Safestrap cannot mount /system or /internalstorage - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys,
I have a vzw galaxy s4 on 4.4.2 kitkat (stock and rooted) and the thing is i installed safestrap and after installing safestrap i tried to install the cm12 5.0.1 rom on my s4. The install completed successfully although it said that it could not mount /system, /systemorig, /internal storage. I installed this on rom slot 1 to try it out and when i tried booting from it all i got was a black screen. I did a little further investigating and i discovered that safestrap would not even do a simple factory reset because it could not mount /system or /internalstorage. I have no micro sd card installed and when i tried manually mounting /system it would not let me check it. ANY HELP IS APPRICIATED THANKS!!
thanks in advance,

Unless you have a GPE S4 or mdk bootloader, you won't be able to flash any aosp/cm/aokp roms. If you are using safestrap 3.72, you can only flash to the stock slot. I would recommend flashing the no wipe nc5 tar file through odin to restore your phone. I would recommend echoe rom or hyperdrive next time

Here is the exact problem you and I were trying to get to the bottom of with 3.75 A03. I've only had it happen twice in the last couple weeks while flashing tons of different ROMs so it's not that big of a deal. Just pointing out. Also, I've not found anyway to fix it except to Odin back to a stock ROM, reroot and then reinstall SS.

@LGtMgG2t - you must have missed the above. The issue here is the OP flashed an incompatible ROM.

Yeah the problem was I flashed a non-touchwiz based ROM which screwed everything up. So after installing the stock NC5 ROM I rooted it and installed ss. I'm currently running the hyperdrive ROM I installed using SS and there are no problems so far!

My bad man. However, I did verify flash a CM or AOSP based ROM definitely gave me that problem too and I had to Odin back to NC5.

Ok glad to help!
1. Put your phone in download mode
2. Open Odin
3. Flash this file in Odin:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407590051
4. Once flashed root your phone using towelroot.com and click the symbol to download (make sure unknown sources is on)
5. After you achieve root download super su from google play.
6. Open super su and disable Knox
7. Download safestrap from here: https://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jflteatt/safestrap/ (Make sure to download 3.72 jflte)
8. Download terminal emulator
9. Open terminal and type "su" without quotes and then type "setenforce 0" without quotes
9. Open safestrap and grant root access and install recovery
10. Download the hyperdrive ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301724 and download nc5 modules from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23486521113837640

Oh another thing I forgot is that once you download towelroot.apk from the website you need to open the app and click "make it ra1n" and you should have root. Once you reboot into the hyperdrive it doesn't come with root so here are the steps:
1. Uninstall super su that comes with the ROM
2. If it is a system app (super su) then install no bloat free from google play and then uninstall super su
3. Install towelroot again
5. Open the app and click "make it ra1n"
6. Open super su after that and it should update its binary
7. Your FINALLY all set

Hello guys.
Could you please explain why should I install ROM in wiped stock slot? And not in the free space of SD-card? I thought that Safestrap was invented to flash and run different ROMs safely from the SD-card (virtual img slot) or free space of internal memory (real slot). Anyway, that was so with my moto razr. It seems I just misunderstood something.

[Q] HELP with dead me7 sch-i545

I need help to revive my ME7 SCH-I545 VERIZON. my device was rooted and had a twrp recovery. accidently I installed 4.3 on stock slot in TWRP. Now I can't boot anymore into sys or recovery. I tried to flash stock rom through ODIN but it failed with "no pit partition error".
I loaded a pit file (which I am not sure is compatible with ME7) and it failed again.
I don't know how to remove the TWRP recovery while the device is dead. It seems to me the logical thing to do because of pit error in odin.
Any idea?

As far as I know I had a twrp. I installed it and got a recovery which I encounter the first time: first an option to choose if to continue to system or to recovery. press recovery and then you get all the options like boot options, install, wipe and so on. I had my stock rom me7 installed on the stock slot and I installed a custom rom on slot 1. My mistake was to install the new ver 4.3 on the stock slot instead of an new slot.
I hope that I convinced you. I still need a help! my device is dead!

I can say now with certainty that most files out there are corrupted which is very bad news for us users.

[Q] curious. just asking.

ok so i know the SACS thread is closed. i was reading on youtube that the reason that V4 was giving people (including me) network problems is because of the baseband. its saying to be on version N900PVPUCNC5. i checked and im on Version N9000PVPUCNAB. im just asking for a little help. i really like sacs. so is there any way to revert to N900PVPUCNC5 so i can make v4 work? any suggestions will help. thanks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715034 nab is the old version. You are most likely having problems because you need to upgrade (not revert) to nc5. Read through that link then grab the file and flash in Odin. After you Odin to nc5 you will need to reinstall a recovery so make sure you have that file ready. After you install recovery you need to wipe everything including your internal sd and system. Reboot recovery and install sacs rom. Not much to it just sounds like there is a lot.

I Got an MDK Device. Now What?

I recently purchased an MDK device and I was wondering if anyone could let me know what recoveries I can flash.
You are now able to install any recovery on the s4! Want TWRP? You can get it. CWM, no problem. Heck, safestrap might even work. And you can flash any s4 ROM you want like the gpe ROM, octorom, cyanogenmod. Have fun with mdk! Still need a device with mdk myself XD.

