Can't restore backup using smart switch - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I recently tried to flash some new firmware on my Exynos Galaxy S9+, and before doing so I backed up my data on my PC using the Samsung Smart Switch desktop app. After doing so, I decided to revert back to the old firmware, and restore the backup I had saved. The problem is, whenever I hit the "restore" button on the Smart Switch desktop app, I simply get a message saying "Restoring the S9+ data has been cancelled." with the only option being "confirm". I have searched on google and nobody seems to be having the same issue. Is there a fix for this, because I really need to get my data back.
If it helps, I know exactly where the backup folder is located, it's just restoring from the backup that's giving me issues.
Thanks!

Did u find the solution am having the same issue on my s10 plus

YES! I got it after 3 hours of struggling. Now the process finally started. I hope no more obstacles will be on the way.
I had cleaned my S10 to factory settings and i had the same problem as you.
In my case i had to update Smart Switch on PC (not from app interface - it didnt work, but i had to download new version of app from samsung site).
I also did something before, I changed back the folder of backup on PC into default one (previoulsy i manually changed it). Maybe this helped too.
Good luck!

[Q] My Normal HD2 now shows as T-Mobile_LEO in phone info?

Every since i updated to the latest rom via the HTC website, i noticed my phone info now says T-Mobile_LEO, what's up with that? NORMAL or what?
Plus SPB Backup also recognises it as not the same device i made a backup on although it is, even if i backup using the same rom it thinks it's different.
Other then this weird thing the entire phone works flawless, was just curious as to whats up.
Thanks for any input.
mine does this too because the energy rom im using based on a rom for the tmous..... must be the same sort of issue.
its nothing to worry about, shouldn't cause you any problems.
I wouldn't advise restoring your backup from an old rom to a new rom anyway in case there are any incompatibility issues....
Just tried to restore my backup from SPB Backup which was made on this phone and when i get to the restore part it states the phone is different from the one which i made the backup ?? Anyone with any ideas what's up here ?
Why does it say it's T-Mobile_Leo in the first place as the rom update was downloaded from HTC's own website.
Anyone else had this same problem ??
I backed up everything and now i can't restore it properly.

First, you should only use SPB Backup to restore to the SAME ROM as was backed up. Otherwise you will have trouble. Not might, will.
You have to select the Force ROM Upgrade mode, and then just before the restore, check the options and select ROM upgrade. Then it should work.
Hi there,
Well, I just got my HD2 back from repairs, where they replaced the mainboard. The ROM seems to be the same, 3.14, but the phone ID is showing as T-Mobile_LEO. When I restored using SPB backup, it said the ROM was different though. What is going on here?
Thanks,
David
I can't figure it out either, exact same thing but my one happened with the rom update.
Weird.
Do some of you guys use Swype?
If yes, the naming of your device is "normal", Swype wouldn´t run with the "normal" naming.
Afaik, the Swype cab installs a certain file into the Windows folder.
If you remove it, the name would be normal, but Swype won´t run correctly.
Ahh. I use swype, I did not know it actually renames the device.
That actually makes sense.
Thanks for this finally cleared up now.
Brilliant.

I have tried the system restore,
unfreezing all of my apps,
going to settings manage apps,
clearing the data for each app,
and I also tried doing the system recovery multiple times
and I still get the same error.

sounds good so far, now if your unlocked on cm7 it does that even on my phone
but if your stock you must have pooched it, nothing serious but you will need a computer and RSDlight because honestly, you did everything correct and its still hatin on you follow this link and you should be A-OK and reroot it again

Thanks for the help! I did try that and I kept getting a error with it. But I just got a new computer and I will try it again and see if it works. If it doesn't do you have any other suggestions?

best thing if that fails is to download the STOCK firmware and try even flashing that, if you come across the error code make sure you post it up in here so we can narrow it down
Just incase the steps above don't work, how would I flash with the stock sbf and restore it from Titanium Backup? I'm sorry I kind of a newbie to the rooting on android all together. Trying to get my experience now with some different forums

