Can't push "install" soft-key buttons to install app - HTC Rezound

This happens occasionally with Amazon apps, when I try to install an update. It's also just happened again when I bought the Humble Bundle of apps, and it won't install when I try to push the install button once I open the .apk. Anyone know a work-around or have experienced this as well?
I will restart and post my findings.
For those who don't know what the Humble Bundle is, it's a bundle of four, great games, that YOU choose the price for. Read this article to learn a little more about it: Pay what you want for this Android Bundle

I couldn't install after reboot either...

So, that install button won't work for any .apk...

Turn off screen filter.. it blocks the install button for some reason.
This is not a glitch with phone or whatever.. its the screen filter app..disable it and hit install and it will work

It's an app that just makes the screen more dim than even Android can. You can set a default dimming level too.
That's is a stupid, stupid bug too, but at least I know why and it's now documented here. Thanks all.

Has anyone had this problem more recently?
I've been experiencing it on CM 10.1 ROMs, and only a complete wipe and reflash seems to fix the problem.
It would seem that SOMEWHERE, I need to wipe some kind of data out, but I don't know what. I'm having this exact situation right this second. Can't hit 'next' or can't hit 'install'.
4/11+ CM 10.1.
I don't see that 'Screen Filter' application. Nothing in apps called that. Does it have a different name?

Thank You

Any persistant overlay may prevent usage of the "install" or "next" button when installing an app from the SD card, whether it's screen filter or HALO. Chat heads, Ninja SMS, floating battery stats, etc are all possible culprits.
This is a safety built into android to prevent an app from popping up an overlay over the required permissions list and showing a "safe" list of required permissions on top of the real list of persmissions that allow it to read your texts, pick your wallet, and root around in your underwear drawer.

My Saviours!
I would just like to give a hearty THANK YOU for this thread.
I have been bashing my head against the desk trying to figure out WHY the hell I could not press the install button.
I have Twilight installed that dims your screen based on time of day. I followed the directions of turning it off, and look at that, it worked.
So what have I learned today?
There is ALWAYS an asnwer for something to not work as normal. It is a matter of asking the right question to find that answer.

screen off widget

hey all
I am looking for a widget that can simply turn the screen off, I press and the screen goes off.
I have searched but cant find anything that works
Thanks
I have seen a couple of apps in my travels go have a look in the android development I'm sure an xda member cooked one up a few weeks back, and from what i remember android does not switch off straight away like WM does it has a delay built in
I was looking for one of these some months ago.
I was told that there wasnt one which stopped the screen straight away, however I found on. UNFORTUNATELY, I can't find it again. (I am on my third Streak)
It wasn't badged as a screen off, but it was a single widget which locked the device (aka turned off the screen, as if you had pressed the power button)
I would love to find it again!
Screen off
http://android.konreu.com/applications/screen-off/
I don't see the point myself, why don't you just hit the power button
Yyhat link doesnt work no item found, the power button is in a weird spot for my liking and since i use no lock and open with th volume button
Then why don't you do a google search for an android app called 'scren off'

Pick up your android phone and go to somewhere called the 'android marketplace' you may even have an app already installed for that so no need to search for that thank goodness.
In the search bar enter 'sreen off' it should be at the top of the list
i have a question, maybe this is android related, maybe streak, not sure.
I come from WM6.5 background, so forgive me if this is a 'duh' question:
when I am listening to music, or recording or, anything really, if the screen turns off, it shuts the whole phone down. including wifi (loses connection)
is there a way to have the screen dim/off to save battery, but still be active.
biggest is music/recording. when I am recording something (meeting, etc) I have to force the screen to stay on in order for it to continue recording. same thing goes for uploading to youtube - i have to keep the screen on for it to continue it's connection.
Am I missing something??
Thanks for the help
try an app called "free power widget"
you can adjust the screen timeout so it is short or long
you can easily adjust screen brightness
you can adjust the wifi lock and a bunch of other settings.

There's something wrong with your connection, (that's your internet one, not the one within your head the connects your lobes together, especially the lobe containing common sense)
What you could do to stop you from losing your Wi-Fi connection when in sleep mode is try going into Settings -> Wireless controls -> Wi-Fi settings -> press menu button then Advanced -> then select Wi-Fi sleep policy and change the option to Never. This should I think keep Wi-Fi active when your screen is off (stops of the phone from switching to mobile data and by default is set to do so when the screen is off).

