[Q] damaged usb port? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I wanted to give my z2 a quick charge on the way to the hospital today and i noticed after about 20 mins i noticed that the charging light wasn't on any more, it was to start with.
I ran it down to 0% it shut down and doesn't seem to charge via the usb port, the red light will come on for 5 mins or so but then nothing. when i tap the power button the screen shows me one bar on the battery but not charging icon.
I have a magnetic charger and so far do get the charging icon and a constant red led. It always takes a long time to charge via the magnetic port so I will leave it for a while but was wondering if this had happened to anyone else.
The phone wasn't moved or banged around in the car, it was fixed when it was charging otherwise I would say it was damaged.
The phone is 5 months old and has always been well taken care of.... really hoping i don't have a brick!

When it powers off it goes into emergancy power mode for a while
Leave it plugged in for about 40 mins, if it doesnt give any response at all then wait sometime ive read some peoples devices took a couple hours to wait
If it doesnt give any life then you will have to contact sony mobile repair centre

Thanks! I got it to 68% using the magnetic charger going to clean the USB port and give it another go

[Q] Atrix Not Powering Up

I let my battery die off this morning til I got home. I plugged it into the wall and tried to boot up. I got the green light to flash but then nothing. I pulled the battery out and even left it charging for a few hours. Still, the phone does not power up. The green light turns on for a bit and then off. I haven't done any mods to the phone...
Any idea what is going on? Or perhaps how I can fix this? Any help would be great.
Weird. I had it plugged in my Energizer Ps3 controller stand (it has two usb outputs) which was giving me the issue before. I finally plugged it in to the wall and it boot up fine. I guess the PS3 stand may be faulty...

Use the charger that came with your phone.
If you do a google search, you will see that the droid x and droid 2 also have this same issue.
next time it happens, pull the batter and SD card. wait a minute or two, put in the sdcard and battery, then plug in the WALL charger. It will power on the phone and boot it up.
has happend to me twice - so now i just never turn off my phone rebooting it is also touch n go to be honest... the phone is sooo sensitive!
The phone's not sensitive...it requires an 800mA charger (0.8A). If you connect it to something less it doesn't have enough power to charge the device. If you let it sit long enough it *WILL* charge it...but it'll probably take a day to have enough juice to start up. If you let the battery drain completely it usually won't turn on until there's like 15% or more battery charged. Charging 15% battery on a 400mA charger (which could very well be the level your PS3 charging stand outputs) would probably take like 7 hours.
Thanks for the info, everyone!
I'm sorry for the bump, but this has happened to my mother's Atrix that I gave her just 2 days ago.
She found it turned off, wouldn't power. I figured it wasn't charged so I'm trying to charge it on the wall adapter that it came with but no green light. I've put it on my laptop and the green light appears.
It's not turning on though...can someone reassure me that if the light turns on, it WILL power eventually?
Same problem here

hello man, i have the same problem you have, did you find out something useful???

phone broke ? need help

Hi
I think my phone is a little broke,
It ran out battery last night so i put it on charge this morning.
was on charge by wall for 10 min to get some battery then swapped over to car when i was driving it turned off now when i try and charge it at work via a usb wire and cplug converter i just get the battery logo with the spining circle for a few seconds it flashes then goes off does this about 6 times then the screen just goes off and will not do anything
anyone know any fixes or has it gotta go to samsung ?
Thanks
Have you tried taking out the battery?
Please let us know if it starts working again.
tried that, its like its not getting the power it needs for thats first few seconds as the buttons at the bottom flash on then off again
With the phone OFF. Leave it charging for four hours using the supplied mains charger.
With the phone OFF do you see a picture of the battery showing how much charge you have when you plug the phone into the mains charger? How much charge does it show?
it comes up with the b attery with a circle logo init then turns off then comes back to that over and over again,
i dont have the proper charger on me just the usb wire and a plug to usb
Think getting somewhere, tried a mates battery that works fine, mates charger wont charge on my phone but will my battery in his, so i guess my micro usb port is broke :'(

