Hi guys,
A friend of mine have an S3. Few month ago, some girl vomited (I am not joking ahah) on his phone and the sound from speakers became really bad. The mic sound was also really bad. We decided to change only the speaker so we bought it online. Surprise: even with the new speaker the sound is really bad ! There is also some surprise...the mic is dead for no reason ! We tried many app like Sound Record and tried to record but it doesn't work. During the call the problem is the same ! The mic seems definitely dead.
Do you know what is the problem ? Do you have any idea ?
Many thanks and happy new year

Is the mic hole clean?
How long did he wait to clean it after? It could have shorted something inside like when it gets water in it.
The mic hole is clean. The mic was really bad nevertheless people can heard during the call. We just changed the loudspeaker and since the mic didn't work. I can't see the reason of this. There is no link between the loudspeker and main mic.
Did someone of you replace your mic in the past ? It seems not easy.

hi all, sorry if wrong place. but here goes.
just wondered is there anyway to replace to internal speaker, one of them have blown n making a crappy crackling noise

Yes you can replace them by your self but then you will lose your warranty, there are replacment speakers at ebay:

cool, ive ordered them
any idea how to change them? lol
and for now any way to disable the speaker from playing anything?

The blown speaker was really bugging me last night, so I gave the back of the unit a sharp tap over that speaker. After a few crackles, that speaker just stopped working. Not sure if that means its just a loose connection, but at least the (mono) sound is clear for now....
I have the same problem:
Sometimes the left speakers seams to not handle a specific sound.
I want to change my speakers, too.
But is it possible to insert better speakers?
I want a better quality...
Had the same problem but i fixed mine by myself, had a broken cellphone (china made phone) it had the same size as the archos i just remved the busted ones tape the wires and put it all back together now it works fine

I just bought s3 recently and have faced mic issues, its not able to pick up voice easily, have to use the other hand to cover my mouth and phone for it to be able to catch my voice!!
I am going through mic issues.
I had a mic problem with my first S3 during phone calls. I couldn't do anything about it everyone was saying they couldn't hear me.
(The sim I am using is an British UK O2 micro simcard that I used in a iphone 4, cheap samsung, and samsung S2 previously with no problems at all.)
I then returned the phone to the T-mobile shop retailers, they said it was rare and not a common fault.
My new one is doing the exact same thing, I didn't update it nor is there a new update.
Can someone please help as I am lost. Thank you.

s3 mic problem
im having same problems n im on my third 1, all with the same problems. just been through all setting n nothing, waiting to hear back from my network provider (3). good phone but really annoyed with this problem now, everything is ok i put on loud speaker but this is no use when im tryin to run a business.......
I thought I was the only one facing the issue . The handsfree using the wired headset is completely faulty and the other party can hardly hear you . However sometime it works.
I tried some options ..
1. Dont insert the wired headset in the middle of the call it wont work.
2. Insert the wired headset and then dial the number - this seems to work most of the times
3. Accepting the call while the wired headset is inserted - this seems to work.
Not sure what the solution is - anyone able to resolve it ?
not the best voice receptions by the mic....but i havent got any complaints from the receiving end...and audio recording not great but better than the s2..used both the phones for quiet long
I have same issue. Other party doesn't hear me most of the times clearly. They say that I sound like i'm using speaker mode and I'm walking in the room with bucket in my head.
I used some kind of phonecall recording app and from there I can hear myself quite clearly. Maybe it is related to service provider?
Now switched to gsm mode only to see does it make difference.

Seems like noice cancellation needs to be disabled. Worked for me :good:
Try turning noise reduction off , in the call settings section

I am not rooted.... Does this affect?
mic problem in S3
M also having t same problem...hav done all the ways explained above...but still in trouble....sometimes mic works great but sometimes it dont...
microphooooone hole
I have a solution guys. Use left hand when phone call or grab it just for upper part. You are covering small hole for microphone.
I have like 1phone/year and never happened to me that i cover microphone hole when calling. With this one I have to stay focused to dont cover.... Its getting better but samsung engineers terribly overlooked this.
I phone like 4-5 hours per day, so i have habit to let phone just touch my hand and pretty much dont hold it at all. But when you hold it right hand your below thumb area of hand get to cover microphone hole....
and this is when someone else looses my voice over phone....
There is a microphone at the bottom and one at the top. How are you holding your phone? No matter what I do, I can't cover them up during a call.

