Hi all,
I have a Galaxy Note 3 running KitKat and since yesterday I've been unable to load any webpage in any browser. It's as though my phone is unable to find the index page of directories or something.
Some examples of URLs and the errors:
www.google.com/ - "Got the error: Not Found while trying to obtain /
www.en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page - "Got the error: Not Found while trying to obtain /wiki/Main_Page
I typed those out as examples, probably wrong links.
I've tried in Chrome, default Internet browser and LastPass browser, same problem. It also happens when connecting via Wi-Fi or 4G so I'm pretty much unable to use the internet on my phone at this point.
Does anyone have any ideas? I also have an issue with Wi-Fi endless disconnects but I believe that's an issue with KitKat and/or TouchWiz. Thought I'd mention it here in case anyone has a solution for that either
Anyone? I can't use some of my apps either as they show 404 Some do work so I do have a connection.
Got the same problem last few days, using newest Chrome on LG G3 (stock bumped rom KK). Did an updated of AdBlock but turning it off doesn't help neither does reinstalling chrome. Tried Firefox but didn't help.
EDIT:
Reboot helped, after second try every website seems to open.

Did you spoof your MAC address on your router? I had a problem a few months ago when I changed my MAC address only parts of websites would open, but then not others. I was real confused until I changed my MAC back to default and everything worked. Some how I had managed to pick some MAC that conflicted with something in some way. I respoofed it with a similar MAC to the original and everything was fine. Hope that's all that's wrong here too. Cheers!

Hi Experts,
Sorry if I sound a little crude and maybe a novice(I am), but I have been a Symbian user so far and finally decided to take the plunge to Android. I received my HTC Hero a couple of days back and tried to connect to Android Market with my google account, but in vain. Tried to use the Google Mail app, but again failed. Am I missing something here? Tried to use HTC Sync with my lappy, but no success.
Provider: Orange UK.
Connectivity: Wifi (No data plan on Sim)
Laptop OS: Win 7 64-bit (connecting usin USB cable)
I have read a lot of threads on xda and on the internet and tried quite a few things, but no success.
Thanks in advance,
Jag
Closing thread as there is another one though not for UK. Will wait for that to resolve.

I had the same problem, and some packet sniffing showed that Android tries to contact google on port 5228/tcp. Our work wifi firewalls non-standard ports, presumably this is why I cannot download from the market (Hangs forever at "starting download") or sign into gtalk over wifi. Switching to 3G data, everything works fine (though the Market stalls a lot).
I had an issue where it wouldn't accept my details unless I entered them in on the initial setup screen.
i.e. if I skipped past the "set up google mail" bit, and went back later, it didn't work.
workaround was reverting to factory install and making sure to enter my account details at the start (and I used wifi since I was in my home, so it should definately work)
It worked for me after i manually set the APN for my carrier.
Please same problem, HTC Magic 32B Ion 1.6, how can I do?
Yes you should always try to log into google at the very start otherwise some problems can be caused.

All OK!
I did a wipe and all ok
How am I supposed to do this after a factory reset if I connect thru wifi, since I must first enable wifi radio and then put a password, so that means I would have to skip the "wizard" so that defeats the purpose of factory resetting everything... please help.
Solved
Logically, what you say is right, but practically it actually worked
1) after the factory reset, i get the google signin screen,
at that moment, my wifi wont be enabled.....but still i went ahead and entered the username and
password and clicked the signin button
as expected it throwed a message saying "it cant connect"
along with it it also said may be you are not on wifi with a
"connect to wifi button", which will take to the wifi screen where you can connect to wifi and it comes back to the google signin screen, where you login again....
.............there you go it signs in successfully now.
Hope this helps
I have this same issue on my galaxy s. Even factory reset and singing in at the beginning doesnt help. What should i do?

