I'm curious if anyone knows how to, or has had success using Towelroot on 4.4.4 I've heard you can changing parameters of some sort, but the article was very vague.

At this time there is not a way to root 4.4.4 NH7 WITHOUT tripping KNOX !!! Towel Root, CF-Autoroot, and Kingo will all trip KNOX !!!
If there is a way to get the NC5 kernel to work on 4.4.4 then yes. But I have flashed NC5 kernel and after the Samsung screen it goes blank. Maybe someone could modify the NC5 kernel to at least boot then we could use towelroot. Then flash back to NH7.

Yes, a guy posted it in the middle of a Sprint note 3 thread about a week or two after 4.4.4 came out. Sorry just can't remember where, I was looking for it yesterday and gave up I will try again.

Jon I think I found something, on this site http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2014/09/To...4-S5-and-Note3-Android-4.4.2-NF-or-Later.html . The DL's are on the bottom of the site for Sprint. Check it out !!! It appears you can root to 4.4.4 NH7 by swopping kernels without tripping KNOX !!!
I just gave it a shot, I get stuck at boot. I get the startup sound, but the screen is black. The LED is pulsing blue, but nothing happens.
Currently I am reflashing NH7 and will try it again.

Nope, no matter how I do it, I just get the black screen. I guess I am tripping Knox, oh well.

Well if you don't want to trip KNOX, you have to go back to NC5 and use Towel Root. So, here is how to do it.
First, you have to odin flash 4.4.2 NC5. Go to my thread all the info is there http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/samsung-note-3-rom-flashin-basics-t2896440
Now let help you out with the bumpy parts, chances are that when the device tries to boot up the first time after you flash back to NC5 it will bootloop. DON'T panic it's happened to me lots of times !!! Just pull the battery and wait a couple of minutes then reinsert. Now hold the power button, and volume up button and the menu button at the same time this will boot you into the stock recovery. Now using the volume up and down button navigate to factory reset and push the power button. This will factory reset the device and it should boot with your new NC5 4.4.2 OS. Now got back to my thread and follow the rooting part. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DATA i.e. PICS AND MUSIC TO YOUR PC FIRST !!!

ive flashed stock rom and stock recovery and still have the custom unlocked padlock.. any ideas? i need to go back to verizon since i messed up my sim and 4g is broken.
third time flashing recovery and stock rom and the padlock is finally gone
I have the same issue. I had jellybean. I think it was 4.2.2, rooted it and then they pushed the OTA kitkat 4.4.2. I lost my root and I'd really like to get rid of that padlock screen now. Problem is people keep saying I can use triangle away to reset the binary counter and that will get rid of it. Can't do that without it being rooted though. Some say just re flash with the stock firmware. I'd do it if I could find the file but some say that doesn't work anyway. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Ive read somewhere on here that it may be something on you external sd card , possibly old " hack , root " files from a previous phone?
Also if busy box was ever installed that would need to be removed. There's probably something else I'm forgetting. But if your phone just has that custom screen.... Verizon doesn't really care i can tell you from personal experience.

Thanks for the reply. I read those responses but mine didn't have the padlock out of the box. I just figured maybe someone found a way to get rid of it by now after the KitKat OTA removed their root. Perhaps re flashing the stock rom, which I can't find, might do it. And I did look around with no luck.
Eh. No biggie. It's not affecting the performance of the phone. I'm just being anal. I guess I can live with it. Thanks again.

Recently flashed the RLS12 Safestrap rom for my GS4, Verizon on MK2. The flashing and install seemed to go smoothly, wiped etc with no problems. Ran through the aroma installer, again, no issues. Flashed the MK2 verizon modules and rebooted. The bios boot sequence came up (pretty sweet BTW) and all seems fine. However, it stops at "Beginning Android Boot sequence" and won't go any further. I've heard rumors of this first boot taking upwards of 10 minutes, but I've tried this 3 times now and let it sit for as long as 35 minutes without any results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

Im having the same issue and I even flashed MJ7 and tried to flash it too. I don't even get to the boot screen I have a black screen but a flawless install up to the reboot. I have flashed plenty of hyperdrive with the correct modules I even tried different versions of hyperdrive. The OP stated compatibility with everything up too MJ7 that's why I went back to MJ7 still no joy when I as originally on MK2.

