hi guys. erroneally I bricked my phone. Actualy I have twrp, unlocked bootloader, s-ON, and no system folder, so the device doesn't start. I only can enter the bootloader, fastboot and twrp. I tried flashing a ROM using twrp but seems that s-on doesn't allow to write on root folder ( / ). How can I do? There is a method to flash the system folder via fastboot? thanks
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
system.img is an image of the system partition, like recovery.img and boot.img.
thanks. Where can I find a system.img for KK ? In this forum I only found a whole OTA update with recovery.img, boot.img but no system.img (only system folder)

I also tried to flash an update.zip from recovery ( twrp) but it didn't work: the recovery could not mount the system , data and cache partition..

i think you need to update your hboot before installing KK.
Cant remember where to do that though...
Did you try using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-601/development/collection-kitkat-ota-firmware-t2825216
and follow the instructions correctly?

I didn't find a guide for that. However I formatted system, data and cache and so I was able to flash /system folder via twrp. But the problem remains: the device stacks on HTC logo...

You're Zara UL right? Have you tried just installing a zip through TWRP. You might be able to install ht tps://drive.google.co m/folderview?id=0B6WBFlAKqe30a2ktU3ZEaUUzSTg&tid=0B6WBFlAKqe30TjRLa2Qxa0toYlU but I'm not 100% on that one since I have a ZARA CL device. This rom is for Zara UL just so you know.

Hi guys.
I'm on JB STOCK, Stock recovery and Stock boot.
I want to create a backup of Stock recovery before i flash my TWRP-JB to take Stock NAND backup.
I searched and found a command to run recovery without flashing it to recovery partition.
fastboot boot recovery recovery.img <- my custom recovery. Then use either ADB or recovery itself to take a backup.
Will it work??

But the method that extracts kernel from partition and makes img file doesn't work also with recovery partition?
I mean the dd command from adb.

Bro, to take backup of the stock recovery.. u just booted the custom recovery using 'fastboot boot customrecovery.img' & took a nandroid? or any other command? specifically for backingup the stock recovery..?
That command boots the phone with the selected img , without actually flashing the img , by temporarely downloading the img into the phone memory and booting it from there .
This way , you could boot the phone into a custom recovery while having the stock recovery flashed , and then backup the unharmed stock recovery from that custom recovery .
TWRP can backup both the boot and the recovery partitions if I'm not mistaking . Just choose "Backup" and you'll be prompted with a list of partitions you can backup

Lots of info over here, to read for yourself. For a backup: install a recovery. After that: push the button 'backup'

Download the factory image. Extract it using 7-zip or winrar. Inside is a zip file, extract that too. In there you'll find recovery.img. Flash that in fastboot, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.

if your trying to take the OTA then you probably wont be able too if you *had* twrp installed
i wasnt able to take OTA at all, it kept failing(on stock recovery) saying that the system partition was mounted as R/W and had to be remounted but no matter i tried i couldnt get it to remount
What i ended up doing was downloading the latest update from the google page
but the .bat script is broken so i needed to do
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
to the files inside the .img file inside the update
it took me two days to figure this out so hopefully i helped you out(if you needed it)
Thank you! This helped me with a completely unrelated issue! Why do google provide a broken installer?!?!?!
S-on users will need to relock/lock bootloader before flashing.
S-off users can simply flash using either method below. I also have included an S-off only option which i removed the boot and recovery img from (perfect for users on custom roms who only want to update firmware)
Option 1) Use fastboot to flash
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ATT444firmware.zip
*** If any message appears about reflush and flash run above command again ***
fastboot reboot-bootloader
**** this firmware has both stock boot and recovery so flash your custom rom's kernel and/or your custom recovery NOW before rebooting****
Option 2)
Rename zip file to 0P6BIMG.zip and place on your external SD card. Reboot to hboot and allow bootloader to update/flash
Download Links Do NOT mirror these elsewhere.

i did option 2 and it goes thru the phase in bootloader, and when it boots i hear the boot up sound but stays on the HTC screen, but i can hit the vol up and i can hear the sound like it did a reboot but its stuck on the HTC screen. any ideas?
I think you will need to reflash your ROM as dottat did not specify if he had made the package for s-off not to wipe. Generally during firmware update, it will wipe clean the phone to reset partitions, I am assuming. If you come from gpe firmware, best to reflash because gpe and sense have different partitioning.
Hold power+vol up to force shut down then use power+vol down to get to bootloader and enter your custom recovery from there.