Same here, cannot uncheck 'noise cancellation'
Wired headset only works when call made first, then audio plug inserted, even with BT disabled.
Multiple headsets mics not working that are known good headsets tested on other phones.

I have played with recording a bit lately (due to another issue of noise in audio recording) and I found that the upper microphone is disabled during a call from some reason. It is used in other video/audio recording though.

if I'm not mistaken the upper mic is working solo when ur on speaker during a call.
when u use the ear peace the buttom one is the main one and the upper one is for noise cancelation.

I only tried on speaker and the upper mic was definitely not catching anything - if I placed my hand over the bottom one, there was no sound from my side, even when I was talking directly to the upper mic.
Not sure whether it is a feature or a bug (there were some reports that the mics are switched by mistake on the software level) but if it is a feature then it is rather unfortunate one as it is quite common to hold the phone at its bottom.

You right, thats the reason for upper microphone - do compare signals from lower ant top, and eliminates noise (that coming more from top) from voice (that coming much more from low)
Other reason probably is stereo sound when making video...
PS
Comon guys, it is almost impossible to hide microphone with hand, left or right - does not matter. You should have palm from soft material as balloon to hide it Otherwise it is hardly possible by mistake, even if you try it is hard to do it
Hello,
Here is my problem: Suddenly for no reason at all, the R earbud stopped working. My thought was: "Oh well, it happens with earphones", after that i bought some earphones without microphone which had much more clearer sound, and both of earbuds (R&L) worked well, untill few days ago, suddenly the right one (R), drop dead. I thought that it was again earphone problem, but I've tried to put them to my laptop, stereo, etc. and they worked just fine. So, I thought:"It must be audio jack problem". And it was, because now only left one works, and I must twist earphone plug in a strange way for both of earbuds to work but it is impossible to me to hold them all the time like that.
My brother has also galaxy S3, so I borrowed his original Samsung earphones and I didn't have to twist them or bend them. They just worked fine, both of earbuds. So I've done some searching over the internet and I've learned that it could be some contact problem in jack, that one contact is loose. My question is, how to fix that fast and cheap, because I'm cheap and lazy bastard. I would like to know if there is any solution to my problem so i won't have to go to Samsung service. I've seen that there are replacement parts for audio jack + speaker on eBay, any experiences with that?
Best regards!
Hi I have recently come into owning a AT&T ni717, now the charger port is a bit iffy and does need replacing.
But when i have a normal call, the microphone doesnt work so they cant here me speaking, unless i go to loud speaker.
but if i place my mouth around the little hole and speak they can here me, its weired because
i tried sound recorder and it seems to work fine, just not in call???
Has anyone experincd this and been and been able to solve it?

after getting the Moto E 2015 i was searching for the mic because my friend said she couldn't hear me properly during calls. I found there is a mic near camera and the mic for call is located in the back bottom of the device.
The problem is that by mistake i have kept my hand blocking the mic If you face similar problem try to hold the phone on top and give some grip during calls. Was little weird for me at first now it is normal for me.
Having call volume {75%} during calls is good than having full volume.
[Q] Anybody facing similar problem with mic? Let us know if this helped you.
{ the mic must be kept behind due to water proof splash perfection i guess }
Another Solution Found
Put a insulation tape ( cut it very small ) to cover the mic near the rear camera. :good: This improves the call quality and also the noise cancellation feature is disabled ( many users don't like this feature ).
Hope this solution helps many who own a MOTO E 2015
I found the normal way I hold the phone with the phone cupped in the palm of my hand makes the sound for the other person low and a bit distant/garbled, but if I hold the phone with my hand at the bottom with my palm cupping the bottom to make a sort of funnel, it really improves the quality. Strange to me that Moto put the main mic on the back instead of the front. I tend to hold the phone angled away from my mouth with only the earpiece against my face/ear which makes the mic even that much more away from my mouth.
lol.. yeah i tried it

My wife just got this phone and is having problems with the clarity that it is having. People on the receiving end from her get an echo effect and vox type sounds. Is this just a problem with holding the phone or has there been any issues with software/hardware?

I'm pretty sure it's because the mic is on the back. Mine sounds the same if I don't cup the bottom with my hand. Now if know I'm going to be on a call I use a headset. But for those unexpected calls I just cup the bottom, and it sounds good.

