Some URLS are blocked (no idea why) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with one specific website - downloading/opening podcasts from the Dutch Radio 1 (e..g radiobox2.omroep.nl/rss/ug/programme/80.rss- I can't download any mp3 files there, e.g.. radiobox2.omroep.nl/broadcaststream/file/426393.mp3.
First I thought it was an issue with my podcast app but then it turned out that I can't download the above-mentioned mp3 file (nor the others files from this and other podcasts) at all. No matter which app I use, the website won't load.
It's not an issue with my Internet connection (same behavior on wi-fi and 3G, and a PC and another Android device work just fine, using the same wi-fi).
In one thread here I've read AdAway might be causing similar issues - but I disabled it and it didn't help.
The above-mentioned website is the only problematic one (or there might be more of them but that's the only one I've tried accessing). And yet that's one of the most important sites I'd like to use, which makes the whole thing pretty annoying.
I've got Samsung Galaxy S3 (rooted), running Android 4.3 (stock).
I'd appreciate your help in identifying the source of the problem.

Anything, anyone?
I know it seems like the most boring and irrelevant problem ever but the general question would be:
What my block specific URLs (or IPs, probably) on Android?
Any suggestions where to look for?

Problem solved: it was the Adaway app. That was my first thought (and there are reports of this happening on the Internet, too) but it wasn't enough to just disable blocking and turn it off - it took a couple of attempts (disabling, turning off, freezing the app, restarting my phone etc.). Now it works. Finally
Is there any way to edit the Adaway blocking list?

Blocked access to Reddit & Buzzfeed

Hi Guys, My Galaxy S3 suddenly blocked my access to reddit. I originally thought this was down to AdFree (for some reason) blocking it, so I have uninstalled that but it made no difference. I also noticed today that when I tried to follow someones link to a buzzfeed page that it was also blocked. Now these are some oddly specific blocks so I have a feeling that my phone may be hacked or downloaded something it shouldn't.
Can anyone help me figure out the culprit that is blocking my access?
Will I have to format my device and start fresh?
I used to browse reddit daily but its been a few weeks now...
Now I have the sweats and shakes and the ant people wont feed me. PLEASE SAVE ME!
can no one help?

New M8 Owner - Challenges and workarounds

Hey there. I just received my M8 yesterday. Really loving it. I have a feeling it won't sell well, which is really too bad. I have run across a few issues, though, and I wanted to list them here to see if anyone else experienced the same thing and also post my fixes/workarounds for what I did encounter.
Out of the Box, the first thing I did was unlock the bootloader and root. I rooted for two reasons: To block ads and tether free. I really don't care about custom roms or anything else. However, I ran into issues almost immediately, similar to my challenges with the M7.
Adblock - Adaway simply will not work because it can't write the hosts file. I tried sim linking to a different folder, but that also failed. Adfree worked for a while, but then quit. Both apps rebooted my phone spontaneoulsy when I ran them. Adblock Plus kind of works, but will also ocasionally stop and even block all of my internet. Workaround - I flashed a zip of an adaway host from June through TWRP. Ads are now blocked, but obviously it's an outdated hosts file.
Fitbit - I realize that I may be unique here, but I have been using a Fitbit for a long time. When I tried to set it up, the phone wouldn't let me log in (java error), then when I went back to the app, I was logged in, but my Fitbit One did not show up under devices. I tried to add it twice and it went through the whole process, but never actually showed up. Later, I went back into the Fitbit app and it was just magically there. Something is definitely up with the newest Fitbit app, at least on the M8, but all is working now.
Gsam - I want to see my screen-on time, but I can't seem to get Gsam to work correctly. Everything just says "updating". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. When I installed the root helper, it rebooted my phone because it couldn't write to the system.
Tethering - I currently can not find a solution for tethering that works. I froze tether check with Titanium Backup and now toggling hotspot does nothing. With the M7, we had to flash a modified apk.
That's kind of it for now. If anyone has a better solution for ad blocking, I'm all ears. Also, anyone who comes up with a solution to tethering will be my personal hero.

[Q] Much Google related stuff disfunct

Anyone ever had this problem?
Google Play works, but no images load, neither screenshots, nor the app icons.
At the same time, the YouTube app starts throwing Network Errors and becomes absolutely useless (browser site working tho).
Hangouts and G+ can't log into your Google account.
Most curious thing? This problem disappears on 3G. Also, it gets away with time even on WiFi. But it appears quite often.
Does anyone have an explanation for this? Is this location related?
Sometimes it's really p***ing me off, especially when I flash a new ROM and I can't log into my G account...
I just want to know what the heck is going on...
Really, nobody had this problem? Is it only me?
I'm necrobumping this thread because I found the reason. I was recently installing Arch Linux and ran into the same problem. Not sure what's the ultimate reason for this, but it's because some Android versions set only your router as a primary DNS.
So just modify your DNS settings and use whatever nameservers you fancy, preferably the ones provided by your ISP, it won't happen again

