Creating a custom FTF of CM or AOSP? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Ok so after I posted a previous question about not having bootloader access, I've realized there is something wrong with my xzu. HOWEVER, I CAN get into flash mode to flash factory firmware. The bootloader was unlocked using a tool that I downloaded, but without access to the bootloader, I can't flash any custom recovery so I can flash a different rom.
My question is: Can an FTF file be created from CM, or aosp, and flashed using flashtool? There is a guide over at xperiablog (Here), but they don't mention anything about non-official firmwares, and I don't see any in the forums here, so I'm assuming that it's either not possible, or not worth the effort for most people.
Can this be done? I have no other options.

I'll take a video of it tomorrow. It doesn't want to respond to fastboot. I never get the blue light when booting holding volume up. It just blinks amber and green real fast, then it's in flash mode no matter what I do. And like I said, I used some tool to do the boot loader unlock, I think it may have even been flashtool.

Okay you must reflash the stock kitkat Firmware, that is the onliest way to recover the fastboot mode.

[Xperia P]Flashing a kernel over official ICS

Hello there
Yesterday i did the root trick for 6.1.1.B.1.54 with flashtool, where you downgrade to an earlier kernel (.544) in flashmode, push superSU and then upgrade again to .54.
In the dev forum for the Xperia P i have found the Sliding_XP kernel, which i want to install.
The question is, do I need an unlocked bootloader to do this? Or is it just flashable via flashtool?
Also, it says in the kernel's thread that the package also contains CWM recovery. That removes the fastboot mode, right? (since it is accessible via vol down, same as for fastboot)
Sorry for sounding like an xda-noob (Yeah, i've seen the video and I should hate myself).
Thanks in advance!
It doesn't remove anything.
Volume down is for flashmode btw.
Sent from my Xperia U using xda premium
Oh, sorry. I rechecked and yeah, it is the flash mode. fastboot is volume up.
The question remains: Do i heed an unlocked bootloader to install this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002202
As I said, i have the rooted 6.1.1.B.1.54 update, and my bootloader is locked, no other hacks have been done to the phone

I see. I know that OTA updates are no longer available upon unlocking your bootloader, nor some services such as trackid (which doesn't bother me), or Download muic info in the walkman app. Are there any more disadvantages?
Also, when Sony releases the official promised JB update, the only way to update it will be with the ftf file, right?

First of all OTA updates not available and others you know that.....
next is your warranty will be void most probably......
Sony officially said that it wont release JB for SOLA so anyhow you wont require OTA for that......
and i bet you will get JB only through XDA.......

I don't have a sola, i have a P
Alright, so I have unlocked my bootloader. (Horray.) It did delete everything, but for some reason, SuperSU is still there.I hope that rooting before unlocking the BL did not do anything bad to it.
As a total noob who doesn't want to brick his phone, someone please tell me what exactly i need to do now in order to install the kernel mentioned above
In other words, how exactly do you install kernels? With recovery? I don't have that installed in my phone. Also it says that the kernel comes bundled with CWM. This confuses me.
What mode do I need to select in order to flash it on my Xperia P? Flashmode or Fastboot?
Also, in case anything goes wrong and my phone gets bricked while flashing, is there any chance that the phone might be permanently bricked, as in not revivable via either entering fastboot or flashmode to flash a new official fresh firmware file?

Since you have unlocked bootloader flash boot image of desired custom rom using fastboot and then flash rom and gapps via recovery.

You don't need to run an exploit to gain root.
Once you have an unlocked bootloader all you have to do is flash a kernel with recovery, boot into recovery and then flash SuperSU - more or less

Ya you dont need to root before installing Roms like CM,PA,etc. as they are already prerooted.
For safer side you can always flash Super Su.zip in recovery after flashing custom rom like CM,PA.

But you do need root to back up the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader before being able to boot roms like PA, CM etc
I don't want to open another threat but is there any way to root 290 (4.3) on my C6833? Do I need to go down first? My bootloader is still locked and I would like to backup TA partition firs just in case. So first I need to do is get SU in somehow to be able to backup TA. After that I will be rrady for bootloader I guess.
So is there any way to rot 290? I did try some methods but non of them works. I really need that GPE on me ZU. :fingers-crossed:

Root with restore by byn4ry v33 did not work on my c6833 (option 3). The proces just stopped after restore screen on Zu. If I downgrade my Zu then I will also have older baseband. If i downgrade, root and go back to 290 will i loose root? Is there any way to keep it? All I am trying to do is keep latest baseband with GPE rom.