Yes, this phone has faulty mic design
I also have the same problem. 5 out of 10 people who receive my call complain that they can't hear my voice. Mic is placed on the back side and that is the reason why all these voice clarity problems. If you sit directly under a ceiling fan or if there is wind blowing across, the air that enters the wedge near the mic makes your voice not audible. You need to cup the phone if you want to make your voice audible.
external speakers doesnt working.....no sound....
If i play a song or play a video there are no sound output by speakers....same problem during call...wipe cache partition....tried in safe mode......reboot.....remove sd card...but problem persists....no sound in speakers....pls help

Hello, I want to purchase a Moto E 2015 but I also heard about the microphone problem that the phone comes with.
I wanted to make sure that if I cover the back mic with a piece of tape, it would fix this issue? Please let me know and confirm.
If you found another fix for this issue, please let me know thank you very much
I had the exact same issues with my Moto E 2nd Gen (Sprint Prepaid). Putting tape over the hole next to the camera definitely fixed the issue for me. People I call tell me they can now hear me just fine and my voice isn't garbled, breaking up, etc.
Just a side note: before I found this thread I called Sprint support about this issue on three different occasions with no satisfaction. About a week after applying the tape I called Sprint again and was told this was now a "known manufacturer defect" and needed to be addressed by Motorola.

We can not say correction, but if you want to buy one, go ahead, it's a great input device, I'm sure you will not regret it!
By placing the tape on your microphone near the camera, but will leave you satisfied with the result, but that's not a problem to fix, but a workaround!
For problem solution, only those who know the Moto E3 (hahahaha), there at least they can change microphone position.

Ever since I bought this phone (Motorola Moto E 2nd gen. LTE) almost everyone I call complain about not hearing me properly. Some people say it sounds like I'm speaking to them from the bottom of a barrel. If I make calls using my wired headphones with a built in mic voice call quality is perfect.

I tried this and there was possibly a very small improvement however the sound quality during voice calls is still way poorer than on any previous phone I have owned.
Initially I thought this problem was caused by a faulty mic so I sent the phone to be repaired and they tell me the mic has been replaced but still the problem persists.
I wonder if this is all related to some kind of software bug that Motorola needs to fix?

I think the only way Moto can fix it with software is to disable the noise cancelling mic, but it will still suck since the main mic is on the back. It's hard to believe testing didn't catch that having both mics on the back was a bad thing. I gave up with trying to make calls with the E. I got a G, and since the mic is on the FRONT, it's a great calling phone. People say they think I'm on a land line.

Hmmm.... I'm probably gonna try to revoke my purchase on the grounds that sound quality in voice calls is so poor people can't hear and understand what I'm saying. Or if that doesn't work I might just have to sell it.
I mean it's kind of inconvenient that before answering a phone call I have to first connect a pair of headphones to it.
Plus I've already had to have this phone repaired three times since I bought it two months ago:
Initially when I bought the phone the headphone jack didn't work at all. So I took it back to the store and they replaced the whole phone.
About a month later the headphone jack of my newly replaced phone stopped working so I sent it to be repaired and they replaced the headphone jack
And last week I had the mic replaced but unfortunately that didn't improve voice call sound quality
An additional problem I've had is that if I press the + button on my wired headphones to increase volume Android doesn't actually increase the volume but instead it starts a google voice search. At first I thought my headphones were broken but then I tried them with three of my friends Android phones as well as my other Lumia phone and none of them had that problem. And I actually went to the store where they sold me the Moto E phone and tried my headphones on two other Moto E phones they have on display there and on both of them the plus button on my headphones had that same problem. So... that seems to be another bug in the phone's software (and/or hardware).
So yeah, not a very high quality product. Although pretty much everything else about Motorola Moto E 2nd gen is great actually!

Yeah I think the E is a great little phone. If it only did what it's called. A PHONE! I haven't had any issues with mine, so I keep it as a backup, or to take when I'm just needing to have a phone stashed away. It's hard to believe for just a bit more to get the G you get almost a flagship level phone. I highly recommend the G (2/16 version) if you decide to get rid of the E.
No issues at all on mine.
No one tried to adjust noise cancelation settings yet (in system files)?
I have been having the same problemCupping my hand over the bottom of the phone (or using a headset with a mic, or a car's bluetooth system!) works best as far a I'm concerned.-- settling my hand over the top half of the back of the phone doesn't work of me. This is probably due to some particularity of hand shape/size, or maybe the silicone case... No doubt there is an element of bad design in this problem.
Thanks!!! Tape trick worked perfect on my brothers E and I can now understand what he's saying even though I seldom agree with it.
