Since updating to 2.1 I've had a few issues with the stock messenger.....a few times I've had send failed messages, then the recipient got the same text several times (lol) and lately I haven't been getting any notification of new texts until I actually open the messenger.
Is there something I can do to resolve this???
btw, I've looked for the stock 2.1 messenger apk around here, but I can't find it....can someone please provide me with a link

Are you AT&T? If so, I had the same problem, especially with long text and MMS sending pics. I believe it was a problem within the APN. I don't know exactly how, but now I have 2 APN'S and the problem seems to be solved. I have MEdia Net and MEdia Net MMS, which is the AT&T brand name for their browser/network. I have tested the every APN setting posted in the forums, and they are the only ones that deliver large pics and 4page texts consistantly. If you need the settings, post here.

yeah, I am using AT&T....that is actually part of my issue, and the other part is that the notification doesn't show up sometimes until I actually open the messenger.
I've downloaded handcent, and re-installed conversations.apk (the 2.1 messenger) just in case, and so far so good, but I haven't tried a really long text or large pic yet...I'll do that and see what happens

We have discussed the task killer apps extensively here. And the consensus seems to be that they actually cause more harm than good.

Agreed if you just installed and use default settings, but if you take the time to hand set it up, it is a really useful app. Especially kill when screen off saves battery and data. I find I still have 30% battery on day 2 without charging. Without it my battery last 1 day max. If task killer effects an app/phone performance, then set it to ignore. No reason not to use it at all. Without it most apps with permissions would run continuously.

My battery is at 62% after more than 48 hours since unplugging it. I am an average user as I browse, text, calls...etc very frequently. I do not use ATK or juice defender anymore as I did not find any difference.

I probably use my phone a lot more than the average person. I run my own business with my phone when I am out of the office, not to mention my new addiction to the xda app.
I check my ATK frequently because every day is a balancing act of battery vs usage. After using my browser for 30 minutes, I can't believe how many of my installed apps are running for no reason...the list is 2 screens long sometimes.
Without ATK I wouldn't have any way to free up my system?? Are you saying apps running in background or when screen off is better than using ATK?? Hard for me to believe, but you haven't mislead me yet, Batman. I'll give it a try and report back.

Even if you see a long list of apps, sometimes it is not the whole app that is running but only part of it for a while to do a certain task. Android then terminates them when they are idle for a period of time. I also have my brightness set on the lowest setting and only switch on WiFi/3G when I use them. You can download toggle widgets (e.g. APNdroid) from the market to make it easier to toggle these settings.
Also, if you have weak 3G coverage in your area, then that also drains the battery as the phone is constantly searching for the 3G network. Therefore, sometimes I switch my network mode to only 2G (or GSM only) networks rather than GSM/WCDMA preferred.
In conclusion, there are many factors that contribute to how fast your battery is drained, and apps running in the background is certainly one of them but, definitely not the only reason.
Let us know how it goes

Back in topic.. did you resolve your messaging problems? If so, what was your solution? I'm interested in hearing if you tried pics or long messages yet too?

My solution is handcent It's much better for me than the stock app. The stock app is working, though. I tried mms & sms....both are fine. I found the custom vibrate feature in handcent and now I can actually feel it vibrate when I get a text because it stays on for a full second!!!

Hello,
First of all i want to apologize for my bad English is not my native language but I'll try to explain as best as i can.
Well i just found out my clock (time not processor clock) goes faster. No ideea if is only my phone or is a firmware problem. In like 2 days i get 1 minute + to time with or without network synchronization.
I set my time let's say today from my computer at second precision and in 2 days i get +1 minute at least on my lg device.
I use v10n firmware not to many installed applications (I am sure applications have nothing to do with my problem) and if u guys need more information let me know, I'll be around.
Anyone have same problem?
Someone shod make this stiky since untill now every single LG P500 have this clock problem.
Yes.
I have to adjust the time on my phone every few days, because it goes faster like you said, around one minute every 2 or 3 days. I'm on v10b or whatever firmware version is void #alpha based on.
I think we can say this phone "is ahead of its time".
Kudos to you guys for noticing this xD Never new this problem existed or something, since I have mine automatically synchronize once I connect to the net.
I'm on a different ROM, so that may also be a reason why I don't see it.
I have same problem (but only about 10 or 20 sec during 3-5 days). I solve this with help of app called ClockSync with auto synchronization enabled.
Yep this is annoying relay i think i will write LG support for this. Tbh never meet someone with P500 not to have this problem.
And one more thing any application to sync clock witch doesn't require root?

