Download the factory image. Extract it using 7-zip or winrar. Inside is a zip file, extract that too. In there you'll find recovery.img. Flash that in fastboot, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.

Ok that makes a lot of sense I'll do that!

if your trying to take the OTA then you probably wont be able too if you *had* twrp installed
i wasnt able to take OTA at all, it kept failing(on stock recovery) saying that the system partition was mounted as R/W and had to be remounted but no matter i tried i couldnt get it to remount
What i ended up doing was downloading the latest update from the google page
but the .bat script is broken so i needed to do
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
to the files inside the .img file inside the update
it took me two days to figure this out so hopefully i helped you out(if you needed it)
Thank you! This helped me with a completely unrelated issue! Why do google provide a broken installer?!?!?!

That's because the new hboot cannot flash kernels. Easiest method is to download flashgui from the market which will flash the kernel for you.
Thanks for the quick response... so all i need to do is download the app flash a kernel and then flash the rom through twrp???

Awesome!
I'm having the same problem, except I've already wiped my rom so I can't load anything up to go into the market. what should I do? I'm on Hboot 2.09, I've got twrp 2.4.4.0 on there.

Do you have ADB set up on your computer?
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

Download a rom to your computer. Place the rom.zip in the folder where you have adb. Also, extract the boot.img in the same folder. Open adb on your computer using command line and boot into fastboot on your phone. Use the cd command to change folders to wherever your adb is located and type adb devices to make sure you are connected. Then type fastboot flash boot boot.img. Once you do that you can push the rom zip using a different command that I forget. Even better than reading my response, search Google for "flash boot rom fastboot evo 4G lte" there's an xda thread that walks you through it.

Okay, so yesterday I was flashing from SlimBean to stock 4.3 on my Nexus 7. Okay, good no problem. After that I was using WugFresh's toolkit to update from 4.3-4.4 since my bootloader is unlocked and it wouldn't take the OTA. The cmd prompt said something akin to:
boot.sig not in archive
Recover.sig not in archive
And then it froze, for a bit before giving me the end message about the first reboot taking 5-10 minutes. OK, cool. I was still in fastboot mode, so I went ahead and volume upped to start. The Google image flashed, along with the unlock symbol, and in very tiny text at the top right says Booting Failed.... On the same screen off to the right is the arrow that says start, just like in bootloader. I'm freaking out because this is basically brand new, and I don't wanna NAFTA buy another.
Oh, and it's the 2012 Grouper/Nasaki WiFi only model.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Just boot back to bootloader and flash a custom recovery through fastboot
Then boot back to this recovery and flash ROM of choice
If you want to go back to stock fully then drop the tool kits and just flash stock and relock bootloader

Alright I did that, erasing the non existent recovery as well. Now when I try to boot, its stuck at the Google logo. When I enter bootloader and select reboot recovery, it just goes to the screen with Google logo and the fastboot arrow

So through fastboot you ran
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
And output said OK to both and the recovery you used was for grouper correct? The md5sum checked out right?
If so you may need to flash a factory image from google
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
This time
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot update nameofupdate.zip
Oh and you may need to relock bootloader before update

Alright, so after i flashed the recovery, I attempted to boot into recovery. I am stuck at the google logo. But let me try the rest of the commands you gave me really quick.
Oh, and when I downloaded the factory image, I got a .tgz file, not a zip.

So the recovery.img you are flashing through fastboot says it worked but when you boot to it you get nothing? Is this correct? What recovery image are you flashing?
Can you try
fastboot boot recovery.img

Alright, I figured it out. The recovery was flashing right, but the file I had wouldn't stick for some reason. So I found the grouper TWRP .IMG file, flashed it, and it stayed. After that, it was as simple as pushing the file and flashing it all. Thank you so much for all of your help in this matter. Hope to see ya around the forums!!!

Is there a stock boot.img file available? I stupidly flashed the twrp file over my boot instead of recovery and am having obvious issues now. I see the thread with a twrp backup of boot+ everything else, but I would need to flash with fastboot I'm guessing.
I was able to use a backup from another thread and restore in twrp. I get messages in the boot loader now about missing some gift files? Nothing seems impacted tho

hi guys. erroneally I bricked my phone. Actualy I have twrp, unlocked bootloader, s-ON, and no system folder, so the device doesn't start. I only can enter the bootloader, fastboot and twrp. I tried flashing a ROM using twrp but seems that s-on doesn't allow to write on root folder ( / ). How can I do? There is a method to flash the system folder via fastboot? thanks
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
system.img is an image of the system partition, like recovery.img and boot.img.
thanks. Where can I find a system.img for KK ? In this forum I only found a whole OTA update with recovery.img, boot.img but no system.img (only system folder)

I also tried to flash an update.zip from recovery ( twrp) but it didn't work: the recovery could not mount the system , data and cache partition..

i think you need to update your hboot before installing KK.
Cant remember where to do that though...
Did you try using this:

and follow the instructions correctly?

I didn't find a guide for that. However I formatted system, data and cache and so I was able to flash /system folder via twrp. But the problem remains: the device stacks on HTC logo...

You're Zara UL right? Have you tried just installing a zip through TWRP. You might be able to install ht tps://drive.google.co m/folderview?id=0B6WBFlAKqe30a2ktU3ZEaUUzSTg&tid=0B6WBFlAKqe30TjRLa2Qxa0toYlU but I'm not 100% on that one since I have a ZARA CL device. This rom is for Zara UL just so you know.
Note:Take out the spaces in the link.
If anyone can help. i need to know how to make a copy of my phones stock recovery before flashing a custom recovery. so i can flash back to stock recovery in order to an OTA update.
Thanks

If you are rooted already with a stock recovery, skip to the second half of the next paragraph.
What you want to do is boot twrp instead of flashing it at first. You do this by using the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" where as "recovery.img" is the name you have assigned to your twrp recovery image. Once you have booted into twrp, reboot system. You will be prompted to root the device (assuming you are not already rooted), select yes. Now that you are rooted, download this app. In the app settings change the backup format to .img, and then backup your recovery. Now you will have a copy of your stock recovery. Now that you have that, go back and flash twrp using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", whereas "recovery.img" refers to whatever you have named your twrp recovery image.
all of this is assuming that you have adb setup on your computer, and a good working knowledge of how to use it.
What if I'm already rooted with twrp recovery, is it still possible?

You still have stock recovery? If so, it sounded like you did fastboot boot TWRP (instead of fastboot flash TWRP).
In which case, you can just then use TWRP to backup the recovery partition. You don't need a seperate app or root to do this.
I flashed twrp using fastboot flash recovery twrp but I'm still using the stock rom, but since I flashed twrp that means my stock recovery img is gone right?

Yes, you can only have one recovery at a time. TWRP custom recovery overwrote the stock recovery. You can't back up what isn't there anymore.
But you can always return to stock by RUU, if needed.
