[Q] Losing Root After ROM Flash - Verizon LG G3

I've lost root twice after flashing ROMs in TWRP. Here is the process I'm going through:
Flash 10b using the LGFlashTool.
Root using StumpRoot. Verify successful Root via RootChecker/SuperSU/BusyBox.
Use Flashify to install TWRP bumped (2.8.0.0, then upgrade to 2.8.3.0 using the recovery.img in this link w/ Flashify: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966014)
Reboot and verify root again.
Boot into TWRP, wipe (tried factory reset and advanced cache/system/boot/data methods)
Install ROM (tried Resurrection 5.2.8 and Illusion 3.0).
Reboot, lose root.
I am new to the G3, but I've done many flashes on several devices throughout the years thanks to the folks on XDA. If someone could point out my error it would be much appreciated!

I don't know about resurrection but illusion comes with root disabled. Just flash the latest SU package.

BTW searching within the rom threads would have given you the answer faster than typing up this new thread.

I didn't see notes in the OP in either ROM thread regarding disabled root nor flashing SuperSU. Thanks for the quick reply.

you're not alone. I lost root on CM12 (o'1.5.15) and can't seem to get it back either. I was hoping your post was on that, but no avail. I have tried flashing su.zip latest from twrp 2.8.3.0 with no success.
----
turns out, bad zip and adb/apps disabled within dev options of CM12. might not be the same on the ROMs your dealing, but was my solution. FWIW.

Just download the latest SuperSU zip and flash it in recovery and you should have root back just check in developer options that root is enabled
Here's a link to the latest SuperSU zip

I am new to android and rooting so please bear with me. I used the LG flash to to downgrade from 12b and then I got TWRP and flashed Illusion and Gapps, but now it says I am not rooted and I cannot seem to get back into TWRP. Is my best option to start over using the flash tool? Is there a better lollipop rom that keeps root? This forum has been so helpful in the learning process so thanks in advance.

Wow. I'm such a noob. (facepalm) Thank you!

Yeah I'd also like to chime in on this a few weeks ago I went to try cm12 (was using illusion 4.0) and I also had root problems too
But then I've read twice in the last ten minutes that cm12 has deprecated supersu.
So basically it sounds like illusion 4.0 just hadn't updated enough yet to be like cm12.
I seriously thought my phone had major issues. Paired with the PA gapps cluster f... Yeah basically I haven't had to use roms for nearly 2 years.
Anyway thanks four this useful thread!

If you have a custom recovery installed you can't "lose root".
You can always get it back by flashing SU or whatever.
CM12 has root as an option in the developer section of the settings.

[Solved] Phone keeps rebooting into TWRP

All,
I was running a stock rooted LG G3. I decided I wanted to apply the OTA (I know, it was probably a terrible idea). Anyways I paid for the ChainFire SuperSU Pro hoping that I could apply the OTA keep root and carry on my way. After I applied the update it rebooted into TWRP and I couldn't get it to stop so I figured now was as good of time as any to wipe and install a custom ROM. I have tried both of the latest versions of unofficial CM12 and ParanoidAndroid and after I wipe and do the install then reboot it still goes back to the TWRP recovery. I am running version 2.8.3.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

[Q] how can i root nexus 9 without custom recovery?

Hello. I want to root my nexus 9 without installing any custom recovery. I want this because i want to receive google updates...
And sont suggest me about "install custom recovery and when you need flash the stock etc.)
Thanks in advance
Wrong forum. This is a dev forum, not Q&A. Rooting w/out custom recovery is possible with chainfire's autoroot flashable zips. But still you won't receive OTA updates b/c since Lollipop the validation process has changed and you need to be pure stock. This also includes the recovery iirc.
Moved to correct forum
Just root it. You don't need custom. Use the nexus tool kit

Since when does rooting prevent OTA updates? Thats the first time I hear that.
On my N10 I always booted only into TWRP (fastboot boot twrp.img) and flashed from there the supersu.zip and still got OTAs without any issues.
I sold my N10 and my N9 is currently on the way to me so Im preparing everything to unlock and root it as soon as it arrives, thats why I am checking all those threads right now regarding root.
Well, I read only about this root injecting methode which doesnt sound very good to me and the nexus toolkit methode. Isnt it possible to boot into TWRP like I did before? Why shouldnt this work on the N9?

