Hi.
Today my Z ultra turned off while on locked screen. When I try to turn it on it is not responding and it do not respond when I connect it to the charger. I have tried to hold the power button and both the volume up and down at the same time, and it came a vibration and the Sony logo showed and it turned off again. Now that won't work either. I also tried to hold power + volume up and power + volume down. Nothing happens. When I connect it to the computer, there are a sound on the computer who tells something is connected. The sound comes again and again, but the phone does not show up on the computer.. What can I do?
Os - Cyanogenmod 11 4.4.4
Edit: I also tried the red button beside the sim-card slot.
Try connecting it to a wall charger, then press the red reset button. leave it to charge for several hours

I tried leaving it in the charger over the night with no success.. When I first connected it, the light turned red and the phone turned on, to the Cyanogenmod logo and turned off again.. Now it won't respond again..
The other thing to try is to see if it will enter flashmode or fastboot
Connect to PC
Hold the vol. up key
Press the hard reset button

I suspect that either the battery or it's controller are dead, can you get warranty on it? They may not take it with not stock firmware on it...
You could try the rubber band trick:
Setup flashtool to flash a FTF
Connect the phone like normal, but have a rubber band around the vol down key.
Leave for <insert_random_large_nubber_here> hours
It may just randomly flash.
The next suggestion is to buy a battery off ebay and replace it your self

Now there are something happening! I left the phone in the charger for 2 days and now the led light started to light up red. Although when I move the phone around, the light becomes weaker/stronger or turns complete off. It still won't boot into fastboot or flashmode and the reset button does not work either..

I have tried pretty much all methods mentioned in search, including:
plug usb in
hold down vol up and down
put battery in
see download screen.
also
just rebooting with vol up and down and power and releasing power as soon as screen goes away.
The way I got here was that odin started flashing firmware and then got locked up at cache.cfs (I think is what it was called).
Please help! Did I just buy a $375 brick??? Thanks!

In my experience I think you had the order of the battery pull method wrong. It makes a difference....try this...
Do this exactly....
- Leave USB Cable plugged into PC, but NOT INTO PHONE...
- pull battery from phone
- hold down VOLUP & VOLDOWN and do not let go
- insert battery...do not let go of VOLUP & VOLDOWN
- insert USB Cable into phone...do not let go of VOLUP & VOLDOWN
So long as nothing is totally bork'd you should see download mode pop up in a few seconds at this point..if so..you can let go now.
Are you using Odin3 v1.00 or v1.30? Depending on your version of Windows, the phases of the moon and all sorts of randomness having v1.0 stall at cache.rfs can be a common occurence.
Try using Odin3 v1.30 located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790026 if you are using v1.00. I've had much better luck with this version on x64 boxes...
If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas...Best of luck
I was using Odin1.0 and I have win7 32bit. I also have a win7 x64 machine if for some reason you think that would make a difference...

The problem here is that I cannot get the charging deal to pop up. It only displays the Phone ! Computer deal.
same problem
I had the same exact issue... it is NOT bricked. I tried probably 120+ times to get into download mode and tried every which way.... just keep trying... i had battery out over night and tried in morning like 20 times and it finally went into download one of the times... it was a breath of fresh air to know that it wasnt bricked...i found out that if its truly bricked it wont boot up to ANYTHING, no hardware button lights or nothing....
just keep trying while holding both vol up and down... it just has to glitch in just right i guess from that screen you are seeing...
Just keep Trying
I just had the same issue that your having and I know what your going through. What just worked for me was this and I found it in the Vibrant Android Development Section under "Think Tank" Accessing Download on Hardware locked phones.
METHOD 3: STUCK AT PHONE ! COMPUTER:
Plug in the USB cable.
Turn the phone on it's side and use both thumbs to hold Vol Up and Vol Down
Press and hold the power button with your right index finger.
The screen will go black, continue holding.
The screen will come back on, you'll see the same Phone to Computer icon
Continue holding, the screen will go black
The screen will come back on, you should see "Vibrant" release the power button and you it should go into Downloading
Hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

Yep, I sat for about 2 hours while my lonely G1 stared at me wanting me to us it again... out of no where, it kicked back into download mode. Stopped on the same issue though, Odin 1.0, cache file.
I've been less scared since that moment and been find getting down dl mode by pulling the battery before plugging into a machine.
Is it really hard to search.. I just asked this question last weekend, It is like one the third or fourth page... Just do what the first guy told you..