<SIGH>
Downgrade to .532 ftf (you will lose IMEI and cell reception if on .290)
Root with Bin4ry's tool - option 0
Back up TA
Unlock bootloader
Flash .290 ftf (all of it)
install recovery (look in the general thread for jackies post - read the unlocked BL thread) or flash the one in the rom if it has recovery
boot into recovery
flash GPe ROM
???
proffit
all of the above is off the top of my head as I cant be buggered to look it all up, but YOU should. Don't blame me if you brick the phone etc
Do all of the above with the latest flashtool etc and a full battery - avoid black cats

There's no 'one-click' rooting procedure.
There are, however, very detailed, in-depth, easy-to-follow instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904
It takes the slightest bit of effort to find all the information you're looking for - at least try.

You unlock the bootloader to enable boot custom kernels not made by Sony. If you relock it won't boot custome kernels because the bootloader is "locked" to boot Sony kernels only.
You wank kitkat, bootloader must be unlockedm and there is no real reason you will want to relock your phone.

Well one thing is that I cannot update my PC Companion to a newer version so I cannot restore a backup and I read that this is because of the unlocked bootloader. Also there are occasional reboots of the phone with no particular reason.

PC companion is updated regardless of your bootloader, it will update without a phone being connected.
I don't think you can restore backups to custom non-tock-based ROMs with PCC anyway, you must choose stock(or custom stock-based) or custom ROM.
If you want to re-lock, you must use stock ROM and kitkat does not work with it.

[Q] Factory Reset to Flash Custom ROM Bricks Phone

The other day, I set about installing Cyanogenmod 11 on my Xperia Z2 D5603. I was already rooted on the stock rom 4.4.4 Kitkat 23.0.1.A.0.167. I used flashtool to downgrade to 4.4.2 17.1.2.A.0.314, rerooted it, and installed dualrecovery from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
But upon choosing reboot after flashing the custom ROM via TWRP, the phone went dark, and wouldn't turn on. The only response I got was a quick vibration every second or two if I hold down the power button. I could not access recovery either.
I was able to revive it by using flashtool to reflash 4.4.2 17.1.2.A.0.314. I tried the same procedure with AOKP ROM, which had the same result. After trying many different things, I realized that factory reset, or wiping 'system' under advanced wipe would cause this to happen. Flashing without factory reset either returns an error, or finishes, but doesn't actually flash the ROM (stock ROM boots)
How to I flash a ROM without this happening? Any help is appreciated.
Have you unlocked your bootloader? It doesn't sound like it.
These roms require another kernel and you need to unlock your bootloader to install it.

Hmm no.
Root ! = unlocked bootloader.
Go to the sony website ( http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader) to get instructions to unlock your bootloader.
But with your first assumption in mind, I suggest you read up about it first. Understand the risks and limitations.

Can´t unlock Bootloader

Hello,
situation ist this:
Cyanogen Recovery is installed and there is no rom on the phone. But it won't install a new one through apply update. So I tried installing twrp through fast boot. But it failed with:
FAILED (remote: Device not unlocked cannot flash or erase)
So i tried to unlock it which gave me:
FAILED (remote: oem unlock is disabled)
oem devices gave me tampered = false and unlocked = false
What can I do.
Would appreciate help

Flash stock recovery and try unlock again.
Dumb Question but how exactly do I do that?
Just flash it via fast boot? And where do i get it?

You dont need to be sorry, thats okay i jus asked... Maybe OP didnt enable oem unlocking.
I didnt enable oem unlocking because it wasnt necessary. The device was unlocked and twrp and cyanogenmod were installed. But somehow cyanogen recovery was installed. Super user was away and I tried to reinstall it. Not knowing the recovery had changed I chose twrp/cwm to install it what resulted in a boot loop. No problem I thought just flash a ROM which didn't worked. No problem just flash a proper recovery it didn't worked. And somehow the device is locked again..
Sorry I was little brief when I said flash stock recovery. I believe if you revert back completely stock you can start the process from the beginning again. That would mean fastboot flash stock recovery then any firmware of OnePlus X. I'm not sure how a bootloader can relock itself.

So I just remembered something was able to help someone else with a similar issue. If you can boot Into something and your rooted download the app Rashr. With it you can flash stock recovery and be back in business.
