THESE ARE RUMORS I really didn't think this would happen but it is however a crucial step in order to keep their market share and (ultimatively) improve it. Time will tell.
I think we, LG G2 owners, are guaranteed an Android 5.0 update!

As the title says, LG pushed out Kitkat update for Optimus G in Korea (for very small numbers of users of SK Telecom.)
I will give you guys with more updates later.
As far as I know, Korean version of Optimus G is very similar to Sprint version here.
Screen shot attached... F180S is the model number.

Update 1: There's a rumor that this was supposed to be a test version for internal users of LG. The phone that received the update was given by LG as a raffle gift to that user. Looks like the update was more like leaked, rather than officially pushed. More updates to come.

According to this, they're on the way, though.
Any kernels available Now that would be compatible with their stock kikat?
I know LG has confirmed Lollipop next year for the G2 but is it possible for Lollipop to be ported from another device? (Like the Nexus 5)
Or do we have to wait for LG to release some sort of source/kernal?
Just wondering
The G3 will get it by the end of this year, most likely we'll get a port from that

You sure about that? I mean I'm no code builder but I figured that would take a while, thatd be great if your right tho.
I'd definitely consider going AOSP Lollipop as its aesthetically pleasing. Never really liked AOSP Kitkat

My Shield Tablet is getting the Lollipop update this month, so it would be cool to keep the UI standardized between my G2 and that. A CM12 version of Lollipop would be nice, but I want a straight up AOSP version so bad! Nvidia's barely touched version of Android is way nicer after I rooted it and installed xposed compared to CM11. Perfection on the G2 would be if LG releases Lollipop for the G2 and someone did something like the de-Sensed ROM's on the HTC phones. Strip off the LG UI and keep the it pure Android, but with all the LG stuff under the hood so we still have good camera performance and less issues.

I've used Lollipop on my Nexus 5 since the first dev preview was released. ART results in a long first boot because it is compiling the runtime cache for each app. Every boot after that should be the same or better as Dalvik used to be. It is the same as it was on KitKat, with LRX21M the N5 boots in about 3-5 seconds. 5.0 gives crazy performance improvements, especially on older devices like the Nexus 10 (KitKat performance was okay at best). It will definitely be worth it.
Question is, how possible is it? I sold the G2 in April because of all the kernel issues and loki patches LG made. How unlocked is this device at this point? For me, AOSP ROMs had issues galore(GPS, freezing, etc.) because of the lack of source, and certain radios had loki patches in them(ZVA,ZVC etc.). Even ROMs were dropping support for the G2 due to kernel issues. Remember that the stock Google kernel CANNOT obtain root on Lollipop, a custom kernel is required, preferably with SELinux set to permissive. On Nexus that has been achieved because of the unlocked bootloader allowing for the flashing of .imgs. If the kernel needs to be in-line with LG source + bootloader, I highly doubt that root would be easy to obtain...
Basically, what is the status of the G2 at this point?

Nicely said. I don't have an option, though. Meh.
I think we should see how the G3 goes with rooting when Lollipop hits.
Yeah, that's been my experience while looking for stable custom Roms. It appears, g2 is best used as stock or sold (although I have the highest regard for all the devs who worked countless hours to bring us all the custom goodness on g2). But it appears most devs are moving to other platforms starting 5.0. I hate stock OS so much that selling the device looks to be my next best option, but there's just no clear winner\awesome device to push me over the edge (thanks google for ur 6 inch monster - now even the nexus is out).

We have some core developers like @dorimanx and all the other cool cats who maintain huge multiplatform roms. I'm going to attempt porting lolli to the g2 right now. The repository is syncing, i have lg kitkat source and @dr87 has sources for porting roms within kitkat.
I can extrapolate and figure out how to rebase it on 5.0, but many developers will do so before me. Things arent that bad really for the G2, id say they are WAY better than they were 6 months ago.

