uploading photos to websites - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using an iropro tablet on android 4.4.2. When I click on "add photos" on a website I am only given a few mostly irelevant options in the pop up that is displayed. On my phone for example the option to open the gallery or file manager app is given. Can I change the options given on the tablet so that I am given the gallery or file explorer options?

Is there a way to prevent

Is there a way to prevent certain pictures and videos from appearing in the gallery?
Also can I lock apps to prevent their use.
On my sisters phone the video player says that avatar is locked.
Most of the apps in the market to hide stuff do little more than hide the file by adding a dot to the beginning of the filename and/or changing the file extension to txt. This will hide it from the gallery and video player, but it still will be visible to any good file manager.
The locked thing on Avatar might be due to DRM.

like what t313 said...just add a dot/period (.) in front of the file/folder name. i found that windows doesnt allow me to add a dot ,so i use my file manager(Astro PRO) on my phone to manually rename.
basically your phones gallery will ignore anything with a dot in front of the name. on my phone, i have a folder called .hide. thats where i put files that i want hidden

Just remember that brian_v3ntura said to use a file manager to add the dot, and so by extension this "hidden" folder will not show up in the gallery (or anything that respects hidden files and folders) but will still show up in most decent file mangers.
If you girlfreind/wife/parents/mountain goat happen to snoop around using the file manager they might find that folder you named ".HardCoreDonkeyPorn" so even though security through obscurity almost never works out, it might still help a little to name it something like ".sbin" instead.
One of the reasons to avoid the market programs is because there "hidden" folders stand out a bit when they are named something like ".HiddenFolder" or ".MyVault"
Just something to keep in mind. The long and short of it is, if you don't want CSI to finds it, don't put it on the phone at all.

actually astrology file manager ad supported version and the PRO version has a setting to hide hidden files so it doesn't show up in the file manager until u reenable in settings. or just create a zip file using astro then hide

I did not know this because I don't use it. Does it just create the dot files we mentioned, or does it actually do something special like encrypt it? If it just becomes a dot file then it will still be visible to another file manager, like say root explorer.
Dot files are a standard way to create "hidden" files in Unix and Linux and it goes back over 40 years. The issue is that it fully relies on programs to respect the setting. Even the ls command will show hidden files if you just add the -a switch.
Ty for the tips. One of the things that I wanted hide from the gallery was some apps had their pics show up in the gallery which to me is annoying plus some random album art too. Plus not having to worry about showing pics in gallery to family with some random katy perry pics and gifs is good too.

Then for these casual cases to hide images, the dot hidden will work just fine for you. I do this to hide all my eBook covers from the gallery. For album art, I just embed it in the ID3 tags. I think it is both cleaner and it makes sure the metadata (in this case album art) travels with the file itself, which is exactly what the ID3 tag is for.
The ".nomedia" file in the directory will keep the media scanner from finding anything. That works to keep random junk out of the gallery - but isn't a "hidden" solution.

[Q] Standard gallery options

Hey guys,
I'm currently using the standard gallery on my Samsung Galaxy S II I9100.
I find it anoying that the gallery shows all folders with pictures in it, for example application folders with button images in them.
I want to remove/hide those from my gallery but I can't find a way to do this.
Is there a way to do this or should I start using a different non-standard gallery app?
And in the last case, is there a way to remove or deactivate the standard gallery?
I hope one of you has an answer to this
Thanks in advance,
DAZL
Create a file with e.g. es file explorer with the name .nomedia
Put it in the map you want to exclude from gallery.

Thanks for the fast reply.
I saw this option somewhere but with the warning that other programs would also see the folder as a folder with no media in it, effectively making the folder unaccessable by for example the application it belongs to.
Is this information true or not?

Viewing photos

Is it possible to view the photos as slide show, I don't seem to find such function in the tablet Gallery or File Manager and Mobo Player.

The tablet's stock Gallery has a slideshow function. Open Gallery, select a set of photos, then locate in the right-hand section of the upper menu and touch the icon that looks like a square with a right-pointing triangle; the slideshow will begin. You can adjust the slideshow's settings by touching the right-most icon in the upper menu. Good luck.

Thanks, got that but I want a slide show of pictures stored in a sd card and I don't want to transfer the file to the tablet so I am now viewing therm with file manager or Astro and they don't seem to have slide show capability. Any apps can do it?

I don't understand why Gallery is not detecting and listing the media files stored on your external SD card. I have photos and videos stored on an external SD card and Gallery detects and lists them without problem. Check for a file named ".nomedia" in the folders where you have the photos stored. If ".nomedia" exists, delete it.

The only other app I use to view photos is the ES Image Browser that is included with ES File Explorer. ES Image Browser is accessed by selecting a photo from within ES File Explorer. ES Image Browers has a slideshow function.

If they're running unrooted Honeycomb the stock apps need files transferred from the SD card and can;t access them directly. I'm told ICS fixes this. Patiently awaiting it here in the UK

I can access the pictures from File Manager without transfering them but no slide show
Install QuickPic from the Play Store and start using it instead of Gallery. It can access the external SD perfectly, HC or ICS. And it's slideshow function works on either and is very configurable.
Worked for me, at least.

Changing (stubborn) Default App Preferences

I have both the PDF to Go app (part of Documents to Go) and Adobe Acrobat. I initially selected the "always open with" option for .pdf files to use PDF to Go. Now I want to switch to Acrobat. I tried Settings>App>Documents to Go>Clear defaults and that did not work. There is also a "Clear data" option but I'm unsure what that does (sounds a bit riskier). Also, a bit odd, but there is no specific app listing for PDF to Go. Either way when opening a .pdf file through ES File Explorer the default remains PDF to Go. However, when using another file browser, say Astro File Explorer, I can get the default app to be Acrobat Reader. It appears that the app default is file browser app based not global system based. Any help/workaround/solution would be appreciated. Cheers.

Not sure if it is what you meant but clearing the file settings directly in ES FE was the answer. Settings>File Settings>Clear defaults worked. This allowed me to reset choice of pdf reader and the pdf default behavior.
Every time I set a default for anything when I go to do that operation again later it asks me every time and I hit always.. Is there a fix for this?

I've seen this with other apps like navigation... no matter how many times I set the app default, it still prompts. I think the best workaround is to just disable the app from the phone if you really only need to use the one app.

Android 5.0.1 "Open with" doesn't detect specific programs

The problem is, my phone huawei p80 lite with android 5.0.1 can't detect few video programs, when Im using "open with" option from file managers.
Im not allowed to post links, but they're both called "Video looper"
As for file manager, Im using ""ES File Explorer" right now, I also tried others but none of them detects these 2 programs upon using "open with" and as a video with file managers.
I even tried to open it as "other" where it shows you a list of basically every app like google maps, contacts, sms and other stuff that isn't related to the video files and even there, I can't find these 2 programs.
Is there any other way I can assign one of these 2 programs as default video players or make them appear in the list, so I don't need to run them and search videos through them, but I could just browse and open videos through file managers ?
