So the phone is randomly rotating 90 degrees for no reason. Some times it cooperates, sometimes it's just spazzing out tilting back and forth rapidly, or refusing to go back to portrait at all. It's all over the place.
I am rooted and running busybox. Is there a module or any kind of app that I can use to assign a quick 90 degree rotate button to? Not an annoying drop down menu or anything that requires multiple presses. I'd love to just use a button in the digital navigation bar that would immediately rotate. I cant find any such function though.

Check out this thread; it may help you. Someone fixed their accelerometer using the app.
Edit: If that doesn't work, I use Xtended NavBar. It adds "pages" to your navigation bar and you can choose which toggles you'd like to have.

I grabbed the app and did the re-calibrate option. We'll see how it goes.
Edit: Nope, if anything it's worse now. Just watched it flip 6 times in a row, while holding it perfectly still.
Nope, sorry Xtended NavBar also doesn't work with this ROM it seems. Maybe it doesn't like the type of NavBar the phone uses.

Unfortunately, I can't think of anything else except either doing a factory reset or restoring an older backup from when everything was fine.
I am trying this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.androgames.level&hl=en
And holy hell, at first the bubble was just going in all random directions. Numbers were instantly going from 0 to 25 and such. Just possessed. Calibration and reset did nothing. Then I decided to go to recents, and hit the wipe brush to clear all. Instantly cured the sensor issues. Can a background process somehow be corrupting the sensor? I'm just hoping this is a software issue and not a hardware issue.
Edit: I've also completely uninstalled GravityBox and busybox. Maybe they were an issue. We'll see. If it still happens, I hope I can pinpoint the background app causing the issue by eliminating them one at a time in recent apps.
It turns out that clearing recent apps isn't fixing it after all. I just sat and stared at bubble level while tilting and it literally took 45 full seconds before it suddenly realized it was tilted. Its like the tilt sensor just goes to sleep randomly.
Edit: Ok I'm using this now https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate&hl=en
I set forced landscape and forced portrait modes to two different shortcut actions via the NavBar thanks to GravityBox. It'd be ideal if I could just make only one button that flips between the two modes, but this will do. I also disabled the notification from the rotate app because it was annoying. It seems fine without it.

This happens occasionally with Amazon apps, when I try to install an update. It's also just happened again when I bought the Humble Bundle of apps, and it won't install when I try to push the install button once I open the .apk. Anyone know a work-around or have experienced this as well?
I will restart and post my findings.

It's an app that just makes the screen more dim than even Android can. You can set a default dimming level too.
That's is a stupid, stupid bug too, but at least I know why and it's now documented here. Thanks all.
Has anyone had this problem more recently?
I've been experiencing it on CM 10.1 ROMs, and only a complete wipe and reflash seems to fix the problem.
It would seem that SOMEWHERE, I need to wipe some kind of data out, but I don't know what. I'm having this exact situation right this second. Can't hit 'next' or can't hit 'install'.
4/11+ CM 10.1.
I don't see that 'Screen Filter' application. Nothing in apps called that. Does it have a different name?
Thank You

Any persistant overlay may prevent usage of the "install" or "next" button when installing an app from the SD card, whether it's screen filter or HALO. Chat heads, Ninja SMS, floating battery stats, etc are all possible culprits.
This is a safety built into android to prevent an app from popping up an overlay over the required permissions list and showing a "safe" list of required permissions on top of the real list of persmissions that allow it to read your texts, pick your wallet, and root around in your underwear drawer.

My Saviours!
I would just like to give a hearty THANK YOU for this thread.
I have been bashing my head against the desk trying to figure out WHY the hell I could not press the install button.
I have Twilight installed that dims your screen based on time of day. I followed the directions of turning it off, and look at that, it worked.
So what have I learned today?
There is ALWAYS an asnwer for something to not work as normal. It is a matter of asking the right question to find that answer.
My GS5 keeps waking up in my pocket...I'm assuming that it is because the home button is being pressed. Is there a ROM out there that has pocket detection so that it won't wake up if it's in your pocket?

Thanks...just installed...so far, so good!
So I installed that ROM, and Faux123's kernel, and it appears to be working great. I wish there was true pocket detection so I didn't have to disable the home button wake, but this will work for now.
Some lock screen apps e.g. Dynamic notifications pro can be configured to do what you want. They monitor the proximity sensor to know when you pull the phone out of your pocket.

The problem with that tho is it polls the sensor, which drains battery. The air wake feature of our device checks the orientation of the device. I would like to change it so it works on all orientations so when removed from pocket it would wake. That would be the perfect setup.

You quoted multiple people who had disparate solutions. Speaking only for myself, I was talking about a lock screen app, not a ROM. And it can be configured to do what you are wishing for. Block accidental use of the home button when locked. Realize when it is pulled from a pocket and wake up.
And it satisfies your newly expressed requirement as well; namely that it is not harsh on battery life. If you search my post history, I even quantified the battery use for that app.

