Hi there
I've asked a couple of questions in various threads, but I'm not sure if they get noticed as they get buried a couple of pages deep or the threads don't get touched for a couple of days.
I bought my Z2 second hand, and the firmware is already 4.4.4 23 etc .167
My customisation version is 1281-1460, do I need to find a ftf 4.4.2 with the same customisation number or can I just pick a generic AU branded 4.4.2 to downgrade using flashtool and then root/backup from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759934
then follow the rooted 4.4.4 flash guide contained here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
Thanks very much
Glenn
After running a few different methods I finally got one method to work following a YouTube video. Took me three laptops and two different downloads to get the downgrade this morning (4.4.2/314) and about an hour of finding a root method that worked for me. I think half of it is driver issues because it was my wife's rubbish laptop that wound up doing both jobs.
I'll play around with 4.4.2 for a while before deciding on custom rom or 4.4.4

Here it is here.
ROOT Xperia Z2 [17.1.2.A.314]: http://youtu.be/oEWheFGJRJ0
Other than changing laptops one of the other things I did was change from MTP to MSC which I didn't see written anywhere. Not sure if it was that, the method, the third laptop or just dumb luck, but it worked.

I have just started to use android. Galaxy S 2 is my 1st ever android device gifted by my wife on our 2nd anniversary. Even though it was bought in Lahore, Pakistan; it is 3 mobile UK branded gs2. I was about to root it watching this video: youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=KNVE0UDe-bQ
I realized that since this is branded and I cant even update it (which could mean that it is locked), I may not be able to root the device following this video. Also, I am confused since my device's build number and kernel number are pretty different (screen shot attached).
Can someone guide me easy to follow exact steps to root this device safely? If I mess up, my wife will use the brick on me .
What software would I want?
Where will I download the software from?
Where will I get the insecure kernel from?
I so want to use WIFIKILL at office

Look in the Original Development Section for CF-Root, this has everything you should need and good easy to follow instructions....
Read the OP fully Before you try anything!

There is only one issue here.. I do not know what the ODS is as I am new here. It would be nice of you, if you would guide me with links?
You can remove network lock AFTER rooting. You can root using cfroot but ChainFire has only released cfroot for stock firmware not branded 3 firmware so you will need to flash to stock firmware, root, rhen use the network unlonk in the market. I found the CF one didnt work but the other one in the market works.
After you have done this then you can use ClockWorkMod (added with cfroot) to flash the gtalk with video.
There is alot to learn...

can root i9100G not? coz i having a problem on it
Thanks Rajesh. Let me show you the crap apps I am dealing with. The guide you are have referred to; will it work for my branded GS2?
I have another question. Can I de brand the device and get rid of all these apps without rooting it? I will not be able to use wifikill, but then if this is more complicated then rooting a non branded S2; I guess I will have to live with this! HATE IT!
Phone is now rooted!!!
Thank you everyone! My phone is now rooted and I am all set!
I bought a brand new photon 4g and upon activating it.. I made the mistake of accepting the OTA 45.3.6 because now, despite all my efforts to root the device using AIO's, torpedo method, and even using the relatively new method that apparently works well with the Photon
@ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235376
Im about ready to give up. Ive had plenty of experience rooting and flashing my HTC Hero CDMA and Samsung Epic however, i was not expecting this.
It seems the main problem with the AIO's is that they are outdated and I am only receiving error messages upon clicking the batch file (yes i have debugging while USB on)
If anybody could help me or give me an alternative rooting method I would be greatful. Would unlocking the bootloader before trying to root make a difference? Again any help would be super appreciated because I've ready the forums and used TFSE and im still coming up stock.
So I'm really new to the Photon too (came from an Evo4G), and had updated to the latest OTA as well. I just rooted using this method, it worked great:
[ROOT] Photon Torpedo, dockless root access
More specifically, I followed the directions here. Note: I did get an error message near the end of that process, but just kept going, and it worked just fine.
I haven't unlocked the bootloader, so someone else will have to chime in for advice on that....
That worked! And I happened to find another set of directions that made things even easier:

