I'm looking for themes for a friend. He's not rooted and has no intention to.
Beside the default themes from Xperia, The Green, Maks Mayer, Knowit Mobile AB, IRemi Mobile Theme, TDX Devs that you can find on the Google Play Store, are there any other location or site to check out?
Nope, Themes need root or superuser mod because they have been signed by sony
you wont find that easy at all..
I've already gathered that you'd need root. Unfortunately, this post aims to the ones that don't want to ROOT. I've been able to do quite a bit without root. There's ways to get your themes signed and loaded to work. That's what I'm exploring and looks good so far.

Hey, first post here, been around for a while but haven't really needed to ask any questions with all the help that's abound in other threads and discussions.
Question as I've just recently updated my TB to CM 7 and noticed now I have adds again! I've been using BAMF for the longest time and want to experience with CM7 but could certainly due without all the advertisements.
Is there a mod that can be installed or a tweak etc. that can be done (not a market program I would hope).
Thanks!
I made a script located in the developer's forum that grabs the latest host file for ad blocking I maintain and allows you to easily update again at any time. I would link you, but i'm on my phone.
I update the list every couple of Weeks with new ads I find.
another option is an app called " Absolute System Root Tools ". you can do anything from change font, boot animation, ad blocker, etc.

Or you can just install this from the market. It works like a charm.
Ok, Its not a problem with the Go Dev Team, nor is it a problem with the Go Store or any of their application running on any phone.
Im fairly new to all these launcher business, and themes, and the XDA forums helped a lot. Learned about the launchers from here (currently using go Launcher ex) and how to create a theme (using go Themesfactory). Also in the forums, i learned how to publish on the android market.... Which leads me to my point, do any of you guys know how to publish in the go theme store?
I was looking for any information on the go store. I already tried emailing the go dev team but so far they havent responded. I just wanted more exposure for my themes. Also the fact if you look at the themes on the go store, not all are made by the go dev team so it means there is a way to publish with them..
Any of you guys have any idea?

The themes have to be approved by sending them to the GO developers team. To be honest your better off using the market. Many people are pushing to have alot of the spamming crap removed from the go apps and some have even stopped using go apps till the device team comes cleaning about data mining and collecting concerns that have come to light.

Thanks. Altho im a bit worried about that Data Mining and collection you are mentioning. Is it inherent in the go dev teams apps and the themes they make or is it also included in the apps other people make using their tools? ie: Go Themes Factory

It seems to be built into the core apps. Have a look at the main Go SMS thread. Myself and another mod have asked questions concerning it and as of now have gotten no reply about it.
Hello XDA,
I was wondering if there was a way to achieve full market access other then using the CM7 rom? Do any of the other roms/rooting methods under "nook tablet android development" do this? Can anyone confirm?
Thanks for the help.
Root, install gapps, and voila--market access.
I do have market already on my tablet however I know there are some apps that dont show up in the market, I usually side load apps on that dont show up but if I were to just get them from the market it would be much easier and convenient.
Change build.prop to look like nexus S that mod is in apps & themes section, still wont give you all access but its the best you can do. Also if you're outside the US download market unlocker from android market.

You need to edit the build.prop for that. It's not very hard, but can be a little tricky. Search around (here or on google) and you'll find good instructions on that. The following thread links to quite a few helpful tips and tricks for NT, and editing build.prop is one of them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415812
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for all your help everyone. I should have done the smart thing and looked at the Intro/Newbie Thread. I was able to modify the build.prop, looks like Ill have to stick with it for now, not exactly what I wanted but its a start. I shall just have to wait till the new CM7 is released.
Hi all,
This isn't a "stir the pot" kind of question and I don't intend to start a "why root?" discussion... I've read as many other threads as possible and I'm just not clear on a few things. In a current "why do you want to root?" thread, many responded that they rooted so they could remove bloat ware, use wifi tethering, etc. Those are all the things I want, but I'm not sure how far I need to go to get those. Will I need to flash a custom ROM or can I do what I want now?
So, here's what I've got and what I hope to get:
I bought I DNA from a guy who wanted to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5. It did not have the 2.0 software update, so I was able to unlock it, S-OFF, and root it. I can use the SDK and adb, but primarily to follow instructions. Beyond that, I don't really know what I can do now. I had Cyanogen on my trusty old Nexus 1 and on my Xoom tablet, so I'm not afraid of custom ROMs. But, I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the stock DNA ROM. Except for a few things...
1) What I would like is to get rid of the silly games which I won't use. I don't know enough to know if I can, with the stock ROM but root access, remove those. There's no uninstall option, but perhaps there's a way to remove those with root access? Or would I need to flash a custom ROM?
2) Remove the "entitlement check" on the wifi hotspot app. Since I'm running on T-Mo the app won't, of course, allow activation of the hotspot. Silly... I've read several threads on using SQLite to do this, but they're from last year and either the process has changed or it no longer works. I have read that I can use another app, which is an option. But if there's a way to run the stock app, I'd go for that.
So, you can see I don't really want to change much. If I can do these now, with what access I've got, please let me know (and how, please!). If I need a custom ROM, I see three options it seems. CM (which I've always liked, but seems not yet ready for DNA??), Viper and Hatka seem to be the options which are popular. I'm open to guidance here. Not a "this is the best ROM argument", but which would you recommend for my minimalist needs?
EDIT - I mentioned "three options" above, but that was just based on my reading in the past two weeks. I see there's a new M7 rom and that thread already has over 100 pages in about a week, so it looks like a popular option as well. Apologies if I missed somebody's work and I'm open to any pointers and experiences.
Thanks in advance,