Its still using more battery then the system framework can. Therefore its harsh on the battery for people who wish to get 18+ hours on battery. I make apps. I know how to read proximity sensor values. and you need to keep the device awake in order to do it. Maybe using root it would be different.
Anyhow, i was nowhere bashing any app. I was simply stating that instead of replacing your entire lockscreen, you could hack into the already existing code and make it ignore the orientation of the device to achieve what the OP is after.
Nothing you said refutes my comments or their conclusion. So we'll just have to disagree on the subject.
Since I got my phone, I've noticed I often need to tap multiple times on the screen to "click" on what I want to open/activate. I never experienced something similar in the past with other devices.
At first, I thought it was a matter of screen sensitivity, but now I think it's more about the way the OS is registering taps.
See the following video: https://streamable.com/awblmr
There are two things:
If you click slightly above or on the side of an icon in the launcher, the app won't open. However, if you tap significantly below, it works fine (I prefer the latter behavior personally).
In chrome/bromite, if you swipe at the limit in between the tab icon and the status bar, it will both show tabs and pull the notifications.
Has anyone experienced this very irritating behavior? I mostly notice it when I want to do open apps, use the navigation bar, or type on the keyboard. It seems like it's a software "issue", so hopefully Google improves this.
I, too, am experiencing similar issues. I was chalking it up to the change from OP6t to the P6 until your post.

Good to know I'm not alone in this. I'm about to get a second unit, so I will do similar testing.
You are not alone. Same problem here with two Pixel 6 (mine and my wife's).
Just received my new unit, I have all the same display issues:
It feels cheap, especially in the middle:
https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1453025239537967105
Same rainbow effect when I tilt the phone
Same weird "touchscreen accuracy" as described here
Getting the unregistering taps on app icons. And also some lower app icon taps will open the app drawer. Both intermittently.

I've actually not seen this behavior. I do notice that the text below the icon seems to be part of the actual icon and if you click anywhere near that it will open the app. Other than that not really but I've only had it for a day or so. I have found that keeping my fingers moisturized eliminates errant touches and FP issues. Great for my skin but now I have to carry a little tube of Eucerine around.
I, too, was thinking it was just the slightly different keyboard position I still had to get used to...
I'm consistently having issues opening the emoji keyboard within Signal. I often have to repeatedly press the emoji button for the list to show up...

Same problems, especially on small items (like ships in Starfleet Command)
Definitely having this issue. With or without increased sensitivity. No screen protector.
Definitely experiencing touch accuracy issues in many places (pixel launcher, keyboard, quick settings, individual apps, settings, etc basically everywhere) I'd like to believe (hope) it's totally addressable in a software fix
I'm pretty sure the cause of this issue for me is that the phone is so big and heavy. It's hard for me to accurately touch the screen when my hand is struggling to hold the phone up.
This is part of why I hate the Pixel Launcher's "swipe up to open app drawer" gesture. It results in so many false positives when I'm just trying to click an icon, but the phone slips a bit and it gets registered as a swipe instead.

Thanks for this, its a very useful app! However, I just realised I don't really need it!
When I first setup the Find N, I set every app to Full Screen (as you do), thinking why wouldn't you want as much screen as possible for every app? Some of those apps will only display in portrait, hence the problem that when they start up on the folding screen, they automatically rotate 90 degress, and therefore you have to turn the device to portrait to use the app.
But I just realised that almost all the apps I have (like 99.9%) that will only display in portrait, do not need the extra width of the folding screen, and in fact end up stretched width wise. As such, if you just put those apps back to a 4:3 ratio rather than full screen (which still uses most of the screen), then they display on the folding screen in landscape (though with grey bars down each side). Another benefit is that they also don't look stretched anymore.
Great alternative, thanks.

No worries. Having just been through all my portrait apps and done this, I've also noticed that almost none of them benefit from the extra width even when they have it as they haven't been written to take advantage of it, so are either streched or have loads of space either side. Most are also the types of apps I don't care about using all the screen for, such as banking, parking, or food delivery, etc. All the apps that really benefit from spreading out such as messaging, media, video, and productivity apps, etc., already work in landscape and don't rotate.
I like to use side-by-side when unfolded, so this isn't an issue for me. Would be nice to easily swap out apps when I'm in SBS tho, currently I have to change one to floating, close it, then do the 2-finger ale again...

There is another one called Rotation mentioned above; however, other than I rarely need it anymore, it is not folding phone aware, and therefore you can't have different settings for the outer screen versus the inner screen, so if you force landscape on the inner screen then it will do the same on the outer screen.
Does this app allow you to set different preferences for the outer screen vs the inner screen?

Ah great, thanks for the info!
I love the forced rotation setting. Is there any way to have the settings attached to the system drop-down settings? For example, if I turn auto-rotate on the phone, it automatically turns on 'Forced Auto Rotate' from the app? Not sure if that's a possibility.
Since the last system update, the app no longer works properly for me. Does anyone else have this problem?

Not sure what to say here... I followed my instructions and was able to position it just fine.
One thing I can say is if you message the Dev, he's very responsive (he's even here on XDA (https://forum.xda-developers.com/m/jagan2.1884109/)) so you can message him and see if there is something he can help with.
I'll keep poking around and see if there was anything else I can think of that I did. I'll uninstall and reinstall to see if that can replicate what you are seeing and what I did to fix it.
Found the issue, my screen resolution is set to FHD+ and not WQHD+
If I change it to WQHD+ it's fine. I'll inform the dev.
Cheers.
