Question pixel 6 "Google notifications" - Google Pixel 6

Does anyone know why I'm getting a Google Downloading notification so many times a day, and you can't clear them either, without disabling every notification in settings. It doesn't give any clue as to what's being downloaded. When I tap & hold it, it leads to a list of about 25 different notifications. I've tried disabling them in various combinations, to no avail. It's not updates to play services, or other system apps. I see those updates separately. I'm at a loss as to what it is for. It pops up many times when using Google keyboard, especially at times I'm typing in a search inquiry, on all kinds of different apps. But, it does appear at times I'm not using keyboard, though, less frequently.

Got a screenshot or something to help identify it?

I can't screenshot the notifications shade when pulled down. All it shows is two arrows in a circle one over the other, Google (dot) 1min which continues the count for several minutes. And under that, Downloading. I can activate or cause it to appear when I type in any search bar, in any browser app, or other apps, so, I'm thinking it has something to do with the Google keyboard perhaps. It's really starting to annoy, or frustrate me.

i was just able to take screenshots of notifications? ( Pressing at the same time POWER and VOL - ) you could also if you really wanted to help anyone figure out how to help you: screen record it then export photo, or even find the image online.
let me re-read what you have here and consider it further.

Hmmm. looks a lot like the sync icon for profile stuff like contacts and calendar etc.
Could be glitching while attempting to sync from the cloud? I would maybe turn that off and see if it does it.
If you turn off all google notifications does it still do?
to be honest i have not ever seen that before, so im wildly guessing and im not an expert lol. it sometimes takes a while to get a response here and sometimes no response is given at all. i would suggest posting your question here:
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/new?source=need_more_help

I mean tho that one says 23 notifications a day of "data download" turn that off. that is likely it.

Ok, I'll give that a try, thanks

That might have done the trick, as soon as I turned it off, the notification disappeared from my shade. I'll give it a day or so, and report back. I must have missed that in my earlier messing around. Hopefully, it's cured?

COOL

It is likely the speech services trying to download your language files. It could be easily solved if that is the case and you connect to wifi then do what would make it happen again and give it time to download what it needs.
As a side-note turning off the notification is just masking the issue. if you really want to get to the root of the problem what i would do is look at running the stuff running and close them one by one, while also clearing each of their cache, and when you find out which one is causing it such as the google speech language download (which is very likely) then clear data to that app and be connected to wifi because otherwise it wont download.

I can report that the notification is no longer activated when typing in a search bar. So far, that's a good sign.

I thought it might be speech services as well at first, but then I remembered just yesterday I was getting a download for speech services and the notification actually said "speech services".

well it is a 334 mb file so give it enough time maybe. but yeah likely be resolved from being connected to wifi for a while maybe reboot while on wifi. but yeah turing that off should make it just stop telling you it need to download something.

Speech services is one of the first things I nuked when setting the device up. I'm not a fan. Could be due to my interest, hence search terms activate the download, but, I've turned off most of that stuff in other Google settings.

screen off widget

hey all
I am looking for a widget that can simply turn the screen off, I press and the screen goes off.
I have searched but cant find anything that works
Thanks
I have seen a couple of apps in my travels go have a look in the android development I'm sure an xda member cooked one up a few weeks back, and from what i remember android does not switch off straight away like WM does it has a delay built in
I was looking for one of these some months ago.
I was told that there wasnt one which stopped the screen straight away, however I found on. UNFORTUNATELY, I can't find it again. (I am on my third Streak)
It wasn't badged as a screen off, but it was a single widget which locked the device (aka turned off the screen, as if you had pressed the power button)
I would love to find it again!
Screen off
http://android.konreu.com/applications/screen-off/
I don't see the point myself, why don't you just hit the power button
Yyhat link doesnt work no item found, the power button is in a weird spot for my liking and since i use no lock and open with th volume button
Then why don't you do a google search for an android app called 'scren off'

Pick up your android phone and go to somewhere called the 'android marketplace' you may even have an app already installed for that so no need to search for that thank goodness.
In the search bar enter 'sreen off' it should be at the top of the list
i have a question, maybe this is android related, maybe streak, not sure.
I come from WM6.5 background, so forgive me if this is a 'duh' question:
when I am listening to music, or recording or, anything really, if the screen turns off, it shuts the whole phone down. including wifi (loses connection)
is there a way to have the screen dim/off to save battery, but still be active.
biggest is music/recording. when I am recording something (meeting, etc) I have to force the screen to stay on in order for it to continue recording. same thing goes for uploading to youtube - i have to keep the screen on for it to continue it's connection.
Am I missing something??
Thanks for the help
try an app called "free power widget"
you can adjust the screen timeout so it is short or long
you can easily adjust screen brightness
you can adjust the wifi lock and a bunch of other settings.

