I have an Xperia mini pro sk17i with 2.3.4 Android. I'd like to flash newer/custom roms to it, but I've got a few questions/issues.
So far I've removed the sim lock and I *think* (it was a while ago now) I have unlocked the boot loader with the test point method. In service info it says "rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed :yes", is that what I should see after a test point unlock? I also tried the fastboot.exe unlock, but that comes back saying that "phone is already unlocked". I don't recall whether I've rooted the phone or not.
Next step is I'd really like to take a backup of my stock rom before I reflash it. Is there a way to read the current firmware back off the phone and make an image file of it? Everything I found talks about a slightly different way to get it - using SUS (which doesn't work any more), or PC companion to download the firmware from Sony, and then create an image file from that. PC companion (v2.1) seems to get stuck in an infinite loop. Whenever it detects the phone, it comes up on the phone screen: "do you want to install the pc companion software on your computer". If I say yes it just downloads and installs what is already there. And then it just tells me that my phones memory is not accessible, and to check for sim card and screen unlocked. Even if they both are, it won't detect it.
I also tried to use the Sony program called "Emma", which I think does the same thing, but in bootloader mode? Yesterday I got it started and connected my phone, and I think it said my phone still needed boot loader unlocking first (but I thought it was. maybe not then)?? Today Emma won't even load - it says Win XP isn't supported any more, but I'm sure it worked yesterday on this pc!
I don't want to go any further without backing up the stock firmware if possible, so what should I try next?
Install CWM recovery then do a backup. Look around the stickies for links, there's plenty of tutorials for it. Good luck :

Please list your problem simply,i sinply cant get what u mean, sorry for my english it's not my mothertongue
I think you can't update your rooted phone the normal way via SEUS or PC Companion. You need to flash your phone manually, or reset to factory state to get the official update
Simply my problem is that i want to install on my Xperia mini pro (2011) new update and installation failed. Phone is rooted and I want to install this update.

Tell us HOW you are trying and failing - are you trying to use the Sony Ericsson updater or some other tool? If so - name the tool.
If you are just trying to use Sony Ericsson's update program - called PC Companion - you need to tell us whether or not you have already installed any custom, third-party rom in place of the standard one your phone came with.
Also - since you have rooted your phone, did you do so for any particular reason - i.e. - have you installed any particular applications or customisations that required the phone to be rooted?
If not - please understand that rooting your phone is NOT necessary for normal use. Only a tiny percentage of the millions of Anfroid phones sold get rooted - it is a hack that MAY prevent your phone from working properly in certain ways - including being able to install updates from the manufacturer or service provider.
If you want to be able to safely and easily install updates directly from Sony Ericsson, unroot your phone and reset it to all defaults - after backing up any important data. Then run the update program. If you have specific apps that only work when the phone is rooted - you can alway re-root the phone afterwards then reinstall the apps - just bear in mind that different revisions of Android MAY require a different method to root and MAY require a different version of any named app.
If none of that helps - tell us exactly WHAT is failing and HOW it is failing - give EXACT details of the application you are using and EXACT details of any error messages you see on the computer and/or phone. Simply saying "it won't work" is like asking "Why won't my car start?" - impossible to answer without listing a million possible reasons.

I tried default SE update app in phone. I tried also to use PC Companion, but i am not able to connect phone in MTC mode(required for upgrade).
I think that i have no custom party ROM (Only one change I used was rooting and if there was no custom ROM i have none).
I rooted my phone for cleanup. I wan to uninstall many default applications such as Moxier, Popcap games or Wisepilor Navigation. I am not interested that something not required spent my batery. After cleanup my battery is usable 1,5 times more.

