hi there guys,
i wanted to know if there's a fix for the white balance issue when using the flast on the sgs2, as many users pointed out the photos tend to have a bluish / greeinish tint, i would say on the skin especially...
we know that the issue comes from the fact that the led produces a bluish/greenish tint in fact since that's the very "characteristic" of the LED, but it should be fixed via software, in fact some other guys suggested to take pics with flash, then go via software and change the color temperature, which indeed will work however is one more step to do.
if i do not use the flash photos look actually quite good for being a phone!
any brillian minds on this?
thanks
gabrio

For everyone experiencing the yellow tint issue who either don't want to or can't service their handset for whatever reason, try this as a temporary measure. Works for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yuki.ochi.privacyfilter.free
The yellow tint doesn't bother me enough to want to send it in but the tint sometimes becomes distracting enough to irritate me. Especially so when reading off the browser or an ebook reader. This app allows me to apply a filter to the screen and I've managed to adjust the color to a point where the tint becomes barely visible. The link is to the free version but there's an ad free version as well. Just play with the settings and see what works for you. I'd expect everyone experiencing the issue to require different settings to mask the imperfections.
Hope this helps some of you out there.

The .73 firmware should fix the screen color temperature issue. They made it less warm in terms of color.
Yup. I saw your mention on the other thread but I'm already on. 73 and it's still yellow. Good to know that Sony's taking measures though.

Actually, I am noticing the yellow tint since I installed .73..
What regiion .73 do you have?
One of trickes I use that my friend here told me is massaging that part of the screen and yellow tint goes away. I have found this to be temporary but works better than the rest.

Yeah, I just updated mine to .73 too, color still looks the same. Don't see a difference in temp. It was from Asia's firmware note. Anyone tried the SG? I'm on US firmware, so nothing from here. I do see a much better response on the buttons though. Mine had a little lag before, but now it's instant.

There are plenty of SG users on .73 firmware, who still have the yellow tint issue.

So, I think you guys are much more lucky than me. I am in Viet Nam, and I bought XPS in Hong Kong. Now I saw yellow tints but can't go to Hong Kong to change it nor I think Sony Viet Nam would repair it for me. That's bored of such a big company like Sony. It's their fault of manufacture and lot of people have the same issue, they should replace or repair it with global warranty not only specific region though

Hi. I think screen shots won't be necessary as my settings are pretty straightforward. Under "color", I set all 3 bars close to the left so I get a dark gray. For "alpha", my bar is on the left - somewhere between a third or a quarter of the way. FYI, I keep the filter on all the time. My (system) screen brightness is set to about 77 when I'm outdoors.
Do play around with the levels till you're satisfied though. I don't think a one-size-fits-all configuration is possible.

guys,i went to the assistance and in 2 days they give me a NEW Xperia S
On my Evo LTE, the front facing camera takes photos with a strong red tint. When I change from Auto white balance to something like incandescent, it is better, but has a slight blue tint. It does this whether we are indoors or outdoors. My wife and I were trying to use my new phone to take some pics of us sitting outside, and we ended up having to use her Evo 3d. The back camera is perfect, and does not have this issue. I may run to a Sprint store and compare mine to one they have on display. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this.
Anyone? I tried another camera app and had the same severe red tint.

Can you drop down the saturation a notch or two? Doing that for the back camera solved all of my red-tint issues and photos look amazing now. HTC should adjust the default.
EDIT: Saturation -1 is what my camera is set to and photos look great, both front and back.
The problem though is the regular camera looks perfect. No red tint at all. Even when I drop the saturation down, the front camera still has a red tint. I have a feeling I have a bad phone.

Mine is has an orange/red tint that comes and goes....are you fully stock?
I'm rooted, but haven't installed any custom Roms. It did this before root. I just hate to have my phone replaced a second time (first one had dead pixels).
EDIT: I had thought it did this before root, but evidently it did not.

Having this issue too. Wasn't always like this.
Edit: Question. Did you edit your build.prop to get Google Wallet working?
I just noticed this red tint today only on the forward facing camera. And I just modified the build.prop today for the google wallet fix. Gonna play with putting that back to test.
Edit: yup. Putting the stock build.prop back in place, and forward facing camera is back to normal.
Does anyone know why build.prop effects this?
Its the saturation on the front camera. Turn it down 1 and it will help the red tint immensely.

