How did you get Google voice working? When I install it, I go through the setup process, and when I get to the section about setting up voicemail (which obviously won't work) I get an error.
I believe the choices on the error are "cancel" (which let's you try again, to no avail obviously) or "skip". When I press skip, it just dumps me back to the same page of the setup I'm on (voicemail), but both the back and forward buttons are greyed out...
Now, the funny thing is that Google Voice is now running! If I get a text, it pops up in the notification bar. But if I want to go into Google Voice manually and write a text, I can't because I can't get past the setup process...very annoying.
I also use Google Voice on a real phone (HTC Magic on t-Mobile) using the same Google account....would that make a difference?
someone did a mod to the voice .apk, I don't remember which forum I got it from. I will put it on my dropbox and post the link here in a few. The modified .apk allows you to skip the phone settings part where you got stuck.
update:
I didn't think I would find it this quick on my computer. I uninstalled google voice then reinstalled using this one and it works like a champ

Thanks, that worked perfectly! I wasn't able to uninstall the old version (said it was a system app, not uninstallable), so I installed the new one right on top of the old one, no trouble.
You can also just upgrade to the current Google Voice in the market. The skip button works fine in it.

sweet, then I'll pull my super secret dropbox version off.
Hello everyone,I'll start with some quick background. I finally updated my S4 from ME7 to MK2, and rooted it using saferoot. For a while, I haven't been able to update samsung apps, such as s health. I figured it was related to me being behind, but now it doesn't appear so.
Samsung App store just doesn't work for me. No matter if i try to update an existing app, or get any new app, when I click the free button (which I presume installs and/or updates the app), the app dims and there is a spinning circle in the middle of the screen. I see this same circle when loading new parts of the app store for the first time, so it is certainly indicating something is loading. I have even tried gettign a small game that was only 1MB and let it sit for 20 minutes, came back and it was still spinning. I updated the app by going to samsungapps.com in the browser, I tried clearing the cache or the data of the app, nothing seems to work.
S Voice/TTS - Upon firing up S voice, I was greeted with a very unpleasant robotic voice I had never heard before. Going into my language settings, I find it is using the samsung regular english us voice, not the high quality one. If I go to install voice data, and sample english (united states), it's the voice I'm used to! unfortunately it wants me to download the voice file, which is in Samsung Apps. Which doesn't work. Oddly, if I fire up google maps and have the navigation start taking me somewhere, it's using the proper voice! So that must mean I still have the voice file somewhere on the phone!
TL;DR
Samsung App Store hangs when trying to install/update any app
Samsung high quality TTS voice gone from s voice, yet still in use in maps/nav
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Sorry to hear about your problem. If I understand correctly, you went to the Samsung website and tried to update the app? Here is the download link for Samsung apps application. I would re-install the Samsung Apps application and try to install the voice file.

Hi nolethemole, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that did not help. i tried re installing, but it didn't work at first. I went into app manager, and uninstalled updates (can't remove it), and then I was able to install the file again. I followed your link, even though that's where I got it before, I figured maybe the download was bad. I am thinking perhaps something is left over from before the update. The update installed optical reader too, but upon firing it up it says it needs additional files, which of course, it can't download from the app store. I hate it, but I'm going to have to do a 100% wipe and reflash the full update. If that doesn't do it I guess I'll be returning it to Verizon as defective. Too many problems with this phone.

Try clearing your cache and data. Then, remove your samsung account then add it again.
Well I tried clearing data and cache, before you mentioned it and after, to no avail. As far as I can tell, there's no way to remove the samsung account. I gave up and did the full flash, phone is like new now. I'm starting the high quality download, and it's actually working. Something wonky must have carried over with the no wipe option for the update. Oh well, in the future I'll know to always do a full wipe.