That's more useful - it appears that the problem you need to address is not the ability to update - it's the ability to connect to your computer via USB.
Please go through this in order...
Disconnect the USB cable from the phone and PC.
Go into the Sony Ericsson menu and then Connectivity.
Go into USB connection mode and select Media Transfer Mode (MTP)
Go back from the menu to the main screen.
Run PC Companion on your PC - you will get the main window showing a message saying "No Phone Connected".
Plug the USB cable into the PC and then into the phone.
PC Companion should now say "Searching Phone".
If it doesn't find your phone - remove the USB lead from the PC then unintsall PC companion. Go to the Sony Ericsson website and download and re-install PC Companion. Then run it and try again.
If PC Companion still fails to find and connect to your phone, post back - you may need to run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner to fully remove any corrupted drivers.
If PC Companion finds your phone, it will show a message regarding available updates. If updates are available, follow the onscreen instructions to install them.
If there are updates but they fail to install - post back with details.
If there is any other message - such as saying that your phone cannot be updated - post back with exact details of the message - including your current version.
One important thing to bear in mind here that hasn't been mentioned so far is the method you used to root. If you used the unlocked bootloader method, then upgrading via official path, i.e. pc companion will definately result in you failing on update. As it will brick your phone and you will have to resort to this forum for a solution. However, if you rooted using the doomlord method you should be ok cos SE won't detect the modified software when attempting the update.
Guys when this update comes out for Xperia Mini ST15?

ST15 update is in place but if it will come to your phone is dependent on your provider and region
problem with upgrade
Hi, I had the same problem (rooted phone - locked bootloader) because I attepmted to upgrade the phone ota - through the phone. It did not work but at the same time from this moment on the phone was imossible to connect in the mode suitable for upgrade. The solution is SEUS because in this program the phone connects while it is switched off and it really works.
A friend of mine gave me his x10i phone to play, so i decided to follow all the proper steps to get the device rooted and install 2.3.4 on it.
I have downloaded the flashtool v 0.5.3.0, but it does not detect the device. I have also installed the drivers on the system from flashtool\drivers folder
When I click Check Drivers, i get the following output:
12/041/2011 16:41:47 - INFO - List of connected devices (Device Id) :
12/041/2011 16:41:47 - INFO - - USB\VID_0FCE&PID_612E\CB511ND245: OK
12/041/2011 16:41:47 - INFO - List of ADB devices :
12/041/2011 16:41:47 - INFO - List of fastboot devices :
Another problem I have is that Debug mode is on, but the flashtool always says it is off. I tried all i could including upgrading the stock rom from sonyericsson site, but at this stage, I am ready to give up. I do not see anyone else is experiencing this problem.
Any advice is appreciated.
screw the drivers in that folder
install the legit ones from the SE webstie
install the PC Companion and it will do everything for you
then try. If does not work message me or reply here
tried it all from scratch at home on windows 7 (first attempt was at work on XP).
At home everything worked fine Thanks!
do you want Unlocking you bootloader?
try my way, its stands in my signature.
I think i was able to unlock it. In fact, sorry, I do not know what "unlocking bootloader" is, but what makes me think that I've done it is that i was able to flash Doom kernel with wifi and one of the custom ROMs on it. Also I got root access on the phone. Recovery console (CWM ?) is working too.
Correct me if i am wrong, but this is as far as i can go with this device and nothing else needed to crack/install etc.
One issue i noticed is that GPS does not work and settings are just not there, but i guess it is a ROM/kernel related question which i will explore further.
unlock bootloader
makes it a lot easier and nicer when you install a custom rom
um
use flashtool
under plugins category
Guys, hi.
I'm beat, I admit it, the jig is up and I'm all out. I've done every possible thing to my phone and nothing helps.
I want to flash CWM7, right? I have the stock 2.1 and working root (that I know for sure). I also have Flashtool and Android SDK on my computer.
What I DON'T have, however, is a way to get into recovery and from there flash ROMs. CWM Recovery doesn't exist for my phone (Xperia X10 Mini Pro), so I got this thing (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106146), copied the chargemon and recovery.tar into my system folder, set the permissions to all enabled, turned off my phone, turned it back on and spammed the back key -> nothing. On another try I long-pressed the back-key -> nothing. On another I installed Rom Manager and selected Boot into Recovery. The phone just restarted.
I THINK, but I'm not sure, that to use recovery, I have to have my bootloader unlocked, is that correct? For that I used this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225) which I must say is extremely confusing - essentially, what I did was that I got msm7227_semc.cmd from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17384177&postcount=3) and run that -that seemed to work fine and returned no errors, on my pc.
I can't ascertain whether I ACTUALLY have bootloader unlocked, because that (from what I read in the guide) requires Gordon's Gate and S1tool - S1tool alone doesn't work for me (does nothing) and my Flashtool installation doesn't have Gordon's Gate in it.
So, I don't even know anymore. What the heck am I doing wrong, how can I boot into recovery? It used to be so easy when I had the HTC Desire
Thanks, all. It would be really appreciated if you could give me any help, because I spent hours on this and have had no success despite following all the neat guides and stuff
Angelic out
When i was in Stock Android, I had taken xRecovery to flash my first ROM (MiniCm7pro V21)
After the ROM was flashed I had CWM already preinstalled
Hopefully this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950324) may help you