Coming from Windows Mobile, a SIMPLE power off app is hard to find on Android. I had one on my WM Touch Pro2 on my homescreen- simple tab and off.
Over the months of trying to find a simple FREE app- this is what I have so far encountered.
Screen Off .99 and Power Off .99- are available. But due to a so call security reason for Android, it will not power off the phone immediately- screen is off- but you can see the hardware lights on. I found another tip that you will have to modify an API to do so.
Yes, many, many, many, Google searches and this is what i found.
You can try a widget called Extended Controls. They are awesome and include a screen off widget, I use it all the time to turn my screen off.
Widgetsoid offers a hugely customisable power control widget which includes a screen lock button. It's working brilliantly for me on o2 2.2!

What triggered safe mode?

I can find plenty of info on how to force it into safe mode...or how to force it out of safe mode, but I'm looking to do neither.
I rebooted my phone today (because gmail wasn't syncing) and it started back up, to my surprise, in safe mode. It's weird b/c besides the sync everything was peachy.
I'd just like to know if there's any way to poll the rationale for it? Any log file I can cat? Any ADB command I can run? I'd just like to know what triggered it...this isn't a daily occurrence so it's not like I can just turn log-cat on and reboot. So I want to look at it now, while it's in safe mode.
Any help/tips are appreciated. All I can find in Google is how to get it in and out of safe mode.. NOTHING regarding diagnosis...
CM7...forgot which kernel. - JT's nightly #11 IIRC...I can get that info once I find his nightly kernel build page again, lmao.
Weird. Mine did yesterday too.
Haha, probably just a coincidence.
Either way, I'm REALLY surprised there's no info on this subject...
I mean either a flag set before shut-down or a status code on boot should stick it into safe mode...it shouldn't be hard to poll why. Something like that should definitely be either pollable from ADB, or in a log file some place. Seeing the lack of activity in this thread I decided it was probably a moot issue and rebooted into recovery, cleared cache and dalvik cache, restarted, it booted normally..
Though I'd still like to know for next time. Not only is this useful for people who actually give a ****, but it's useful to developers so they know of potential problems/bugs that exist inside ROM's. I'd be extremely surprised if there was **absolutely** no way to get it.

ROM with pocket detection?

My GS5 keeps waking up in my pocket...I'm assuming that it is because the home button is being pressed. Is there a ROM out there that has pocket detection so that it won't wake up if it's in your pocket?

Also, I believe wanam x posed can do it, I'm not sure though.

Thanks...just installed...so far, so good!
So I installed that ROM, and Faux123's kernel, and it appears to be working great. I wish there was true pocket detection so I didn't have to disable the home button wake, but this will work for now.
Some lock screen apps e.g. Dynamic notifications pro can be configured to do what you want. They monitor the proximity sensor to know when you pull the phone out of your pocket.

The problem with that tho is it polls the sensor, which drains battery. The air wake feature of our device checks the orientation of the device. I would like to change it so it works on all orientations so when removed from pocket it would wake. That would be the perfect setup.

You quoted multiple people who had disparate solutions. Speaking only for myself, I was talking about a lock screen app, not a ROM. And it can be configured to do what you are wishing for. Block accidental use of the home button when locked. Realize when it is pulled from a pocket and wake up.
And it satisfies your newly expressed requirement as well; namely that it is not harsh on battery life. If you search my post history, I even quantified the battery use for that app.

Its still using more battery then the system framework can. Therefore its harsh on the battery for people who wish to get 18+ hours on battery. I make apps. I know how to read proximity sensor values. and you need to keep the device awake in order to do it. Maybe using root it would be different.
Anyhow, i was nowhere bashing any app. I was simply stating that instead of replacing your entire lockscreen, you could hack into the already existing code and make it ignore the orientation of the device to achieve what the OP is after.
Nothing you said refutes my comments or their conclusion. So we'll just have to disagree on the subject.

[Q] Screen lock timeout and force lock with button

I would like to know if there is a way to force user authentication (password, or fingerprint, etc) by pressing a button.
What i mean is that on a blackberry you can press the 'K' key to lock the screen and force the user to have to put in the password to unlock the phone. With Android it seems like the only option is to set it to lock immediately b/c if it is set to anything other than that, hitting the power button will just turn off the screen but not Lock it until that setting reaches the time you set for the lock to occur.
I assume it is not built in and i will need to download an app.
Thanks
Uhh.. Set it to lock immediately?