Hi Guys, I'm in a stupid situation and I hope you can help me.
I tried to root my new ZOPO ZP500+ Plus MTK6577 following the instructions from this russian forum: http://forum.china-iphone.ru/viewtopic.php?p=758619#p758619 by using the SP Flash Tool. It was successful, so I got root. But now I have no WLAN and no Bluetooth. :crying:
So I downloaded the original Zopo 500+ Firmware from here:http://www.zopomobile.com/fuwu.php and flashed it. Unfortunately the problem hasn't been resolved.
I try my luck at http://www.zopomobileshop.com/en/content/9-download-zopo-mobile-latest-rom but especially the file for the ZOPO ZP500+ is no longer available.
Please, can someone help me to solve the problem? I know, there are a lot of smart people here. Thank you.
ZOPO ZP500+ PLUS original Firmware / Boot Image
Okay, I got it with the firmware from http://www.zopomobile.com/xiazai.php
Attention for all others: there are two versions of the firmware. Only the version from 20121009 worked for me.
There is also a paper as a pdf on the page that describes the different versions. There is probably a sticker on the back under the battery that indicates the version. For me, this sticker is missing completely, so I could't determine the version.

More on ZP500+ rooting
Further to the above excellent post (noting the firmware differences which is important to know when updating the PROM) I also noted that the root process has caused some users problems. There is a thread on Android.net that I quote below, noting how a ZP500+ was rooted recently. Note it refers back to an xda-developers.com thread about one method for generic rooting a phone:

I have a ZP500+ but in my case the supplier (Etotalk.com) rooted the phone for me prior to shipping the phone too me.
For everybody who has a ZP500+, I'm almost sure that, if you don't have the sticker, your version is 6620 (if you have the sticker, it could be 6628 or 6620, which it is ticked).
I'm having a lot of problems rooting the phone... Teorically, it is rooted, but a lot of apps don't work (root uninstaller, adaway, adblock, root xplorer, etc). In fact, the only app with succesful root access in my phone have been Apex Launcher... Toooooo weird :S
any ideas?? thanks!
I have tried both the methods to root my phone...that would be "Root MANY ANDROID"

as well as flashtool tutorial of "noob-proof root via Flashtool".
However I still receive error regarding to either driver failure or unable to hack...I have followed all the steps correctly and made sure the drivers are insalled too... you can see that in the attached images...
Suddenly I feel sony made my phone un-hackable or what??
Please advise me...I am sure I am performing some mistake somewhere...I have been watching different threads on this forum for past 2-3 days and still I don't have a solution to this...Please HELP!!!

Hi -
I am sorry if this question bothers some ... but I have looked around (searched) for a day or 2 and learning the do's and don'ts
of Rooting / Installing Recovery / Flashing ROM's for This phone (my 5th Android phone). I am pretty familiar with rooting and
running custom recoveries flashing roms and kernels and even a little coding (very little) on many phones and tabs over the past
couple years. But this is a new phone ( well new for me ... old for everyone elses haha ) . I have used the search forum button,
but with this phone in particular (T-Mobile Version) it takes me to hundreds of different results.....
What I am asking for is ANY HELP AT ALL. Be it a reply or a link or just a push into the correct thread. Like I said, I want to
Install a recovery (either CWM or TWRP )
Root the phone
Start flashing custom ROMS and Kernels
I see some program called "Odin" but I have never used a PC app to root my stuff in the past ... so yeah I am confused
Lastly....what is throwing me OFF is my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S II, but it is the T-Mobile version, so it does not have the home key,
and I can't even figure out how to get into recovery without that.
PLEASE Help me .... Here is exactly what I got. ( See pictures bellow )
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S II ( T-MOBILE VERSION )
MODEL: SGH-T989
STOCK [JB] 4.0.4
Network: T-Mobile
SIM Card: Apx 2 year's old
SD-Card: 32 Gig's
