So I'm running Barin (2.3), which I love. I do have a quick question and I'm not sure if this is normal or not but when someone leaves me a voicemail I get no icon for it. I have to call myself after someone calls to see if they left a message, there's no notification for it. Is this a normal thing with ROMs? Or can I download something to get my voicemail icon back? It's not a big deal if I can't, I would just like to know when someone leaves me a message, I'm a bit new to ROMs, so this may be a normal thing, just wanted to ask.
Thanks for any help on this.

Did it work right before the update?
It's never been the same for me since they added that avatar crap.
I usually have to manually go into the app to get my voicemail. I usually disable most of the stuff in it, maybe that's why?
Maybe adjust your settings and see what happens.
I don't think it's the ROM. I THINK it's the app. $2.99 a month and you can have this free service. Lol
Have yall tried youmail? Works better than stock, can customize greetings per person. Bypasses your carrier voicemail. Notifications work very well.

I'm still on 2.2, but VM notification is working fine for me.
Yea I got it working, for some unknown reason it wasn't set up even through I did it when I first installed Barin, probably just a Sprint voicemail glitch. Oh well, it's working now, that's all that matters.
Thanks for the help.

I got this text message upon someone leaving a voice message earlier today.
//ANDROID:xxxxxxxxxx has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408-970-0000 to listen. MMSN,15f50fe30,2986,V69EhxxlPpO//CM
Anyone else having this issue, and if so, what resolved it, if anything?
I also can't seem to get into my notification options when I call into my voice mail either. Not sure if that's common or not though.

Someone left me a message this morning, it worked perfect. I would force stop it, clear data from the app, update your data profile then reboot and see if it works.
I gave it a shot, but it didn't seem to work. When I call the number texted to me, it just asks if I'm on a voice SMS enabled phone, but doesn't give me any messages.
I tried the suggestion on the help page through the VVM app, to compose a message longer than 15 sec and send it to [email protected]. Haven't had an occasion yet to test it again, but once I do, I'll update this with another reply.
Strange though. Through many different phone activations over the years, this is the only time this happened. Really hope I don't need to do a hard reset. If I do, I hope it works. Not like I can nandroid or anything. lol

Still a no go... Can't figure it out. ; ;
Gonna call Sprint and see what their take is on it. Will report back.
i am actually having the same EXACT problem!! i have tried for force stop and clearing everything... still getting the same message!! and the VM never shows up in the VVM app!! Thanks for any help!!
I guess that's the only other thing I can think of is a hard reset. If that doesn't work I'm guessing it's something on Sprint's side would have to call in for tech support. I know when you boot up for the first time VM tries to provision itself and will say Voicemail provisioned successfully once data services are active.
Well... Just got off the phone with support. I had a very determined girl trying to help me out. Went through a whole bunch of stuff, but nothing helped so far.
Her and I both googled it, and found 2 things:
1. People switching to a phone that doesn't have VVM capability receive these messages.
2. They are command messages to tell VVM to download each new message when they come in.
Can't figure out why the messages are skipping the VVM app and going straight to SMS though.
I think I'm gonna try a hard reset later and see if that does it. Hope it does, because I spent some time getting everything the way I wanted it. lol
Anyone think of a good backup app that'll help cut down on the restoring my stuff time? ^^;
ADDITION: The version of my VVM is T.5.1.0.62 Is this the one everyone else has also? Asking just to cover as many bases as possible.
Had the the same problem called sprint after about 45 min of trying different things i had to hard reset and they reprovisioned and now it works perfect.

Hard Reset did it. It was A LOT more painless than I thought it'd be though. That backup and restore thing from google really helped out a lot in getting all my apps back. ^^
Also make sure you do not have Handcent's "disable stock messaging app" setting on. When it disables the stock app, the stock app can't get the 9016 incoming VVM messages before Handcent does and will cause this.