Some operators provides sync service via their GSM network.
Anyway I didn't find sync app which can synch time without root.
It happens to me too. The clock adds 20-30 secs every 3-4 days. Very annoying since I can't count on the clock. I can point you similar problem - the GPS. After I use it 4-5 times it doesn't locate me anymore 'till I reboot the phone. After reboot I localises me immediately.

I have the problem too. But my phone is just "in company"- I have many devices with bad "real" time clocks. My opinion: the 32.768kHz clock crystals nowadays are totally crap
But if I tell android to sync automatically it does not sync at all although the first time I "fired the phone up" it worked...
I turned on autosync - it does not help.

It seems to freeze up a lot. I will select apps and they do nothing, same with downloads from the market. They just hang at showing them as downloading.
I use SPB Shell and sometimes when it does this it will also stick between pages rather than just flinging to the next it will actually just stop in between pages until you continue to scroll though.
When I select links to open, it does nothing until I actually open the browser. I have only had the phone for a few days and it worked fine, now its doing all these weird things.
Anyone got any suggestions or ideas, let me know otherwise I'm afraid I may be taking it back...
Something may be wrong with the phone. I haven't experienced none of that. Even out the box. Actually its been so fast for me that if I experience the littlest bit of lag it drives me nuts. Might be hard ware related.

LOL dude you have the data guard enabled. There is a setting in their that holds downloads and other things in a queue until you are using WiFi in order to save battery. Just disable that and you'll be on your way And the SPB Mobile Shell problem is probably a problem with the app. Contact the developer and tell them about it. There aren't many nVidia Tegra 2 phones out there so it's not very likely they have done much testing on the architecture. Also, what kind of links are you talking about? Like a link you receive in a text message?

Yeah it really sounds like you have Data Saver enabled which is located under Battery & data manager in the phone settings. If not you may want to exchange the phone as faulty. I have a lot of issues which my Photon: stuttering during music playback, random reboots (twice in 2 weeks so far), and feedback when using the audio out (buzzing / static). These seem to be common problems but the performance issues you are mentioning do not seem normal from what I have read in these forums.

No problems like that with SPB Shell here. Check the data saver mode. You can also try changing the vm heap to 48 or 64. Mine is on 64 but never had an issue with the stock setting either.
Update...
It does appear that it was SPB Shell which sucks because I was really liking it. I will send a message to the dev and see what happens. The funny thing is that is was working great the first few days that I was using it and then started acting up which was why I didn't thing it was SPB

How do you get it that high? I am using VM Heap Tool and the highest it will let me check is 48.
It's not data saver. Or it shouldn't be. It's an Android flaw.
I've had an Incredible, Thunderbolt and then Photon. Which means I've used a few Android phones over a couple of networks (more if you consider the 4G's as their own networks).
99% of the time my phones work fine. Every so often it will stall downloading an app, or an email will just sit on sending for a longggg time. Unless I am recreating the same conditions over three phones and two networks I think this just happens every once and a while.

I'm glad you found the issue, this right here always tells me it was something you installed that caused the problem. When it worked fine out of the box and then....
Just watch what you install, install one app at a time and see how it flows for awhile after each app. Yes, it may take awhile to get all your apps on but you will know what apps are causing you issues! Like a previous poster said, there aren't many T2 phones, so just be careful what you install!
Glad you found the problem!

I was wondering if I modified the Limit background processes setting (which is found under "settings > developer options", would it help or hurt anything? I am not sure how the different options may effect the regular performance/battery of the phone. Any insight would be great, thanks!

Yeah I do the same, but wondering if I I set it to 0 if that would cause any issues. I know when I clear RAM sometimes it would close up to 10+ or more and I'm confused as to why it had that many since I usually close everything and exit. Basically, I'm not sure what essential things may be running that this setting would effect?
No matter how many processes or apps you think you close by doing stock memory clean, they will come back shortly. The only way to make sure they stay innactive is to disabled them at start-up, just like in Windows or any Linux version. You choose which ones u want at start-up. I use Rom Toolbox by JRummy for that. You can easily control many things with that app. As for which ones are essential or not, it totally depends on what u do with the phone (ur personal use). Try and see what depends on what when u close things. That's the only way)) we all walk through that at some point!