Contacted VZW support because after the OTA Kitkat update (stock ROM) on my SCH-i545, using the keyboard mic suddenly doesn't pause my music (Play Music or Pandora). All previous Android versions on two phones have paused music when using the mic for voice-to-text.
VZW rep "doesn't think" it's supposed to work that way anyway. Voice-to-text works (if I stop any music manually) and the music apps work, so no problem. (Arrogant bastard.)
So, can I please get any of you with a stock S4 running Kitkat to test whether when playing music in Google Play Music or Pandora, and clicking the mic button on the Samsung keyboard in the stock SMS app, the music pauses until you're done with voice-to-text?? The VZW rep couldn't say with authority whether it was supposed to work or not, and seemed reluctant to find out. If it works for a number of you out there, I want to tell VZW this.
Note: In Settings under My device/Language and input, I have the Samsung keyboard and Google voice typing enabled, the latter of which provides the mic button on the keyboard.

Thanks, k1mu. I use it in the SMS app, and it's always stopped music from playing while the mic was active. Coworker here with my identical phone/OS tested and it stopped, too. Stupid VZW rep just didn't want to deal with this one-off issue.

k1mu - Interestingly, the music does stop for me for a voice search in Google Search. What happens if you're playing music and hit the mic button on the Samsung keyboard in the SMS app?
So I just reset the phone. Didn't sign in with my Google account. Tested, and music DOES pause when I use the keyboard microphone button in SMS! Now to reinstall apps ONE AT A TIME until I find the offending app. Grrr!
Found the culprit! Factory Reset phone. Did not allow phone to reinstall my downloaded apps. Updated default apps until one of them broke the function. Google Search broke it. Will not allow Google Search to update from now on.

Yeah, thanks! Tested this on a coworker's phone. Identical VZW SCH-i545 with stock OTA 4.4.2. He had the Google Search update and his keyboard mic button DID pause music... until he put the Google Search widget on his desktop. Once he did that, or used Search, it broke the pause function. I guess the issue doesn't show up unless you have the widget on your desktop or use Google Search. I have the widget and use it, so that's an issue for me.
Posted in Google's Google Search forum. I guess we'll see if someone at Google picks up on that...
I downgraded to "Google Search 3.2.17.1009776" and problem solved. Music now pauses when using the Google Voice Input. There's an apk repository here on androiddrawer.

Thank you for tracking down the cause of the issue and the fix. I was just trying to figure it out on my VZW LG G2 when I ran across this thread.
Do we know if there is an entry in the Google issue tracker for this bug? I would love to be able to update Google Search at some point.

Anybody find an issue tracker? I'd like to spread visibility of this issue. I've sent feedback through the app.

I never was able to find a reference to this issue on any of the tracker sites, but I wasn't sure where to look. I am like you, though, I haven't been able to update Google Search. I hope the next Google Search update fixes this problem, but I am skeptical.
Just as an update, the newest version of Google search doesn't fix this issue.
That is the update released June 25.

You need to go to Settings -> Application Manager and find "Google Search". Hit the "Uninstall Updates" button. To be safe, I would clear the app's data, too. Then you can install the older version.
Be sure the find the Google Search page in the Play Store and turn off automatic updates.
Thank you for the quick reply, however I tried that before posting ...there is no "uninstall updates" tab

Are you running Xposed..., if you are disable it and reboot a couple times, could be from that. Just happens sometimes. If you're getting it that one time and nothing bad is actually happening don't worry.
Thanks. No, not running xposed. I may not worry about it if it's not affecting anything. Just see it on reboots.

Has anyone been able to get any other Android Lollipop apk files working? I cannot get gmail, google music, calendar, fitness, etc. to work on a rooted G3.
gmail, music, and others get the error message "application not installed because an app with the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed"
calendar just won't install at all, giving the error "not installed"
fitness installs but upon opening requires an update through the play store, but the play store is unable to find the app
I am running the latest version of google play services (6.1.83), on jasmine ROM with xposed installed and the "show all apps in play store" 240 dpi mod enabled as well as the G3 tweaksbox.
I could try going into the system/app folder and removing the gmail and music apks so I can update them, but I haven't tried it yet. mostly I'm concerned about the fitness app.
EDIT: I also tried the keyboard, and that installed okay, but any time I wanted to type any text the cursor would show up but no keyboard would show.
Thanks!