You're welcome. I doubt it but maybe the Hancent team can find a work around for this. It seems to me that if you disable it it's disabled but maybe they can block all incoming from the stock app except 9016, kind of like a reverse black list (actually they call those white lists don't they?, lol). I'd like to see that happen, but we'll see what the Hancent crew comes up with. I know others have said that other sms apps can do this or something like that, but I like Hancent better than all the others.
Anyways, glad I could help.
My issue's back again. Did have that setting on though, so I'll restart and see if that does the trick. ^^;

I've been trying to tell my wife that for a long time, maybe I can use this as proof, she keeps saying I'm not that smart.
But glad I could help, if I hadn't done it myself I wouldn't have known how to fix it, lol.
Use spc app to "block" the text messages but still get voicemails if using Handcent.
Just wanted to pass this on to you guys, as it has always worked for me. I had the Evo rooted with a custom AOSP rom and had used GV as voicemail then decided I wanted Sprint VVM back. When I made the switch everything seemed okay, but when someone called my phone and it went to voicemail it wouldn't let them leave one. Did some reading and finally figured out something that worked.
1. Stop the VVM process in running apps.
2. Clear the data for Voicmail under applications.
3. Dial *38 and call it as you would any other number( You should hear a few beeps and then it should automatically hangup) This has something to do with disabling call forwarding but will allow your voicemail to properly provision itself.
4. Open VVM and it should tell you that it has been provisioned successfully.
You should be good to go after this point, but if it does not tell you along the bottom of phone that it provisioned try this again but reboot before step 4. Some have also said that updating your profile and prl after doing the *38 helps.
Just thought I would share this as I read the comments about a hard reset when they aren't needed. I'm not to sure this would help with the issue described by the OP but hey its worth a shot instead of losing everything.
Confirmed: Fix Works for Epic 4G
Yep, I had Handcent Default Application enabled...clearing this resulted in Visual Voicemail back to normal.
Has anyone ever had a fix for the Voicemail not notifying in gingerbread?
Also, besides the "usb internet pass through" jazz, is there any new way to get usb to work more reliably?
I had some pretty major voicemails I missed this week, so I'm back to good ol Froyo til someone saves me here.....

Download the usb_fix in imoseyon's thread, flash it, no more switching just to get disk drive to work correctly.

Thats a problem with the GB leak all the roms are based on. No fix. I just make sure to check voice mail if I miss a call. A lot of people are using Google Voice - solves the problem.
The USB issue is kernel related and has been fixed in almost all of the newer kernels.

Lame about voice mail, but oh well, atleast I will soon have a "normal" usb mode
So, new question:
-I read its possible to change the froyo power bar icons to do different things. I was wondering, is there a way to do some hacking to get custom settings like these in the gingerbread quick settings pull down? I dont use half the stuff in there, and would LOVE to add back my flashlight toggle....
The article I read was here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062036&highlight=notification
Anyone know how to clear the voicemail notification on my notification bar? I have tried every possible thing to get rid of it and it does not to go away. I have checked in the voicemail and they I have no new messages or saved messages.
Thanks,

Yeah that's a good idea.
Also I had similar problems with my VM...Honestly I hate checking my VMs because of the tedious procedure that T-Mobile Voicemail hotline forces you to do. Before my Vibrant went Vibroke I switched to Google Voice. It's badass. In most cases it transcribes your Voicemails to text and let's you listen/delete all of your messages without being forced to listening to a stupid robot lady. Definitely worth trying out.
Thanks I tried calling myself several times left a vm then deleted them and still didn't work. I checked all settings in menu/settings/call hoping to find a clear option and nada, nothing, even looked through Root Explorer but didn't know what half the things were I was looking at.
Maybe I can have T-Mob reset msgs, not sure.
Joy Visial Voicemail is great for checking your VM, don't need toi call in at all
Yes, if all that you tried before didn't work you should call up TMO
Visual Voicemail doesn't work for me because I have an older unlimited plan that was grandfatherered into my current contract. I had it before though, and I still prefer Voice over that.
I love this community, I had the same issue and one search of xda and problem solved.
Thanks guys

Does anyone knows the file name for the factory program that makes the sms popup on the Samsung Vibrant? I want to re-install that program to enable sms alerts when a new text is received. No, I don't want an aftermarket sms popup from a different developer so please don't guide me to an aftermarket one. I just want to revert back to factory sms popup for the sms alerts.
Thank you.
Maybe it's been too long since I've run stock but I don't remember that ever being on here other than 3rd party...
Are you sure the Factory stock Vibrant had an sms popup? I don't ever remember it having this.
I use go sms but there is handcent also both are great

