Hello,
I recently installed Xposed framework on my s2 and then a few modules. One of them is Cool tool and i got around using it. I like having my stats onscreen and i wanted to see the following:
Cpu Frequency
Cpu usage (%)
Cpu temperature
Gpu Frequency
Gpu usage (%)
Battery temperature
Battery (%)
What I found so far (they were predefined in cool tool):
Cpu Frequency
Cpu usage
Battery temperature
Battery usage
I need help to find the rest:
Cpu tempeture
For this i googled about and found this stackoverflow.com/questions/20771070/how-do-i-get-the-cpu-temperature
I cd into /sys/devices/platform
Then I ran find | grep temp
I found
/s5p-tmu/temperature
/s5p-tmu/curr_temp
So i added them to cool tool custom labels and compare them with an app called cpu trmperature on playstore.
/temperature seemed to work but /curr_temp was showing something else.
Gpu frequency
I searched google and i found community.arm.com/thread/4724
And i searched around in /sys/ and i found this /sys/module/mali/parameters/mali_gpu_clk
I played angry birds go and it seemed to rise and fall to 260 or 275 something like that.
Now my question is:
Can someone tell me if cpu temperature is correct?
What is the average/normal cpu temperature?
Is the gpu frequency correct?
Is there a way to find gpu usage in percent?
If you can test cpu temp and gpu freq please test and let me know if those values are true.
Thanks,
P.S you can see cooltool running in the upper right corner in the screenshots
The green values are for cpu (freq usage temp) respectively then there is ram free
On second line blue is gpu freq red is batt temp and then battery percentage.

Hi
i have found an old /sdcard/cooltool_presets/cpuoverlay0.xml i have (05/22/2014)
with some interested lines for you maybe. i think you cpu temp choice is good.
<string name="customLabelPath1">/sys/devices/platform/s5p-tmu/temperature</string>
<string name="customLabelPath2">/sys/class/power_supply/battery/voltage_now</string>
i remember i used @dorimanx kernel at that moment.
i have no answer about your other questions.
thanks.
Thanks for your reply. I guess thats the correct one for cpu temperature. Btw is it normal for cpu to get hot 65ºC when i play angry birds go? Im worried about that

Yes it is normal. Our CPU is based on 45nm architecture which is 2011 technology. For an old CPU, it does heat up quite a bit but it shouldn't get too hot that it starts to burn your hand (that's why we have thermal throttling and etc.)
Thank you, actually it does not burn me, but towards the middle of the game it gets hot to 65º (checked with cool tool) around the camera and top of the screen warms up.
So i guess as long as I dont play more than 1hr it will be okay (i never play more than one hour)

Ok. Guys i have a problem here. My S2's CPU heats up to 80º yes 80. I want to know if this is ok (i dont think so) and what is the root cause of this. Here is my configuration:
ROM: Wizzedkat v3.3 (some stock apps removed)
KERNEL: Siyah v6.0b5
Overclocked to 1400MHz @1337500uV
GPU overclocked to 330MHz

The only game i have
Goat simulator
Note: i had angry birds Yesterday, UNINSTALLED it and THEN installed goat simulator
Seriously guys its heating up. I can FEEL it too, it also shutdown itself once (because of heat)
Also i use a silicone cover (pic below) if it helps.

Change frequency to stock and there will be a difference. Silicone covers are known to insulate the heat coming from your phone making it hotter as the phone can not breathe properly. Your overclocking is a big factor that increases CPU temps. You could try dorimanX 8.44 kernel instead of siyah since dorimanx has newer changes.
I tried but the touch becomes unresponsive. Same with the kernel that came with the rom so i had ti use siyah. Btw i disabled overclock and now it only heats to 70º.
P.S does anybody know how to post pics from the xda one spp?

