My 2 weeks-old xperia z2 fell off a friend's hand today and its back glass got shattered! I checked locally and there isnt any replacement part around me so i had to order for it from aliexpress(reliable??),which will take atleast three weeks before i will get it,so im stuck with a shattered phone for now,im totally screwed right now aaaarrggghhh!!
Anyways Has anybody gone through this before? My concern is the adhesive fixed beneath the panel, will the phone retain so called "water proof" after the replacement? will it lose its integrity? Since its just adhesive perhaps some part will not glue back properly will that be susceptible to dust settlement? Will NFC still function properly?
And oh! i thought i read its "shatter proof" before i bought the phone ...perhaps i didnt read well??
Shatter proof?
No such thing and it doesnt say it on the sony website from my last checking
Water resistancy should be kept intact if the sealing is properly kept intact or replaced, NFC i dont realy know enougu about to answer for you

To answere your question, the back cover is not shatter proof, its a dragon trail tempered glass that means its supposed to be scratch resistant but not shatter proof. the NFC will still work if you replace the back cover. and as far as I know every back replacement have the doble side tape, so you can take off the one on your phone and just place the back replacement that comes with its propper tape.
About the water proof, let me tell you that actually this is not a water proof phone, its more actually a water resistant phone, keep in mind that what makes this phone resist to water is the tape on the back and front pannels and the flaps. but to be honest I dont see this phone like water proof. you can take the phone out when its raning , take it with you hands wet. but once you replace the back cover you have to be sure that the tape of the back is water proof tape.
I dissasembly my Z2 and now that I know what make the phone water resist, I wont take the risk to try it on a pool .

I'm not sure if Sony is advertising false info. firstly the picture you included is clearly in the DISPLAY section. Secondly, you've quoted gsm arena and not Sony as the source of the information. Finally I always thought shatter-proof means it won't break into a million pieces and cut your fingers and not that if you drop it onto a hard surface it won't creak.

Yap, shatter proof means exactly that, when you drop it the back panel will probably crack but it will not break in million pieces like a regular glass.

Bought mine on ebay for about 25€ with the chrome parts + buttons. They're cheaper if you don't need these.
i want disassembly only the front cover to remove a little speck of dust under the glass, but is it so easy like appear?
The cover is glued to the phone or not?
Could be consequences for this procedure, can i compromit the air gap?
I don't want remove a speck of dust and then with the use collect 100 of them .
If i get the phone to service, i will lose all my mods .
Please, say me is a safety procedure and very very easy.
The neo doesn't have an air gap, Arc only. I think you will get only more dust, I had the samebon my older SE phone l

Do you speak about the disassembly ?
Of course if you don't pay care, you can get more dust, you have to be fast and precise, not opening all the glass, but only a bit.
In someway the employe had to assembly it during the process and perhaps a little speck of dust remained between lcd and glass, but is is too visible under sun light.
If a careless employe allowed the access of a speck of dust, i can do better because i have not hurry, so i'm not worried about more dust during this process.
I ask you this question only to know if can enter more dust when the phone is again assembled.
Now, apart this speck of dust just out of the box, never entered dust in these months.
Okay that is a video to bookmark!
About a dust specle: Use a can with compressed air, I believe it's called Dustfree or something. Don't start with cotton swipes, you'll make it worse.
Hi,
I've disassemble my Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V yesterday and mounted it again now with a white housing, but now whenever I make a call, as soon as I press on the CALL button the screen automatically goes black... as it happens with we put the phone in contact with our ear or head.
I disassemble and assemble it again a few times but still the same problem...
I'm guessing I've messed up the sensor, but I can not be sure...
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance,

How do you detach the digitizer and sensors from the front plate? The glue doesn't really give and I'm scared of breaking the ribbon cable.

I'd like to know too please... though I've already broken the ribbon cable and am replacing the digitizer...
EDIT
Actually I meant I broke the small ribbon cable but anyway. I found out how to do it, take a thin, small and sharp knife then very gently cut away the glue, it should come off very easily. Then slowly prise the connected section of the phone, I don't know the name but the part with the orange cables. You will have to cut away more glue and you will also have to prise it off the rubber as it is quite firmly stuck in the rubber. Hope I helped, this image should help you figure what should dis-attach from the casing.