I'm sure the Vibrant has a "factory" sms popup function. Before I rooted my phone, it had the ability to turn the screen on and show the sms envelope alerting me I have a text message or it would show the gmail envelope alerting me I have an email. Since I rooted my phone I have to use 'Glance' app which works pretty much like the factory one (YES, I know, but I want the factory one back). There has to be some file name I can find using 'Explorer' app but I can find it. By they way I've been looking into this on my wife's phone which has not been rooted. I know it's there. If I was able to copy the 'battery charging' sound from her phone to mine, I'm sure I can copy that sms popup file as well. Any clues anyone?
Thanks.
I don't understand why rooting your phone would cause you to lose a feature. It shouldn't and doesn't.
I'm a big fan of the stock Touchwiz, and I never remember any SMS popup.
Are you sure you have a USA T-Mobile Vibrant T959? I can't ever remember anything popping up saying you have an SMS. Are you talking about the notification bar? Or maybe NoLEd app found in the market?

That sounds like you're talking about the notification icon, it should be enabled by default but check the settings in your SMS app, there is an option to enable/disable it.
Ok guys, I guess I was not clear enough on what I was trying to explain. What I mean by sms popup is when you get a text message or email the phone screen turns on for about a minute or so and an icon displays on the top left of the notification bar. If anyone knows how to get this stock feature back on the phone please feel free to share that info. After rooting my phone with Axura ROM I lost that feature and the screen does not turn on anymore. I don't want any aftermarket apps I already have 'Glance' which works fine but once I get the stock one back I will get rid of 'Glance' app. Hope this clarifies confusions.
Thanks
kxlling
I have the settings for sms set already to display notification in status bar but to no avail. Axura ROM took that out.
Have you tried replacing the SMS app with one from another ROM? Or just reinstalling it?
I've never had that issue, but I've never tried axura either...
This may be far fetched, but could the theme you're using be washing it out? I've had it happen before where the theme was the same colors and you couldn't see the notifications.
Sounds like you need the touchwiz mms.apk. The stock Android one doesn't support screen on function. You can pull the file from another ROM and push it through or search the apps section for non-blurry mms by explodingboy. He has the files for both 2.2 and 2.3 roms I believe.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm going to reinstall it and see how it goes. I'm not sure if Axura is washing out the app but I wouldn't doubt it. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks
I already have Glance. This app works just like the one that came with the phone before rooting. Check it out you might like it.
See if you can find a compatible touchwiz app that works with Axura. Barring that, I suggest you either switch back to a Touchwiz enabled ROM, settle for a third party app solution, or try MIUI. MIUI does not have Touchwiz MMS, but it does have the feature of turning the screen on and/or giving notification updates and/or popup updates when you get texts.
Oh, and you can also theme the ever loving crap out of it. And it's generally wonderful.
You're talking about the so called "toast" notification icon on the status bar. Popup is when you get a message and the message itself pops up in a window over your home/lockscreen or whatever app you're running at that time. Anyways, seriously, I know you said you dont want a aftermarket app and I dont know about Glance or why you won't prefer it over your stock sms/mms app but you should consider installing Handcent SMS. Its very custumizable and has that real "popup" feature I was talking about earlier and its just plain way way better than the stock app and I see no reason whatsoever to not use it over your stock app and best of all its FREE!

Thanks everyone for your inputs, I appreciate them. I guess I'll stick with the 'Glance' app, I like the way it works on my phone and I can customize it to however I want.

Thanks. I called and had them remove basic visual voicemail from my account. Its still doing it, but I don't know if their system updates right away. Ill give it til tomorrow.
Ok. I chatted with Verizon a couple of times today and I figured it out. I think basic visual voicemail is required as part of their HD voice service.
Anyway, the VZW tech said that at a minimum, basic visual voicemail needs to remain on the account.
I was able to get the normal voicemail notification back by blocking Basic Visual Voicemail.
On a computer go to My Verizon account;
On the left under Manage My Account click on Block Services ;
Then click on Purchases;
Put a check in the last box called Block Visual Voice Mail and click continue;
On the next window click accept.
That should do it.