Yeah, uh. It appears the second half of my post was cut out.
I'll just retype it here:
It's very possible. People can do what Cyanogen did with CM11. It's not very unlocked, really. Nothing has really changed since Loki was released. AOSP ROMs have been better recently, but the camera is pretty bad.
Everything is exploitable. Perhaps they'll figure out how to get out of the sandbox. Just look at iOS, for example.
Now, since since Lollipop kernel sources will likely be open, people can probably create a flashable zip of a Lollipop OTA and remove that part of the kernel that prevents rooting. People can always use the flash tool tip restore to an older version and then use AutoRec.

I'm planning to Buy LG V30+ (H930DS), Over OnePlus 5T. Can we get Customized Rom Like we get for OP5t? Specially RROS ?
If you're buying the H930DS, you should know that you cannot unlock the bootloader. Therefore, you will not be able to install any custom ROM/root the phone.
That is definitely the best rom out! That would be cool if it happened But there are no ROMs out so it's not looking good

There are no ROMs out there because so far only the european versions (H930/G) got the bootloader unlock, as soon as the US998 also gets on the unlock list, more devs will (hopefully) start working on the device.
Im currently waiting with buying the phone because of that... even though i have this "i need something new" feeling already (currently using my good old oneplus 2 with android 8.1, still going good, but battery slooowly dying though). Dont wanna buy a phone though without dev support :/
The V30 is one of the phones i would wanna buy (its in the top 3, atm at spot 1 lol), would even buy it now, and try to port lineage os... but the biggest problem would probably be how to get all neccessary vendor files, and the device tree...
Im rather inexperienced when it comes to that.

Why is it not looking good?
Bootloader on Europe model has only been unlocked about three weeks ago. North America open market US998 has still not been placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list, but will be.
Many devs were probably holding off buying this until that happened.
LG V30 TWRP is still classified as "alpha", but those Europe owners who took the risk already have root.
There will be ROMs, kernels, etc. just like with the 2017 LG G6 and 2026 LG V20. This phone is better than either and they have tons of dev work.

The problem is custom ROMs may not work with the quad DAC. Did the devs ever get custom ROMs to work with the LG V20 quad DAC?
You might need to root and use something like Gravity Box to give you custom ROM features while still staying with stock firmware.
Also you need to buy one of the carrier unlocked LG V30 models which are placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list.

And you'd be willing to give up the quad DAC?
Sure, root, custom ROMs, kernels are why I chose the unlocked North American open market US998. But I may have to stick with just stock firmware, and then use Gravity Box or similar to get custom ROM features if devs can't crack the quad DAC?
I haven't researched to see if they did so with the LG V20... but I know with the ZTE Axon 7 quad DAC, ZTE wouldn't release their proprietary source code.

Hey Chazz. Maybe I'm crazy but I just don't really use the headphones often so I don't even consider that a killer feature. I am loving g all the other features of this amazing phone! I am aslo a Huge resurrection fan! Glad you are enjoying the phone!
AlsaMixer would make full use of the DAC but it requires root, should work on any rom.

So.. i was just at a local shop of my carrier, i wondered why their price for the LG V30 (even though with contract bonus and so) is so damn high. Their price starts at 1099€, not 899€ like what LG planned (local shops have it for 799€ but sadly i cant use my extra bonus point from carrier which are worth around 300€ there .-.), even the Note 8, which is more expensive, is cheaper at the carrier and my current contract xD
Anyway... im trying to make an actuall working list of vendor files and device tree(s) for the H930 (based off of the G6 (LG specific files and file list in general) and some SD835 devices, saw that the G6 vendor files were partially kanged from the OP3 lol)
But i dont have a device currently, so if i manage to build it (PS: im really inexperienced with device bringups, but maybe i can atleast lay the foundation for some more experienced dev), would someone be willing to take the risk?
Currently synced LOS 14.1 for that btw.
PS: Im using the proprietary files from the system dump of the H930 ofcourse lol
Just using the G6 and some SD835 devices for the actual file list, which i would need and so on.