- pull battery from phone
- hold down VOLUP & VOLDOWN and do not let go
- insert battery...do not let go of VOLUP & VOLDOWN

Misread this.
When I had that happen, I held down volumes and power either 2 flashes or 3 flashes of the Phone---!---Computer screen.... pretty sure it was 2 and I let go of power for it to kick into download mode... might have been 3 though.

I just contacted samsung and they had me ship it to them. They reflashed it to stock, but I am still unable to get into download mode. I would just say contact them, they had it back to me in 7 days.

Dude your freaking awesome.I was flashing back to stock and my foot pulled out the use cable.I like a well you know pulled out the battery.Cuz of your posted I fix in like two mins.
This morning, my Z ultra died on me. It wont start, no vibration, no use pressing vol + power buttons and the red switch. I was neither rooted or bootloader unlocked.
When I tried to connect it to my laptop (Windows 7), its shows as a USB device. The red LED flashes up, the computer finds it and then lets go of it again. Again in a few minutes, the red LED goes up , the computer makes the connection sound and then the red LED goes off again. This cycle goes on and on.
I cannot use SEUS, Flash, Fastboot or do anything. I have checked various forums and apparently I have not hard bricked the phone as the LED still works and the computer recognizes the problem. But no one has given any concrete solution.
When I connect it to the charger which came with the phone, the red LED pops up and then goes off again. I dont know if its charging. HOWEVER, I have used another Chinese Travel Charger, and then the red LED stays solid as if its charging. I dont know what it means.
Please help. I spent a lot behind this phone. I dont want to be left with a brick
It's not an issue if it's completely stock is it? You have your warranty, but i understand that i sucks to have it shipped in for repairs for god knows how long. I had a similar issue some time ago, but i'm bootloader unlocked and what not, so that was pretty easy to fix. You're completely stock though, so it's a little harder to do anything.
What happens if you hold VOL UP when you connect it to your computer? Does a blue LED light up? If yes, does it stay on, or does it disappear? What happens if you hold VOL DOWN when you connect it to your computer? Do you get a blinking LED and then nothing? That's normal, and it's going into Flashmode. If you can get it to stay in Flashmode you'll be able to re-flash a ROM in Flashtool. But be 100% sure to have enough battery, or else you'll be in danger of hard bricking it.
So..
- Plug the wall charger in and charge it for a couple of hours (2-3 hours)
- Try to kick it into Fastboot (VOL UP when you connect it to your computer). Look for blue LED.
- Try to kick it into Flashmode (VOL DOWN when you connect it yo your computer). No LED.
Hi LordManhattan. I dont have any warranty as I brought it from a local reseller .
Whether I press Vol UP or vom DOWN when I connect to the laptop, a red LED pops up, there is a connection sound and after that the red LED goes off and and there is a disconnection sound.
If I leave the phone connected with the computer, the phone gets connected after 2/3 minutes, there is a connection sound and then there is a disconnection sound again . Any clue what I can do :crying::crying:

just a small note or two:
Flashmode the LED should go orange, then blue then off within about 1second then it is in Flashmode
To get into either of these modes the phone has to be powered fully OFF, press the red reset button before charging to make sure, then again just before the above steps.
It sort of sounds like a corrupted loader

Have a good read of this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170
It would suggest that the battery is flat. Let it charge in the wall plug for a few hours and see what happens
I have let the phone to charge overnight with the charger that came with the phone. As I said before, with that charger, the red LED would turn on and then go off again. I will hopefully try the Chinese travel charger tonight with which the red LED remains solid.
The funny thing is , the phone had about 80% charge when it died. This is so weird :'(

Have you tried the reset button under the microsd flap? Press and hold for 3 secs.
I did read another user had an issue where the screen blanked for around a day, he left it plugged in and came back to it about 6 hours later and it was fine again.