you would need to use RSDlight which can be found on the threads here or the one i posted above, i would help find the stock sbf but im at work and little on time now to find it. more then likely could be found via google.
everything you need to do can be found in ACS qbkings thread search the development thread and you will find it he does have youtube videos up as well that can help you step through step on reflashing the sbf to rooting unlocking and installing on your phone make sure you give him a thumbs up
Does anyone have a working link for the Motorola Photon 4G stock SBF file? All of the ones I have googled and tried to find were not available links. Anyone?????
Ok so I found out why I was getting that random error message before when I tried to go through the process of getting that stock ROM on the MOPHO to get rid of those errors. It was because I still had my SD and SIM card in still. So after taking them out and going through all the processes I got it working now. Thanks for all of your help!
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
I would get this same error as well as other system apps crashing on both my captive (Samsung Galaxy S) and Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket. The cause was that I restored system apps from older versions of android and they were conflicting with the newer build. When you do the batch restore be sure to deselect system apps such as phone 1.0. Most of these are marked in red so they are easy to route out. Also you can sort by install date to push most of them to the bottom of the list. I did not install phone however I am getting the error now on my new SG2 Skyrocket. Need to test it some more but do not have time right now. It may be CONTACTS/CALLS data, or maybe SMS/MMS/APN Dial Storage data that is the culprit. or maybe i missed contacts 1.0 or phone 1.0 when i did the restore. Anyway I will go back and do it again and let you know my finds.
BTW I am restoring my data to my AT&T SGII Skyrocket which was created on the Captivate running 2.3.3 Cognition 5.2. The SG2II is stock, rooted 2.3.5.
Note, using the Migrate System Data option in TB's preferences may resolve this too as restoring with TB across newer versions of Android have not been this problematic in the past and I forgot to check that option. Haste makes waste.
FIX
OK I got tired of my phone messing up so I took the time out to fix it.
My suspicions were correct, in my case the culprit was:
[CONTACTS/CALLS...cts Storage 2.3.5
You can either choose to not restore the offending data or if you have already done so and are experiencing the:
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
error you can delete the data for the offending item(s) via TB.
To remove the data just locate in the backup/restore page the item(s) in question in TB and tap on them. choose wipe data. Reboot and it should be fixed.
A heavy handed way to avoid this or if you are not sure what is the offending data you can simply use the restore missing apps + data batch option in TB. This will ensure no system apps are replaced as this is the cause of the problem in the first place (replacing an app or its data with and outdated version).
If you go this route and still need the missing data imported, use google's cloud (account sync) to retrieve your contact, calender, and other data. As for text messages, you can carry these over with a free app on the market Backup SMS.
your findings are awesome! I just bumped into this "com.android.phone" FC problem with my newly flashed Samsung Galaxy S2.
Thanks a lot

Star Wars the Old Republic Security Authenticator App

FYI - I just updated my T-Mobile SGS2. After the wipe and update, I'm unable to re-setup the application because I can't get another Serial and Activation Code from the SWTOR website.
Later I reloaded a custom ROM and tried to restore the app with Titanium, but I keep getting an "An unexpected error has occured."
So in short, if you are expecting an update for your phone, or load custom ROMs a lot, DO NOT USE THE ANDROID AUTHENTICATOR APP (until those awesome hackers find out what going on).
Fortunately I was rooted and able to restore a full system backup, to get the app back running correctly. But now I'm forced to run an older version of software on my phone.
Hopefully CS can help with a better solution or App.
I wrote down the key information I entered into the app when I set it up. I don't know if that will work later on though.
The other thing I have going for me... is that both my phone and tablet are configured for it. I did them both at the same time. That way, if one device is lost or stolen, or gets wiped, I can rely on the other.

yes but what ur not getting is that in order to set it up again u have to be able to log into ur account which u cant do without a security key
I havent checked yet, but i will soon. Is there a way to shut off the security key (temporarily, of course) so that we can just shut it off, load a rom, turn it back on and "re-marry" the app? Might not be great for nightly users, but I'd like to try some different roms without losing the ability to play my game.

The only way to detach the security key atm is to phone support and have them remove it. I read somewhere that adding that functionality to the webpage is a high priority.
yeah. I got my ticket back about that. I went ahead and just ordered a standalone key. Not going to take the chance. haha
There must be a way to backup the application. Moving it to an emulator on my pc would be nice, but I couldn't do it...

Successfully Restored Authenticator
I know this post is old, but I've seen several similar posts concerning the same issue, and the resolution was calling Customer Support and having it removed. Anyway, I've restored the app successfully several times today. Last week, I contacted Titanium Track (Titanium Backup Support), and one of the suggestions they gave me led to an answer. "If you leave the app installed and just switch between the ROMs without a wipe, does the same problem happen or not?".
It indeed did continue to function. I then tried a "factory reset" and restoring the app, which led to the dreaded "unexpected error occurred". My next step involved, restoring all system app data/rebooting...and then the authenticator functioned. After a couple of hours, I narrowed down the 2nd app that needs to be restored. Under Titanium Backup it's - [SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH...-> "Settings Storage". By exploring this data using Titanium Backup, I saw one variable that I believe is the cause of the issue. "Android_ID".
Sorry, I can't post the link but this is from "adrynalyne" on Android Forums - "Warning. Do Not Share Nandroid Backups".
Even if your apps aren't there, and no personal information has been entered on a fresh wipe.
If someone asks for a stock Nandroid backup, kindly tell them to get lost
contagous and I learned the hard way. I sent him a completely tweaked and clean nandroid, with none of my personal info or anything like that. He has been using it and it works great.
Until AppBrain fast web installer is used. See, it IDs your device by the Android_ID, which is unique to every phone, or is supposed to be.
Nandroid backups will record this device ID, and clone it onto another device. Well, when contagous installs an app using the web installer, I get it. Without a prompt or nothing.
While I can do the same thing, and it was fun sending him pron apps and sexy men wallpapers, it has a real potential for a security nitemare. I trust contagous, but let this serve as a warning to everyone. Its also not so simple as installing another ROM and factory reset. So far as I can tell, as long as you stay on the same build OS, you will keep the same ID. The only thing that changed my ID to something else was going back to 2.1.
So friends, don't let friends share nandroids. If you do, play it smart, and delete all but the system and boot images and recalculate the md5.