On a dutch forum a member had the bottom cracked and replaced it himself. You can buy the bottom part in certain shops. The transparant strip however is attached to the rest of the phone
If you mean this part:

Link to the part. It is a dutch shop but if they have it other shops could to:

ouch, mine had a drop too and the border around the screen is really weak, it now has a small bend at the top corner, luckily it wasn't too bad, but it was only a short drop :\.
My old sgs i9000 with flimsy plastics has been through much worse and looks like new... I won't complain about cheap plastics anymore :X.
Ive found the part in a german online store !!! but.. how to remove the bottom bezel? is it needed to disassemble the whole internals? like here : http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/04/30/xperia-s-disassembly-guide/
or is it just removable by pulling it?

Mine Xperia S ( the black one above in the pic ) dropped on the street and had a crack too but you can easily fix it. Just order the bottom cover online ( the Dutch shop send it in whole Europe i thought ).
When you have a crack in the bottom cover the tension is of the plastic part so you can easily remove it with you're nails. If not, just pull in the middle by the transparant bar and lift the bottom cover with a credit card. The peace will disengage itself then.
Good luck!
il try my best but im scared to break it :O
Well if you break it off it wont matter now
You can just push the new one on then. I didn't realize they were already selling the bottom replacements, im not so terrified now if I crack it if I have a butterfinger moment .

yeah same .. didnt think bout those parts tbh and i didnt see them on the sony site for replacement parts.. anyways its pretty cheap here in germany 7,40€ for the bottom cover +2,50€ fee.. that makes not even 10€ i like that
I can't understand people who have a case for their phone. Case or not, the shock still might break the phone or something still can crack the screen.
You don't want your phone to get scratched? What difference does it make if it is in a case the whole time?
so i've ordered the bottom cover and just noticed a NICE really NICE scratch on the screen(not the protector.. i removed it)

well i've talked to my mom and she said if she let me go out and play soccer for example(im 17 but okay ) and break a window her insurance would have to pay for it, same goes for phones and everything you can damage by accident.. so my guess is that they will have to pay for it and not me, cos a glass isnt that expensive i think...
hi there
I made myself a etui for my htc hd2 for about one year ago adn I'm using it for xperia S now
and I put in it a 3mm aluminium plate in front of it and soft leather inside
it all becouse of my work which is dangerous to any phone especially touch screens
so if someone can make for you something like that it worth any money couse then your phone is unbreakable
Does anyone know where we could order it here in asia? I cant find one in ebay
you must put something like a plettro between the bottom plastic and the trasparent plastic. then you must force the plastic up, it's very simple to do
Hello all,
I've done a search in this forum and only found one thread, but it wasn't clear to me how difficult it would be to replace the glass on my Note 2. There's a couple of YouTube videos that make it look somewhat easy... I dropped it today, and the glass is shattered all around. All the phone functions, including touch sensitivity, still work just fine.
I have absolutely no experience in replacing screens; do you guys recommend I go through insurance ($99), or try and replace it myself ($17 for a screen on ebay)? Also, how do I know if the digitizer is also broken?
Thanks!
Wow we both don't have good luck!
I just dropped my phone today as well, it fell out of my hand as I was getting out of the car but I thought it would be fine since it actually landed down my leg and onto my shoe, then onto the ground. I thought to myself "I hope I didn't scratch the glass!", but when I flipped it over the screen was completely shattered, no idea how.
I went through insurance last time I dropped my phone for $99, but that's because the display itself and not the glass was cracked, so if I go through insurance this time it will be cancelled after because I've files a claim twice. I did buy an Urban Armor Gear case for it right now so hopefully it won't break again.
Same issue for me though, just the glass is cracked, the touch screen still works perfectly. If I can replace the glass myself for $17 I'll go that route, but I'd like to hear from people who have done it or tried to do it.

I actually wussed out and ended up paying $99 for a replacement. Though the online videos make the screen replacement look somewhat easy, I was reading reviews of screen replacements for the Note 2 on Amazon, and a couple people damaged their digitizers trying to pry the screen off.. and ended up not getting insurance or a new screen . I don't have that kind of money to gamble with at this point.
Let me know if you are able to do it and how difficult it is. Just in case this sad situation occurs again.

I'll probably do the same thing. I'm waiting for my case to come in so when I get my second and last refurb through Asurion I can put it right in.
I read that when the screen is cracked it makes it really difficult to remove it as it will be in lots of pieces. This is what mine looks like after a small drop to pavement.

