[Q] OTA Lollipop update - LG G Watch

Hi everyone !
I see a lot of websites talking about Lollipop since last week (I'm in 4.4W2). But when I check for updates on the watch, there's nothing.
Does someone have a list of where and when the OTA updates are deployed ?
Thanks.

It's a random, staged rollout, unfortunately.

Its crazy/sad that our watches are getting updated to 5.0 before some of our phones!!!

It is if you agent rooted and have a custom ROM.. My g2 stock is still on kit Kat but I am on aicp. 5.0.1... Also have to realize these updates are smaller and not having to be pushed through a carrier.. Not to mention the watches do way less

If you want to install it now rather than wait for the update to be deployed, there are already a couple threads on here that can help you install it. Mine hasn't hit the roll-out either but I went ahead last night and installed the update on two G Watches.
Here is a thread that can help you if you've already rooted your LG G Watch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/general/lollipop-ota-update-download-how-to-t2969469

I didn't root my G Watch yet but I think I'll do it this week. Tired of waiting for OTA updates. I did it with my LG G3, and I'm happy about it now !
Thanks

I finally installed a custom on my G2 after dealing with stock for a year, longest I've ever used an android device stock. Can't wait to see what custom Roms get made (if any) out of the 5.0.1 source release for this.

What do you mean pick up incoming calls ? 4.4W2 already does that no ? Do you mean that you can talk to your friend WITH the watch now ?

The nexus 4 was last in nexus line to get Lollipop 5.0 when it launched. It got 5.0.1 as of yesterday before nexus 5, but it's a small (size-wise) bug fix update.
As for your complaints, i would've told you "...and that's what you get for buying a samsung", but i'll be nice

you're right! now it works again finally

So what im reading into here is if your phone is still kit kat and not lollipop i wont get the update for the watch. Is this correct or is the watch update independent of what my phone does or is?

The watch update is independent of the paired device's system version. My G2 is running 5.0 and I hadn't received an update notification on my watch when it started rolling out. My roommate has kitkat on his as well, we flashed the ZIP found in here and were golden, runs perfectly. That said, there are a couple new features that won't work on Kitkat (Such as the priority notifications feature from 5.0 phones which gets replaced by the normal Mute feature found in 4.4w1 and 4.4w2)... actually, I think that's the only feature that acts differently depending on host's system version.

I know somebody found it and posted it, but did the OTA ever actually go? Verizon never updated their One max support doc (still showing the Kit Kat OTA http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/one-max.pdf) and HTC still hasn't confirmed it on their software updates page (http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-software-updates/).
Every other OTA I've received the day it rolled out, and I still have nothing on mine. Did you get the update OTA or flash the file linked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2767922?
I haven't seen anything about when the official OTA will roll out, and my stock recovery isn't working, so I can't do it manually .

I RUU'ed back to stock Sense 6 then installed TWRP again.
If you check the HTC Software status website, you see that it is in the certification phase for Verizon.

Next Update ? Android L ? 4.4.3 ? 4.4.4 ???

So what do you guys think will be the next update we will get you think Samsung/Tmobile will bother updating us to the 4.4.4 ??? Or just wait it out and go str8 to Android L ?? Will be interesting to see how Android L Looks once touchwiz is on top
I was wondering the same thing I'm betting we may not get Android L.... It probably makes more sense for Samsung to come out with a Galaxy s6 with Android L....

Same thing I was thinking I don't think the galaxy 5 will ever see Android L or at least for a really long time right before the galaxy 6 comes out.....
I'm guessing that Galaxy F/S5Prime will more than likely get the priority of the updates before the s6 lol
Well there's the 18 month upgrade rule, supposely these carriers follow. So we'll see L, just most likely in the summer or fall 2015 unfortunately.

I'm disappointed we don't even have 4.4 yet, I don't understand how this works. Samsung devs finalize it, and send it off to carriers? And then carriers mess with it? This takes months and months?