I don't know if you can answer this, but when you say any TWRP recovery, do you mean ANY? Are all versions of TWRP loki'd? And how do I install a new custom recovery if I already have one? Do I use recovery tools app? And do I have to remove the other one first? Sorry for the barrage of questions, I'm just not looking to screw anything up on a fresh MDK device.
For TWRP, Just go to the play store and download Goo Manager, and that will install the latest TWRP when you choose to install it. If you need to uninstall a custom recovery, you will need to use odin 3.07 or above and the MDK full wipe .tar file (Im trying to find it for you as of now, will reply when found) and flash the stock mdk firmware so you can use loki/root and install a new recovery and a custom rom.
OK because the device comes with CWM installed. Can I update it through CWM ROM manager? And goomanager is no longer supported as an app. Also, where do I download gapps?
Hey again, found the MDK full wipe tar file. I have a no wipe MDK.tar file. What's the difference between full and no wipe? And any ideas for my questions on my last post? Sorry for asking so many. Just don't want to mess anything up.
Full wipe will delete everything, but it will be able to 100% delete any recovery if you dont want, the no wipe will keep data but restore every partition, i think that includes recovery, if you need to keep the data, try the no wipe, and see if recovery is there, if not, you can install CWM from the play store or find a flashable TWRP for odin, depending on preference. And if you want to just keep CWM, i think the CWM app should be able to update it. Also didnt know goomanager wasnt a thing anymore. Havent used a custom recovery in a year or two, stuck with safestrap.

I just read through the thread and sensed confusion. Use Odin 3.09 (just google it) to flash (in the AP box) The MDK full Wipe tar.md5, that will set the device to stock MDK, then download either CWM (http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.4-jfltevzw.img) or TWRP (http://goo.im/devs/s0updev/gooinsideme) and flash one of them with Flashify from the Play Store.
Download the ROM of your choice and place on SD Card and install using your Custom Recovery, use Gapps from here for CM (http://itvends.com/gapps/gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip), here for AOSP (http://highonandroid.com/android-apps/download-android-4-4-4-gapps/) and Touchwiz ROMs should already contain them because they are licenced to.

Also, this is a bit off of the current conversation, but for some reason my Google Apps aren't updating themselves. I don't have the material design Play Store or any of the very recent updates for the Google Apps. Any ideas?

OC5 update questions?

ok I odin back to stock NH7...
took the ota to NK4...
then took ota to OC5..
everything is cool but a few questions...
Does cf auto root work on OC5 I didnt see the file on his site?
Which recovery works best CWM Philz or TWRP ? and im sure i need a lolipop compatible one?
Waanum xposed for 5.0 ready yet?
Root, debloat, and enable wifi hotspot are usually my main goals...
Definitely looking for a Lolipop hotspot Mod?
Is it just me or does the notification panel have to be touched at the top to be dragged down? ( All previous builds I could set a gesture swipe down to bring down notifications.
I mean it doesnt work on NOVA or Lightning Launcher?
So cf auto root for oc5 yes,for recovery I'm using twrp 2.8.6.1 and is working just fine, and so for right now exposed is not working on samsung based roms but if you have an aosp rom even if it is for samsung it may work and for free wifi hot spot you can use galaxy tools(idoneapps) i don't remember about notification panel since I'm on darklord rom.

Go here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522638 and grab nk4 tar.
1. Odin'd stock NK4 tar using Odin3 v3.09 in the AP slot (kept Auto Reboot & F. Reset Time checked).
2. Let phone reboot. Skipped all the setups.
3. Powered down phone than booted into stock recovery to perform a factory reset.
4. Once phone rebooted I went to 'System Updates' and let the OTA do its thing. Phone rebooted.
5. Powered down phone and rebooted into bootloader (everything showed official)
6. Odin'd TWRP using Odin3 v3.09 in the AP slot (UNCHECKED Auto Reboot & F. Time checked).*
7. Pulled battery and rebooted into recovery (TWRP).
8. Flashed Chainfire's UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 and rebooted.
9. Successfully rooted.
This isn't my instructions. I'm just copying and pasting from the general section.
http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ here you go look for ms-900p it will say nh7 4.4.4 but you can use it to root your sprint note 3 on 5.0 oc5!!!

You don't need cf auto root. Flash your recovery. I'm still using philz not a single issue. Then flash supersu zip and reboot that's it.

Are there any ROMs for oc5 yet? Isee Lollipop ROMs, but they seem to be "ports" or use nh/nk. I have tecently updated and would love to flash a ROM. Does anyone know which of the current 5.0 ROMs are compatible with oc5?

I did an ODIN with NK4 and NH7 but the software version still reads OC5?? I do not get it as I looked in build.prop to see if that was where it pulls it from. If I go into settings about....SOFTWARE VERSION reads N900PVPUEOC5??? How is this possible if I did a factory reset and did a ODIN with both NK4 tar and then tried NH7 tar?? I cannot seem to get the OTA again since the system seems to think I have OC5......HELP PLZ!:crying:

Once you Odin the tar, immediately reboot into stock recovery and perform a factory reset and THEN boot into your OS

No bootloop because of the recovery?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
through trial and error, it seems like superSU causes the botloop (every time I try to install that it does the bootloop)
Last question will this wipe my internal SD or just wipe the /data partition?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
Flashed this, seems to work except I get a No SIM error.
Doesnt wipe internal storage, but no matter how many times I flash, I get invalid sim error. A quick twrp restore to 5.0 and all is good again.

No, it's the supersu files which cause the bootloop. Having a custom recovery does not cause any issues.
I've got the latest twrp installed. It's running fine here. Once a supersu is avail that works with I'll flash and continue on my way.
Had anyone tried flashing UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip from twrp? Read this as a guide for a nexus 5...

Unless you took the full update. Custom recovery and su causes bootloops.
I used odin to flash the entire firmware and then proceeded to install TWRP. Works fine for me.

It's only the supersu files which cause issues. Twrp works fine.

Sure twrp is still installed? If you just flashed twrp and rebooted chances are twrp got over written by stock on reboot. Because nobody else has been able to

Just checked, TWRP is running. Same process as @The Sickness
If TWRP working can we restore a previous backup like the Twi5ted Lollipop?
