?s For those of you running the froyo roms etc.
Are the issues with these phones getting resolved with the new drivers?
GPS and navigation. Not talking about lock but how well it works.
Lag and freezing issues, battery life issues etc........
do you think 2.2 will actually fix the issues with this phone?
My phone has frozen up and rebooted twice in the last two weeks while running navigation and the battery would lose about fifty percent or more of its charge when this happened (about 1-2 minutes and get really hot). I l wish samsung would get their act together, because all I see is another boondoggle on the horizon.........I want to keep this phone if it will work in stock form........otherwise I will have to force Tmobile to exchange it ..... I have already waited since it was new (July) for it to work right.

Are you running a stock rom or a custom one? And if you got it in july you cannot "force" tmobile to do a thing with it unless you got the insurance but then its not really forcing them. But hey it was worth it to sound tough online...
My experience:
Obsidian V1
GPS Lock - Awesome
Freezing: None
Battery Life: Very Good
Fast?: Yes
I'm sure there are a million threads like this, and if there are i am sorry. But how is CyanogenMod 7 for us on the Vibrant? Because i really want to use this rom, because it is gingerbread, but how STABLE is it and how is battery life?
I dont use GPS nor do i use data so i have no problem going without them. If y'all could let me know what you think of it that would be fantastic.
P.S. I'm using Bionix NextGen and its somewhat decent, i just want an upgrade.
I'm using CM7 with Bo data (data works, but I don't have the data plan), and have no need for GPS.
Battery life is ok, I can make around 20hours on a charge. Haven't noticed anything too bad yet.

I gave up on it, as while most of the major functionality was fine, I got random FC's with some fully stable apps, and I couldn't handle the rainbow screen issues.
From what I've read, it looks like with some tweeking and the proper kernal some users have gotten it very stable. My suggestion, is do some reading, particularly the OP's on the CM7 and Kernal threads.
i can speak to this, have been running the newest and second to newest updates of CM7. very stable and usable -gps would be nice, but it is stable and reliable.
battery life could be better, i am used to having 20-30 hours with 2.2 roms, but i get right 16-18 hours with moderate use.
you can also try simply galaxy
Just switched back from CM7 to trigger3.2. Battery life was horrible.(tried switching kernels)
I'm a bit discouraged by the whole EFS Backup/restore business. Is this ever likely to not be an issue?
Good Morning!!
What ROM out there has flawless GPS? I travel a lot and rely heavily on an accurate GPS. I would also like the ROM to "sip" battery life instead of guzzle it. It's been quite some time since I have been in the loop on Vibrant ROMs. I used to flash ROMs almost weekly back in the day but have since not been as active. I have flashed several ROMs from Froyo to MIUI and CM7. I would really like to just settle down with a ROM and leave my phone alone.
I know good GPS is a glaring issue with this phone but if anyone can help me locate a ROM that you feel has given you very reliable GPS, please let me know. I just purchased an 1800 Mah battery with hopes of getting really good battery life with help of a ROM/kernel combo that is efficient.
Thank you in advance for your help!
I would suggest you fixing gps using the hardware fix forum and then install Bionix Rom. I did the same and it locks fast and accurate (9m indoor). Also the battery life is great.

As far as I know, GPS issue in Vibrant phones is hardware and software issue, so installing a ROM without fixing the hardware would not help, however it might improve the accuracy.
bionix did great for me! However took like 3 minutes to get a lock
I just installed Bionix-V this morning with the Bali 1.8.8 kernel. I think this should be good enough for me to settle on.
I really was not interested in doing any hardware modifications. Maybe later if I swap out my FFC with newer REV2 version because I am getting tired of the banding.
Given how bad Samsung Galaxy S2's GPS accuracy is using the stock Samsung Gingerbread firmware, I'm curious to know if Samsung got the GPS issues fixed in ICS?
Using the standard Samsung ICS firmware, how many satellites are folks able to lock on to? What kind of accuracy are you getting? How long does it take to get a lock?
Before I upgrade to ICS, I'd like to know what I can expect.
Thanks for any answers.
P.S. I've spent a few hours reading through S2 ICS threads for any mention of GPS performance and have found only one post that mentioned how long it was taking someone to get a lock indoors, which isn't a fair test of GPS ability.