Hi
I am facing the same problem with my device (Galaxy S2). I am able to surf web with the stock phone browser using wifi, but apps won't connect. Apps connect only through GPRS.
I was wondering if you were able to resolve the issue. Could you please help me ?
Anyone else has a solution to this problem.
My phone has the stock firmware, purchased the phone today.
Apps have never worked over wifi, but the browser works.
Cannot download anything on wifi, for that only my GPRS/3G works.
Please help
I have been using my desire for over a year and it has been great, but now I also have this problem of no market or google mail over my WiFi. I was going to do a factory reset and start again, but after reading the posts on this thread this may not resolve the problem.
Has anyone found a fix for this problem
I have this problem too. I doubt it's the manufacture deliberately use its stock sbf to stop people using wifi to save data bandage. So they can make more money with the mobile operators!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281034
me too I guess
well i was having a similar problem(would connect to wifi, the browser worked but not the apps).in my case, i have my router setup with the dhcp server off(you have to assign an static ip address manually to every device you that you are going to connect to the router) i solved my problem by enabling the "use static ip" check box and filling all the information(ip address, gateway, netmask, dns 1 and dns 2)on the advance settings tab in wifi settings.
I can connect and browse the internet on my Xperia x10 mini wifi fine without problems but when i try to download apps they say they are starting to download but nothing happens. It doesn't appear in the notification.
I am on android 2.1.
I deleted all my apps and then reset to factory settings, but still it won't work.
The day before this happened i downloaded tTorrent Lite and some other apps using wifi without problems. The next day i tried to use tTorrent to download some music but it wouldn't started downloading. So then i tried to download something off the market and that also wouldn't start.
So what can i do to fix this?
If someone could help me with this problem that would be greatly appreciated
Thanks a lot
Ryan
Did you manually configure your router? Maybe your router filters your I.P address.
Try one of the ff:
try wiping your cache via xRecovery.
login to your google talk first. when you've managed to login do a relog. then see what happens.
I have the same problem. Can´t even log in to google talk service.
It became suddenly. 2days ago everything was fine. Now I can´t update my apps etc.
Will try that xrecovery if I manage to download it from google but is there any other option? without downloading another apps?
try these solution, but didn't try this as a solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699651&page=2
when I encountered this problem, I figured that someone filtered their router with a specific mac address, I noticed it because when I tried downloading on my office it stalls on starting download but when I'm at home I can download w/o problems lol.
anyways, I'll try to find the other solution I find helpful when I experienced this.
EDIT: Found another. Well, these sites gave me ideas why we're encountering this kind of bug. But TAKE NOTE that I didn't do these as a solution to the problem. Mine just got OK when I got home. as explained in the bold part
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-949400.html
http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/static.py?page=known_issues.cs
Still not working
I cannot sign in to Google talk for some reason.
I don't have wifi at home so i was using internet at the library. Do you think they would/could have filtered my phone so i just couldn't download, but can browse?
I can download off my laptop there and had done on my phone a day before this all happen. Plus i tried it at another library also.
Where is xRecovery?
Thanks a lot for your help
Hi everyone - I have a weird problem that I really need some help on!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III on the Verizon network. I've had the phone since it first came out and love it, but the problem I have is that when I connect to my network at home, YouTube and Google+ won't update.
Google+ tries to refresh and give the error:
"Can't load data. Check your connection."
When YouTube opens, I get the error:
There was a problem connecting to the network"
If I go into the sync settings for Google, most everything is syncing just fine, but Google+ and People details have problems. Google+ just shows the 2 arrows in the circle next to it and People details shows the same, but with an exclamation point. And then I have a message at the bottom that says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
This problem for YouTube and Google+ happens MOST of the time, but sometimes it will work OK. And if I have problems and turn off the WiFi and change to 4G, everything will update just fine. I also don't have the problem on other wireless networks.
So most of you are probably already thinking, "well this is a problem with your wireless network." That's what I would think.... however, my wife has the same phone and hers works fine on our wireless network. The only difference is that my phone is rooted and hers is not. I am only rooted though; I am still running the stock ROM on the same version and NOT a custom ROM.
I have changed out my wireless router from a NETGEAR N600 to a NETGEAR N150 (yes, a downgrade) and that did not make a difference. There is nothing special configured on the router. I have Time Warner providing my Internet access.
I have done a factory reset on my phone (wiped data, cache partition, and Dalvik cache from ClockworkMod)... still nothing. Be aware that I do run a lot of apps though (around 165 of them).
Here's my problem - I don't use a ton of data, so going to 4G should just be a minor annoyance. However, I now have 2 Chromecasts in the house (awesome!) and I need to be on the wireless to cast a YouTube video over to it... 4G won't cut it.
Hopefully I provided enough info. I've attached a few screenshots as well. Usually I'm pretty good at figuring these kind of things out, but I'm at my wits end on this one and I know there's some really smart people on XDA so I'm hoping you guys might be able to provide some help.
Thanks!!

