I'm trying to convert my at&t one m7 (running sense 6, android 4.4.2) to a google play edition. I've got S-off (via sunshine), root with supersu installed as a system app. (verified with root checker). Bootloader is unlocked (I have tampered message) and CWM touch installed. I've flashed Elemental X which says it disables HTC's write protection to system. I find myself unable to flash any rom. It can't mount system. I can't even fully wipe/factory reset with cwm since I don't have access. Everything I can find tells me that flashing an insecure kernel will give me access but I have no luck after flashing elemental x (also tried bulletproof). Any help would be appreciated.

You could try the latest TWRP. If you are going the GPe route have you changed your CID & MID? Have you looked at this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781

I've made a terrible mistake.
Unlocked the bootloader successfully then tried flashing superuser, then wiped all, then tried installing CM11
Apparently I never got root successfully and now the device has no ROM at all.
It won't write CM11 and I can't throw a stock rooter tmobile rom in the TWRP directory to try that.
"Error executing binary in zip"
did I just wreck the device?

You might try to run the RUU 5.14.531.11 of course it will wipe all of your data if you didn't save it before your issue. If you are S-ON, you will need to lock your bootloader after you successfully run the RUU you can unlock it again using your same unlock code.

You might try this: HTC Unbricking Project
My HTC one m8 has root access. I was using twrp recovery and stock rom. I wanted to flash a custom rom (tried cyanogen and pan) but twrp never helped me in finding my zip file. Then I tried swapping my recovery from twrp to cwm but that never happened and it got stuck in bootloader mode and then I did factory reset :/. And now everytime I try going into recovery it takes me to the bootloader mode. now I am trying flashing a custom recovery but first turning s_off and I tried firewater but it doesn't work.
What should I do?
It still has root access but s_on and don't know about bootloader on/off and no recovery.

and does your device say unlocked at the top of your bootloader? if not follow this guild http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799796 , but use the twrp for you device carrier only
if you did it via recovery you should still be ok
go to your bootloader download this twrp img here http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m8/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-m8.img on your computer (for gsm) int. att (i'm guessing this is the device carrier you have)
ensure you have fastboot tools(adb tools installed)
put the .img in your folder that contains fastboot
open a cmd in that folder on your computer and make sure you put your phone in fastboot mode via your bootloader.
then type on your computer in cmd fastboot flash recovery (name of twrp you downloaded).img
then type fastboot erase cache
you now have twrp installed to get to it now select recovery from bootloader on your phone.
when installing custom roms in twrp you need to go to advanced wipe(select data, cache, delvik cache, and system then swipe the arrow bar beneath)
then press home and press install the go to the location on the sdcard where you put the rom.zip of the custom rom and select it. instalation will begin after completion reboot(done)
It says unlocked at the top but S On.
Shouldn't I turn s off before flashing recovery?

it won't matter either way.
but just so you know what s-off is
s-off turns security mode off so you can swap out boot splashes and such, if you s-off and super cid you can flash any carrier's firmware,
also allows you to flash a kernel in recovery on older devices(m8 doesn't need s-off to flash kernel)
Can't S-Off unless you can boot. Firewater only works if you can get into the OS and then only for some devices. You should reinstall TWRP and see if you can boot to it then put a rom on an external SD card or use adb to push a rom zip to the internal if you don't have an SD card. Make sure that you fastboot flash the boot.img of whatever rom you are trying due to being S-On. If all that fails, then you will need to find the same or newer RUU from HTC for your carrier to restore the phone to stock and start over.

Hey thank you very much.
It helped and i flashed latest twrp recovery and then flashed viper one m8 1.8.0 rom but the latest version is 2.4.0 and it says to have that your firmware should be 4.4.3 and i have 4.4.2.
Question is can i flash paranoid android coz that gives me 4.4.4 firmware and then flash latest viper one m8 version or i have to go to stock rom and update it and then flash latest version of viper?
Reply please.

