - 3.6 or BMM.
However, you cannot flash the stock ROM to any rom-slot.
Stock ROM will only work on Stock Slot.

So to change the stock ROM I would need to delete SS after copying slot 1 rom to PC [eg] install that new rom as new stock and
then reinstall SS to have the slots free again, does that make sense, or have I made it too complicated. I just dont need the primary ROM anymore

locked bootloader
I think I have answered my own query, in that because the Razr has a locked bootloader I have to use SS or similar to install other ROMs. Can I fool it by using RSD lite to install a different stock/primary ROM and then go from there with SS? Or is it a case of going back to base non rooted sbf and then rooting again etc?

You cannot flash a non-Motorola ROM using RSDLite.
However if you want to flash a custom ROM to stock slot, there's no need to make it that complicated.
You can simply do it as you would flash a custom ROM to any other slot.
Though if anything goes wrong you will need RSDLite to recover and flash back the stock.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this Moto Razr XT910, a korean version one. I have a few questions to ask:
-Is this the device that has an official support by CM? the code named umts_spyder builds? I'm just confused by the other variants ://
-Since this is a korean version with AT&T on it, can I change this to a sim-free (international version)? If so, can you link me some useful guides out there? I've searched for a couple of hours but I never found a good guide for noobies containing on how-to flashing and unlocking bt
I'm an experienced user on flashing this on that and compiling this and that but hope you could understand my situation as if this is a new phone to me Thanks alot! Just an urgent matter.
XT910 is the umts_spyder and it is officially supported by CM.
As for the sim-lock, I'm not certain that xt910 are carrier locked but if they are, it ain't very common hence no unlocking guide.
While the flashing in short goes like this.
1.) Root
2.) Download a recovery (Safestrap or BMM).
3.) Install recovery.
4.) Boot into recovery.
5.) Create a ROM-slot.
6.) Wipe all
7.) Flash ROM zip.
8.) Flash additional zip if any.
9.) Reboot.
Not very detailed but get the idea.

Thank you so much! The only stuff that I'm worrying about is the incompatibilities between flashing an international version ROM to a region specified device which is a Korean version. After some deep searches, thank goodness I found this post on a thread being discussed about converting a region specified device into an international one. Anyway here it is:
Semseddin said:
I can't provide you in details since there're are guides for it but briefly you'd have to delete cid with fastboot or bmm but make a backup of it before deletion. You can flash all XT910 firmwares with fastboot just don't forget to delete the cdt.bin line from the RSD LITE XML files that you'd flash. This way cdt.bin partition on your device will not be upgraded to 5 or 7 and stay version 4 which is ICS.
Better create a nandroid backup of your stock rom with bmm recovery and provide necessary files from your device to find stock fastboot of XT910S ICS to firmware-team ?

Do you know what is RSD lite XML file and cdt.bin? is these two included on the ROM you'll flash? Anyway, once I've upgraded to ICS, can I freely flash any JB to KK based ROMs? Sorry for bothering with all of my dumbness
EDIT
Nevermind, I just knew RSD lite

One more question, I've been through some xda and google searches and I hope this statement I've found is TRUE :fingers-crossed:
-Since my device is a Korean Version with a specified carrier on it, flashing ICS update on this device will activate its network for a global use which is considered now for international use... is that true? Does it mean that I don't have to delete some lines inside the xml file anymore? :fingers-crossed: and just root it, install BMM or SS recovery and flash CM11 on it? Do I really have to delete CID partition before flashing JB and KK based ROMs? Please needing your help
EDIT:
-Someone said that you can flash any region based firmware to your device? is it true?
-My device is actually an XT910S, do I only have to flash XT910S based ROMs? or any of them (XT910 and XT910K)?
-Can I flash CM11 with stock 2.3.5? or is it really necessary to update to ICS in order to flash JB and KK based ROMs?
Pleaseee Im begging you

The international usage after ICS update is for the cdma version XT912 so it doesn't apply to you. As I said earlier, A carrier locked XT910 isn't very common.
As for the region specific ROMS, The custom ROMs are not region specific but if you want to flash stock MOTO roms then you need to consider the region.
However, many Asian users can flash European JB builds without deleting their cid.
As far as I know, you do need to upgrade in order to flash custom ROM.
But you can surely try to root it before upgrading and see if you can install SS or BMM.

Thank you for the response. So it means, I will update the device via OTA update first to get the stock JB 4.1.2 then after that, I can now be able to flash custom ROMs whatever I want?
Yes that should do it.
Do check the root thread for supported builds before updating though.

Assuming you are in JB, your thoughts are right. After installing Safestrap, create/activate a new Slot, Slot 1 for example, and play there flashing thr Roms.