The kernel that comes with wizzedkat is dorimanx 8.43 official by dorimanx which is actually quite buggy. The unofficial one by computoncio is much less laggier and has more fixes than the original one so it's more stable. Try dorimanx 8.44 v005 or v004 by computoncio and you'll find it less laggier than the official. Please disregard this if you've done this already and seen no improvement. Glad to see your temps dropped!
You could try the app coolify and keep it on when playing games.
Kernel_Dorimanx-V8.43-[12-21]-[24-10]-JB-SGII-PWR-CORE <<< is the kernel i tried. I will try 8.44 and coolify app. Thanks.

I set max freq 1200mhz but temp still rise to 80º by the time i close game and took screenshot it dropped to 79º

Switch back to siyah kernel if you think temps were lower with it. Avoid playing games when charging phone. Remove case if possible. That's all I can help you with.
Thanks. Will try dorimanx tonight and report tomorrow

I flashed resurrection remix 5.2.3 (no games installed) works perfectly and so far no overheating (with silicone cover) with apolo kernel

Something that won't make my phone lag, but will still save battery? I'd also like to know some good advanced settings. Also, other ways to save battery would be appreciated. Aside from obvious (Turn off wifi when you're not using it, turn off 3g when you're not using it, etc)
I could say that the latest DSC 0.72 did a great job with the conservative mode, almost no lag, and you will surely get a better battery life than with ondemand mode.
Before this update, i used my phone with DSC with ondemand mode and my phone had a battery life of around 24 hours (depending on the amount of time spent on gaming).
Also you should Freeze Google Maps if you are not using it. You can easily do that using Titanium Backup Pro (paid version) or Gemini App Manager (free).
Also, if you are looking for a good software for setcpu, you could easily try AnTuTu CPU Master Free.
Hope this helps...
Everyone says to freeze google maps, but I don't have a problem with that... Mine's not constantly running, according to Battery Dr's task killer. As for Antutu, I don't understand why you brought it up, and I do not like Antutu. When I used it, when I had Streakdroid 1.9, it constantly changed values. And the free version (haven't tried paid) doesn't have profiles, like Setcpu.

Well, i don't use any task killer, so i chose to freeze Maps until i really need them, as on my device, they were always running.
As for Antutu, i like the interface, i don't use any profiles (if we exclude the profiles like ondemand, conservative, performance etc.), so i could say it's just a matter of taste. Use what you like and what you want, i just made a recommandation... As for the changing values, maybe you talk about the processor speed that constantly changes because of the profile (ex. conservative mode).
Didn't mean to offend anyone, i just wanted to help... hope this helps.
Actually what I meant was... When I'd set the max to 384, it would reset them 5 minutes later, to 768, or something else. It wouldn't stay at the value I set it at. And no offense taken.

the newest version of google map 6.0.3 doesn't seem to affect battery life (as long as you didn't turn on latitude for it)

Well, I have noticed that google maps 'runs' even if you don't have it open... In my opinion (with my use) it isn't enough to horribly drain the battery. My stock battery still lasts me all day. But yeah. Also, if anyone's using Alarmdroid, that drains the battery almost as much as wifi does.
Hi guys,
Need some help here.. I am currently on omega v35 with doggly theme and using persus kernel v29.2. My battery is draining very fast. Even on idle for 30minutes, it drop 2%. Is it because of the theme or setting for the kernel?
I had tried flashing back to stock and siyah but the drainage is even worst. Can anyone help me with this? Are there some setting sample for the tweaks which I can follow on? My ram usage is always constant at 700mb, are there any way to reduce it? Basically, I am using my phone for movie and some gaming like slotomania..
Hope to hear from you guys soon with some advice for me.. thanks.

Note that the drain might not real drain but caused by the need for the battery to recalibrate itself after some time.
Usually a full and uninterrupted charge-decharge-charge cycles solves those issues.
Please attach a _full_ and root-enabled log of betterbatterystats (free Version here on XDA) over at least 2-3 hours.
Also include a screenshot of the Android-integrated battery stats in fullscreen mode (without the app listing below)
That should be sufficient data to find the culprit

Dalvik always caches apps you opened in the past in the background and keeps them in a semi-frozen state (no CPU access but still in memory).
The reason is simple: it does not cost any power (RAM always costs the same, regardless of content) and it allows you to multitask between multiple apps.
Should an active app need more RAM it will automatically remove those old apps from cache.
In anutshell; simply don't care. Except if you have some apps that lock themselves in RAM and cause lags but that's not an issue of Android but rather the app itself.
hi
Just wanna ask.. is perseus 29.2 compatible with Omega v35? TiA
Thanks for the advice. So far, the kernel is not giving me any other problem except for the battery issue.

