I have got a (most likely) hardware related issue with the touchscreen of my Xperia U.
Some parts of the screen are not or barely responsive, which is very annoying when typing. I have to tap some letters twice before they actually work. (It's especially around the 'i', 'n' and 'e' when I have my keyboard open by the way.)
I was running stock Android GB and I'm now running stock Android ICS, after I updated my phone the problem was still there which is why I assume it's hardware related. There does seem to be a slight improvement though, but that's probably because ICS feels a bit faster (so far).
Like five minutes ago I noticed something very strange, when I put my finger near the 'N' on the keyboard, but not touching the screen itself, it kept touching it like 10 times a second, sometimes holding the touch so it would result in a ';', but that's not really relevant I guess. It stopped doing that after I turned the screen off and on again by the way.
Now I've downloaded a drawing app on my phone, to see if the phone would skip the parts that were responding bad, but that wasn't the case.
(I would send a picture, but I'm not allowed to send outside links as I'm a new user, sorry. )
There is a chance that this problem is caused by a kind of overpowered charger I had been using last summer, because when I plugged that in, the phone started doing the same, only waay worse. I haven't used it for almost 3 months though, and the problem occurred just a few days ago, which is pretty weird.
I can probably get a replacement touch screen for free because my brother had this phone too and he bought a new phone because the glass of his screen broke.
But I hope I don't have to use that, haha
Is there any solution to this without taking it to a service center or replacing it?
Thanks!

Lots of touchsscreen thread in the forum, search and see what they did
Hey Guys,
I am having a big problem with my device. The touch is not working. I have been flashing various roms on my phone and after playing with many roms, i finally flashed stock rom into my phone and flashed a stock ics based rom. Everything was working fine until one day my touch was not working well. I switched off the phone and turned it on and the touch was right back on. Again, things were smooth until this issue happened quite frequently. The problem was solved after turning off the phone and powering it off. After some time, the problem again started to come. At this point, the touch was not working COMPLETELY.
I was scared and immedaitly flashed the stock rom. During the initial boot, everything was working fine. But, when i locked the screen and tried to use the phone after some time, the same problem occured again.
So friends, my question is, Is this a software related problem or a hardware related problem. If this is a h/w related problem, is there any point in touch working during some time and not working later? ( Now, touch stopeed working completely). Will any tutorial on this forum about bricked touchscreen (after flashing wrong rom, which i am sure i didn't) will help me solve this problem?
I am awaiting for your valued input as this is the phone that i use for all my communication needs.
Kindly help me
Thanks
Well, if stock didn't solve it, there's a chance it's a hw issue. If you look closely, "touchscreen brick" guides are meant for the mini and the lww (touch digitizer separated from display), not the mini pro (touch digitizer and display as one assembly).
And yes, there are situations where your touch digitizer might cease to function for a few seconds then respond after a while, and sometimes it stops working completely after the next reboot (or forever). It happened to me with a deffective replacement part.

Thanks for your reply.......
I guess it is indeed an hardware issue. My phone used to reboot when i slide my keyboard out fast. The screen gets dimmed out and the phone immediatly restarts. Last few days before the problem worsened it was overheating also.
Can you suggest me which hardware part i should change to rectify the touch issue? Awaiting for your reply
Thanks a lot
Ok your problem seems to be worse than expected. A faulty touchscreen shouldn't cause sudden reboots. I'd say it's a flex ribbon issue.
Try to get a replacement flex ribbon and test it extensively before installing it on your phone. Replacing the flex might be enough to solve all of your problems. If any of the problems persist with a new flex, you'll need a new screen assembly (quite expensive at 35~50 bucks).
hello, I am currently facing problem related to LCD its been more then a month phone is updated to lollipop 5.0.2 but still there is issue
Xperia z2 LCD is quite sensitive even if i don't touch anything, LCD is quite sensitive or i can say very responsive any help or solution this is quite annoying anyone else having same issue?
fone is unrooted and bootloader is lock any help please
thanks in advanc
My device is 9 months old and I am facing this problem since the beginning... There is no solution for this problem yet.
This may sound stupid but do you have the glove mode on?
Hello,
I have just replaced the LCD + digitizer of my xperia Z2 because the touchscreen was not responding correctly, and it touched itself on random places. which maked me unable to work with it.
After i replaced the parts i turned the device on, i thought everything was working again, but again the same problem.
I'm not really sure what the problem can be, as a just replaced the touchscreen and LCD.
I've also performed a hard factory reset, but that didn't work either.
Here is a video of the issues:

