Hi!
This will might sound crazy but is there any way to record videos in 720p?
I know originally it's a 480p camera but maybe there is a software which makes it possible.
Don't think so bro. We will get what we paid for.

Recording in 720p eats up way too much memory. I believe it has to do with its codec (3gp). My sony camcorder can record in 1080p and eat up way less memory than my vibrant. Is there any app that will give more video codec features we can choose from?
Not sure what you mean. I recorded in 1080p at the Falcon's game last Sunday and had well over an hour worth of time to record. Not bad for a phone IMHO.
I meant that the vibrant phone camcorder records in 720p and eats up too much memory than a regular hd home camcorder would. A 10 minute video recorded from the vibrant takes up more than 700mb while a 1080p video recorded from my sony home camcorder takes up less than half of that. I think it has to do with the video format of the vibrant. I wonder if there is an app that can allow us to choose another video format other than 3gp to record with.
you cannot change the codec, and just so you know that 3gpp is just the container that holds the video but the video can be MGEP-4(XVID/DVIX) or H264 or many others. But our phones only record in H264 video and AAC audio and contain it in the 3GPP file. What I do is send my videos to youtube immediately so that they are cleared off my phone and youtube will convert them to a better H264 format and the MP4 container. So as of now you cannot change the quality of the camcorder and make it record a lesser video file.
Guess you just have to keep in mind that its a phone first, camcorder second. That's why you own a camcorder in the first place. You wouldn't expect your camcorder to get better calls than your phone would you?

I do agree that it is a phone first, but in todays world of digital everything it is nice to shed as much as you can and have an all in one device. I for one don't want to carry around a digital camera, camcorder and phone, so I picked the one that did the best of all three.
As for running out of memory there is a 32gig SD card option until someone can hack the codec to allow tweaking of the compression ratio, then again the CPU in the phone might not be able to keep up with the video being taken if it has to work to hard to compress the video more.
Not to hard to copy the files off the phone to your PC and covert away.
I believe I read that froyo firmwares record more efficiently in the MP4 container

that doesn't really make any sense. the video doesn't get put into a final true container until its done recording, its just a temp file while its doing it, and video containers dont affect quality, just playback
I know what you mean, but I believe they improved the quality as well as changing the container.

Hmm, the video is in 3gp format, but it really looks good in outdoors shots. The video is 3gp but the quality is excellent. I tried converting my videos with my professional video editing software to .avi and it really looked good, even on my Sony Full HD Smart TV. I am using the stock camera on my 2.3.4 GB and no, I haven't tried a camera app yet. Not sure which one to try...???

I apologize if I misinformed implying that recording was by default mp4--it does as you say record 3gp--could it be that mp4 was introduced with ICS? Mine is running the ICS update and records mp4, but I don't recall the options from back with GB.
Here's a quote:
"1. Some Android phones may provide support for additional formats or file types not listed in the table. Similarly, some video formats may only be supported by later Android versions."

I don't know if it relates. Maybe you can upgrade your phone to ICS with an official update?
As for apps, I haven't used any, though they're easy enough to check ratings and specs at the Play Store.
Can't make any recommendations, however a simple search turned this up, for example:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera
Some people have remarked about cameras in the forums, you can do a little poking around.
Good luck.

There is another way If you don't want to upgrade to ICS,
Recording your videos in .3gp, then converting .3gp to .mp4. Since HTC Amaze GB 2.3.4 supports MP4 format.
Here is also a quote:
"It's the wisest choice to convert 3GP to MP4 for playback on most popular players and devices."
From page:

In this way, you don't need to upgrade your phone OS, and also can play your 3GP files on your other devices.
I believe if you upgrade to ICS, the problem will be gone.
Since I had the very same problem

Hi,
my stock from (HTC One V) was ICS and the camera saved videos as MP4. Recently I upgraded to JB4.2.2 (POmega 2.5 custom rom) and now it records as 3gp .
I am looking for a way to change default format to MP4.
Hey there, i was using AICP rom, and installed Moto Camera. It allows me to record in slowmotion, but for some reason the slowmotion doesn't work, it records in 60fps but without audio... and that makes me question something... This framerate can be added when you record a video normally? I mean, is there an option or mod, or something to change to make the 60fps recording work when you record a normal video?
Have u given permission to app to use mic?

Yes, the thing here is:
When i record in normal mode, records with audio and everything but in 30fps.
When i record in slow motion mode, records without audio (it's normal) but in 60fps
and i was thinking, if supports recording on 60fps, there's a way to add it into the normal recording?
Sorry bro..I don't know. I solved the problem just by giving permission.
Is that true 60fps? Move your video to pc and check it on VLC if it's really 60fps. I did once but it was 30fps l, showing in the VLC media player.
Also I don't think there's any mod to record 60fps in normal mode.
About the audio, they doesn't seems to get recorded in the slow-mo videos :/
Hi guys, i recorded a video with the 1080p 60fps mode..but the quality/details looks a bit weird/bad...in 1080p 30fps mode is all ok.
another problem is the audio capturing..the audio isn't very clean, tested also in a room with out any noise.
Recording video @1080P 60fps keeps focussing/blurring or w.e...
I know this is a problem with the mi a3
but its kinda annoying.. is there a fix or is it possible to fix it?

It is actually advised that you shoot video against 60fps as the video will comes out pixelated as I experienced.
I stayed at 1080p30fps for the most time.
I don't think there will be a possible fix unless you root your device. But you may try recording 60fps with gcam to see if it helps. (I dun know if gcam support 60fps video tho)
