Hello. I have huge problems with my modem. My baseband version is I9100XXMS4 (I installed it together with new ROM, since it was included in another ZIP file). But after some battery problems I noticed that my phone signal is quite low and RIL battery usage is very high. So I downloaded an app in Google Market called GetRIL, and it reported that my baseband and RIL doesn't match and recommended installing matching RIL(i9100XXMS4). After installing it, the signal immediately jumped up from two bars to all four, but new problems arose. I couldn't call anyone & when someone called my phone, it didn't show that anyone was calling (I could receive messages and browse internet with mobile network though). So I thought that I should try different RILs and see if they fix my problem. As I found out that with other RILs I could call people, but still couldn't receive no notification that they are calling me. In the end, I was again stuck with the starting RIL ( KitKat( I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8 ) ). Now there are no problems, but my signal is two-three bars.
Could anyone link me to correct baseband, so I could get good signal with no problems. I asked my friend, who has the same phone as me, just not rooted and his baseband version was I9100XXMS2, but I couldn't find any links to it anywhere on the internet.
Some information if it is useful:
Android version - 4.4.4
Location: Latvia (Europe)
Thanks.

Here is the link to the zip to reinstall the modem. It includes the proper ril that comes with the modem. Next time, don't use getril. It is a horrible app as it is inaccurate and is known to cause damage to phones.
Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qmisbpdqi5mjhbq/ModemRIL_XXMS4.zip
All I can say is that I can't help you with low signal. You will have to experiment since I don't live in your country and don't have the same carrier.

Thanks for the help and advice. Unfortunatly I have been inactive for 3 days, so the dropbox link has expired(?). I was woundering would you have link for XXMS2, becuase I am sure that it's going to work fine, since my friend has it (he has the same phone) and I was unable to find link to it online. If you don't have it, then could you please share the same XXMS4 again?
Thanks.

Hi guys,
After rooting my s2 I put the helly bean 4.1.2 ROM. Everything works fine, except the maps.
Post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940321 for the custom ROM.
I cant get any location with 3g or GPS enabled with the Google maps. And I have it enabled from the location access in the settings.
It says always 'your current location is temporarily unavailable' and I can't fix it.
If I am connected to a WiFi then it works, but if I am home I don't need it.
Does anybody know what to do? I am using maps almost every day and now i cant.

My network signal in general you mean ? it is good , but comparing to other phones near me (from friends) , it could be better!
How can i flash an other modem ? is it worth it ?
Well...you could try that. It can't never hurt.
Might want to search for Flashing modems thread, you're gonna bump into Odin there.

Thank you very much , i am searching for a modem in my region , otherwise i will just flash any of them and see what happens.
In sammobile.com which file should i download? Where it says download the files are big , i think these are ROMs. (when i was flashing a rom i also downloaded from there my original rom in case something happens)
hmmm..I'm pretty sure there are modems there too, I dunno.
But yeah, go ahead and change modems to see what happens with that crazy gps and all.
I have been getting terrible service lately after the last cm10 update. I think I need to update my baseband but heck if I can find a list or even links to download them.
I'm on CM10.1 20130511 with baesband L710VPBLJ7
located in the US
A link or any info would be great.

Hi guys,
I'm having a very weird issue with the latest omni rom nightly (http://dl.omnirom.org/i9100/omni-4.4.3-20140618-i9100-NIGHTLY.zip).
I'm loosing signal every couple of seconds (see attached screenshots).
Before using this 4.4.3 Omni rom build I was using a 4.4.2 Omni rom build (released in May 2014).
Before installing this 4.4.3 Omni rom I have done a full wipe (cache/dalvic/data/system).
Because of this connectivity issue, I'm experiencing a battery drain that consumes my battery in 5 hours (even using Greenify).
I'm fully rooted using SuperSu v2.
I would like to use a 4.4.3 rom without this issue (if possible).
Ps: I've been using Omni for a very long time and I like it a lot. I've heard CM11 for SG2 is not that stable yet and there some battery drain issues and also an issue with the camera. Nos sure if I should give it a try.
Thanks in advance,
Roberto.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Your idea help me to find something very strange on my phone.
Please check the attached scheenshots. Compare than and you will see what is going on when I lose signal.
Also, it's strange that this rom cannot recognize my number from the SIM card.
I have another smartphone for testing (Moto X) and I can load my SIM card in there and see my IMEI and all the information that is stored in the SIM card.
Thanks once again for your time and help!

Well, I think this is the issue I'm facing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/signal-dropping-constantly-t1776211/page4
I'm happy I'm not the only one!
Not sure if changing the modem would help. I have check APN, changing from auto select network operator to manually selected, selecting only 2G network, nothing has worked so far.
I have also posted that link as I was facing the same issue few days back. in my case, it was waterlogged mainboard which I had to get replaced.
Anyways, you can try flashing different modems, not sure whether it will help or not but there is nothing much we can do in this case.
Maybe at the hardware side, your antenna module is not functioning properly. Get that checked too if nothing else works.

Funny thing was that I flashed an old Omni 4.4.2 build (February 2014) and after a couple of reboots it seems to be working fine...
I can't tell if it was the modem or something else... now I'm using exactly the same modem version (I9100XXLS8) as before but on this old build it just works perfect...
I've seen the Omni guys are about to introduce 4.4.4 on the next build. I will wait a few weeks before giving it a try...
Thanks for your help and time so far!

You should have seen my happy face when I saw my phone working again!
I have replied on the omnirom 4.4.X thread for SG2 as I would like to know if somebody else has experienced this with the latest builds.
I investigated a bit and it seems modems do not come with builds. However, there might be something in that 4.4.3 build that the modem didn't like.
I'm wondering if I would experience the same once 4.4.4 is released by Omni.
Time will tell...
The wifi on my Samsung S3 GT-I9300 device won't work. It just toggles on/off/on/off when I attempt to turn it on. I purchased the phone with the following already installed on it:
CWM
SuperSU
Android Version 4.2.2
Kernel Version - (says here in the about screen) 3.0.31-611730
Build number - Omega v45 - XXUFME3
I've done a LOT of searching here on XDA but I just find myself lost in a world of information. I found a video on youtube, but it's for the S4 and doesn't offer links to the correct files for the S3. Some have told me flash a new ROM and other a new Kernel, but because of version numbers, and not wanting to brick this phone... i'm not sure where to start...
Please would someone be willing to help me out? I am living in Honduras and the service I use is prepay here.. wifi is a HUGE money savings for me here. Many thanks to whoever is willing...
If it is an i9300 then download a stock firmware from sammobile that will work in your country (3G signal). Follow the guide in general forum on how to flash. Factory reset in recovery before first boot.
Test wifi before you install or restore anything, if still the same then it's a hardware fault.

any ideas on what I might be able to do?

Unexpected end of file means you have a corrupt download. Just download the firmware file again. If all else fails, look for a post in the S3 General thread regarding a complete back to stock method.

Wifi is related to kernel if you have changed roms ( which also changes kernel) then most likely it is hardware fault you could try flashing just a custom kernel and if the problem is still there then it is most likely hardware issue.

Yikes. Two words I was definitely hoping it was not.
Well.. I suppose it couldn't hurt to attempt a custom kernel, so the next question would be... any advice on which kernel I should attempt, and how exactly do I flash a kernel?

You need a custom recovery(Philz touch), flash it through odin. Than download googymax2 and copy it to your sd card. Than enter in recovery mode and flash the kernel.

Maybe a clean new install of your rom? In philz touch recovery select "clean to install a new rom". than install it. after that, wipe cache and dalvik cache