I had that problem and I got fixed by downloading the right file.
You need to download the RLS12 Safestrap Rom not the regular RLS12.
The regular one is for MDK TWRP recovery rom so it doesn't boot.

You delete ROM slots from within SafeStrap. Just activate your stock slot, then go over to whatever slots you have and I usually formatted and then deleted them. Fairly simple. Then try creating a new ROM slot and reflash the ROM and modules.

UPDATE: Hey buddy - I got it fixed yesterday. It's amazing how much you learn by making mistakes. My first mistake was, as mentioned in an earlier post, I got trigger happy and flashed to my stock rom slot instead of setting up a custom slot (stupid me). Looking back, I can't believe I did that. My second mistake was trying to reflash the incorrect stock rom file using Odin. I finally got the correct one from SamMobile.
Anyone having trouble on galaxy phones should check out rootjunky's youtube posts. He's great!! You have to be careful though because he jumps around on different builds. My only question now is whether or not Hyperdrive is compatible with the MK2. Everything I see is for the MDK and others. Is the build number critical or is it more critical to have the compatible recovery or both? I thought I would ask before I try flashing this rom again. Also, any suggestions on compatible MK2 roms would be great. I'm having trouble finding any.
Thanks,
BC

It's really the most complete and helpful site I think for our phones.
Just remember that since you're on MK2 4.3 that whatever SafeStrap rom you flash must also be based off 4.3 as well, and you will also have to flash MK2 modules zip file as well.
And I'd also like to say for the record since were here.... You're most likely going to want to hold off on the KitKat update from Verizon until there are proven and reliable root methods and SafeStrap is available. .. that is if you want to keep flashing ROMs.
Just my two cents lol

I upgraded my note to 4.4.2 with freeza rom. I have my phone flashed to a different service provider (other then sprint) I found out that 4.4.2 is not compatible with the flash. Anytime my device is flashed then my phone has no service. It has a red x on the service bars. If I can downgrade my phone then I will regain service and be able to use my device. If I can't downgrade then you can say I just have a paper weight.

From what I have read, it is possible (not confirmed), you need to flash the engineered bootloader, then you can downgrade to na4 and then back to mj4...i have not seen anyone try it yet, you might be the first to try... I can't seem to find them from my phone, if you do a search in the threads, look for na4 tar and mj4 tar, if you can successfully get back to na4, you will need to flash mj4 twice, after the second flash, go straight into stock recovery and do a wipe and then it will start back up... Like I said, best of luck man. And read the forums, you don't want to risk bricking.

Does this work if i was on MJ4 stock before the update?

I use 3.09 Odin and seems to work best. If you are flashing bootloader put the file in bl, if you are flashing the mj4 or na4 put it in the ap slot. Search for Odin and you will find lots of info.

I haven't been able to attempt this yet as i still have a few questions. All i need to know is what slot the modem goes in in Odin. Some thing are saying that Odin is not the best to flash the modem. Is this information true and the file that was provided: would it be compatible with 4.4.2 stock that came from MJ4

Someone said Mobile Odin is not recommended for flashing modems. You should be using PC Odin to attempt this.
And...why do you need to know into what slot a modem goes?
I believe that the files that are part of this process are bootloaders, tar roms and pit files (if you're going from 4.3 to 4.4.2). Bootloader is contained in the complete rom builds NAB, NA4 and MJ4. No modem. The bootloader, if using, goes on bootloader slot. Rom goes in PDA slot.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.