I've been using ICS for a while now, (Since betas - december) and all I can say is that it fixes faster than GB stock...
I'm using now the Bezke 4.1 ICS rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393569), and it feels great!
I don't know about other users (from other countries and stuff) but for me is working really great!!
With CM9 & the AGPS patch in my sig, I can normally get 10m accuracy (sometimes 5). Outside takes around 10-20 seconds to get a lock, inside 30 seconds to a minute (and I live in a house with an iron roof so it's not ideal for GPS or even phone signals to get thru).

This sounds like they fixed the GPS issue. Using the stock Gingerbread, I could never get my S2 to do better than about 25m. Rooted with the GPS fix I found here I'm getting 5-10m regularly. Really, the only reason I rooted in the first place was to fix the GPS. I'd be quite happy with a non-rooted S2 if it didn't have GPS issues.
Most GB firmware and phones never had GPS issues .
Its not a widely reported problem on XDA and like many my GB phone never had a problem from firmware KDD onwards .

My S2 (GT-I9100) was sent to me from someone in France. Most of the time it would only lock to around 50m accuracy and only occasionally lock to 25m accuracy. Once I got it rooted and installed the GPS fix it worked fine. It will lock to 10m pretty quickly and then after a bit on a clear day lock down to 5m.
My concern is I don't want to go to ICS if I'll lose my 5m accuracy ability.
Personal opinion ICS is not worth the upgrade yet .

This is the advice I need to hear. The only real reason I'd want to upgrade to ICS is to try Google Chrome browser. As a web dev it would be useful to see how my sites do on it, but I'm not keen to live on the bleeding edge either. The last thing I want to do is screw up my GPS lock or WiFi abilities... or for that matter, brick my phone again (that majorly sucked).

JFI I'm a heavy GPS user as I have my own speed limit app which I programmed up in the days when I had an HTC Desire.
When I got my S2, I found the GPS performance to be much worse than my old Desire and I had to alter the programming of the app to cope with the worse accuracy obtained on the S2 (which was particulaly noticeable during first few mins of using GPS)
I say all this so that you know I really use gps all the time
Since upgrading to ICS a week ago ( the O2 LP3 firmware), the accuracy at first use of a GPS app (Google Maps or my own speed limit one) has improved enormously and I have been able to revert my app to its old settings.
I think a lot of people who say there was nothing wrong with the GPS didn't really rely on it and it was good enough for their own personal use (either that of there is a strange bug that only affects certain ones )
Simon
Example - saved tracks from my app - new track in red (6Apr12) - old track in blue (30Dec11) Yellow Circle - actual starting point
They dit fix it !!
Hi from France,
i have galaxy s2 since 1 year and GPS accuracy was important for me (walking, geocaching...)
it was crap with gingerbread and i had to buy a bluetooth gps device to have a decent accuracy (5 m for example)
i never root or else to the phone, only official updates.
I got ICS a few weeks ago...and wow, S2 is at last accurate. It is quicker and around 10 m accurate after 10 seconds (with a gps) and sometimes 5m after a few seconds more.
When i check coordinates on google maps or other soft they are really around 5 meters accurate.
So i did no longer need my bluetooth device....i used S3 yesterday : it has 2x more satellites in view (russian ones + american ones). But accuracy wasn't better than a "up to date" galaxy S2...
never forget that 5 meters is the best to expect from those devices, even "trekking GPS" are around 5-10 meters... only military devices (with payment) can have a better precision (around 10 cm.....)
Yes folks, Galaxy S2 has now a REAL gps device inside, and that's a pretty good news, ICS must be the reason !
Alex
Hello
I am from India. The GPS on ICS is pretty good.
10 seconds lock in an open area and 30 seconds inside the house.
I must say its pretty great.. Way better than the gingerbread.:good:
What GPS??
I bought my S2 with GB on it. Later I upgraded to CM9.1. Up till today (1 week of using it) I have never seen my S2 got GPS lock. I started to wonder if Samsung forget to install GPS on my phone. Compared to Xperia and Zte Blade, S2 is huge in size and performance but no GPS lock. I have try a few different rom ( GB, ICS & JB) and all of them has no GPS lock. Must be they forgot to install GPS on my phone
Hello alls!
I am currently running the Stock w/Goodies 1.78 and it is just smooth as smooth can be. I'm really anxious to try the cm10 or the AOSP/AOKP but am hesitant because I use this phone for work and I don't have a ton of downtime where I can play with the roms like I can on my personal TBolt. Which current JB leaked ROM has been the best in your experience, and is it worth the switch (in terms of smoothness and things actually working)? I appreciate your time!