[Q] How to get rid of - adsmatte.com Adware

Hi,
Few days back, I start experiencing some Adware issues in my windows machine and windows phone. I have a blog which server Google Ads. Now, If I load my blog or any blogpost and then starts click randomly anywhere, it open a popup to ad.adsmatte.com/rot.aspx?and_some_parameters. I noticed that, I can experience the same problem in any website that servers Google Ads. I suspect this to be an Adware. But, I'm not sure how this creeps into my machine as well as in my windows phone. All the software that I use are genuine and no pirated copies are there in my machine.
But, the most surprising this I noticed is, my Windows Phone is also affected by the same problem. Since, IE in Windows Phone don't allow extensions and has proper sandboxing architecture, then how come IE in windows phone could be affected? I tried resetting my browser in both desktop as well as mobile, but didn't helped at all. Also, I launched the browser in InPrivate mode, which has the same problem too. . I even tried loading the same in FireFox (with AdBlock installed), but has the same problem.
I searched the internet for a solution and came across these 2 links - http://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-g-2014/528571-adware-redirects-most-websites.html, http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=8189. And, I'm surprised by the timing of these issue. Is this a new Adware out-break? Is spreads to all machines connected in the same router, if I got it right.
Is there any fix? How can I get rid of this?
All machines connected to my wifi have gotten Infected with this admatte.com . Condition of my phone is worse , I cannot open any site from any browser as I get instantly directed to this site. It does look like an outbreak , because it has been reported on internet since yesterday only and no solution is working. No anti virus is able to detect this adware. So we really need help.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ad-matte
I am facing the same issue. It infected my PC, iphone and my android. I tried malwarebytes with no luck. The attack is so bad that I am unable to open any article in NDTV app. Did anyone find a solution?
adsmatte
All this started just a few days ago. And yes it infects all the devices connected to the same router. What i observed was if you just try the link ad.adsmatte.com it redirects to google ad services, i dont know what to make out of it though. I have been using adguard extension in chrome and havent faced the problem since the installation. I would recommen you guys to do the same.
enjoy this
youtu.be/PXFb0TWRgUc
best solution worked for me
Got this virus on Firefox days ago, I had tried many means to delete it but did not help. I followed the guides here
removebrowserhijacker.com/remove-ads-by-ad-adsmatte-com-pop-up-how-to-get-rid-of-ad-adsmatte-com-adware
, reset browser setting and remove add-ons, then restart. It did help something.
For Chrome go to Settings--> Advanced --> Do not Track
Start the Do not Track option. This works for chrome browser in android mobile phones
ad.adsmatte prob solved..
I have been searching the prob all over the internet but at last my own intellect got me the solution... Its simple solution for android phones ..just go to wifi menu.. Long press ur wifi id and select modify settings.. In there change DHCP to static Ip and fill in the details as per shown there already.. In DNS type 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and save it.. Its done..No more rubbish admatte ...Such a headache i ve been through for a month
wat prashu posted sounds dandy except that I WI settings on my android - but Save button I not highlighted, and no use anyway
practically, my internet on hone is disabled because of the redirector.
If anyone is having any problems with the advertisement.just move to the router settings and head off to LAN and unselected dns automatically.. Select the dns manually and enter Primary dns- 8.8.8.8 Secondary dns- 8.8.4.4

Bloatware help with GlobmallX1 and H96 Pro+ 3/32

Let me preface my question with some info. I know my way around android and have been flashing roms since the first non-google rom was created. I also have extensive linux/windows/cli experience. My experience falls a little short when it comes to the more modern (and customized) android internals (such as which packages are required by what these days).
I already have the GlobmallX1 and while experiencing issues I decided I wanted to further clean the junk off of it. I also have an H96 Pro + ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W2L2WTY ) that will be here on Monday that I would like to clean off before we start using it. The only things I really need on these boxes are going to be Kodi and Netflix. I would like the play store installed and obviously anything required for the remote/wifi to function.
I am seeing a ton of packages installed that at first glance I would assume are not required, however I want to avoid killing the box by removing packages that are required by others. The Globmall came with Kodi and a Kodi updater preinstalled. I am probably going to backup the kodi install and wipe both of those out and install manually so I know the package has not been tampered with. I found a lot of stuff in /system/preinstall that I would like to get rid of, but again unsure if any are required. I looked into finding a clean rom to use instead for the H96 but it seems they all are missing something (sound, 4k, wifi, etc). I also searched for apps that might have some internal bloatware database however everything I found seems to be trash and just shows all apps and sends you to settings to uninstall.
My questions:
1: Is there an easy way to check a package to see if its required/important/malicious (either an app, or something I can do via adb)?
2: On these china kodi boxes, can the entire /system/preinstall dir be wiped out and the device reset safely?
3: I am seeing word that as long as the cpu and wifi chip match, roms from similar boxes can normally be safely flashed. I know flashing is in general not "safe" and has risk, but am I likely to find clean android roms that are fully working?
4: Does anyone know if there is a good place to find bash precompiled for arm(v8l)? I really hate this 'toybox' shell that I am finding on the boxes I have.
5: Last question is regarding a netflix issue I am having that I think is a problem on the box. Has anyone seen this before?:
Netflix was previously working a few weeks ago. I didnt use it frequently so I dont know when it broke. Basically what happens is I can load netflix and click on a show. The show will load and play about 1-4 seconds of video and a popup will appear (error 0013) saying it could not connect to the netflix service. While this popup is playing, the video sometimes pauses with audio continuing for a few seconds and sometimes freezes on a single frame. This happens on about 80% of the shows I try to play, however the 3 shows we want to use netflix for are all in that group.
This morning, I tried a couple older Netflix apks (I was running 4.13.3):
4.11.0, 4.12.1, 4.13.0, 4.13.1, 4.13.2
All experienced the same issue (again, why I feel the issue is with the box and not the app). A few other things Ive tested are resolution (1080p and 2160p) and enabling/disabling HDR (heard this can cause netflix/kodi issues).
I know this is a massive dump, but any help on any of the questions above will be appreciated. I have googled and searched forums for each of these, so If the answers are there I may be searching for the wrong thing. Thanks in advance.
Nothing? Is this a bad forum to post this on?