You have to be really patient and skilled. So worst case.... You waste 17 dollars

I thought about that, but decided that since I didn't have a heat gun I'd either try it in the oven heating it to around 180, or just give in and go through insurance.
In in the same situation. Contemplating paying a repair shop to do it as it would be my second insurance claim.
Don't have experience on my note 2 but just replaced my wife's s3 glass. It shattered when she threw it at me and missed... Enough on that. Anyways watched a couple YouTube and did it myself. Turned out pretty good for never doing it before. Her screen was shattered. Here is what I did.
Things needed: hairdryer, utility knife, tweezers, small flathead screwdriver like the ones you use to fix eyeglasses, wd40, wipe cloth, 2mm double sided tape, about 2-3 house depending on how bad your screen is.
1. Order glass from amazon... Approx 12 bucks
2. Removed battery and backing
3. Used hair dryer on low to melt glue. I propped the hairdryer so it would blow on the screen constantly and still have both my hands free to work on glass.
4. Started in the spot where it was most shattered and used a utility knife to get out one of the small pieces along the side as my starting point.
5. Once I got the first piece out, I used the small screwdriver to go along and pry up the other pieces, using tweezers as needed for the small pieces.
Slowly work your way around phone. The small pieces were actually easier to take off than the bigger ones. Actually broke some of the big pieces trying to get them off. Need to be very patient here and make sure glue is melted while prying up. Also be careful to not dig to hard with screwdriver to get under glass or you may scratch, mark the lcd screen itself.
6. Once you get most if not all glass off, use WD40 and a cloth to wipe off left over glue. This really helps get glue residue off phone.
7. Wipe clean and tape along side and place on new glass.
Tip: before taping and placing new screen, put battery back in and start up phone. Line up and tape back/menu buttons. Did not do this the first time and they did not light up properly... Got cut off because was not aligned properly.
Total cost was around 15 for new glass and tape online. Noticed some minor nick marks from my screwdriver but cannot tell when screen is on. 98% happy with it and saved alot of money.

yeah fixing the screen is not for the faint of heart..they have some powerful adhesive thats connected to ribbon cables on the bottom around the capacitive buttons and if not done correctly youll tear those off or damage them. youll need proper tools and such to do it. A friend of mine felt very confident about it and tried fixing my screen and destroyed it. I got lucky and my sister let me use her eligibility to get a new one and now I have a (very expensive) external battery charger =)

Have you had any sensitivity issues?
Nope... Wife has been using with no issues. One tip... Make sure you tape/glue all around. If it is not securely down, you may have sensor issues. First time didn't tape properly and a corner of the glass was slightly up. This caused the touch screen to be unresponsive in that corner.

Any advice! Please.

Not sure if serious..? If you try to apply it under water, you'll get water/moisture underneath the screen protector. You should probably go outside and try it if your house is that dusty
I done both my Z and Z Ultra under water works mint just make sure it fresh water I used a glass baking bowl. And covered over the handset by about 3 inch. Good thing with doing it under water is once u got it on you can adjust it. Also don't take off the second layer normally marked as 2 till after all the the handset is full dry mine took around 14hrs otherwise you will just pull the whole thing off.

I applied mine wet. (not under water) I have a Super Sheildz branded protector. Its stiff, and not sticky.
When I applied it the first time, my screen looked clean, but I could see small pieces of dust under it. I think this happens to everyone.
So i rinsed my screen under water, and did the same with the protector, and applied it again. Used a stiff card to push water and bubbles towards the edge. Now its almost perfect. I have one tiny piece near the edge, so I'm happy with that..
Any other moisture will eventually pass through the plastic protector. (depending on the thickness and brand of your protector this may take a day to a week)
Mine took 3 days and then was 100% clear
Hope that helps
Take a really hot shower and then after your done apply the screen protector. The moisture in the air wont let dust fly around. You could also take a screen protector/tape and lay it on the screen peel it off then put your good protector on to take out the dust.

Easy now.
I've only used one screen protector, like ever, and i didn't even know we could use water to make it "stick"
I always apply my (or others') screen protectors with some pieces of Magic Tape stuck ready for use on my desk.
Here are my steps:
1) clean the screen really well (having a waterproof device helps since you can really clean it in water)
2) put the screen protector on, focusing on putting it on the right way, start from the edges (bottom, top, right, left, whichever fits you) and get the sensors in the right holes
3) once fitted, peel off the top layer and push any bubble that may have sneaked under, all those which aren't evidently dust particles ones
4) IF you have dust particles bubbles, put a piece of magic tape on the nearest corner
5) pull up the corner and, with another piece of magic tape, go under the screen protector and peel the dust off of it.
6) keep at it until you have zero dust particles
Mind that the magic tape is the only one suited for this job, as it doesn't leave any glue on anything when peeled off.
P. S. If you have no idea of what is Magic Tape, here it is:

I was not there when it happened. I don't know the exact details. The kids were at their grandparents' house, and all I got was "one of the kids threw it!" The kids have thrown, dropped, kicked their Nabis in the past.... so no, I just don't know....
There is already a thread with some pictures of a tear down of the device (see just beneath this), but it does not include any details on replacing the LCD screen and glass.