Just to add to this (and to hopefully give this a little bump), I forgot that the same problem also exists with Google Voice... when I'm at home, I usually can't listen to my voicemails through the widget unless I get off the wireless and go to 4G.
Any thoughts anyone?

Do other internet activities work fine on ur phone? Such as web surfing, watching youtube vids etc?
And another thing is that rooting and unlocking tends to break some software related stuffs in stock roms, and the sync issue might be related as well. I suggest that u try a custom rom and see if the problem persists. Hope that helps

Why are you rooted? Are you using an ad-blocker? If yes, disable it, reboot, and try again. I've seen some of Google servers end up on adblocking lists.

Polobunny, that's something I didn't think of, but no I don't use an ad-blocker. I'm rooted for the backup abilities in Titanium Backup, the awesomeness of Greenify, and the ability to do small things (like rename sound files for the phone starting up or the camera shutter sounds). I like that idea though - I will try using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper to temporarily disable root when I get home. From another perspective though, that would be weird if it fixes the problem since it's only when I'm at my house... other WiFi connections work just fine. I will let you know what I find out.

Well, it made me think... why not? That's one of the only differences between my phone and my wife's (the other is that I have a ton of apps on mine). I've only used Voodoo OTA RootKeeper one time, but it looks like it will do a temporary unroot, so I'll give it a shot.
As far as the ad-blockers, while I don't have one specifically installed, is it possible that one of my other apps might be causing a similar problem?

I'm thinking this might be a DNS issue. You've done a lot of work already on your phone and changed your router, but I don't think you mentioned reseting your modem. That would be my next step, whether or not m.youtube.com works on your device.

That got me thinking a little bit as well... I returned the cable modem I had to Time Warner in January (2013) and replaced it with a Motorola SURFboard SB6141 that I bought. I just logged in and checked the stats on it and everything looks in the normal range. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty confident that I've been having the problem since before the modem was swapped out.
When you say "reset the modem," are you talking about rebooting it or are you talking about resetting the configuration on it? I'm fine with either, just asking. The number show that it's been up for 31 days. The thing that keeps prodding me though is that their are no problems from at home on my wife's phone.
DNS is an interesting thought that might make the most sense... but more so a problem with it on my phone than anywhere else. Right now, my NETGEAR wireless router is dishing out the DHCP info and gives out Time Warner's DNS server addresses. I had Google's in there for a while, but changed them at one point thinking this might be related.
Is it possible that I have a bad HOSTS file entry or something when I connect to the WiFi at home? Does anyone know if the YouTube, Google+, and Google apps connect to different names or IP addresses than the mobile sites? If so, maybe I can try pinging those names or IPs that the apps go to for testing (assuming the mobile sites work fine).
Thanks!

Simply reboot it, not reset the configuration my bad.
You can use Google DNS servers on your router. This would absolutely rule out that your TimeWarner DNS servers are messing up with your stuff.
I wouldn't think it would be HOSTS file issue, unless you changed something to it yourself. Even more so if it works on mobile data.
As for YT, G+ and Gapps, they use a mesh of different servers so it's a bit hard to direct you more clearly. They all use the range 184.150.x.x as far as I'm aware though.
So all in all, try rebooting your modem. Might as well unplug the router when you do so. If it works after, then yay. If not, try using Google DNS.

Hi geoworld - yes, the bootloader is unlocked.
As a side note, I got home today and of course wasn't having the problem. Regardless, I rebooted the modem (and router) as polobunny suggested. I also changed the DNS servers to be Google's DNS instead of the ISP's. Now I'm just waiting for the problem to happen again.