Translation:
LG Electronics will upgrade the operating system (OS) of LG G6 to Android 8.0 'Oreo' from 30th.
LG Electronics has been providing 'Oreo' upgrades for the first time as a smartphone maker in Korea last December through LG V30. Based on accumulated technology and know-how, LG upgrades the latest OS upgrade to LG G6.
This upgrade is the first line of the 'Software Upgrade Center', which was launched in March for quick and systematic smartphone customer care. The center is a permanent organization to provide stable and ongoing support for occasional OS upgrades. Following this LG G6, LG V20 and LG G5, which were launched in 2016, will also be upgraded to Oreo.
The upgrade is available both wireless and wired. Customers who use the LG G6 can receive the software update notification from their smartphone, upgrade wirelessly, or connect to the PC and upgrade through the LG Bridge program. The 'LG Bridge' can be installed from the mobile phone download center of LG Electronics homepage.
Android 8.0 'Oreo' speed, battery and basic performance, screen configuration, graphics and overall improved. You can enjoy various convenience functions such as adding PIP (Picture In Picture) function that allows users to watch video and continue viewing images on a small screen even when another app is running, and support for high-resolution sound source LDAC that minimizes sound source loss.
LG Electronics plans to add new features such as the 'sympathetic AI' introduced by the LG V30S ThinQ to the LG G6.
The LG G6 is a premium smartphone with a 5.7-inch full-vision display that gives a full 18: 9 aspect ratio, an optimal grip to handle with one hand, and the highest level of durability. Astro Black, Ice Platinum, Mystic White, Terra Gold, Marine Blue, Lavender Violet, and Raspberry Rose.
"We will continue to provide stable and continuous after-sales services such as upgrading the OS and adding new functions to existing products," said Lee Seok-su, CEO of Software Upgrade Center at LG Electronics. "LG Smartphones can be trusted by customers I will try to make steady efforts. "
Yes, but I think the treat is for Korea market only, not sure how long it will be out of Korea.
Anyway, we can NOT trust any of LG's words before they have actually did.

If it does actually get released in Korea, it will be at least 1-2 months later for the rest of us. Don't get too excited.
I do not believe them
they are liars
We'll see April 30..
When I see the time it has elapsed between the release in Korea and the rest of the world for the V30.. (Not sure it's updated everywhere else)
I just talked with one guy from LG Poland. Its only release date for Korea. Rest of the world need to be patient :/
since I have a h870ds (which isn't europe version), does that mean I can get oreo the same day as Korea is released?
I dont think so that will be some update to Oreo for rest off world. Only for Korea supposed. It is same situation how Nougat for LG G4. Nougat will be last update for our phone, maybe some next security patching.

Yes, that is a definite possibility despite rumors otherwise. Just as they market certain variants of the G6 only for Korea, maybe they decided not to migrate an international version of Oreo. Supposedly they have been "testing" a version of Oreo in Korea or China since November, but not elsewhere.
Not sure what to make of their marketing hype of the "software upgrade center" or the "enterprise program".
If the upgrade does show up, I will be hesitant to be an early adopter, since if there are bugs it is not easy to downgrade on an unrooted phone.

Being currently rooted I am awaiting our incredibly talented developers to create a flashable Oreo version (assuming of course Oreo actually appears) that will retain root and/or be rootable.
You guys are really strange: LG says officially (read it stressed) they launch Oreo update for LG G6 (even if in Korea) starting April 30th.
You go: I don't believe, blablabla. I want LG blablabla. I'll never buy an LG phone blablabla.
Nobody forces you to buy LG phones. You don't like something, you don't buy something. Period.
Why the hell did you buy an LG phone if you knew that LG had't released update for LG G5 or LG G4 or whatever you mention is left without the promised update?
In my language we have a saying translated to English like "The mice were getting hurt and crying, but kept on eating the cactus". Seems that you are like those mice
Keep calm and wait for Oreo. Instead of the cactus you may grab a pack of Oreo biscuits to make waiting more enjoyable.

Well said. Even though it's been said a million times before, we should wait and give LG a chance before we start judging them. We won't know if they'll be keeping their promises or not until the time comes.
Hoping Oreo is released for other regions soon too.