Hi there
I'm not an app developer, but I was frustrated with "obligatory €25 donation" and all the ads, just to activate other 3 cores on some G4's. So, here is the result of my frustration. Simple app, not too pretty, but gets the job done.
If you have G4 that after using Big Core Disable got only 1 core active, this app is for you. It has only one switch, and one function, to activate all 4 cores. Nothing else is there, nothing alse will be added (except changing theme and maybe some minor tweaks)...
Of course, ROOT is needed
ToDo:
* Create App Icon (this one is borrowed)
* Change App Theme
* Add some notification on boot, to show the user if 1 or 4 cores are active
* Slow activating 4 cores after rebooting, will look into it
* You tell me
Version 1.1
- Greatly optimized app size (now only ~500kb, was over 10mb)
- Optimized app opening speed
- Some minor modifications
- A lot of work still has to be done
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0...=sharing&resourcekey=0-Wqgbdl-MpPvXwbP9hEKc0g
EDIT: Updated app link, as old one wasn't working. As always, feel free to donate ;-)
Thanks for that.

Yup, it reads it own file, and default is that one core is activated. I didn't take in consideration that someone could install the app even if it already has 4 cores enabled, my bad . Anyway, if you click enable and than disable, it will disable cores, and after that it would work as it should.
Thanks for reporting, will fix that in the next version, for sure

Now I am confused. Not with my app, as I said, when I wrote it I did it like that so the app on first run guesses that only 1 core is active (that's why you need the app). So, if you have 4 cores active, and open my app for the first time, it will say that one core is active. When you click the button, it will say 4 cores are active, and nothing will change, as you already had 4 cores activated. But, if you click the button again, it will then disable 3 cores and and say 1 core is active.
What confuses me is why droid info said only 1 core? Are you sure you had 4 cores activated? Or maybe you had disabled cores with my app, by clicking enable 4 cores, and than clicking the button again to disable them?

i was confused too

Thanks. My G4 is laggy (?) so I may have a core problem. I'll give it a try.
What is the 'apply on boot' timings on newer version? I think it should be set to instant (least delay).
Using latest version of it and it's running great. Apply on boot settings seems to be working better than previous version.
I'm working on instant applying, but as I said, I'm not a developer, so I'm still learning... I know there's a way for it to be instant, I just have to find it ?
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
Thanks for the app. I'm going to try this. Before I was manually doing it by opening root explorer and going into the folder and manually changing the online file, now with this app, it should be a lot easier.
Hi...
You just need to edit the file in: /system/etc/init.qcom.post_boot.sh
Edit the LAST LINE of the file, thats starts with g4ilapofix=true:
g4ilapofix=true; if $g4ilapofix......
Change it to:
g4ilapofix=true;
if $g4ilapofix;
then
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/online;
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online;
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/online;
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/online;
fi;
And you are done. Never again you will need to do something after reboot.
I'm now trying to edit the TOT files, so this is removed from the MOD and all 4 cores be active since the first boot. Which is how it should be.
I think it is absurd to FORCE everyone to pay 25 USD. A donation should never be forced.
XDA exists because people wanted to help others, for free, not to gain money over other people. Donations are always apreciated, but should not be mandatory.
@santroph
Guess you're talking about other app, not mine. Mine is free, not $25.
And you can't modify tot file, because it will not be signed after that, and that lines aren't inserted in the tot file. The lines you are referring to are inserted after you install g4ilapofix app, not after flashing tot file. TOT file is LG's signed file, so no "g4ilapofix" there, for sure... Again, not my app, my app is free for use...

I was not talking about your app. For sure
I was taking about the other app from the other dev. It inserts those lines and it simply blocks any new app from beeing able to have all 4 cores enabled at boot.
So, if someone installed the app trying to have all 4 core enabled like the dev says (but never state that you will have to pay 25 USD for it), the user is now blocked to have all 4 cores enabled at boot.
Sorry for the missunderstanding.