I guess if you know the name of the apk of the games, you can use root explorer to remove them from /system/apps but keep in mind we do not know what else it may break and then you may have to ruu back.
if you want to try a rom, try the sense 5 port by newtoroot
To remove some of the user / system apps like twitter or picas, i search 'root uninstaller' in the apps store, and the one with a green trash can has been quite reliable for me ^^
I personally like the minimalistic touch to the M7 / Sense 5 Rom. Easy to get my news, use gps, play music WITH beats on bluetooth/speaker, etc. But stock is really good to, no complaints there.
Thanks and an update - I ended up flashing the M7 and, like you said, it's nice. And an unexpected bonus is that the included wifi hotspot app works just fine with my T-Mo service, without any modifications at all.
I've got everything I wanted and it was easy, once I made the choice.
nearly total noob here.
I got a Huawei Valiant, rooted and with CWM flashed.
I have been compiling files to produce various ROMS; one ROM with only original Huawei apks, one with all the bloat stripped out, and one with all the elite cool hacking goodies.
While I am able to easily tweak my ROM on-device, I am unsure about how to take one of my back ups and make it a distributable ROM without any personal data.
I have tried to search, but to be honest this site doesnt seem to like my phone one bit.
Thanks in advance!
No responses???
I'm really wondering whats the point.
79 views. 3 are me. And no one who read is interested or helpful?
Oh well, I guess no one out there cares.
Update:
I think I can take a nandroid backup and morph it to a proper ROM release. Still trying to figure it out. IMG, tar, etc format issues.
Have one backup of non-user data that is Huawei branded 100%. Huawei apps plus AOSP apps.
Runs smooth.
Got another wannabe ROM, Tor integrated as system app. All data is proxied around the world. All ad networks disabled through Hosts. This 'ROM' also has a bit torrent client, RDP/VNC, WiFi Scanner/Diagnostics, and 4 browsers. Also has working tether and ROOT. Primarily for my job use.
The last wannabe 'ROM' I'm working on is a completely stripped ROM. Having problems getting all the Google gone.
I could desperately use knowledgable brains.
Please reply even if you can't help. It is a LOT of work, and it looks like no one else cares... and it is too damn hard to read hundreds of half-dead threads for help.

Good Stuff!!
Looking for Custom Rom for Huawei Valiant as well. Got it cheap from MetroPCS
Please keep us updated.
Well, after a hard drive crash and a few soft bricks... I think I'll start by posting individual steps for individual programs/installations...
As a brief example:
Windowed Apps on the Free
Be rooted (I used impactor by sauric)
Use Xposed framework from here.
Xhalofloatingwindows. Install it.
Here's how to set it up
Blah
Blah
And then install this app, holoshortcut. The open source one works great to make shortcuts to existing apps that run in windowed mode.
Make sure the apps are not running when you click the windowed icon, else the original full screen app loads (force stop Browser then click the new shortcut so it loads windowed)
Running the non windowed shortcut resets the app to children until you force stop it and run it from the new icon.
There's also blah blah to make a blah blah etc.
Interested in that infos?

I'm sorry I can't offer any help im just aNOOB myself and was inquiring for a custom ROM with a custom theme (pink) possibly, and came up on ur post, I have a little trouble understanding the whole process but I'm learning and even though I can't offer any assistance to you I think your work on this project is highly un-appreciated and over-looked. You deserve a response from someone knowledgeable and as dedicated ad yourself. I have a Huawei Valiant and I rooted with the same method was excited to install a custom ROM but as you noticed there isn't much to work with and unfortunately I'm not as educated in this area as you are. I hope u find some help and if so send some my way......thanks
How did you root your device? I just got my Valiant and need to root it to get all this bloat off, theme & mod it and get my audio back up to par with V4 A, which requires root.
* I just saw the answer posted above.....derp Impactor to gain root

I've been working on my Nexus 7 the last few months...
Seeing some interest in this endeavor, I might have to jump back in!
I'll see what forgotten goodies I got kicking around and post more soon.