There's something wrong with your connection, (that's your internet one, not the one within your head the connects your lobes together, especially the lobe containing common sense)
What you could do to stop you from losing your Wi-Fi connection when in sleep mode is try going into Settings -> Wireless controls -> Wi-Fi settings -> press menu button then Advanced -> then select Wi-Fi sleep policy and change the option to Never. This should I think keep Wi-Fi active when your screen is off (stops of the phone from switching to mobile data and by default is set to do so when the screen is off).

I am not an idiot
Coming from Windows Mobile, a SIMPLE power off app is hard to find on Android. I had one on my WM Touch Pro2 on my homescreen- simple tab and off.
Over the months of trying to find a simple FREE app- this is what I have so far encountered.
Screen Off .99 and Power Off .99- are available. But due to a so call security reason for Android, it will not power off the phone immediately- screen is off- but you can see the hardware lights on. I found another tip that you will have to modify an API to do so.
Yes, many, many, many, Google searches and this is what i found.
You can try a widget called Extended Controls. They are awesome and include a screen off widget, I use it all the time to turn my screen off.
Widgetsoid offers a hugely customisable power control widget which includes a screen lock button. It's working brilliantly for me on o2 2.2!

Can't push "install" soft-key buttons to install app

This happens occasionally with Amazon apps, when I try to install an update. It's also just happened again when I bought the Humble Bundle of apps, and it won't install when I try to push the install button once I open the .apk. Anyone know a work-around or have experienced this as well?
I will restart and post my findings.
For those who don't know what the Humble Bundle is, it's a bundle of four, great games, that YOU choose the price for. Read this article to learn a little more about it: Pay what you want for this Android Bundle

It's an app that just makes the screen more dim than even Android can. You can set a default dimming level too.
That's is a stupid, stupid bug too, but at least I know why and it's now documented here. Thanks all.
Has anyone had this problem more recently?
I've been experiencing it on CM 10.1 ROMs, and only a complete wipe and reflash seems to fix the problem.
It would seem that SOMEWHERE, I need to wipe some kind of data out, but I don't know what. I'm having this exact situation right this second. Can't hit 'next' or can't hit 'install'.
4/11+ CM 10.1.
I don't see that 'Screen Filter' application. Nothing in apps called that. Does it have a different name?
Thank You

Any persistant overlay may prevent usage of the "install" or "next" button when installing an app from the SD card, whether it's screen filter or HALO. Chat heads, Ninja SMS, floating battery stats, etc are all possible culprits.
This is a safety built into android to prevent an app from popping up an overlay over the required permissions list and showing a "safe" list of required permissions on top of the real list of persmissions that allow it to read your texts, pick your wallet, and root around in your underwear drawer.

My Saviours!
I would just like to give a hearty THANK YOU for this thread.
I have been bashing my head against the desk trying to figure out WHY the hell I could not press the install button.
I have Twilight installed that dims your screen based on time of day. I followed the directions of turning it off, and look at that, it worked.
So what have I learned today?
There is ALWAYS an asnwer for something to not work as normal. It is a matter of asking the right question to find that answer.

[Q] Earphones Connected is there any use?

I was wondering if there is anyway to make more applications show up for this earphones connected prompt in my notification drop down. If there isn't, is there a way to disable it completely? It is really not helpful without giving me like google music or something else as an option.

Also somewhat related, does the galaxy s3 have support for lock screen music controls? I know it was a ICS default feature. It doesn't show for Google Play Music (or whatever it's name is at this point).
I also would like to add Google music and iheart radio in that menu. Any ideas? I am currently rooted using stock ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Just figured I should mention this, I put this rom on: and now I got more options, probably the stock options. It would be awesome to make this configurable in the future. I think a lot of us are getting ahead on expectations in development right now with this locked down bootloader, as it is still in the way of custom kernels and such. I think many of the capable dev's are busy trying to figure out how to fully unlock this device.
Heres an idea, I might give this one a try:
based off this: http://www.s3forums.com/forum/galaxy-s3-hacking-mods/874-hack-remove-wifi-reminder.html
edit this:
ContextAwareService -> logDatabase.db -> appLogTable
This appears to be holding the same shortcuts that the headphones plugged in thing brings up. When I plug in my headphones it crashes the SQLite Editor if I am viewing the database at the same time. Which leads me to believe it is making use of the sqlite database.
Edit:
indeed, I deleted the google talk as an option and it no longer shows when I plug in the headphones.
Update on progress:
I found the touchwiz home database which gave me the launch commands for different applications. I think I can add whichever I want to that database list in the same format at this point. Phone is doing a nandroid backup before I go any further. Here are the screen shots, and it was located in:
TouchWiz home -> launcher.db -> appOrder
Is there a hide/spoiler/resize option for the images? They are kind of large...
Got it working. =)
So I'll try to write up a better how to in the next few days. But these screen shots should be sufficient for now I figure. Here is proof it is working:
quick side note: notice the number skips 9 (what gtalk used to occupy). I would probably just edit gtalk to become Play Music, instead of deleting as I did.
__
__
edit:
Quick observation, anyone notice the fm radio option is default in the database? Not sure if that is because of the rom, or if included with even the stock Verizon.