I believe that the Star Wars: The Old Republic Security Key app is looking at the Android_ID key for a match, and then bombing out. This is only a theory from my experience. But I would suggest to anyone that's willing to try it to attempt to restore both the SWORSK and Settings Storage "SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH", rebooting, and see what happens. Of course, make a NANDROID backup before trying this!

Some good news. I requested for the ability to restore the "Android_ID" be added to Titanium Backup, and they have made it so. I tested a couple times and can verify that it is the Android_ID that this app relies on. So for those out there, give it a try if you wish. I should note though that may have to switch the time sync "from auto to manual, then back to auto" to be able to get the site to accept the key. But yes, restoration of the Security Key has been achieved! Good luck everyone!
@Cbjohns
It's working!
I've got nandroid-backup from some months ago, when I used to play SWTOR. Now on the new ROM I couldn't make it working.
So I
1. nandroid-backup this ROM
2. nandroid-restore previous one
3. backup this SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH(only data) and SWTOR app(data+app)
4. nandroid-restore again present ROM
5. restore SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH(only data) and SWTOR app(data+app)
6. reboot(without it, it doesn't work) my phone
-and it's working.
Thanks again!!
I recently got a new phone and had to call support every time I tried a new rom. This has saved me TONS of time, thank you so much!

[Q] titanium backup hypershell

hey guys,
My questions is regarding the fast/auto app install on titanium backup, some time ago after flashing a new ROM the Hypershell stopped working, i change ROM quite abit and cant remember which rom (if it was a rom that caused it) it was when the problem started, no matter what i do or which rom i put on my phone i still get the "Fast/Auto app install, NO(Hypershell needed)".
I have unistalled/reinstalled Titanium Backup app, the TB Pro key, Superuser app, Busybox, done wipes, flashed new and different roms but it is always the same, i assumed if i was missing something, a new rom with full wipe would sort it , but i'm obviously wrong, i am obviously missing something but i dont know what, if any of you guys could help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Come on someone must have an answer for me.
i had the same problem with another app,
you can check to another sd card ,partition the card ,install the rom ,and install the app,if it work then you must copy your filew of your basic card to the pc,format your card ,partition your card with the "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition",paste your files and thats it .
i hope to work it,
it 's work to me
For anyone suffering from this issue and finding this thread, I'd figured out what to do (once ensuring I have the Pro Key installed properly) go into TB's "Menu->Preferences->App processing mode" and (re-)select "Auto, Direct". Then restart TB, and you're all set!
I think that what happened is I'd tried running TB w/o the ProKey installed and it reset that setting. Since TB saves to your SD Card, it doesn't usually get wiped on a reset, so it'd picked up the old, non-ProKey setting (my TB said "Hypershell YES" and "Fast App install NO (need Hypershell)".

Thank you very much man. it really helped me.

How to reinstall stock samsung packages

All,
I am an idiot. Last weekend I rooted my Galaxy S2 and was really happy that everything worked well. Yesterday morning I removed some packages which I thought are not required using Titanium backup without making a backup of them before!
That was in fact a big mistake, what's now happening is that after system reboot a popup appears telling me:
process com.sec.android.socialhub was terminated unexpectedly and what's even worse when I start the stock email application (com.android.email) it is terminated, too.
I need that program to connect to my work, they check remotely what application is used.
So my question to you guys is:
how can I find out what I need to reinstall, where do I get it and how can I reinstall it?
Any hints are greatly appreciated, thanks a lot.

No, all the data is gone but the problem is still there. Obviously, not all the packages are reinstalled automatically after a factory reset. Is there a way of forcing that?
Please help, I am totally lost.
Unfortunately no as you have found out factory reset just deletes data for all applications but doesn't reinstall anything you may have deleted.
Only thing I can think of is to find a copy of the stock Rom you are on that matches your current version and flash that.
I assume you have an S2 based on the info you posted, try the link below and you should be able to find something that helps:
