Backing up & Restoring Samsung Galaxy S2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently used Wondershare/MobileGo to back up my samsung galaxy s2 I9100 in order to factory reset it however, I realised after that to restore my phone I need to purchase the program. I am left with a .bak file, how do I use it to restore my phone to how it was before the factory reset?
Thanks

Don't know any app that would open this kind of file. You could try opening it on your pc and see if you can extract any files from it. Else, that's what happens when you don't research backup apps.

As the previous poster said, you can just download another browser app from the market. Your phone does not depend on the browser app for a data connection. If for some reason you can't do that:
Check the I9k forums and find a CWM flashable, stock ROM. Download it, use 7zip or winrar (or any other windows archive program- google search 7zip, its free to download) and open the ROM file. Go to: system/app. Find browser.apk and extract it to your desktop. Use adb to install it: adb push /system/app/browser.apk and you should be all set.
thanks for that did kinda help...is there anyway i can just remove everything on the phone and re install everything....kinda like re-booting with all the preloaded samsung apps...regardless if i deleted some or not?

No, not really. You would need to reflash the stock system image. Factory resets just wipe user settings, app data, and other stuff like that. It won't restore anything. If you want to do a reinstall, look into using Odin to flash back to stock. Just BE CAREFUL. Odin can brick you if you don't know what you're doing. Better off following the steps I outlined, or installing CWM and flashing a stock ROM. Again, the safest way to do what you want is what I previously posted.
if i updated through kies not a month or 2 ago and im using an australian SGS GT I9K 16BG with optus what would i be running (eg...gingerbread, Eclair, Kernal, Froyo)?
just get an market apk file n install

[Q] What can I back up to SD - no usb and unrooted?

OK my phone (GT 19300 4.1.2 build number JZ ...) is not rooted and due to a recent update it's no longer recognized by USB W7 or probably any system.
This problem is now all over many forums

A reset hasn't helped anybody so far but in case I have to do one when a solution is found, how can I presently backup everything that's possible.
Apps included.
Thanks for any help,
Michael
you cannot backup your apps because you don't have root.
You can back up the files via ftp

thanks for the fast reply.
What does "files" include?
I have already backed up contacts.
I'm pretty computer literate but what I know about Android could be written on the back of a stamp

I mean pictures/documents/whatever you store there

Thanks. I think that I already have all that in dropbox.
I downloaded Samsung GS3 Int ToolKit but it can only help me when the USB connection is resolved.
As far as I know, and I spent several hours searching, nobody has so far resolved this by doing a reset.
So when Samsung resolve the issue I'll root the phone and back up everything.
This takes me back to W98 when it first came out

How to reinstall stock samsung packages

All,
I am an idiot. Last weekend I rooted my Galaxy S2 and was really happy that everything worked well. Yesterday morning I removed some packages which I thought are not required using Titanium backup without making a backup of them before!
That was in fact a big mistake, what's now happening is that after system reboot a popup appears telling me:
process com.sec.android.socialhub was terminated unexpectedly and what's even worse when I start the stock email application (com.android.email) it is terminated, too.
I need that program to connect to my work, they check remotely what application is used.
So my question to you guys is:
how can I find out what I need to reinstall, where do I get it and how can I reinstall it?
Any hints are greatly appreciated, thanks a lot.

think it is worth to mention, Android version 2.3.3, base I9100BUKE1, kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKE2-CL188370 [email protected]#2, Build Gingerbread.BUKE2
If you make a factory reset you should have all back. make a backup of your existing apps first!

No, all the data is gone but the problem is still there. Obviously, not all the packages are reinstalled automatically after a factory reset. Is there a way of forcing that?
Please help, I am totally lost.
Unfortunately no as you have found out factory reset just deletes data for all applications but doesn't reinstall anything you may have deleted.
Only thing I can think of is to find a copy of the stock Rom you are on that matches your current version and flash that.
I assume you have an S2 based on the info you posted, try the link below and you should be able to find something that helps:

Reinstall lost

Hi there!
I did a reinstall, but forgot to backup my memos. So notes are gone.
Is it possible to get them back? I've seen some threads about factory reset recovery and some apps that are doing that, but as we are talking about different things, not pictures in most cases, is it possible to scan and recover them?
Many thanks guys!

Unfortunately, don't have a backup, as I already said.
The device is I9000 SGS.
I.m using the stock app for memos. I did the reinstall through Odin, reading about how to do it step by step.
This is for the S2, but possible the methods are similar enough...

But I highly suspect that you are out of luck and that data is no longer there or overwritten after the restore via Odin. Hopefully not...

Hey, the method, mentioned above, is not working with the I9000 device.
Moreover, there is no cache folder.

Can't restore backup using smart switch

Hello all,
I recently tried to flash some new firmware on my Exynos Galaxy S9+, and before doing so I backed up my data on my PC using the Samsung Smart Switch desktop app. After doing so, I decided to revert back to the old firmware, and restore the backup I had saved. The problem is, whenever I hit the "restore" button on the Smart Switch desktop app, I simply get a message saying "Restoring the S9+ data has been cancelled." with the only option being "confirm". I have searched on google and nobody seems to be having the same issue. Is there a fix for this, because I really need to get my data back.
If it helps, I know exactly where the backup folder is located, it's just restoring from the backup that's giving me issues.
Thanks!

Did u find the solution am having the same issue on my s10 plus
YES! I got it after 3 hours of struggling. Now the process finally started. I hope no more obstacles will be on the way.
I had cleaned my S10 to factory settings and i had the same problem as you.
In my case i had to update Smart Switch on PC (not from app interface - it didnt work, but i had to download new version of app from samsung site).
I also did something before, I changed back the folder of backup on PC into default one (previoulsy i manually changed it). Maybe this helped too.
Good luck!