[Q] Battery problem Venue

Hi to all
Hope that somebody will be able to help me. The battery on my Venue was completely drained last night during a phone call and the phone shut down. I connected the charger, waited for 30 minutes and tried switching it on, but all I got was the info on the screen is a pic of battery with 0% in it. I tried charging it overnight, connecting it to a computer, but nothing happened, each time I try to switch it on, I get that info (battery 0%).
The battery was ok, I was using it for two whole days before it drained so much that it shut down. I have no custom ROM installed, everything is completely from the factory. I tried taking the battery out, SIM card out, SD card out, no luck. Never had my battery completely drained before, so I can't say if this would happen before. Battery worked perfectly until now.
Found an info that it might be due to the battery protection circuit...? Unfortunately, can not take it/send it to Dell as I bought it in US, and I'm in Europe now. Any idea of what I could do? I would really appreciate it...
Thanx!
Ok, here I am, not to jinx it, but I think I resolved it. I tried switching on the phone again, but with no success. Then I tried entering the setup menu (or whatever it's called) by pressing 'volume down' key and on/off switch, in which I succeeded and saw the setup screen. I DID NOT TOUCH OR CHANGED ANYTHING, just left it like that, connected to the wall outlet charger for a few minutes. After the screen shut down on itself, I took out the battery (after unplugging it from the wall outlet) and put it back after a couple of minutes. Then I plugged the phone in the USB slot of my computer and left it like that for 15 minutes. I tried switching it on again and it worked - the battery was on 3% and the status was 'charging'. Now it's on 51% and 'charging'.
I hope that is the end of the problem, I will never let the battery drain out completely again. Just to be on the safe side, I ordered another battery from dell.com.
Hope this helps someone.
hi you, my V had that problem too, i shutdown phone, connect the adapter, icon battery show on the screen and wait 15 minutes then hold on power button, everything will be ok
i also had a problem charging with the wall adapter when i switched to custom rom (cm7) for 2 days but after 2 days it started charging from the wall adapter..
Thanks a lot people here
This helped me a lot
My dell was 0% when it switiched off automatically
I connected to wall charger in the night
Till morning it was 0%
I read above
But all I did was connected it to USB slot in PC
and left for 10 mins
Then started it
And it went on
No such problem has arised for me till now.
Actually im using samsung galaxy y's wall charger! As i had that in my room, and both uses same charger, i didnt change it and kept dell charger in the box only!
Though using data cable of dell for pc
Wall charger takes 2hrs max to charge the venue fully.

Magnetic charger, tried plugging in, battery drained, now flashes red when charging.

Hi, I've just got a new magnetic charger and after trying to plug my phone in the battery drained from 40% to what i can imagine is now 0%. When trying to charge the phone the notification light was flashing red, but now after leaving it plugged into my laptop for 10 to 20 minutes it is a solid red light. If i plug it back into a wall socket it starts flashing again.
When first trying to plug the magnetic charger in, I may of had it upside down, but as there were no instructions saying that there was a wrong way round, I can't imagine how it was this that might of caused it.
Any ideas on what i should do?
EDIT - After 10 minutes of it being plugged into the wall it is now a solid red light also.
leave it plugged into a wall
this can take upto +45 mins to have enough power to even respond
It finally rebooted itself, but now the battery life is awful, barely lasts a day, in comparison to the 2 days it used to get, is it possible that it's damaged the battery?

Probably, repetitive engaugement and disengagement of the battery can cause faster wear
I'll just send it back to Amazon and get a refund, I think it's done a bit more damage than I can tell

I got just exactly the same problem @hellfire191......i have leave it OFF and charge it for almost 1 days but it only reach 19%..i leave it for 2nd and it up only to 41%...i open it for the first time and it start normally, so i start to look up what cause the problem..but everything look fine..then i realized that my batteries is draining so fast like 1 minute = 1% while i'm still on charging..so i quit play around with my phone and leave charged again..but this time, i wait until 40% and i tried to flash firmwire back to stock...i managed to flash it..but when the phone is started to load the apps the batteries died..but it continue loading the apps after i got some batteries charge up..now i'm at stock LP 23.4.A.0.546..i thought it will solved the problem..but it still the same..now i'm stuck almost 1 month with no phone....luckily i manage to borrow/share a phone with my son
Is anyone got any ideas what wrong with my phone and what should i do..pls help me