My bad. I should have said you will not be able to install OTA if you are rooted. The install script checks system files and if anything has been modified, it aborts installation. Your better option is to fastboot flash the Google factory image.
So what is the current working root methode for 5.1.1 without losing OTA or flashing any recovery?
This injecting thing, nexus toolkit or another way?
--edit--
seems like CF-Auto-Root (special version for the N9) works also? Im right now having 40 windows open in chrome, trying to find the best way...
Question is, does it still work for 5.1.1?
Again: Why should not boot into TWRP and then flash the supersu zip not work? Any issues with that?
Please share your experience. Thanks

It's a Nexus device. The easiest root method is to fastboot flash TWRP, the download SuperSU and flash it in recovery. Link here > http://download.chainfire.eu/740/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip

Alright, so the 'usual' way works as always, thanks for clearing this up. Was wondering if there were still some issues with rooting the N9.
So you suggest the beta version of supersu, will give a try first to the stable one, if this doesnt work ill try the beta.
Thanks m8

Help! Sprint SM-N900P - Android 5.0 - Clockwork Recvery

Okay, I've been working on this all night and most of the morning. I upgraded my Sprint Note 3 via OTA to Lollipop (5.0). I attempted to root and my phone booted up and all of my apps stopped working--including System UI. I ended up just factory resetting. Somehow though, the root was successful.
Now I'm trying to install Clockwork Recovery so that I can Nandroid backup and install Xposed Framework. I'm having the hardest time find stuff for my phone. Is it that old that no one is updating stuff for the Note 3? Anywhoo, can anyone tell me the proper way to flash CW Recovery? I've tried all kinds of sources, but nothing is clearly indicated for my phone. I've even tried the ROM Manager and that soft bricked my phone.
Use TWRP 2.6.1. You will have better success.

I have to wipe cache every time I go into twrp 2.8.1.0. Or I get the ui errors if it gets past the Sprint screen.
I was on an older version but the backup won't restore.

Which of Chainfire's method? Those were the ones I tried. I don't see anything on his site for SM-N900P with Lollipop.
You can find philz cwm touch that you can flashbwith odin. If your upgrading to lollipop xposed isnt supported right now. If you cant find the files let me known I keep them backed up and can upload to Dropbox.

By the way cf-auto root works great. You flash it in odin as well
the NH7 tar on chainfires site works on OC5
Thanks all...I ended up flashing TWRP via flashify.
I thought I saw somewhere that xposed beta version was working for 5.0.

@XxD34THxX weird you lost root? and your having issues with the settings etc FC? not the case on my end. did you flash anything else with the ROM? theres a script in the installer that flashes SuperSu literally the exact same way as flashing Chain's SuperSu.zip after installing a ROM. I started infusing the 2 long ago back on 4.4.2 now every dev uses this technique. No reason why binaries shouldnt install and the only FC in Settings should come from trying to visit the Theme Store
Can some people please verify this to be true for all? definately not the way it works on my S4. what about MMS and Phone with VZW service that was one thing I wasn't able to test

I don't have any of the issues stated root and settings work fine the only force closes i have are when I tried to launch the theme store like you said. I love the rom I hope you guys can get the themes working tho incredibly smooth and fast good battery life used echoe v49 as my DD till this came out and I love this rom so much it's my new DD. No WiFi issues either which was surprising compared to other lollipop roms! Thanks for the hard work! I'm also interested in testing new builds before release so I can report bugs that may arise!
first off i love what youve done so far. i have tried to clean install this rom on my verizon I545 running NC5 several times today, everytime i lose root. MMS works if i change my text app to Google Messenger. i also can not get Google Chrome to work either. wifi and phone calls work in and out but i also lose data. my procedures consist of odin back to stock, root, install safestrap, reboot into safestrap and install. i do not install anything else during installation. hope to hear what others have done to make this work. thanks in advance...
Root Gone, No Data or Outgoing SMS
So I came from OC1 deodexed. Used FlashFire and wipped everything before install v1.89.
It is fast, but can't send SMS, and not getting 4g notification. I get bars, just no data.
And Root appears gone.

Yayyyyy I found a fix go into SuperSu after normal rom install don't install SuperSu in recovery for root it doesn't always fix the problem after the rom is flashed go into SuperSu and go to settings and go down to where it says install to system and it will go through and after a reboot my root worked
Just wanted to report that loosing root seems to be fixed by just telling SuperSU to grant by default and if you try to open them the SystemUI crashes and if you change the swipe effect to none the SystemUI constantly crashes.
I like this ROM. But I wish the font was better. Even using font changer, the font gets wacky.

So, root you have. Just go to superuser app and instead of asking the app to prompt every time an app has to use root to grant. This will allow for root to work.
I'm still waiting for a fix for the mobile data.

how did you get into safestrap? recovery wont boot... before updating busybox i couldn't even see the splash screen. i cant use data call or send messages and there isn't an APN option with your rom, at least not for me so i cant edit the values manually. i have Verizon service and want to try your fixes but im unable to boot into safestraps recovery. when i click recovery it just boots lolipop haha
Did you reinstall safestrap?

yes i did all that just not the nc2 thing i was actually just reading up on it hahaha.... slight confusion, i was trying to find a video as not sure what kernel they are talking about dont want to do the wrong thing as im on oc1 with the super6 rom but its bootloader is nk4.... so what do i need exactly in order to keep things running smoothly as in the warning for the app it says you have to flash custom rom upgrade odin tar with odin. it also says it will flash nc1 then i have to flash either nc4 or oc1 when im done.... is this before rebooting to lolipop or is this after im done using safestrap to try the fixes that were uploaded for data messaging and phone?
So once you use the nc2flasher you will have the nc2 kernel installed and it will let you boot into safestrap. To go back to oc1 kernel, there is a flashable kernel in one of the topics about booting into safestrap in the general section.