You could try removing the stock ones with TiBu then wiping cache and dalvic then try to install again.
If you back them up first using TiBu you'll be fine in case that doesn't pan out.

I tried this. Google music and lollipop keyboard are working. Fitness.apk gives the same error as before, Gmail quits on boot (repeatedly) and if renamed to Gmail2.apk, downloads an "update" from the play store that reverts it back to the 4.4 version (previously the farthest I could get was "welcome to the new gmail" and you can watch a video about the changes, but once you say "Ok, got it", it force closes. Clearing the gmail data prevents the force closing at boot, but will not allow the app to get past the "ok, got it" screen.

Do u happen to have the newest version of play store installed? Just checking.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
I think so - I am using play store 5.0.32, play services 6.1.83. both install just fine on 4.4.2. I also tried everything with the previous 4.9.X versions of both, but that wasn't very productive.
I tried removing the gmail apk and all instances of com.google.android.gm, which I could find in /system/app, /data/app, and /data/data, then installing the gmail 5.0 apk or placing it in /system/app and setting permissions to rw-r--r--. Both of these result in a "disabled" gmail, which can be "enabled" in the play store. Enabling results in multiple force closes and the app cannot be opened. I wiped the app data and tried again to no avail. I then resorted to deleting gmail 5.0 through TiBu, and then tried installing directly from the play store. This results in a "version not supported" error during download, and the installation can not be accomplished. At this point I tried reverting to gmail 4.9, but it can't be installed, giving the "application not installed" error after going through the installation process.
Fitness.apk still opens and requires an update through the play store which cannot be found.
I wiped everything and reinstalled JasmineROM this morning to get a working gmail. I will update gms and play store to 5.0 versions soon.
The keyboard Force closes in landscape.

Yea the messenger seems to not be working for those on Stock ROMs, maybe someone has figured out how to use on stock if it's possible but I'm not sure myself, as I've said before I'm not on stock so it's working fine for me.
Hopefully once bump comes out and AOSP ROMs are available for the masses, messenger can then be enjoyed by more people.

OK, I know a few days ago in the Google App/Settings I was able to toggle on "OK Google" hotword detection "From the Google app," "From any screen", and "personal results."
I happened to be in the Google settings last night and noticed I now only have one option - "From the Google app" and missing the other two! Has this happened to anyone else? I'm on the latest version of the Google app (4.4) but even if I uninstall updates (reverts to 4.0), I'm still missing those options.
EDIT: Sorry. I thought I was in Q&A when posting this. Feel free to move it.

Samsung on twitter just said this was removed / it's no longer a feature. Returning in 3...2...
Here's a workaround if you want to get the "Ok Google" functionality back that was removed thanks to the latest update.
Go into the Settings menu on your phone
Select "Applications" and then select Applications Manager"
Scroll to the right until you find the "All" column
Scroll down until you see "Google Search" then open it
Select "Uninstall Updates" and the app will revert back to the pre-loaded version of the app which has the "Ok Google" functionality
Also, make sure you open the play store app through your phone and find the Google app and go into it so you can deselect the "auto update" box in settings. That will prevent the play store from auto updating to the current version. Of course if an update comes out that works for you then you can manually update it in the play store or re-select auto update.
Hope this helps...

Doesn't work for me... uninstalled updates, still can't set up ok Google from any screen.
This didnt work for me,,,might have to do with a play services update.
What I ended up doing was adding the Google widget to the home screen. But that only works on the page of the home screen.
Doesn't work for me either. Have not found a way to get it back. Where the Samsung tweet BTW? Did they say why it was removed?