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problems than you, I have changed the screen, hard reset and I'm about to do a downgrade, did you tried this?
I think this is ghost touch problem .. I had a similar problem and there was a part of the screen not working i have installed several roms until the proplem just disappeared
Try to install cm rom
This problem appeared to me on the first xperia z, on z1 and z2 I only had/have sudden breaks when the display "stops sensing the finger" (so eg. While scrolling it clicks on a link).
However I had this ghost touches problem once on my z2, but this was a virus in my phone.
Sent from Xperia Z2
Luckily not from an iPhone = Yesterdays technology at tomorrows prices
So some of you with white Z5 compact phones might have had this touch sceen bug with repetitive key presses and unstable touch screen behaviour bug which was previously "fixed" by a software upgrade:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/10/21/white-xperia-z5-compact-touch-screen-fix-arriving-next-week/
Lo and behold. This bug is back in MM, and there is another guy in the thread which I can see also have the bug come back
It is not always there, but sometimes its just there. I dont know what triggers it. A restart seems to help until it comes back again.
For those of you not familiar with this bug, it usually shows by repetitive touches, and highly unstable touch screen.
For example when i press the key "s", it usually put in "sssssss" like i have pushed that key 5-6 times.
Also the bugs shows, when for example you are scrolling in facebook/internet, it will not let you scroll. Whenever you touch the screen, it will enter, whereever you lay your finger on screen.
Lastly it also shows by the screen becoming completely unresponsive when you press anywhere.
I have clean installed MM and restored my apps via Sony Backup/restore app.
I am so pissed how a phone color (white) can somehow decide the behavior of the phone touch screen, and I believe sony is hiding something.
In the beginning I was thinking that maybe they made different builds for the different Z5 colors, so they might not have included the "newest" touch screen drivers for at launch time for the white version.
But the same bug appearing AGAIN in MM i have a very hard time understanding that should be the case that it was a software bug. I believe there are some hardware bug, they have somehow omitted by a software circumvention, and they forgot to add it to the white version for the MM launch.
Personally I have always had a problem with the "return" key when the phone is placed. Patch or not, this button works once out of 10.
For information, I just bought this phone. I also think there is a hardware problem. This is average for a manufacturer like Sony. I thought for a moment it back in service but when I see the number of dissatisfied with the service Sony in France, I preferred to keep my phone in the hope that a solution comes a day. We have the right to expect in my opinion ...
I did clean install via flastool also and i have/had this problem. Yesterday i did software repair via pc companion and restores apps after that and so far problem has not occured.
I also made a repair with PC Companion but nothing changed.
So there are other people here with this annoying problem.
You all have a white xperia yes?
This bug is so annoying I feel sometimes like tossing the phone into a wall.
If there was an alternative to this phone in this form factor and specs, I would have bought it yesterday.
But unfortunately there isn't
It's a poor ground connection from the digitizer most likely. You can replicate this "bug" on any device with a bad USB charger. I had a charger that would cause my Nexus 7 to detect random touches.
The software fix was likely adjusting the voltage threshold for touch events to be considered actual presses. It was likely forgotten about when they updated and just needs to get readjusted again. Too bad we don't have the ability to adjust the threshold ourselves in developer options
That being said I have a white z5c and I've only had this "bug" happen once and I just chalked it up to me being plugged into the wall and didn't think much of it. I use my phone constantly too.

Interesting theory. Do you think it is likely that this issue only occurs for one phone color (WHITE), and then only for some whites.
The assembly line for the phones should more or less be the same, no mater the color.
I also have Sony Z5 compact white version which had the touch problem from start. Now after the Marshmallow update its back. As said above, it could happen while browsing (or on home screen) e.g. Entering links instead of scolling i.e. It triggers multi click. In these situations all menu keys will also be none responsive. Its starts acting normal again after a quick push of the power button, i.e. puttning the screen to sleep.
As a former developer for mobile software, both for apps and the android platform, i thinking i would agree with the above conclusion that the problem is hardware based, and not due to a difference in the delivery software version, as i was hopping. So the question is; will this always be a problem for these versions of Z5c white, i.e. they are forgotten in new builds?
Unfortunately I'm having the same problem with my white z5 compact...

it happens that for different colors are used different materials.. probably white ones have different properties..
i can confirm that using bad cable/chargers this kind of bug happens with every device, with random touches and impossible scrolling.. if you have a well-known bad adapter and you note no differences with your white z5c, that's definitively the answer..
i think sony should recall all white z5cs and replace them with newer or different release
What revision of compact Z5 are you? Personally I have a revision 3 (that is written on the box).
I also had a touch of problem before moving to the latest version of Android (6).
My girlfriend also bought white Z5 Compact and funny thing... I put the Panzer Glass on the screen and guess what? Sometimes she can't turn off the alarm clock in the morning and sometimes navigation buttons are not responding. I tried then without the screen and it works without a problem. I am not sure if this is a problem with Panzer glass or sony's bug.
I have Z5 and have no problems, but mine is black edition
Mine is z5c white version as well. The bug started again on MM
And the bug quite annoying.
I bought it on updated lollipop.
And never had this problem before.
This plus Bluetooth is really making me hold off on not moving up from .200 lol
Argh - just saw the visual representation of this bug:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/10/06/xperia-z5-compact-owners-reporting-touch-screen-problems/
and it sounds A LOT like the one from the OnePlus One (driver & firmware issue)
easy blame: Synaptics - fix your ****
Anyway:
try enabling the double-tap-to-wake if it's not already enabled, lock the screen - give it some time to settle (~ 30 seconds),
wake it up (double-tap) - do some stuff - disable the double-tap-to-wake and lock the screen again.
Unlock it via power button and see if that improved the "situation".
Sony recommended a few times to boot into Safe Mode,
does this Mode exist on Android Marshmallow ?
Does it make any change ?
Had this in Nougat is there a fix?
It feels like a software problem! You can try to reinstall the system!
First consider whether it is a system problem. You can refresh the system to see if it is back to normal. If it still does not, then you may need to update a new LCD screen. You can go online to find the repaired video as a reference. The witrigs repair video is doing great, you can check it out!