I have been using kernel tuner for a couple weeks. I've been running the crpalmer kernel (1.0.21).
I updated kernel tuner the other day and was just browsing the app and each time I went into cpu it was only showing cpu 0,2 and 3. If I backed out and pressed the cpu1 on/off button and went back in they were all showing and adjustable.
After some testing I noticed when I backed out of the app using my back button (right below the on/of toggle for cpu1) cpu1 would be offline. If I exited the app by pressing home or killing the app with long press back it stayed online. I made sure I was pressing back as low as I possibly could as to not touch the on/off toggle.
I'm not sure if it's the kernel operating as expected and taking cpu1 offline because of light load or if I'm actually turning the cpu off when I back out of the app.
Has anyone else seen this with kernel tuner? I've even, cleared data, cache in kernel tuner, uninstalled the app, reflashed the kernel, re install kernel tuner, made no adjustments and I still get the same thing. Phone still runs like a champ and battery life is fine, maybe I just need to stop looking at it.

did that to me too.. not sure why it does that though... i like crpalmers kernel but i am currently trying out beastmode kernel and it doesnt do that in cpu like crpalmers does
Same thing seems to happen to me on lk's .95 kernel. Are these kernels written to take core 1 offline with light load?

Kernel tuner is probably manually bringing cores online while the hot plug driver is taking cores offline.
It should correct itself the next load increases enough to cause the hot plug driver to change the number of cores.
I installed kernel tuner and it does bring all the cores online (and even tells you it is doing so).
My hot plug driver only fixes it after sufficient load has been generated to have it force all 4 cores online. I'll add a mode to the driver which periodically checks for cores that were manipulated outside of it and brings the up or down as necessary.
After the next release of my kernel, kernel tuner should bring them all online and then a few seconds later they will be brought back online. Kernel tuner is incorrectly bringing them all online because it is trying to let you independently configure your cores. You cannot independently configure the cores on a DNA which means doing so has no value and just encourages people to try to configure the cores differently...

Thanks for that information. I don't need to make adjustments it's just kind of fun playing around. Your kernel runs fine for me without making any adjustments in kernel tuner, noticeably better battery life than stock.

Hello everyone,
I have HTC Sensation (normal) 4 months old and I have a problem with cpu temperature. I am trying to play any game or use an app or browse the web but in about 10-15 minutes CPU temperature goes over 50 oC and it restarts the phone.
Can anyone suggest me some solution?
I tried to change roms, change kernels, stock rom etc but nothing work.
Is there a way to check if the fan that phone has is working? Can I replace that fan?
Is there a cooler for android phones?
Please someon help me
Thanks in advance
sorry for my english
HTCs are known for this. Make sure that when you play the game, other apps are closed.
If this doesn't work, go back to your stock kernel and under clock it I.e use an app like setcpu to put its maximum CPU hz down. This should disallow the phone to work continually at its highest performance, thus cooling it down.
And no. Android phones don't have fans
I have search in the original thread but no answer there. I just installed Carbon-Mackay rom on my 7510 and everything is running fine (I had to change the performance profile to "performance" in order to get it to run smooth).
My problem come that when I try to take a class in Duolingo everything work fine except for the exercises where you are dictated a sentence. Sound effects work but the dictation of phrases doesn't. These didn't happen with the stock rom.
Any ideas?
Hey, you do know that performance profile locks your CPU to 1ghz or whatever you set as the highest right? It means your tab will be smoking hot if you use it for more than 10 mins. I would suggest using interactive instead.
About your problem, I don't know because I don't even know what's duolingo.

Indeed, that was my error. Luckly the rom automatically changed the performance profile. I fixed by problem by installing a pure CM 10.1.
Thanks anyway.