No, that won't help either. Even the 4.4.2 ROMs are broken. The devs are trying hard to get the drivers working, but I don't know enough about that stuff to see what exactly is holding them back.

fragmentation is the wrong word, fragmentation implies that android as an entire OS is missing major features and apps are incompatible which is simply not the case, you're thinking of segmentation which is what android is now(back in the 2.2/2.3.3 days you would be right though). With 4.0 android being released, it really blurred the lines between different Android versions and made things very modular as opposed to lets say iOS which is very monolithic, you can not get the latest safari on an older version of iOS, you can however have the latest google now, maps, ect. on a device with 4.0 without rooting and have full functionality for the most part(just missing minor things like "ok google") and unlike iOS, aps built on newer versions of android work on older versions of android unlike iOS where newer apps are incompatible with older versions of iOS
I think an update is required. I have a glitch with the back cover. The current modem is pretty awful. It even makes my phone start up longer. The device even added that T-Mobile 4G LTE screen logo too. I remember it took no time to boot up the S5. Now, it takes mine roughly 30 seconds.

I would wait to update for now. If you update, you'll most definitely loose root and custom recovery. Wait until devs make a modified version of it.

While this is good news, it should be taken with a grain of salt as "Unlocked" means no carrier affiliation. You have a while to wait before the US Carriers trade bloat filled test builds back and forth with Samsung. Then they still need to decide when THEY want to send out the OTA.
We did it! Thanks david!
this may be a bit of a noob question...
the leaked lollipop rom for international versions of the S4 that looks to be easy to root and flash from a quick glance that i had at that thread....
will that kernel help us make a easy to mod rom since its an official from samsung kernel... or does it have to be a SCH-I545 specific kernel?
thanks
Brian
The Verizon GS5 has started its Lollipop rollout today, earlier than any other carrier. Hopefully, they will do the same for us...

ZV9 RDF

http://device.sprintpcs.com/LG/LS990-SPRINT/LS990ZV9.rdf
I looked a few days ago, and the latest was still ZV8 at http://device.sprintpcs.com/LG/LS990-SPRINT/latest I just looked, and there is a ZV9 listed! Funny thing is they never updated the android version on either ZV8 or this new ZV9 so it still shows 4.4.2. The only thing other than the build number that i noticed different is DSSClientVersionSZ_5.4.01. That was version 5.2.00 on all previous builds.
This is the first sign of life from sprint for our phone in quite a while. ZV8's RDF posted pretty close to when it was actually released, but there was zv7 which never came out, as well as zv5. So, who knows. maybe they will wait for another even number build version, or maybe we get an update soon!
Nice find!:good:
Please keep us posted!
Keeping an eye out for this... wondering if it will block the current root methods and/or bump?

RDF's are generally test builds. Didn't the international g3 receive an update recently that was still 5.0.1? Generally we receive updates after the international version gets their update, and then Sprint tests them before sending them out. I highly doubt we would get a newer build than them.

Look at it this way.... It took LG like 7 months to announce 5.0.1 so if it is a new android version I think it might show up on the LG dev page (that way we can build it like we did with L). I'll tell you this much I will make sure to use the next update as a base in my ROM

Nexus's only received 5.0.1 in December, and we received it in February(about 2 and a half months later) Not very long of a wait if you compare it to Sprint/Samsung phones of the past. Sprint used to be notorious at having like 50 rdf's posted before releasing an update.

Sprints RDF's only show the android version, and the LG software number, which the current one is ZVA. The android version has not been updated at all since the first build, so it still shows 4.4.2 even though zv8 was 5.0.1

I'm wondering if a factory reset might clear it up, or, failing that, can we downgrade to the previous version?

From my experience yes the factory reset will help. I've had updates occasionally lag my ZW2 (and LG G Watch) down so doing the factory reset will help. And while yes you can downgrade unless if you find a method to block OTA updates it will keep trying to force you to update to the latest OTA.
