Android Device Encryption - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is pretty much just a shot in the dark, but it's worth a try when I was messing around with my rooted android I got tired of the keyboard showing up stock 'it was buggy' so I decided to just root uninstall it forgetting that I needed it in order to login to decrypt my device. I had everything all setup prior to the reboot I went through the trouble of backing up everything when flashing my modded rom to support root. I ended up deleting my backup too. I was hoping and praying there may be a way to flash a keyboard app to system/apps or something. I don't want to have to do a factory reset if I really don't have to. Please any input would be greatly appreciated.

Factory reset question dealing with back up folder

I was wondering if I do a factory reset, will my back up folders from rom manager and titanium back up be deleted?
Thanks in advance

I posted this in another thread about my experience with Factory Reset
If you have removed any bloatware I do not recommend it
------
Hello,
I just wanted to share my experience and possibly prevent other people from going through it.
I recently received my first Vibrant and it happen to be one of the defective units unable to enter recovery via HW. Of course at the time I did not realize this was a problem and was new to the phone and android in general.
I rooted the phone and removed 5 or 6 bloatware apps (Telenav, Audio Postcard, etc... Nothing important) So im installing and uninstalling apps you know how it goes and I think you know I just kinda want to clear everything out and remove all the user data. I understand the bloatware I removed will not come back but thats better for me so I wont have to remove it again. So I use ADB reboot into recovery and select Erase User Data.
It formats and I reboot. Right away nothing works and I get a constant force close loop of just about every app trying to open including TouchWiz which I didnt remove so it should be fine. Well I think this sucks at least you can always flash to stock. DING thats when it hit me and I realized I now had no way to get into recovery or download mode to even attempt running a recovery. SO I had to have my phone replaced. The replacement phone Is not defective and I can access everything via HW buttons. I wanted to see if i could duplicate my issue. So I do a backup of stock right away. Then I proceed to remove bloatware etc...
I factory reset and again force closes
I nandroid back to the stock reference I made and boots fine No defect in the phone No Problem this time correcting it. I do a factory reset at that point and works fine.
Point I guess is after all this is if you have a HW Locked defective phone and have removed bloatware NEVER RUN A FACTORY RESET unless you have put the bloat back on... Would have saved me from having to get a replacement though I guess that was better cuz now I have a phone that works properly.

[Q] I want to start over...

I haven't been able to get updates for my prime since I messed with a few system files using Titanium backup a while ago. I admit messing with things wasn't the best idea, and it's caused some problems. Now, I would like to start from scratch, get my firmware up to date, and re-root.
I just pressed for a reset in the settings of my rooted prime, thinking it would wipe and fix the problems, but it doesn't. My now reset prime still won't update it's firmware. I don't know what to do anymore.
Can anyone point me to a walkthrough for resetting my prime? I have NOT unlocked the bootloader.
You will be more likely to get solid help/advice, if you mention what system files you messed with. If you did a batch restore, and really don't know what files got messed with, mention that. If the factory reset did not restore system files, it sounds like you may need to restore them manually.
I got rid of some system apps that I didn't really care about like @vibe, google books, google +, etc.
I reset by going to settings, backup & reset, factory data reset.
You need to re-flash the stock ICS update.
Can you tell me how I go about doing that, please?

Thank you very much. I'll be giving this a shot soon.

[Q] Help with generic android tablet rom backup

I have really messed up my os with rooted programs playing around. I would like to make a backup rom from one untampered with tabelet to flash to the tampered with one. I've read about rom manager and nandroid but I cant use them because I have a generic androud tablet. Dragon touch android 4.0. Cant find anything on it through google but alot of apps refer to it as softwinner's crane-a721. Please be aware that some how my stupidity changed my factory reset as well. Example....factory reset now installs super user, I once selected an option to remove my boot screen and now the app is 4 factory resets long gone but boot screen is still gone. Basically what I screwed up is now the factory reset. Can some one please help me or maybe even help me find a better flashable rom for this mysterious device?

[Q] Nabi2 v2.1 Root and Gapps

I was going to post this in reply to this thread, but since I'm new it won't let me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905674&page=165
So here's my problem. We have 2 Nabi's in our house both rooted with Gapps installed. One is working fine, one was having issues with charging and the screen locking up. I decided to try to un-root the one with the problems and see if I could get a replacement. I then realized that there was a software update, so I decided to try to update first before being without a tablet for any amount of time for a warranty issue.
My plan was to restore to a backup I had, install the OTA update, then re-root it and install Gapps again. All went well with the restore and OTA update, but now I'm stuck at not being able to install root or gapps! I get no errors on the scripts and everything seems to complete fine, but when I boot up again there is no root and no gapps. Post 1647 in the link above indicates it could be a space issue which makes sense, but now my question is how do I delete anything in the system/vendor/app folder without root access?
Both root.zip and gapps.zip were pushed to the tablet and when I select install through TWRP it goes through the process really quick with no errors and says it is complete, but it doesn't appear to be actually doing anything.
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!
Ok, I think I may have figured this out. I ended up restoring back to my un-rooted stock backup which took me back to version 2.05 with no modifications. I was then able to install root and gapps. I then used the update file provided here to update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45369304&postcount=1605
When I tried this file the first time before doing any sort of restores it kept failing because I was missing a bunch of files after going delete happy to get rid of all of the bloat. Since I restored to the stock backup it installed fine and I'm now on 2.1 after almost a whole day of messing with this. Now I just have to remove all of the bloat again and restore apps.
So is it safe to say there is an issue with 2.1 and the standard root/gapps files? At least now I know before I try to update the other daughter's tablet. Now to see if the update resolved some of the issues we've been having with this one....

Need some help backing up before rooting

Hey guys, hope I'm posting in the correct section! (I have a verizon gs4)
I've wanted to root my gs4 for awhile now and have done quite a bit of research on this but am still confused on some things.
Is there anyway to backup my current ROM along with all my current settings before I root my phone? My pictures, contacts and apps are taken care of but as far as everything else goes, I'd like to be able to somehow revert back to how my phone is now if anything went wrong. I've downloaded ROM Manager and am trying to backup using CWM but keep getting error messages, such as "an error occured while attempting to run privileged commands" or "an error occurred while flashing your recovery", which makes me think it wants my phone to be rooted first in order to work.
If I were to root my phone, would I be able to use CWM and basically copy my UI as it is now? If I were to want to revert back to my current settings, could I then load my recovery from CWM, then unroot my phone somehow?
I apologize for sounding like a complete noob but greatly appreciate any help! I'm very eager to get this going but just want to make sure I know how to get back to where I started.
Can a Mod please delete this thread? I was drunk last night and posted this.
My phone is now rooted and backed up.
Many Thanks.