I would like to know to remove the option completely too...as it takes too much space in drop-down notification
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'll do a nandroid backup and see if deleting the entries removes it cleanly. I suspecting the icon will still be there and such. Seems like a poor way to remove it even if it does work, I imagine the process will still run and such even if it doesn't show in notification bar. Giving it a shot in a little bit though.
Quick report back while I restore:
At first, it actually restored the original options after I deleted all entries. If I want into another table within the database and set the value to 0, then deleted the entries they would stay gone. Although they still allocated the same space it just didn't show them. I'll provide screenshots shortly.
Screenshots:
First attempt repopulated the default options:
Second attempt:
First go to 'sqllite seq' and set 'appLogTable' equal to 0:
Once again delete all the entries
Then you get this:
So even worse than I suspected. I thought it would at least allocate some extra space in the notification drop down. It takes up the same room, it is just blank now.
Made the how to:

What is this tiny almost transparent circle in my notification bar?

Yesterday I noticed this odd almost transparent circle object in my notification bar at the top of my screen. However when I pull down the tray nothing is there? I went to see what was running the the settings and nothing odd was there? I killed everything and it went away. Then it came back later so I had a friend text me and when I cleared the text notification only in the tray it disappeared? I have never seen anything like it before and unless you look it's almost hard to see. I thought maybe this was Sprint backdoor software and someone was trying to remote diagnose my phone or view my screen so I killed my Wifi and 3g but it kinda scares me they can take over whenever they want? I don't have many apps installed other than what came stock (Google Voice, Xfinity Channel Changer app, Flixster, PlayerPro and Dead Trigger. I've also disabled many of the stock apps like Google+, Facebook, Shopper, Gmail, Soundhound, twitter, etc... If someone could help me figure out what it is, as I have included pictures below.

Are you using the Power Toggles app from the Play Store? If so that's what is causing it. I had the same thing happen when I was on Mean Bean and using Power Toggles. I forget how I got it to go away, other than playing with the settings in the app until it disappeared.

Strange Behavior with my Galaxy a10e that just started the other day urgent

Good evening. I am having two issues that popped up with my phone when I turned it on the other morning. I use the Simple Mobile service and have a Galaxy a10e. All software is up to date and I am running Android 10.
The first issue is that due to having larger fingers it is easier to use 'talk to text.' I have Samsung Keyboard as my default and had muted all my sounds so that when I hit the microphone and went to touch the circled microphone to speak there would be no sound. However the other morning when I went to talk to text it made a 'ding' noise at me. I went into settings and could not find a way to quiet it.
I searched the web and found a similar issue and someone downloaded sound assistant from the Galaxy Store. I did that but when I went to the section where you could control the individual volume of apps it seemed there was everything chooseable (Phone, Voice Recorder, Firefox, etc.) BUT messages does not show up.
The second issue I have is with the drop down menu on the main page. There used to be a button for mobile data so you could grey it out.
I have a cap and occasionally if I am not home and say, playing a game offline, it was always easy to just pull down the menu and shut off data. But the button is no longer there. Granted I had not used it in a bit but there was an option. I even looked on Samsung on how to shut off mobile data and it recommends that step. But the button seems to have disappeared.
If anyone could help me with these issues I would certainly appreciate you taking the time. Thanks and have a good evening.

1. You can try Google keyboard (Gboard). Maybe its voice to text feature works fine for you ... It is working without any sound on my phone.
2. The mobile data toggle should still be there. Maybe not on the first "page". Drop down the toggles and click the three dots menu (at the top right) and select the option to edit/change the toggles. Then search for mobile data and place it on the first page (or where you want it to be).
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU so much for responding. I have been waiting for help for over a month. I appreciate it.
I am going to attempt to add pictures to show what I am seeing in case it helps.
1. I have Gboard downloaded. I now have 3 choices for keyboard
-Google Voice Typing
-Gboard
-Samsung Keyboard

If I have Samsung Keyboard selected over all the keys I have this
When I choose Gboard I get this which doesn't show the option for a Microphone
In settings for Gbaord I have USE VOICE TYPING selected.
I also have the choice of Samsung or Google Text to speak engine.
The only way I can use Talk to Text with the Gboard I can see is to go back into keyboard choices (bottom right) and choose Google voice typing which brings up
I do not see any way to use Google Keyboard with a microphone showing.
2. As to the mobile data toggle when I drop down from the top I get on two pages
If I choose the three button options
This is what shows. I do not see the option for any other buttons.
If you know what I am doing wrong please let me know. All I know is that there was a button for shutting data which disappeared and my samsung keyboard started making noises when you touch the microphone when it didn't before. I wish I knew more about this but it had been fine forever and then just one morning I noticed the mobile data button was missing and when I went to talk to text my wife the microphone was beeping again.
I appreciate your time and effort. I know where to look if I have PC issues I can't solve myself but when it comes to the phone this is a puzzle I can't solve. Please have a good evening.