Hi everyone,
So I bought my friends HTC ONE X PLUS off him even though he had boot loop following a botched Custom ROM installation.
Stupidly I thought I could fix it.
It is an international device locked to O2. It loops at the HTC logo and allows boot into bootloader and CWM. The problem I have is that the PC doesnt even recognise it as a USB MASS (even after downloading the latest drivers - several times ) CWM wont even mount the storage.
Ive tried sideloading and everything else but no joy. The RUU I need to flash back to stock isnt out yet ? 1.17.206.1 and I cant ( as mentioned ) just dump an img/zip into the root as I cant get access to the storage. Its shows on the PC as removable storage but when I click it it asks me to insert a disk.
When I adb device/fastboot device it gives a number and says fastboot. ADB shows nothing in list of attached devices.
Any suggestions? If anyone in the UK would be happy for me to post it to them so they can have a go Id be happy to fund a beer or 2 in return
Thanks all.

The reason why the phone does not boot up anymore is that you friend probably forgot to flash the proper kernel/boot.img for the rom he installed. The kernal can't be flashed in recovery because the phone is still S-ON. In the HTC One X+ General forum you will find two tutorials with everything you need to know about unlocking/rooting/flashing using this phone. If you read both of them carefully, you should be able to solve your problem. Don't forget to press Thanks for the two guys who made these guides!!!
Also here you should be able to find the correct RUU for your CID. But since it needs relocked bootloader, you probably will have to read the to guides anyway and it is probably much easier to stay with unlocked bootloader and do the right flashing procedure.
Gonna be a long read but I'd be glad if someone could help me. Plus, it is an interesting issue.
I use stock 6.0.1 with the july update(phone model 2303, locked bootloader, no root, no recovery) Today, I don't know why, all my apps started crashing. I mean all. Dialer, album, music, whatsapp, chrome... Turning my phone off and on did nothing. I tried several times. As everything was working great a just a few hours ago (and for years before that), I thought a factory reset could fix it. It didn't. Now phone starts with that first launch set-up thing and I keep getting errors of various apps crashing and the device does not proceed beyond the initial set-up.
So, I thought flashing a rom could fix it, however I can't seem to do that. I have flashtool however when I go into flashmode I can't see my phone. I have installed the fastboot and flashmode drivers, however couldn't find the xperia m4 aqua drivers on the driver list. Flashtool detects my phone on fastboot mode, but not in flashmode. I have read the guides, still no solutions.
Any suggestions on what to do?
edit: I have found "xperia m4 aqua" drivers on Sony's website, but Windows claims they are not suitable for my device and does not install them.
SOLVED: Using an older version of Flashtool worked for me. I used version 9.18