It probably happens when u attach the magnetic cable wrong way i.e. negative to positive and positive to negative.

but as there were no instructions saying that there was a wrong way round..
You shouldn't be able to plug the magnetic charger in the wrong way as there are different spacings across the connectors.. unless you forced it? You don't have to push them in, they just snap into place when hover the connector over the port, no pushing needed at all.
As for the damage maybe draining your phone to 1-2% and charge to full, repeat a again, might return the battery to original state. That or you've damaged one of the capacitors used for the battery, or the battery itself is now damaged. Best of luck.

Thank for the information..when I'm buying that magnetic charger I didn't ask any instruction on how to use it..after what was happen, the seller just do a poker face and refuse to take any responsible on what happen to my phone..is my mistake also..now I think I will take the phone to repair it ..let the "expert" do the job..:silly:

Won't turn on

I recently picked up this galaxy s6 edge from a friend that upgraded to a new phone. It won't turn on, neither to android recovery, nor to download mode nor the android. I charged it via wireless charging overnight and i tried for around an hour with a usb cable. What do i do?
same issue i am facing, i tried original charger, wireless charger and fast chargers from many different brands. but all failed. The device only gets warm/hot while charging and nothing happens. neither download mode nor recovery mode works. I am kind pf stuck without any solution, my device was used very rarely and its like an brand new device. Doesn't know what to do, if you find any solution then please let me know too. thanks in advance
Same problem. If I press power button very long, blue light comes on. Then it's stuck and stays like this until battery is flat. Battery charging is not possible: device heats up (tried USB and Qi), but battery doesn't take any charge.
So I opened the S6 and checked the battery directly. I can charge it directly with a lab power supply and when I plug it in and press power button, the blue notification light comes on again until battery is empty again. I can also see that only ICs get hot, but not the battery when plugging in USB.
So, it's definitely some hardware fault. I suspect power IC that is not able to power up the screen. But I don't know. I will investigate further but it looks difficult. However, I have seen many YouTube videos with same symptoms, but problem was always different than mine :/
Hi guys,
This thread is 2 months old, any of you managed to fix the problem?
I am having very similar problem. My phone was on a shelf for about a year and a half. Before now it was working perfectly. Now I can't charge it via USB or power adapter. When trying to power it up or get into download or recovery mode, nothing happens. Computer does not see it. Tried different cables, USB ports, power adapters..nothing.
The only thing that is happening to the phone is the battery logo appears when trying to charge it, though the green bar does not go over battery, only the empty grey battery with lightning icon in the middle. Also the screen does not go dark after a few seconds as it should and the red/blue LED does not turn on.
Is this the signal from the phone, that the battery is to deeply dischareged and cannot be charged again? I am googling all over the web and can't find anybody talking about what phone does in case of to low voltage on battery.
PS back does not seem to be bloated, USB port was working perfectly last time used
Please try to help, you are my last stop before opening the phone and start probing the poop out of motherboard to see what gave.
EDIT: something interesting happened just about an hour after my post. The battery suddenly started showing % of charge and the green bar started running, computer recognized the phone.. as everything should be.
My FIX: leave the phone pluged in and charging for about 3days and it will start working again.
My semi professional explenation of fix and problem: the phone has a ''backup or reserve'' battery. It is actually main battery but the last I think I read somewhere it is 20% of capacity, is reserved for phone exclusively for the clock and all other electronics that need power when switched off. Now these 20% probably were discharged due to laying around for almost 2 years.
It took me 3 days of charging to fill up these ''20%'' I guess. Probably because Lithium batteries are charged VERY slow at very start and end. This is safty procedure for ALL Li batteries.
If any expert can confirm my conclusion please do so, to help other people.
To answer partialy to my question: The phone tells you battery is ''deep'' discharged when you only see the charge icon without the green bar.
In the mean time I was writing this edit I came up to 4% battery and turned it on!