I tried that and basically all the other normal options. No use. The computer recognises it as a USB Input Device and for a second or two, the red LED comes up. Same thing when I am charging

+1 contact your local sony, i had a similar problem, no fastboot/flashmode. locked bl/not rooted and my led only flashed red and occasionally solid red then nothing. plugging it into computer continuously played the disconnecting sound.
most likely hardbricked.
i also purchased my xzu from a local BST but as long as you have your imei, contact sony and theyll tell you if you have warranty. they required me to send in proof of purchase as well but like most say "play stupid" ( i said i received it as a gift and they said it was fine)
i got a brand new XZU after a week and a half sending it in.

Thank you! One or two years ago my Z Ultra's screen cracked and I got a new phone. Decided to use it again, purchased a new screen and replaced it myself today. When I tried to move to AOSP (had root, bootloader unlocked, backup of TA partition), the phone bricked. No SONY logo, nothing. Did what you said above, Xperia Companion recognized the phone in flashmode and is now downloading the newest stock rom. I was so afraid of a hard brick, that living with latest stock without root doesn't seen so bad now hahaha
Hey Friends, I have exactly the same issue. The red led just flashes up for a couple of seconds and this cycle continues. My battery was a bit swollen up and the back glass cover opened up a bit. Still battery was working fine. Two days ago I tried nougat aosp on it and after leaving it idle for 2 hours, it was bricked. I can enter into flashmode and flashed stock LP as well as KK but it does not boots up. Is it definitely battery's problem? If yes, where can I buy original or near original battery for it?

The battery is dangerous and should be removed. Be careful because the battery can burst into flames if the bloated cell get punctured.
Use tools with caution and take your time.
Lipo cells expands as a first safety trigger. Instead of going strait to venting or venting and burst into flames.
Its a safety feature if they are charged with too high current or if the cell is drained below its 2,22 volts and is brought back to life with a normal charger that puts normal current on the cell. Then even 400mA in this scenario is way too much current to start charging a drained cell with.
But the battery should not be the issue that your phone is not booting. How did you flash stock rom? With Flashtool?

Sounds like it could be a corrupt bootloader?
Things to try
Press the red 'off' button beside the sim card, then charge in a A/C charger for several hours, then see if it will power on
Do the above but dont power on. hold down the volume down button while connection to a PC
Do the above but press the 'red off button' while holding the vol - button while connected to the PC
These last two we want the LED to turn blue for 1/2 a sec then go out (Flash Mode)

So what i gonna do?
The only times I've seen a blinking red LED (with and without a cable plugged in), is when there are issues with the bootloader. I've accidentally locked my bootloader while being on a custom kernel a couple of times, and I've gotten this exact behavior.
What was the last thing you did with your Ultra?

Hello guys, it seems I've been a bit stupid and dropped my z2, the phone will no longer boot. I've connected the phone to the wall charger thinking my battery was just dead, as I had left the phone for a while as it had slipped out of my laptop and I thought nothing of it.
The phone will display the sony boot screen however the phone will just restart, I've tried to reset the phone by holding down the power volume down buttons but that doesn't seem to have done anything. I tried the red button where the charger is but that hasn't done anything.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Pineapple

I dropped my Z2 but it was really soft and there is no damage. But phone doesn't work.
I put to charge and open phone see Sony name and see total charge and charging then close.
I push open button and no answer. I push hard reset ( open button and volume ) no answer.
I tried red button and when It is not in charge this button not work but if it is in charge then phone vibrate , see Sony logo , charge and then close again.
I open phone to see if there is no seen damage .
I opened sony compaion and made recovery , it saw phone and made recovery but same problem.
I need some help about this situation.
Thank you.
Hi,
An energy related problem, or the display cable may be loose. When I changed the screen of the phone a year ago, I encountered such an error. I worked for 3 days; but in the end it worked. I don't remember exactly how I did it right now. I looked at many web sites related to the motherboard. It's pretty annoying and challenging.
Bye.

It seems the flat cable is broken that connects to power and volume buttons.
You can check it under the battery and see if it's cut at the edge of the frame.

ok but if only this cable broken , I should open phone with red button, right ?
But with red button, I only see sony logo in charge and then turn off again.

The red button is for force shutting down the phone. You only see sony logo then charging on screen only if you plug the charger. Try fastboot to turn on your device by writing this command:
fastboot reboot
I assumed you know how to enter fastboot.