Ok...So here we go...Got it fully apart..Took some pics. Maybe you guys can see something else that I didn't but it looks as if adding in wireless charging would be rather simple...Other than that I didn't really see anything of interest...what are your thoughts?

So first thing I did was remove the bumper, flip the device over, and remove the four screws in the corner of the tablet.
I then inserted a small screw driver (no place in particular) in between the two halves of the casing. If you look closely you can see the halves are held together with little clips. I unclipped the first few by working my way around with the screw driver and then was able to remove the rest by hand.
Working my way around, removing the clips I noticed that there are a couple of ribbon cables running from the LCD & digitizer to the board on the back half. Be careful not to yank on these cables as it can easily damage the connectors on the board.
The LCD panel is held in place from the rear by large plastic tabs.
I decided instead of cutting off one of the clips to remove the glass and pull the LCD panel out the front. In hindsight, it may have been a bad idea. I ended up shattering the glass into millions of tiny pieces (some of which ended up in my hand). It was then I decided to put on some protective gloves (Like these!).
The glass was held in place with double-sided tape. Not unlike many cell phones I have repaired screens on before. I used a heat gun to to make the tape more pliable and used a suction cup to pull up on the edges, but in the end no dice....
Amazon has replacement LCD panels listed for around $35 as well as Digitizer/Glass sets for the same price.... If I make the purchase and do the repair I'll be sure to update this thread,
Sorry to hear about your luck, nice thread to bookmark. Can you provide link to screen replacement?
Looking at ordering something like these.

Nice find did not know they sold it seperately.
Ordered the parts from the links in the previous post. The LCD works great, but unfortunately the Glass/Digitizer was DOA. I even hooked up the old one just to try and do a little trouble shooting and was actually able to get swipe to unlock and hit a few icons, whereas on the new one I got nothing. I have already RMA'd the glass and gotten a refund, so no complaints there. I ordered a new Glass/Digitizer from a seller in China a week ago, last I checked it was in San Francisco. I still plan on letting every one know how it goes.
I feel for you man, pulling out the glass on this thing was quite an arduous task.
The right ride, and bottom completely disintegrated in my hands up until the glue finally started giving out on me. Although, i spent more time cleaning up the left over glue than anything else.
I bought the same digitizer a month ago from the same seller listed, but due to scheduling conflicts with the owner of the tablet, I was not able to install it until tonight. Lo and behold, the part was DOA, and it's looking like I might have to eat the cost because of return policies. Such is life, I guess. I hope you have better luck than I have so far.

I know this is an old thread, I tried the new digitizer with one of the other kid's NABIs and it worked just fine. I don't remember the details, but there are different sub-versions of this tablet apparently.
I wonder if anyone else ever had any success. One of these devices was left in the sun and now the LCD is bleached.
not much luck
I've tried remove the LCD glass twice from these Nabi's and they are tricky. I used a heat gun but the adhesive their using is pretty strong and just won't give up the glass like some of the other devices I've taken apart.
Has anyone found a decent way to pull the LCD Glass away from the frame?
If you only need to replace the LCD, and not the digitizer, then you can open the unit, cut some or all of the plastic tabs behind the LCD, and remove it from the rear. It's not pretty, but the build is so tight, it shouldn't move around at all anyway. If you do need to replace the digitizer, best of luck to you buddy. That glass is a pain in the rear.

Yup. the LCD is fine. The digitizer glass is the PITA. I tried using packing tape to keep glass bits in, but the heat gun tends to melt the tape and shrink it lol.
Heat, and a very thin piece of plastic. Small gauge guitar pick comes to mind. Once you can get it wedged in there, you'll be fine. Patience. Also, if i remember correctly, the digitizer and front glass are one unit.
It may be more practical to break it on purpose. Unfortunately, my repair was a bad LCD that was made worse by a botched glass removal, and then further worsened by the digitizer being the wrong revision for that nabi.
If you do try to remove the LCD panel from the rear, that may make it easier to wedge something in the inner frame from the rear to try to remove the glass / digitizer assembly rather than trying to wedge something from the outside at an angle..