That is not what I'm asking! I would like the ability to keep the screen off without it locking right away but have the ability to lock with the power button. There are apps out there but it does not appear there is an option to do this natively.
Oh... But why, I'm curious.
Very simple, i don't want to have to keep scanning my fingerprint when my phone is being charged on wireless charger after the screen times out. It is very convenient to lock the phone with a simple press of a button like blackberry. If you treat it like a business phone you will understand, but I'm coming from a blackberry so it is a very useful feature for me.

That is not the issue. Plus why would I want the screen on all the time. The problem is that the feature exists. However for what ever reason ATT disabled the option and lumped it together with turn off screen immediately. If i can figure out which CSC will turn this on it would be great but I don't know if it is a CSC option

I gave you a solution based on what you said you wanted: " i don't want to have to keep scanning my fingerprint when my phone is being charged on wireless charger after the screen times out."
Im sorry if its not exactly what you were looking for, but it IS a solution.
I think the two things you want are mutually exclusive. The only way to have what you need is use smart unlock. Otherwise, the phone either locks or it doesn't.

I never stated I want the screen on all the time. I simply want the option to lock at will using the power button. I appreciate the suggestion but it is not what I asked for and I'm familiar with the development options.
Still would be nice if there is a way to turn this on via a CSC option. still digging

Question pixel 6 "Google notifications"

Does anyone know why I'm getting a Google Downloading notification so many times a day, and you can't clear them either, without disabling every notification in settings. It doesn't give any clue as to what's being downloaded. When I tap & hold it, it leads to a list of about 25 different notifications. I've tried disabling them in various combinations, to no avail. It's not updates to play services, or other system apps. I see those updates separately. I'm at a loss as to what it is for. It pops up many times when using Google keyboard, especially at times I'm typing in a search inquiry, on all kinds of different apps. But, it does appear at times I'm not using keyboard, though, less frequently.
Got a screenshot or something to help identify it?

I can't screenshot the notifications shade when pulled down. All it shows is two arrows in a circle one over the other, Google (dot) 1min which continues the count for several minutes. And under that, Downloading. I can activate or cause it to appear when I type in any search bar, in any browser app, or other apps, so, I'm thinking it has something to do with the Google keyboard perhaps. It's really starting to annoy, or frustrate me.
i was just able to take screenshots of notifications? ( Pressing at the same time POWER and VOL - ) you could also if you really wanted to help anyone figure out how to help you: screen record it then export photo, or even find the image online.
let me re-read what you have here and consider it further.

Hmmm. looks a lot like the sync icon for profile stuff like contacts and calendar etc.
Could be glitching while attempting to sync from the cloud? I would maybe turn that off and see if it does it.
If you turn off all google notifications does it still do?
to be honest i have not ever seen that before, so im wildly guessing and im not an expert lol. it sometimes takes a while to get a response here and sometimes no response is given at all. i would suggest posting your question here:

That might have done the trick, as soon as I turned it off, the notification disappeared from my shade. I'll give it a day or so, and report back. I must have missed that in my earlier messing around. Hopefully, it's cured?
COOL
It is likely the speech services trying to download your language files. It could be easily solved if that is the case and you connect to wifi then do what would make it happen again and give it time to download what it needs.
As a side-note turning off the notification is just masking the issue. if you really want to get to the root of the problem what i would do is look at running the stuff running and close them one by one, while also clearing each of their cache, and when you find out which one is causing it such as the google speech language download (which is very likely) then clear data to that app and be connected to wifi because otherwise it wont download.
I can report that the notification is no longer activated when typing in a search bar. So far, that's a good sign.

I thought it might be speech services as well at first, but then I remembered just yesterday I was getting a download for speech services and the notification actually said "speech services".
well it is a 334 mb file so give it enough time maybe. but yeah likely be resolved from being connected to wifi for a while maybe reboot while on wifi. but yeah turing that off should make it just stop telling you it need to download something.

Speech services is one of the first things I nuked when setting the device up. I'm not a fan. Could be due to my interest, hence search terms activate the download, but, I've turned off most of that stuff in other Google settings.