[ROOT/KERNEL] Root Method for FOG6 / 5.1.1

DO NOT USE ON FOF6 FIRMWARE. WILL "BREAK" YOUR CAMERA. CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE VERSION.
Root method for FOG6 / 5.1.1 for the G900t THIS WILL TRIP KNOX. If you don't want to trip knox don't use this. If you do use it and whine you tripped knox because you didn't read ,we will all point and laugh at you.
Named it TrapKernel because well its not my normal HispAsian Kernel and I listened to a crap ton of Trap Music while doing it.
Thanks to @g.lewarne and his root method with his Unibase and Unikernel for the s6 , we finally have root after I ported it over to us. So be sure to thank him for his work.
What's included:
Auto installation of root and busy box
SuperSu.apk
A stock build prop with secure storage set to false so wifi passwords and etc aren't forgotten after reboots.
Kernel set to permissive
Otherwise stock
So here's the deal. Stupid simple.
1. Download the kernel
2. Flash in recovery (if twrp asks if you want to install su say NO)
3. Reboot and profit.
If you need more detailed help go HERE
Download
TrapKernel G6 [TWRP ZIP]
TrapKernel G6 [ODIN TAR]
Do NOT mirror this link. That means you "Android Geeks".

EDIT: Works perfectly.
i just flashed it and somehow it broke the fingerprint scanner. nvm after a reboot, it is working now.
Awesome... thanks man!
Thanks! Working good. This. Is the 5.1.1 we should have gotten.
So when I come BAck I have everything.... is this new update faster the older one. was so buggy like 4-5 random restarts and freezes
I tripped Knox thanks bro ahaha!!!!

Great news about Trap Kernel root method for FOG6/5.1.1.
Background: I got a rooted TMobile GS5 4.4.2 last year and lately I had problems with storage from contact list file cache filling-up, over heating phone/cpu. Shortage of storage was fixed by clearing contacts app cache but still it prompted me to upgrade to 5.1.1 Lollipop, rooted earlier this week (see details below), but the camera app is broken. Glad that ShinySide was able to provide a Root method which won't break the camera app.
Just reviewed the detailed help links and took note about not letting TWRP install SU - note that I had let TWRP install SU with HispAsian kernel. I am using Android Unified toolkit PRO (with Odin3 v3.09), which was used to install TWRP 2.7.1.0 (latest available there). Before installing this new Trap Kernel when I get a chance:
Is it recommended to first update my current TWRP 2.7.1.0 to a newer version?
Is tripping Knox really an issue for phones if they are past 1 year since purchase (i.e. 1 yr manufacturer warranty expired)?
Thank you for clarifying,
Current system (rooted but broken camera app):

You've already tripped Knox considering you have HispAsian kernel installed.
Install this kernel camera will work
An updated hispasian will be posted soon. It's already up to date plus some as the F6 version, I was just waiting for Kernel Auditor to accept a pull request so we're officially supported by its kernel download feature so I can push updates thru the app and can flash it via the app

Just did mine. All seems good. Camera working.
Question. Lately, anytime I flash anything, when clicking on twrp reboot, it gets stuck on tmobile screen on reboot, and sometimes I long press power button and it's finishes boot and my homescreen loads. Other times, I gotta pull battery, and then boots fine and all further reboots are fine, no hang ups. What you think this is? Something in my twrp? I leave everything checkmarked in twrp restore, cache and everything. Wonder if that is causing it somehow. Should I wipe cache and dalvik in twrp reboot?
Thanks for the new trapkernel! I missed my root access those past two days and not having my adaway to block ads.

Thanks, that was quick and easy. TWRP was updated to 2.8.7.0, and with TrapKernel both Camera and MHL connection work fine. Note though that I forgot to deselect Auto Reboot in Odin Option tab, so the phone did boot up fully after TWRP update and before flashing TrapKernel from Recovery Boot. It seems fine.
Regarding your note about not letting TWRP install SU, I already had SuperSU installed under my previous Kernel by TWRP. SU (already installed) seems to work fine but it is now prompting to update the SU binary. So under TrapKernel is it ok to proceed and update -or- should it be removed?
Thanks,
Donat

Because hispasian kernel doesn't contain the auto root.
You should be able to update it. I've havent been prompted yet
Since the more details link seems to be dead or at least down, is there another way I can find out how to do this? It seems like you already have to know a number of things to follow the instructions in the first post.
Also, does this method reset your phone? OR are your settings, etc still intact after the root is complete?
Thanks.

Thanks.
As far as lost settings. So far, I've had to re-enter wifi keys.
Is it possible or even advisable to put the original recovery back in after it's rooted?