I don't know yet - like I mentioned in the original post, it's an intermittent issue that happens MOST of the time, but sometimes it does work. Unfortunately, it worked fine when I got home yesterday before I even made any changes so it's hard to tell if any difference was made. If it's not going to work again, I will know pretty quickly (next day or two) since that's how often it was happening. I'll keep the thread open for a few more days and update the post as I'm testing every day.

Last night and this morning I had no problems with Google+ or YouTube when I tested... not sure if this is a good thing or not. I hope the problem is resolved, but I still want to wait another day or so to be sure. I'll keep you posted.

So things were going OK, but now I had something a little unusual... the problem happened again with Google+: "Can't load data. Check your connection"
I then went to the YouTube app and it took a loooooong time but eventually loaded. I then went back to Google+ and it loaded OK.
I'm confused.

I am the proud owner of a TF201 that has been sitting unused for over a year because the internet stopped working after working fine for years. My WiFi shows connected with 4 bars but the wifi icon stays grey, not blue. I have put many hours into trying to get this thing to work. I have gone through all the posts on all the forums regarding various reasons and solutions for the grey wifi icon. I have made all the suggested changes to my home wifi to no avail. I have the same problem when connecting to my phone hotspot or any other access point. I don't think it's the hardware and I don't think the problem is with the wifi source. It has to be software on the TF201. So I tried all the fixes for the Android configuration and nothing worked. So finally, in desperation, I did a Factory data reset. I also went into recovery and did a data wipe. So then I boot to a new Android 4.1.1 and enter setup. I can select and connect to wifi but the google login fails because, again, no Internet. So I skip the google login and I am left with naked Android with no Internet. Then I decided maybe I could fix it by flashing a new ROM. But before I can do that I need a custom recovery. But before I can install that I need to unlock and root my TF201. So I finally get the Asus unlock tool installed and run it. Only one small problem, it won't work unless it can verify my google account across the Internet which, of course, is broken. So at this point I'm at a loss. Unless you guys can help me I guess I could sell if for parts on Ebay. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.
You say you have tried everything without actually saying what you have tried but when I have encountered this in the past the date and time has been wrong. I know it sounds stupid but did you check this ?

Rather than stupid, it would have been brilliant if it only worked. I did try that already but thanks for the suggestion.
I didn't go into too much detail on what I've tried because, ultimately, I was wasting my time. The tablet is getting wifi. It is connected to wifi with 5 bars. The only problem is that they are grey not blue. I've read that blue means full two-way connection with google services and grey means no or partial communication with google. So I can go to the tablet now and select Settings, +Add account, Google, enter an account. It will say "this will take a moment" and then instantly comes back with "Couldn't sign in, Can't establish a reliable connection to the server." If I tell it to create a new Google account it asks for a "name"@gmail.com but rejects every name as "not available" no matter how random/long it is.
Nothing else appears to be wrong with this tablet. Its bone stock, date/time is set, wifi is connected.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

It's mad because what you are describing is the exact same errors that I had when the year was set wrong on my tablet. I also couldn't use browsers or anything because all the certificates were out of date.
I just had a quick google for your errors and the answers it brought up also said the date.

I did find another thread as well which mentions editing the hosts file so it might be worth you taking a look here and see if there is anything you haven't tried yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083702
I've found that people are fixing the Google sign-in problem by editing the hosts file and commenting out the address for google's servers. However, you need to be rooted to do this. So does anyone know how to root a TF201 without the ASUS unlock tool? If that's the only way then I have a chicken-and-egg problem with no solution.
Can you ping the tablet from another computer/phone in your house?
Have you tried putting in a static IP and DNS instead of DHCP?
Hi,
Since this week I've gotten the update to One UI 4.1.1 (Android 12) and ever since I've installed it on my tablet, I'm getting the notification that I'm "connected without internet". I've looked around on the interwebs and it seems to be a very commen problem? However, the strangest thing is that I do have internet, I can surf any browse any site I want, I just always have the ! next to my wifi symbol.
Has anyone else had the same issue and found a way to solve it? I've already tried to:
Forget and re-add my wifi
Follow steps online, like static IP, tablec MAC (instead of spoofed)
Advice welcome!

Finally got the solution after many trials and methods, here is the video
