Dear Users,
I am a lenovo P780 User for around a year. Need your help here.. Have used multiple ROMs for our phone. However keep getting issues with the phone signal. Few examples
1. Signal gradually drops and restarts even at a same location
2. Instances where the call is on and the voice on the other side softens and is loud again
Have used both v23 and V24 modems, Any recommendations for a stable mobile signal ??

Hi.
Since no one responded you till now, i will say to you as follows: you must try modem software for yourself.
Here is the link with some modem software: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/general/how-modems-t2757923
Try, test and see what is the best modem for you.
Good Luck.

I tried JB recently but since then I have had almost none existent Wifi. It tries to connect but then says Authentication failed.
I appreciate there is a known issue with JB roms not having an updated Bootloader or something of that nature, and I have also read that it is possible to fix the issue by using Odin to revert back to stock.
These are the steps I have taken:
1. Flash Stock Rom using Odin.
2. Reflash Stock Rom using Odin but also updating bootloader.
I have heard that the above steps do indeed fix the issue, but unfortunately I have found no evidence to suggest that.
As there are many people using JB now (well at least there are plenty of ASOP and Stock JB roms knocking about), has anyone else had this issue, and if so, has anyone got a nice step-by-step tutorial on fixing the Wifi issue?
I really need help now, as my phone is almost unusable without a Wifi connection.
Thanks in advance!

There was an issue about wifi in older leaks but it has been solved already. I suggest you should try latest jellybean leak XXDLI1. you will not have to full wipe... so dont worry. you will not lose any data or app or anything....
I've just installed CheckROM EVO HD 5.0 and my Wifi signal is still weak.
You mentioned in your reply that Wifi is fixed in newer JB builds, but why didn't it work going back to ICS stock either?
Really need an answer for this as I'm going round in circles.
I actually never tried going back to ICS.when I had the same problem I just flashed the newer JB and it worked like charm. Try installing different modem..

Does the modem really affect Wifi? I would assume that the modems only relate to the GSM capabilities of the phone.

In that case restore to ICS and wait for JB to be released by Samsung .

As you said before that you already installed back ics which also has different kernel than jb that you used and it didn't worked as well, so tests why I said TRY installing different modem.

why not just download a different rom? lots of custom roms such as hypergalaxy are nice light and basically stock but faster
Problem found!
Ok....I've found the problem.
It appears that my WIFI refuses to connect to any WIFI running on the 2.4Ghz spectrum. Whether I set security as Open/WEP/WPA/WPA2 etc I cannot connect unless I am literally within a metre of the Access Point.
Luckily at my workplace we have 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz spectrums available for WIFI. If I only allow the 5Ghz spectrum on my phone I can connect to the APs without an issue! Leaving my phone on 'Auto', allowing both 2.4 and 5 I cannot connect.
The problem here is, my home router, as with most people, doesn't support 5Ghz, and being with Sky Broadband I cannot get access to my Broadband account details. This of course means I cannot replace my router! :-/ I can however connect a new router to the network, disable AP on the Sky router and enable AP on the new 5Ghz router.
....so I have a work-around!
But this isn't enough! WHY WHY WHY does my phone have problems with 2.4Ghz???
Steps I have taken (in no particular order):
Flashed back to Stock, gone from Stock to Rooted ICS, ICS to JB, back again, and in every combination
Disabled Wireless Power-saving on my phone
Flashed various kernels
Flashed various modems (yes I know modems have nothing to do with Wifi...but some people on this forum insist this can fix Wifi issues)
....and NONE of the above have worked.
Could this be a hardware issue?
Anyone else experience this?
Hi there, I'm new here and hope you can give me some help. I have a galaxy S2 i9100.
I struggled to update using kies so I decided to look into rooting and flashing a custom rom. I ended up using Odin and flashed Beanstalk 4.4 ROM. I really liked it but I now have awful reception and mobile data doesn't work(yes its switched on). I'm on 3 network in Ireland. Will flashing a different ROM sort this problem?
Model no. GT-i9100

Thanks.

No, but maybe it's a good start by trying the specific modem. I needs to be a modem specific for i9100
Remember to back-up!
Great. Thanks for the help, I'll report back later.
So I installed 'i9100XXKE7'
Now if I search for network operators I get Vodafone,Meteor and O2 but no 3. This happened on the last modem too.
*edit* Tried a second modem, got same results.

If so, choose that other provider.

Make sure the files you are flashing is modem only not modem+ril.
Give me a download if the file you used.
By the way try this modem http://d-h.st/nJF its XXMS4 one of the "better" universal modems. Well not exactly universal but so far many from all over the world have not much issues with it.
I got a status 7 error when trying to install that one using CWM 6.0.4.5

If your imei number(settings, about phone, status) is unknown, empty or 004999010640000, you need to restore backup efs folder.
And try modem ls8.