This completely fixed my problem!!!! Yes, I had edited my build.prop to fix Google Wallet and completely forgot about it. I changed it back and BAM (after rebooting)! If I could thank you twice for this I would. Thanks man! Now I am off to go kick myself. I really hate when I cause my own problems LOL! Well, maybe this thread will at least help one other person with this issue. If so, then it wasn't all in vain.
Edit: Thinking back on this, I thought the problem happened before I rooted, but I guess I was wrong since it is working now.

No. I am back to getting the error that the device is not supported. I know that in one of the Wallet workaround threads they say how to change your build.prop back without affecting this, but not sure if that really works or not. I am just going to wait for the official fix on it I think.
In case you guys haven't SEEN THIS yet. You can restore your build.prop back to stock.
I am having this problem now. Running Viper, with enoch kernel. I never modified the build.prop file though. I am guessing it was pre modified or the kernel may be the issue. What settings did you change in build.prop?
Edit: disregard, the edits are the ro device names. Fairly easy and works
Hi everyone, I just got my HTC Amaze yesterday from Mobilicity. I came from an Evo 3d, so this isn't much of an upgrade but I'm enjoying my new phone so far!
However, one little thing is bugging me. There seems to be a pinhole in the side of the phone and it's apparent when the capacitive lights are on. I can see the light leaking through. Pics attached.
Is that a manufacturer's defect? Or is it typical?
I'm still within the timeframe for a refund/exchange, so just seeing if it's worth exchanging my phone...
EDIT: Apologies for any confusion. I meant the small pinhole of light on the edge of my device. I've updated pics to emphasize the part I'm referring to. The screen bleed isn't a huge issue for me, just that little pinhole of light that annoys me.

Only light leak I get is the buttons leaking onto the screen, but it's no anything bothersome, only shows on dark backgrounds, you should get it exchanged if possible.
^ thanks, yea i read about the light bleed at the bottom and I have some of that too. Doesn't bother me. But that pinhole really does! Will try to get it exchanged. Gotta work on relocking bootloader and unrooting then.

Lol, use hasoon's tool to relock and browse into system/app with a file explorer, delete supersu.apk and reboot, to unroot.
You can exchange all you want but you will still have the leak. I have one same area as yours on two devices and vote showing leaks in upper right and bottom right. To be honest it's really not that bad though. Phone has good power so I tend to let the leak not bother me

Hm maybe it's more common. Possible QA issue perhaps?

i had the same prob on my first amaze. it was way worst than yours but i got it replaced from t-mobile. that phone had a lot of problem.
If you use speedrom by eclipsremix the tweaks in the settings menu have an option to turn off the bottom button lights which will get rid of the bleed. At first it is a little ruff getting use to not being able to see them real well but after a day or two you get used to where the buttons are and you won't miss the lights at all. And actually it may be in the energy rom also bit I'm not 100% on that. But definitly works on speedrom. It's a great rom too especially if you like aosp. Very fast smooth and very nicely themed

This leak isn't the fault of the buttons but the screen itself escaping at the side for some odd reason.
Mine has a small amount in the lower left hand corner. I think its fairly common. My mytouch 4g has the same issue too, but it doesn't bother me with either device

Yes I saw that in the pic you posted but there is also bleed from the bottom buttons. If I were you I would try to get it replaced and when you do then you can turn off the bottom lights to prevent bleeding on the new phone.

Will try to talk to the store to see if I can get an exchange on Monday.
I unlocked my bootloader via HTCdev however. If I relock it now it'll show "relocked" (as per other threads)... will they refuse to exchange my device because of that? I think not because they're unrelated.. any thoughts?

If they're anything like t-mobile, they wouldn't check or care, since the device is gonna be refurbished and sent back as a replacement to any customer with device issues.
This change the color temperature of the specific area where the yellow is, that way it would blend in with the rest of the screen.

I hate to be that guy but, if the yellow band was not fixed with the new cooler color temp added to the update, then all is pointing towards hardware not software. Opo's screens are bottom lit. Which means that the screen is illuminated from the bottom, up. If the glue or sealant was not applied appropriately, the screen and the glass won't seal correctly it creates the yellow band because the light is going in-between and going through the glue which is yellow. Thus creating the yellow band. Software could only do so much. It is a good idea though.

I don't think that the goal is to completely get rid of the yellow band, which just seems like it is not possible, but to reduce the amount of yellow tinting within a select area of the screen by countering the yellow with a gradient blue tint at the bottom. It seems like it could help if done right, which will definitely take some testing to nail the correct hue, gradient size, strength, etc.