It should still work with the firmware you have. It's recommended but not necessary. And flashing PA would certainly not update your firmware. Firmware in this instance is mostly focused on the radio/baseband version and the touch drivers. These are not included in any kind of custom rom for your phone (nor 99% of android custom roms for anything). Much more important if you were originally on 4.2.2 or 4.3 and trying to run the new Viper. The only way to update firmware while S-On is via RUU or OTA. If you were S-Off then you could flash just the firmware package that has the hboot and stock recovery files removed.
Hello good people of XDA.
I have managed to get my HDX stuck in a bootloop by trying to install CM11 for safestrap 4 whilst running safestrap 3.75 and am hoping someone can help me unbrick it
- Was running update-kindle-13.3.2.4_user_324002120.bin rooted with Safestrap-Thor-3.75-os3.2.4-B02 installed
- Attempted to install [ROM] [STABLE] CM-11 for Safestrap v4 2015/07/26 on stock ROM slot from within safestrap. All appeared to install OK
- Upon reboot NO SAFESTRAP and does not go past grey kindle fire logo (no animation)
- Device reboots after 40 seconds
- After much faffing around with drivers I DO have adb access (for 40 seconds until device reboots) and can send adb reboot bootloader to the device to get fastboot. Fastboot commands work and device does not reboot when in fastboot
- Can get to stock recovery if i issue adb reboot recovery or power+vol up
- I (foolishly I now realise) did do a "reset to factory defaults" at the stock recovery
- Unsure if I still have root - dont think so though due to doing factory reset
- Cannot flash a system update because the file is 849mb and the device reboots before the transfer is complete and I get a "protocol error". Also possible lack of root may cause this not to work even if i could copy it across
- Tried to flash signed-thor-twrp-2870.img but got FAILED (remote: flashing not allowed for locked hw) when trying to copy to the SDCard
Looks like I have managed to overwrite the safestrap recovery and for whatever reason the CM11 ROM is not loading.
As I understand it, the general process for unbricking a device is:
- get fastboot access [OK]
- flash a recovery [HELP stuck on this]
- Install a ROM from recovery [will be ok with this once I get a recovery working]
I THINK I need to unlock the bootloader so that I can flash a recovery image but I need root to do that which I think I have lost. Is there a way to check? Is there a way to get root back from adb/fastboot? I have tried KFHDX Toolkit to root the device but get "Kindle Fire HDX 7 (cm_thor-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q 8680464d7c test-keys) is not supported" so it is seems to be recognising it as CM11?
I would really appreciate any guidance anyone could give me
Why didn't you read first and ask first before you did all that?
It says CM11 for Safestrap v4! You did NOT have v4! You can NOT install TWRP on 3.2.4, you Need 3.10 - 3.2.3.2 for this. And I don't think you can unlock the 3.2.4 bootloader either.
This looks very bad for you.
So you should have downgraded to 3.2.3.2, install TWRP, unlock bootloader, and flash CM11. Now it seems you don't have a working system anymore.

Yeah I realise all of this now. Thought safestrap would protect me if there was a problem.
So, anyone know if there is anything I can do to salvage my device? Was hoping I would be OK since I have fastboot.....

Amazon's neutered fastboot environment is useless with a locked bootloader (and next to useless when unlocked). "Factory cables" are totally ineffective on an HDX. You can not unlock your bootloader without downgrading which is impossible without a working system AND functioning recovery. There is an outside chance you might be able to root using HDX toolkit (look for it in the Android Development forum) but not sure what that will accomplish given your device is fully borked. You can not flash a new rom with locked bootloader. You can not flash a 'real' recovery with a locked bootloader or bootloader version vunerable to the signature exploit (3.2.4 is not). Ditto for the bootloader itself. I could go on but the point should be obvious.
I am on MPL24.246.20 (i know its old, but I cannot find a later one for MM for X1650-03).
Anyway, after I unlocked the bootloader, I booted TWRP to back everything up - that worked great.
My next step will be to flash TWRP and then I want to root it.
It seems like all these threads have instructions to root N, but I prefer to stay on MM for now .
Which Root should I flash and what about the kernel? - can I just flash root or does the kernel need to be updated also?
Any help are highly appreciated, thanks.
Update:
I got it to work. I flashed TWRP from Fastboot and then installed SU. ON my third attempt I was successful and discovered that Chainfire's SuperSU from the play-store is not working (it did install but immediately told me to update the code - that process failed). I rebooted, re-installed SU from TWRP and then went back into playstore and download phh's superuser. That seems to work just fine.
SU requests are being satisfied and I'm a happy camper with MM on MotoZ.
Thanks.
Hello,
I am trying to root my htc one m8 (eye) device. But I'm stuck.
I unlocked the bootloader successfully.
Everything went well, I flashed twrp recovery too. Downloaded UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip from
Here is the problem, I went to recovery and installed the SuperSu package, it says it is successfully installed but when i reboot my device and open SupreSu app, it says "Root undetected".
Can anyone please help me out here.
Andriod version - 6.0.1
Htc sense version - 7.0
Try uninstalling SuperSU and prefer Magisk.