Firmware won't wipe.
That said I believe by second option he meant SD card method. If he's s on he will likely need to reflash his roms kernel (boot.Img) via fastboot after unlocking again.
@hauntyu
Just pull the boot.img out of the zip of the rom you were running and flash that in fastboot mode after you unlock your bootloader again.
Which method would I use to flash the ruu or download because Im gpe and it says when I run the ruu its the wrong image.

You have to flash stock 4.4.4 recovery and then relock. Then you can either download it from the other thread where it's posted and manually flash it in recovery or do it the regular way through update.

I'm trying to get back to stock, but I'm S-On. Every thread I've seen (including this one) requires S-Off and I can't find instructions on how to relock the bootloader from S-On.
As I posted elsewhere, I've tried to run SunShine, but it won't work with LiquidSmooth. The couple of "stockish" ROMS I've flashed haven't worked and I've had to reflash my backup.

Flash a stockish Rom and then separately flash the stock boot.img from the 4.4.4 firmware zip. Sunshine will fail on any Rom that uses a non stock kernel. Even debug turned on in kernel will cause it to fail.
OK so then it should go something like this..
1. Connect phone to PC.
2. Move recovery file you linked to my android folder on PC where my fastboot files are.
3. fastboot flash stock recovery
4. fastboot oem lock
5. Reboot
6. Take ota.

That looks ok. Once booted up backup internal and stuff because when you reunlock you will get wiped again.
Google just released the M preview for the Nexus 6 and I see some guys having some issues with flashing the preview, So what I did is just modify on the kernel not to encrypt the device during the first boot
and here is the simplest way to flash the preview
1-Download the preview factory image http://developer.android.com/preview/download.html
2-download this modified version of the stock M boot img https://goo.gl/SFWpMO
3-unpack the M preview .tgz file in your fastboot/adb folder and you will get the radio file and the bootloader file and the image-shamu-MPZ44Q.zip file
4-go to TWRP backup your ROM then wipe cache/dalvic/data/system ( watch out don't wipe the internal storage)
5-boot into bootloader and flash the bootloader : fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.11.img
6-fastboot reboot-bootloader
7-flash the radio file : fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-D4.01-9625-05.16+FSG-9625-02.94.img
8-fastboot reboot-bootloader
9-Unpack the image-shamu-MPZ44Q.zip file
10-you need just system.img from this file
11-flash the system : fastboot flash system system.img
12-flash the modified boot img that you downloaded in step 2 : fastboot flash boot boot-noencryption.img/B]
13-fastboot reboot
You also use NRT for flashing the M Preview if you prefer but flash the noencrption boot img instead of the stock img in order to avoid encrypting your device
It won't take time to boot but it's really important to wipe from twrp before flashing and as always try this on your own risk
Can't wait to flash thanks!!

If you are rooted already with a stock recovery, skip to the second half of the next paragraph.
What you want to do is boot twrp instead of flashing it at first. You do this by using the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" where as "recovery.img" is the name you have assigned to your twrp recovery image. Once you have booted into twrp, reboot system. You will be prompted to root the device (assuming you are not already rooted), select yes. Now that you are rooted, download this app. In the app settings change the backup format to .img, and then backup your recovery. Now you will have a copy of your stock recovery. Now that you have that, go back and flash twrp using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", whereas "recovery.img" refers to whatever you have named your twrp recovery image.
all of this is assuming that you have adb setup on your computer, and a good working knowledge of how to use it.
What if I'm already rooted with twrp recovery, is it still possible?

You still have stock recovery? If so, it sounded like you did fastboot boot TWRP (instead of fastboot flash TWRP).
In which case, you can just then use TWRP to backup the recovery partition. You don't need a seperate app or root to do this.
I flashed twrp using fastboot flash recovery twrp but I'm still using the stock rom, but since I flashed twrp that means my stock recovery img is gone right?

Yes, you can only have one recovery at a time. TWRP custom recovery overwrote the stock recovery. You can't back up what isn't there anymore.
But you can always return to stock by RUU, if needed.