I asked because i felt that the modem was the problem from all that i have done and been thru wit this phone. Anyway...
I inserted the modem from the link provided on this thread. http://goo.gl/W0f3Za. (The post on this thread that provided the link to the MJ4 modem was no longer on their server/cloud.
I inserted the file in the phone slot and pressed start. Odin got stuck at first attempt. While the phone was stuck i closed Odin and held down the DL mode keys and reentered DL mode. I tried Odin again and it went thru. It reset and worked. I have call with text (No MMS or Data). Old texts that came when i was without service which was a week came back as well.
I encountered what seemed to be a hard brick thru out this process and with flashing CF Root thru Odin. My phone would show the recovery message and show the samsung logo and then it would boot loop and do that over and over. I wasn't able to boot into DL mode and i couldn't get it to stop automatically rebooting and do the same thing over again. I had to take the battery out. After leaving the battery out for 2 minutes the phone stopped auto booting and i was able to get the phone into DL mode.
Once i got into DL mode CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423 with the Odin file provided worked. The CF Root for this phone does not work for this phone for some reason.

My phone came on 4.3. But I'm already on 4.4.2. My problem was that updating to the Kit Kat update on a Sprint MVNO network would knock out service. And i have done a lot to try and fix this phone for the last week and this is the only thing that worked to get the service back. Two store i took the phone to couldn't get it to work. My question now is: Would this be the best modem for me to be on?

I think that you need to keep your eye out for Josh Beach and K3. I've heard that there's a universal install procedure that handles MVNOs.

Hi, I have hard bricked my sprint Note 3 . It will not boot into recovery or download mode. I have rooted and flashed many roms to many phones in the past. Guess I missed a step somewhere. I have found a couple solutions to this, but does anyone here have a confirmed fix??? Or maybe a link to a thread on this already thanks a bunch, any help is appreciated! :good:

Update: i have found a "unbrick" image for the sm-n900p. currently downloading and writing to microsd card. hopefully this is what i need. iv tried googling a fix for this, the image im downloading is sorta out of date ( posted February of this year). maybe someone here has a up to date unbrick image. I was on the latest stock rom and firmware as of October 28th 2014. The phone does charge while off. But only boots to sprint yellow logo screen.

You have hope because you are not hard bricked. Your soft bricked. If you were hard bricked the phone wouldn't turn on at all as if there was no battery in it. Can you get to a recovery or download mode?

So the flash was successful, but the phone still will not boot past the sprint logo screen. I gave it a good 10 minutes to boot up.

So now take the over the air update so it will get your bootloader, modem, and kernel to 4.4.4 then you can install a custom recovery and flash any 4.4+ rom.

I was going to root my wife's s4 (unlimited data) to have tethering due to the internet situation at my house ( 1mb download) but don't see a hack for the unlimited data plan phones.
Are there any out there?
Thanks
James
Yes. Root the phone and put a custom ROM. It does not matter what the plan is.
Ok so the custom Roms have the WiFi tether built in then?
Thanks

Ok cool. So does safe strap work with 5.0.1 or is there something else now?
And what Roms are good to look at?
Thanks
No there is only flashfire.
The best rom I've used is stang rom but any lollipop rom will work.

Or you can flash Muniz_ri's stock rooted roms (OC1 or OF1) then flash the tether hack in the same thread. If it's for your wife and she doesn't want crazy features that custom roms have, that may be the way to go.
This is the most updated stock firmware, only difference is it's rooted, and there are detailed instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545of1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3182544

Make sure when you flash those that you set the screen off timer to 10 mins, it can't hurt

Still trying to figure out what happened...
I followed directions to a t and still bricked it.
I got it to boot up after doing Odin tar. I'm going to try again with the stock ROM. Lol yea I'm a dare devil. I've got a back up if needed.

Ya just try again. I hear that Flashfire may have timeout issues, so I always set my screen timeout to 10 minutes and I push the volume buttons every minute or so; don't know if it helps but it doesn't hurt