my imei number is fine
You should just try another rom, you can flash it via cwm, if that doesn't work, learn what modem your stock rom has and go from there.
I have tried all these modems *sigh* but still having big problems with networks. My phone is 60% of the time off on both sims, sometimes one does better sometimes the other.
Certain modems are better than others but are far from stable.
On my previous P780 with V51+S820.zip I had no problems getting a signal.
I'm on SLXROM v25a currently.
I am out of ideas, may this be a faulty HW?
I have the same problem with my p780. It is a Chinese model, 4GB internal memory.
I successfully installed the P780_ROW_S124_140403 ROM, and tried many baseband firmare versions. Among the others:
V51_modem.S820.for.P780 (currently installed);
V16_modem_P780;
V52_modem.S920.for.P780
V52_modem_P780
I downloaded all relevant zip files from a Russian site (Lenovo-forum, i Russia).
But I did not solve my problems, I continue having the same issues described in the previous post.
Any ideas on that?
Thank you very much

I sent my phone back to the seller as a warranty complaint. I will have the phone pack this week, when it arrives I will update the info about signal reception in this thread.
Ok I got my phone back. The anser was, the error had not occured and they sent it back. At first I was outraged and did not even turn on the phone for one day. Later I saw the reception is indeed stable on both sims.
The current version of software on the phone from the service center is this:
P780_S125_130529
P780 V15 2013/05/27

In the service centre they have flashed a rom with modem V15 2013/05/27 which apparently is the only single modem that works with my phone.
I migrated the modem.img file from the rom to slx rom and it works like a charm.
Later I realized the V15 was also present in Stympy's modem's thread .
1 month ago I tested all modems in Stympy's thread dunno if it wasn't there 1 month ago I guess I missed it.

Hi guys,
I'm having a very weird issue with the latest omni rom nightly (http://dl.omnirom.org/i9100/omni-4.4.3-20140618-i9100-NIGHTLY.zip).
I'm loosing signal every couple of seconds (see attached screenshots).
Before using this 4.4.3 Omni rom build I was using a 4.4.2 Omni rom build (released in May 2014).
Before installing this 4.4.3 Omni rom I have done a full wipe (cache/dalvic/data/system).
Because of this connectivity issue, I'm experiencing a battery drain that consumes my battery in 5 hours (even using Greenify).
I'm fully rooted using SuperSu v2.
I would like to use a 4.4.3 rom without this issue (if possible).
Ps: I've been using Omni for a very long time and I like it a lot. I've heard CM11 for SG2 is not that stable yet and there some battery drain issues and also an issue with the camera. Nos sure if I should give it a try.
Thanks in advance,
Roberto.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Your idea help me to find something very strange on my phone.
Please check the attached scheenshots. Compare than and you will see what is going on when I lose signal.
Also, it's strange that this rom cannot recognize my number from the SIM card.
I have another smartphone for testing (Moto X) and I can load my SIM card in there and see my IMEI and all the information that is stored in the SIM card.
Thanks once again for your time and help!

Well, I think this is the issue I'm facing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/signal-dropping-constantly-t1776211/page4
I'm happy I'm not the only one!
Not sure if changing the modem would help. I have check APN, changing from auto select network operator to manually selected, selecting only 2G network, nothing has worked so far.
I have also posted that link as I was facing the same issue few days back. in my case, it was waterlogged mainboard which I had to get replaced.
Anyways, you can try flashing different modems, not sure whether it will help or not but there is nothing much we can do in this case.
Maybe at the hardware side, your antenna module is not functioning properly. Get that checked too if nothing else works.

Funny thing was that I flashed an old Omni 4.4.2 build (February 2014) and after a couple of reboots it seems to be working fine...
I can't tell if it was the modem or something else... now I'm using exactly the same modem version (I9100XXLS8) as before but on this old build it just works perfect...
I've seen the Omni guys are about to introduce 4.4.4 on the next build. I will wait a few weeks before giving it a try...

You should have seen my happy face when I saw my phone working again!
I have replied on the omnirom 4.4.X thread for SG2 as I would like to know if somebody else has experienced this with the latest builds.
I investigated a bit and it seems modems do not come with builds. However, there might be something in that 4.4.3 build that the modem didn't like.
I'm wondering if I would experience the same once 4.4.4 is released by Omni.
Time will tell...
Hello. I have huge problems with my modem. My baseband version is I9100XXMS4 (I installed it together with new ROM, since it was included in another ZIP file). But after some battery problems I noticed that my phone signal is quite low and RIL battery usage is very high. So I downloaded an app in Google Market called GetRIL, and it reported that my baseband and RIL doesn't match and recommended installing matching RIL(i9100XXMS4). After installing it, the signal immediately jumped up from two bars to all four, but new problems arose. I couldn't call anyone & when someone called my phone, it didn't show that anyone was calling (I could receive messages and browse internet with mobile network though). So I thought that I should try different RILs and see if they fix my problem. As I found out that with other RILs I could call people, but still couldn't receive no notification that they are calling me. In the end, I was again stuck with the starting RIL ( KitKat( I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8 ) ). Now there are no problems, but my signal is two-three bars.
Could anyone link me to correct baseband, so I could get good signal with no problems. I asked my friend, who has the same phone as me, just not rooted and his baseband version was I9100XXMS2, but I couldn't find any links to it anywhere on the internet.
Some information if it is useful:
Android version - 4.4.4
Location: Latvia (Europe)
Thanks.

Here is the link to the zip to reinstall the modem. It includes the proper ril that comes with the modem. Next time, don't use getril. It is a horrible app as it is inaccurate and is known to cause damage to phones.

All I can say is that I can't help you with low signal. You will have to experiment since I don't live in your country and don't have the same carrier.