i am using cm 10. i use my phone m-f as a gps device in a windshield holder 8hrs plus a day. cm has been real smooth for me.
I've been using cm10 for 3 weeks. Its great.
If you are using your phone for business,I might hold off and give it more time depending on how important the device is to your business.
Could always nandroid and try it out.
Have u noticed any stupid FC's or things not working?

Gotta say CM10 really is a great, even with the few problems I had on the first nightlies. I flashed the most recent today and for the first time since I bought my LTE it is cool to the touch and the phantom battery drain that carried over for a few nightlies is gone. The only gripe I've had is the gps and this is really just knit-picking but on stock sense I had a lock with in 3 meters nearly every time and on cm10 its 8 but like I said, nit-picking. Dead Trigger runs reasonably well with modified xml to enable the so called Tegra 3 exclusives. Theres a pretty anoying graphical glitch that is persistent in the game but if you go to developer options and turn off hardware overlay it goes away at the slight expense of performance but its negligible lag, all in all my favorite rom so far
Sounds pretty convincing. No words from the AOSP/AOKP usrs?

I think most are using Cm
AOKP/PA are based on CM, so the same stuff will be working/nonworking
Deck's CM10 is awesome and very smooth. For me it was a daily driver for a week up to 8/29 build with ZERO crashes, but I had problems with data connection switching between wi-fi, 3g and 4g, voice always worked. It took up to 30 minutes or a reboot to get the data connection back again with voice always working. I can't wait to flash the 9/4 release and see if that problem has been fixed as I was getting 17+ hours with 4-5 hours of screen on and lots of calls.

I get good battery life because I'm always connected to Wi-Fi on campus. Wi-Fi uses a lot less power than 3G or LTE do.
I was able to pull a little over a full day with 3 hours of screen on time, which included an hour of 720p video streaming, and I still had 25-30% left.
I've been using CM10 since I got the phone on Saturday. Have to say it is great. CM10 has only had official nightlies for about a week now, but I have yet to find something that doesn't work as expected. Definitely a daily driver. Deck and toastcfh have really outdone themselves this time
It also helps battery life when you have good signal strength for 3g/LTE use. Or using Airplane mode instead.
I have little to no signal almost everywhere I go in Iowa, so my battery lasts maybe a day with no usage; a lot less if I decide to call people or surf the net.
Been using CM10 nightlies for a few days now; I use my phone both for personal and my firm exchange account. Default CM10 email.apk fixes the annoying text-size issue from stock. No unusual FCs. Smooth performance, good battery life. Google now is interesting, but still "learning" me.
Minor issues I have experienced, but not everyone else has:
-Auto-brightness doesn't work
-Phone calls seem to use more battery than stock, although that's just a hunch
-No LTE for me (even after clean flashing the most recent nightly)
-Phone pin-locks itself every time i hit the power button, even though i unchecked the "power button immediately locks" option.
I installed it and set it up over the course of about 2 hours one night. Had to re-install all the apps because I couldn't use Titanium pre-rooting. I think it's worthwhile.
+1 on CM 10, It has been fantastic! I seem to be getting better battery life than stock. definitely less charging.
So what's the difference between Paranoid Android and CM10? Isn't it just CM10 with tweaks?
I have also tried CM10 and I LOVED it. Super smooth, Jelly Bean is awesome to use. But for some reason my GPS would not work, nor would the video recording, and I had issues with using the speakerphone during calls. Those issues were enough to force me to go back to Sense. I hadn't heard of people having GPS issues, which I thought was odd, since it worked on other ROMs.
After I get my phone fixed, or get a new one, I'm guna have to try it again. Jelly Bean is really awesome.

I have had no issues with speakerphone (use it fairly regularly), GPS, or video (have taken a few HD vids already) with the last three (9/2, 9/4, 9/5) builds of CM10.
